I agree with other posts here...Expensive! (RESPONSE TO THEIR REPLY BELOW REVIEW) We took our pet there once and found they are two and three times more expensive than other vets that provide excellent care for pets. After giving us an erroneous quote over the phone to get us there, they did not honor their quote and over charged us for the initial visit and the little they did to care for our pet. Then they wanted to do other procedures that other vets said were not necessary and would just cost us more money. They tried to make it sound as if they were doing our pet a favor. Additionally, their lack of integrity caused our family a lot of stress as we needed to consider whether we should keep our pet. This caused us to reach out to other vets to which we are now thankful we did, especially our children who were afraid they would lose their hairy friend. We went to another vet that is honest and the expensive surgery that our pet needed was half the cost and they did not try to sell us on trying other procedures first that would not work. We had to travel a few extra miles but it was well worth it. Caring for pets does not include over-charging your customers and putting a fear into them to try and justify your dis-honest practices! I suppose your apology did something for you because it does nothing for me. Satisfied with the quote? I was told by a Larkin employee that a procedure would be less than a grand, but my pet needed an examination first. So I paid for the examination and was then told that the procedure would be more than twice the amount quoted and the Larkin associate should have never given me a quote! What kind of business do you run? I WAS GIVEN A BOGUS ESTIMATE TO SUCKER ME INTO YOUR PRACTICE. I took my pet to other qualified vets who told me that the options recommended by Larkin would be costly and worthless so they did the surgery for less than half the price that Larkin wanted to charge me and my pet is doing fine. Additionally, Larkin charged me three times the amount that other vets charge for an expression. They performed the same procedure!! Larkin did no special treatment or a "higher quality" procedure€just charged a lot more! As for your fear free practices, Larkin scared my family regarding the surgery that my pet needed to which, as mentioned previously, another vet did and our pet is doing great for a fraction of the cost Larkin would have charged if we were not smart enough to realize that Larkin wants money more than they care for pets. Obviously, this has been an issue for years as Brent Artery from three years ago left the following review which describes our situation spot on: "Brent Artery 3 yrs ago. Larkin is one of the most costliest vets in Berks County. Beware the staff are salesmen first. Their services are very expensive, and they will sell you unneeded; costly, lab tests, return visits and expensive hospital inpatient care. They have your pets "illness" or "injury" on a fee schedule, meaning you will pay what they deemed necessary for their services including hospital stays, to "fix" your pet." Read Less

I've had a hard time in the past finding a veterinary center that was knowledgeable enough about my bloodhound. Larkin has been amazing since day one due to their expertise and caring environment. My dog and I couldn't be happier! Read Less

Been taking our pets here for over 9years now. They are really easy to get along with and they truly care. Sadly had to put 2 of our cats to rest and they were very understanding. Still take our 16 year old dog here. Would never go anywhere else. Read Less

I have always been an animal lover. However, the past two years I became a cat owner for the first time. I love Larkin Vetinary! Chewy had a great experience and the staff loved him! The staff was so kind and made you feel comfortable. They were compassionate and friendly. I've taken my cats to Larkin for over 15 years. The staff is SOOO incredibly friendly and the vets really care about my fur-babies and are VERY talented. This year I've seen them a lot - several dentals, kitty diabetes and a partially obstructed urethra. Last night, however, was AMAZING!! Long story short, Dr. Larkin and Dr. Nelson performed a very complex emergency surgery on one of my cats last night. I felt like they were operating on their own cat, with the time, effort and determination they had to find a way to fix our Boo. Larkin Veterinary Center, has been (and still is) good to my cat Leo. They have been good to me as well. As I have Adult ADD, and it is a source of mild interference to everyday living. And being on a fixed income, adds to the inconvenience. So, being on target for checkups can be problematic in both categories. I just started with Larkin Veterinary Center for the care of my rescue kitten and they have been everything and more that I could have wanted for my little one. Dr. Nigrini really took her time in the visits to get to know my kitten and all of his needs. The front staff and techs are also wonderful to work with. I also love their early/later hours that makes it easy to schedule taking care of my pet into my busy work life. The PAWS plan also made rescuing an abandoned kitten with no prior vaccinations/neutering/micro-chipping financially feasible.Read Less

After our recent cross country move, we started asking around for recommendations on veterinarians for our allergy challenged dog. After receiving numerous recommendations for only Larkin, we called and made an appointment. The reception staff was very friendly and patient as she collected the somewhat lengthy history and was able to see us the same week. We really appreciated the Saturday hours!The appointment was very smooth and was quite thorough. They reviewed her history, made several vaccination recommendations and addressed our concerns regarding new environmental allergies. We were particularly impressed with the care plans offered to help spread out the cost of pet care. With the extensive medical history of our pet, we are used to being ineligible for any insurance or care plans. It was not so here!After returning home, I was able to sign on to the website and access details of our visit, including alerts and reminders for upcoming visits. I am the mother of 2 middle aged male cats. Dr. Larkin and her associates have been caring for them since they were a year and a half old. (Oh how I wish I had known the practice when the boys were younger!!!)I have never experienced a veterinary practice that is as devoted to the welfare of animals as Larkin is. She, and the other vets in the practice, treat animals holistically and are just as concerned about the mental wellbeing of the animal as their physical wee being. When one of my cats suddenly began urinating on my bed, one of her staff who is an expert on animal behavior helped me figure the problem out, and it never happened again. I not only recommend Larkin Veterinary Practice, I urge you to make yourself happier, and your fur babies happier and healthier and switch vets! Read Less

I'm extremely happy that I found a place who can handle my anxious dog. He's very nervous to begin with, the one technician took her time and encouraged him with treats to help him feel comfortable.They were able to trim his nails, which amazed me! Every other place has restrained him & used a muzzle and still couldn't trim them. Dr.Nelson & the staff was incredibly friendly. At the end of it all Montega was so happy just wanting more treats! I am so thankful to everyone here. Especially Dr Nelson who is taking excellent care of my Toby. She saved his life years ago and continues to care for him and treat him with his health concerns in a compassionate and professional manner. Don't hesitate to take your little furry family members to Larkin. They always took great care of our Kitty. We always felt they took a personal interest in Kittys health and quality of life. Dr. Nelson, Dr. Nigrini and (previously) Dr. Smith all made us feel we werent just another case. Thats, of course, taking nothing from the rest of the wonderful team at LVC. At one point or another, Im sure we interacted with them all and never felt anything but compassion. When we finally made that hardest decision of all, to say goodbye to Kitty, we were greeted immediately and taken back to spend as much time with her as possible. My wife commented later how sweet Brenda was. She gave her a hug and made sure she was ok. It was definitely genuine; we could tell she really cared. To the entire staff, thank you all so very much. I started going to Larkin when Mr. Noble was able to diagnose a problem with my dog just by seeing his coat (later confirmed with the exam) and save his life. Dr. Noble has since left, but Dr. Larkin did my dog's dental work around five years ago and has cared for my dog and two cats since. All the doctors care very much about their patients and will lay out all your options kindly to keep them in tip top shape. They always have great advice (even if in the end they make no money on it), and go above and beyond to make my pets comfortable. One of my cats, Ezra, is a very difficult patient and Doctor Larkin is the only person I have met outside my household that "gets" him and can cater to his anxiety.
