We are so so grateful for Dr. Schwartz and his team at Valley Central. We brought our dog in with an ongoing upset stomach after paying our visit to our regular vet. The team at Valley Central were quick to find out why, and took action immediately. Once it was decided that a surgery was needed, Dr. Schwartz and his team removed the foreign body and cared for our boy like one of their own. With COVID, we weren’t able to be inside with our dog and were worried with the surgery and all of the unknown. Tori, Alexis, Eileen, Anita, and I’m sure so many others; made us feel so comfortable with our baby in their care. They called us periodically with progress reports, took our (many) calls asking for updates, all with genuine care and compassion. Dr. Schwartz even called us from home on his days off to check in, ask how we’re doing, and explain every bit of the process expertly and in terms we could understand. Then, once it was time for our dog to come home, he personally went over all of the discharge instructions, and gave us his personal email to send pictures or any questions. Again, reassuring us that there were no dumb questions. Upon picking our dog up, Alexis took the time to stand outside (in the freezing cold) and review everything with us again. Then pass off our dog with obvious love for him and her job. On top of that, she happily took my call when we got home about “planning” his medication and meal chart. Once home, Dr. Schwartz made sure to follow up over the next few days, again making us feel like our dog is as important to him as our dog is to us. unless you want to spend thousands of dollars or be turned away, DO NOT GO HERE. there are plenty of alternatives in the area that provide much better service and attention to your pets that you hold dearly. do not settle for poor care here, especially if your animal is in pain. my mom took our 8 year old dog here due to an allergic reaction that got significantly worse over the weekend. OBVIOUSLY, didn’t want to wait until Monday when her regular vet opens, because her dog’s face is literally RAW and BLEEDING. After 2.5 hours, the nurse called to tell her that the dr “PEEKED” at her and determined she needs more long term follow up with our regular vet (which I obviously already know). The dr did not do a complete examination, did not give my dog ANYTHING for her discomfort or provide any interventions to alleviate her symptoms. We have always raved about this facility and the care they provide - but clearly things have changed. changed for the worse, and changed for the intentions of only accepting animals in critical enough care that they can put thousands in their pockets. we will never bring either of my dogs here again. we will make it public to our friends and family to AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT. The standards of care here have clearly lowered to an unacceptable level. my mom has been a Registered Nurse for 25 years, and would never accept this lack of treatment by a physician. Numerous issues including:Rude front desk staff, the chewing gum does not help!!!Each appointment was an hour wait and approximately 3 hour totalNurses did not ask before pricey xrays (180)or bloodwork (230), expected to pay immediately.  Separate nurse fee on bill daily (20) Dog back surgery (6000) had back leg issue after, was told it was separate issue, second opinion stated it was absolutely related a known risk which was never disclosed They take your dog in the back to see the doctor you don't get to see what is happening we heard our dog screaming in pain, came home today by far worse than before going inMany issues with prescriptions, they lost our meds we brought in, and charged us for new.    Also, Mis labeled dosage at double strength ex 2@2xday vs 1 twice a day.   We caught this and adjusted, but what if we didn't?  Cost of gabapentin @109 for 30 days. On line and from pharmacy around $7.   Very upset, doctor presents caring and skilled, just too many small issues and slip ups to be comfortable returning. Read Less

Valley Central specifically Dr Carlos Hodges saved my furbabies life! He had to have emergency surgery to remove a 5 inch mass from his intestines. We had a consultation in the morning and the decided right on the spot that he needed to stay and have surgery that afternoon. Mickey is bouncing right back from his surgery. I have used Valley Central many times over the past 16 years with my different dogs and don't have one complaint. They are always friendly and caring. Read Less

Since I wrote The Pennsylvania occupational board found Dr Carlos Hodges guilty In October 2013 in my dog Voula's death, he then was found guilty again in 2016 for killing another dog.  All records are public at Pennsylvania Department of State website. Also, reporter Paul Muschick at the Morning Call is well aware of Dr Carlos Hodges's PA State Occupational Board prosecutions. Reach out to him if you have suffered by the hands of Dr. Carlos Hodges at VCVREC (Valley Central Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center).Let us, as a community, continue to do our due diligence and spread the word to stay away from both Dr. Carlos Hodges and VCVREC. If i could give this place no stars, i would... Brought in my boxer for some seizure complications and ended up having to euthanize her :( we wanted her ashes and her paw print for all the wonderful memories we have spent with our girl, and they ended up charging us for the ashes but proceeded to not save them and no one even questioned the amount of money we paid. Took them about a month to realize their mistake and didn't seem remorseful. I recommend no one take their pets to them as they are careless and a waste of money. Read Less

This veterinary hospital is all about the money.  They wouldn't even look at our dog without showing us the minimum cost and getting our credit card.  After we completed their "contract", we had to leave our dog there as they didn't have any idea when the doctor would see her.  As it turned out, it was about 6 hours later.  The vet was nice and answered our questions.  We decided to have her admitted for treatment, not knowing if it would work or how long she would be an inpatient.  We were told she would have a dedicated nurse and around the clock care.  Whenever the doctor called with an update, the first thing she would tell us was the balance on our account.  Most of the nurses were nice but extremely overworked as it was hard to talk to them while we visited our dog.  We needed to buy a glucometer, which they sell, but the nurse told us we would be better getting it off Amazon as it was cheaper.  She was right - they would have charged us 3 times more - my question is why do they feel  they need to make that much money?  The meds were also 3 times more than our vet.  We decided to take her home against the advice of the doctor.  She was very stressed and unhappy in the hospital.  We took her to our vet who took her off all of the meds (and opioids) that they had placed her on and she improved within a couple of days.  I think that there are a lot of innocent animals that get "put down" because their owners don't have the money that these people require.  I know that it is an emergency vet and would be more expensive but 3 times more - come on - that's outrageous.  They are obviously in business for the money not for the animals! Dr Ron is awesome. He and his staff took excellent care of my dog. I was extremely nervous about my dog’s condition and had to leave her there overnight. They welcomed my phone calls and numerous questions. Even after my dog was discharged her nurse, Felicia, made herself available to speak to me on the phone about my concerns. I cannot say enough about this place! We first found it two years ago when our cat had gotten ill at night, and thank GOD they were open 24/7! They were so nice, so accommodating, it was amazing. My cat had to stay for 3 days and when we picked him up , he acted like he owned the place! He just loved everyone there! So, when he got sick again, we didn't even give it a thought ....right back we went. And Romeo, my cat, was HAPPY to go! The staff remembered him and he was such a good boy. Unfortunately , this time we couldn't bring him home. But the staff, the Doctor (Dr. Ron), and everyone went out of their way to show us how sorry they were and made us feel how special our Romeo was. They were so supportive and made this so much easier for us. They get 10 stars from my family. I highly recommend them. They really care about their patients and today that is SO rare. My cats eye was rolled back of his head. I got there he had his temp and weight done. The tech came back into the room and told me the doctor is finishing with another patient and it would be around 1/2 hour before he saw me. Ok I understand not a big deal. She also said if I wanted to go somewhere else?!?!!??!! What?!?!?! I packed my car up and walked out and went to another place. I never heard of such a thing?! Im in disbelief this even happened. Money, money, money, money. Be prepared to open your pocketbook if you decide to come here. I had an ultrasound for my dog here and met with the doctor after to discuss the results. Doctor Ron was personable and tried to break the ice as soon as he walked in the room. He spent time going over the results slide by slide and tried to explain as he would to a student of medicine. End result was my dog needed surgery for 3000 to 4000 dollars. He told me to have a beer, think it over and get back to him the next day. I was told not to go to a different vet as "they might not be able to handle the procedure". After much debate, I called back the next day to make an appointment to schedule surgery. However, I was told I had to come in for a consultation that would cost 175.00. I thought that was what I did the prior day with Dr. Ron for 500. I was then told that other tests would have to be done prior to surgery. At this point it was clear they didn't care and that they were trying to nickel and dime me even after I agreed to a costly surgery. I went with a different vet and will now stay away from here until I'm a much wealthier man than I am today. Read Less

Great place to get an animal euthanized. Kinda expensive to pay them to kill your pet. Staff was nice. If going into the situation, would lead to a dead pet; why rack up the bill. Diagnosis on spot, i.e. your pet has to be put down at first sight vs. expensive x-ray/whatever. Obama regulated the healthcare industry, maybe his legacy should have regulated the veterinary/dental industry too. Great staff; will get future animals euthanized here again. Read Less

My dog Cali got Very sick one day last Dec 2017 and developed pyometra then got Peritonitis and went septic.. They were very nice and very attentive and saved Cali's life and for that i am very Thankful.  Without there knowledge and of Veterinary medicine  Cali would not be here with me today so Thank you.  Yes it was very expensive and i wont lie, she was in the hospital over a week and her expense went up to 10k but you definitely get what you pay for.  They saved her life and thats all that matters to me. Yes i agree in a case of an emergency they should work with people and not be money hungry and i agree 100% about that. I luckily had pet health insurance on Cali and thankfully that helped me a great deal. Everyone gets to have there own opinion some good and some bad but other then them being really expensive i have nothing negative to say about this place. I thank you all for saving Cali's Life! I have contemplated whether to write a review for a few months. I realize that many people write reviews out of sheer anger,  grief, and oftentimes misstate truths out of vengeance, I did not want to write a review for any of these reasons but I do feel compelled to write something based upon my negative experience. I took my 8-year old dog here back in August because she had been experiencing difficulty breathing. After given a few different diagnosis and medicines, we were sent home. Things seemed better for a few days but it was clear the medicine prescribed was not resolving the issue. Therefore, we went back for another emergency visit (only because our primary vet was out of the office). The experience was horrifying and traumatic to my entire family and certainly to my dog, who passed away. We were told to leave the dog overnight for testing because it was getting late. We were told we would receive a call if something was wrong but if we heard nothing, it was good news. We were told we would hear relatively early in the morning. Around noon we still hadn't received a call so we were hopeful that our sweet dog was doing better.  I then called because I was wondering when I could retrieve her. When I called, I spoke with an incredibly crass woman who told me I better hurry down because my dog was about to "expire". The words still sting, especially because they were entirely unexpected. I rushed to the vet and found that my dog was in a hyperbaric chamber but that she wasn't being treated in any other manner because doctors felt that she was beyond help. This news was so shocking to us as we were told we would hear overnight if she was not doing well. At this point, a vet tech told us that our dog would not live more than a few more hours . A doctor then took her out of the chamber and took us to a room to discuss putting our dog down. The conversation was incredibly heartless. I realize that these doctors deal with death of animals frequently and that they may be more callous to the death of animals for that reason, but this doctor was downright miserable and  unprofessional. She continuously referred to the dog as "expiring". I find the word "expiring" to be a heartless way to describe a dog's passing and I also found it disturbing that the doctor made us feel like we were inconveniencing her by asking if there was anything else we could do to save our dog and about whether we could take her elsewhere, etc. Doctor's could not tell us what was wrong with the dog definitively but they certainly were quick to charge us thousands of dollars over the course of a few days with a detailed report of what they tried to give her. Seems perplexing to me. It's a shame that veterinarians aren't held to a higher degree and that there is no equivalent of doctor malpractice/a higher code of professionalism. I am certainly happy for those pet owners that have left positive reviews for this establishment, but I cannot say one positive thing about my experience or the staff of this clinic whatsoever. Moreover, I have a friend with a Yorkshire terrier whose yorkie has begun exhibiting very similar symptoms to those that my late yorkie had. Her yorkie was diagnosed with cushing's disease. Although I do not possess the expertise to diagnose an animal, every single aspect of cushing's perfectly describes what was wrong with our dog, yet this disease was never mentioned to us. Upon speaking to another vet, we were told that cushing's disease is prevalent in the breed and that in her opinion, it should've been one of the first things to research given our dog's symptoms. As I stated previously, it's a shame there isn't a higher level of quality required of veterinarians because some undoubtedly would not meet the threshold level required. I think it goes without being said, but I feel compelled to warn other pet owners to trust their gut with this place. If it seems like the doctor treating your pet is more interested in money than curing your dog or at least empathetically assisting you with your dog's last day with you, leave. Read Less

We recently had to take our dog Oreo to Valley Central for an ultrasound. I was amazed at the great care we received from the entire staff. Dr. Ron did the ultrasound and immediately after meeting him to discuss the results I knew we were in great hands. His detailed explanation of what he found made it very easy for me to understand what was going on with Oreo. I wish Dr. Ron could be our normal Vet but they only do specialty care there. I would also like to point out that during my time there I saw the practice manager Trish taking the time to talk to the pets and pet parents to make them feel more comfortable and welcome at the facility. We took our puppy here because they were recommended by our vet.  Our puppy had something with his eye and we met with Dr. Landis (Ophthalmology) who was wonderful and reassuring.  Fortunately it is nothing, but we rather be safe than sorry.  All of the staff we encountered were very nice. Last Saturday night we needed to bring our 16 year old baby girl in.  We knew she was passing but she was suffering so much we also knew we had to do something to help her.   Everyone was very kind and understanding of how much pain we were in.  We also had no choice but to bring our seven year old child with us because we did not have a sitter for him.  The one tech actually offered to watch our child so I could be with my dog.  She completely understood (without needing us to explain) we were trying to shield him from what was happening.  The only thing I hated was at first they took my girl to the back.  It seemed like forever until they let me see her again.  Yes, it is expensive but it is an emergency 24 hour a day operation.  When an emergency happens I am comforted to know I can get to a vet anytime day or night.  Thank you for being there. I've been here numerous times over the years. My family and I have had a lot of cats. The faculty is always, e.g., today Sunday September 3, 2017 day before Labor Day, here.Not just for emergencies. They have a large diverse faculty of expert veterinarians (specialties include cardiology [heart], oncology [cancer], ophthalmology [eyes], pathology, radiology, surgery, emergency medicine, and alternative medicine, e.g., acupuncture), technicians, and support staff.Always very friendly. Very understanding. After all, if your friend is a patient here, it must be serous.Not cheap. But the facility has high costs of 24/7 service, large staff, large facility, large parking lot, special equipment, etc. They even have a pet ambulance.I highly recommended them. Read Less

This group of people were fantastic. They cared for our senior dog who needed surgery for bloat and, thanks to the skill of these doctors, she pulled through. Was referred here by my vet for a 2nd opinion deal.  Dr. Carlos Hodges was excellent.  He was very knowledgeable and explained everything thoroughly.  Cost was pretty expensive.  My complaint is this,  was prescribed .75mg Dexamethasone for 60 days, cost a whopping $103.  Left and went directly to my vet and they quoted me a price of $30.  Valley charged 3.5 times the real price for the exact same dose. WHAT A RIPOFF!! I will never go here again.  I gave 2 stars because the doctor was excellent but their business practice is poor. Read Less

This place is wonderful. My husband is a veterinarian and this is the place we use for anything advanced. Dr Ron Hodges is friendly, knowledgeable, and dedicated. My family and I regret taking our dog there. The female vet kept us 4 1/2hrs when they knew we wanted to take him to Quakertown Vet, Hospital, and they put 2 holes in his 2 tubes when he could not breath right and they made my son put him in a cage where he went crazy. They made fun of his behavior, but would not let my son take him out to hold them. He had trouble breathing and eventually stopped breathing 5min.away from Quakertown Vet Hosp. They tried to revive him but could not do so. I hope someone sues them and forces them to sell to Vets that actually more for the animals than for the money they collect(esp. from needless and very overpriced surgeries and tests). Read Less

My name is Mariela Perez and I super-appreciate going to Valley Central for the care of my beloved cat, he was very sick and I was so worried he wouldn't make it. I met Dr. Ron and his staff and all I can say is that God bless them for being so kind and understanding human beings. Dr. Ron gave me very easy options to cure my cat and gave me hope that I wouldn't lose my poor baby. My cat was diagnosed with inflammation in liver and pancreas and now he feels perfectly fine thanks to Dr Ron's care and concern. I'm so glad I was referred to this blessing place. People who commit to a career in veterinary medicine must really love animals, right? Okay, so "love" is a strong word, but they should at least "like" animals, right? Fine, if not "like," they should feel some subtle urge to treat them, right? Whatever. I give up. A couple of nights ago, some very compassionate EMS providers raced to the aid of a couple who had been shot. Their dog, in a valiant effort to protect the couple, took the brunt of the bullets but was still alive. The hospital staff that received the couple also showed a great deal of empathy for this heroic canine, and the local police department raced the dog to Valley Central. A lot of people had come to care about the little guy in a very short - albeit traumatic - time.Melts your heart, right? The thought of medics, cops, nurses, etc. all rallying around this little "man's best friend?" Well, it ends there. Valley Central would do NOTHING for the wounded dog until they were guaranteed money upfront. Of course, had the owners not been riddled with bullet holes, they undoubtedly would have obliged. Perhaps due to the expressions of disbelief on those who had carried the dog to them, this vet staff eventually offered some pain meds. Gee, thanks, guys.Look, I get it. We all gotta make money. We've all been burned. But if a case like this doesn't call for a vet-skilled hand to look past the dollar signs and save a life, these guys are in the wrong business. Read Less

I love this animal hospital. I truly couldn't be any more happy then what I am with them. We had taken our dog else where before we were told about Valley Central and nobody else could give us answers, so many nights wondering, stressing, spending sooooo much money. First time here and I got all the answers to all of my quedtions. Hopefully we don't need to come back, but if we needed to, this would be the place I would be coming. Better yet they are open 24/7 so even when something happens at 2am, no place is opened, you're freaking out, well here ya go! Doctors, nurses, staff is all fabulous! Read Less

Stay away, my healthy 6 yr old Maltese suddenly developed Shortness of Breath. Took her to Valley Central, following over $900, monitored by "cardiologist" for 6 hours/ no call from "cardiologist", I called was told stable and being discharged with meds, I picked her up still breathing poor, was told by a desk staff Dr left for day give meds a chance, got home after 2 hr commute still breathing bad, I called DESK staff said give meds a chance again!!! Keela passed 3 hrs later, I wrote a letter was told someone would get back to me that was December 30th/ Today is March 23, 2017.I know I cannot help Keela but I do no want anyone else to go through this. This is by far the best place ever! I have been coming here for over 10+ years with various fur babies and I continue to be amazed! It's almost a 90 min drive for me one-way and worth every mile. The doctors and staff are so loving and caring and will truly treat your baby like one of their own. I feel so fortunate to be part of this amazing family! To say that this place is a $$ pit is an understatement. I walked in the door and stood at front desk for 10 minutes before either of the 2 receptionist even looked up. No hello or smile. Nothing. Name? Sign here.. sit and wait.. 1/2 hour later... nurse says come with me.. again no smile.. asks, what are you here for? Puts us in a small room then disappears for another 1/2 hour. Finally Dr. arrives and yes she answers all if my questions but seems like I'm just another on her list. Oh did I mention that not one single staff member ever greeted my dog?? Horrible! After an hour of sitting in a small room, I walked out and asked to check out. They presented me with another bill for $178. When I questioned the amount the stated that it was for nurses recheck and labs. Ridiculous! My biggest complaint with this facility is the lack of friendliness and compassion. How easy it is to forget that OUR PETS are FAMILY. NOT just another number!Read Less

Dr. Clendaniel was extremely competent, compassionate and saved my dog Willows life along with the skilled nursing staff at VCV! I can't thank you all enough for what you did for our family. The owner of this place is a very disrespectful and rude person his antics trickle down all the way to the front door staff . All they try to do is get you to sign off on charges to bring your bill up. The woman that was on call at night is very inexperienced and they are unable to even use an endoscope to fix choking problems . It's an emergency center figure that one out. If you question anything that they are doing they become extremely rude and passive aggressive . They will take advantage of your feelings for your animal in order to raise the amount of your bill stay away from this place highly inexperienced staff and extremely rude. We took our dog, Karl, to Valley Central for abdominal issues where Dr Ron completed an EGD. They kept me informed as to how Karl was doing and honestly just gave him and us with the absolute best care. Dr Ron called me himself to go over results and plan. I don't believe these reviews should be based on money at all. This is an emergency center. Where else would you go to take care of your sick animal if you can go to your regular vet. Give them a break they work 24/7, weekends and holidays. Hopefully we don't need to come again but if needed we would chose Valley Central :) Read Less

My mother was in a Vet practice for more than 12 years. Thank God I know better. My cat is Dead because of the absolutely abusive rotten female attendants, and further, one or two were excessively mean to me. And Others I noticed too... Preying on people who desperately want to save their pets!!! I will never recommend this place to anyone. Even after I had a gold card, the rude condescending arrogant front desk clerk talked down to me as if she were punishing a kid who did something wrong! They wanted Hard cold cash! And they want it NOW. I raced the cat there on a weekend Saturday night to save her life! They didn't even want to give her fluids! After I gave them basically a gold card, then I STILL was being harassed for even more unnecessary tests as I checked with my mother and I checked with other veterinarians that I knew for years. People, trust me, I have no personal vendetta here, I just want to save you from going through the absolute pain suffering and HORROR that I did that night I will never forget that nightmare horror story so-called Vet Clinic. They have people In the office "staff" to tagteam you as they take /whisk the cat or dog away from you trapping him in the back so called "emergency treatment room (they claimed they were!)where they Claim to help him or her I watched this then they pull this fast one where they get somebody to come from the back when you've never even seen or met ... Until! Ahah! More cash!&$$$$$$$$and she is a monster , mentally and she will attack you and tell you if you don't pullout thousands of dollars like right now that they "cannot" help your pet (my quote was about 1700) please bear in mind this was in addition to the hundreds they had already received an order to just "see" the ()and you have to do it now and then the other one is on the other side of you yelling and pounding her fist on the counter where is the money you have to have cash we need cash hint they can pay people to try to bury the bad commentaries and They will have to keep doing it because they're going to have to with that staff !!! Mean people stink they hurt other people they hurt the pets they hurt everyone I will never recommend this place no sir. staff is coached to make maximum dollar and do as little as possible to your pet so they can keep the money it is a for-profit organization be sure of it In the end I was begging her just to Give me my cat back or to put the cat to sleep and take her Poor little life because the cat was suffering I wanted her to put her to sleep and you know they wouldn't even do that they're rotten people don't go there the woman in the front was the rudest person I've ever encountered and I worked with countless veterinarians something Else that she did NOT know. Just to be clear I am only rating this on my last visit. I have taken animals there years ago and had no issues. The only reason they're getting three-stars is because the staff that I dealt with were all very nice. I took my cat there for an ultrasound after she had an x-ray at the vets and they saw something suspicious. $1,300 later they tell me it's a urinary tract infection. That was approximately 3 weeks ago. Since then my baby's been back to the vet twice and thank goodness her normal vet stuck to her guns that something was wrong and sent me for another ultrasound at a different place because she's got "huge kidney stones, an opening that shouldn't be there and a severe infection due to those. She will need surgery to correct it. If the doctor who did the ultrasound here would have caught it, it would have saved my baby 3 weeks of pain and me another close to $1,000 to have all the testing redone. The second doctor did say that it's highly unlikely this wasn't in her at the time of the first ultrasound, it wouldn't have gotten that bad that fast.Read Less

I have never seen an office so caring a compassionate about helping the animals as I have seen recently when my Dog Cali was Hospitalized cause she suffered from pyometra and then went septic and nearly did not make it. The doctors and nurses did everything in there power to save cali. With there love for animals my Cali is with me today. It was really a Christmas Miracle and if it wasn't for these compassionate bunch of animal lovers my dog would not be here with me today! My husband and i thank you from the bottom of my hearts for saving our baby girl Cali! Thank you for giving us our Christmas Miracle .. Dr. Carlos Hodges and his friendly staff are without hesitation the place to go with your pet. My golden retriever puppy has been dealing with panosteitis (canine version of growing pains) and he eventually was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia. My vet suggested going to Dr. Hodges. I drive an hour and a half to this facility because I know that they're the best. (I have another clinic less than 5 minutes from my house.) There's a reason I came to Valley Central, my vet trusts him with her animals, and now I know why. My Gus had his first surgery and it was a huge success. He is way ahead of schedule with his healing progress and that's because Dr. Carlos is amazingly talented. I also opted for the stem cell procedure. He goes for his second elbow next week and I am assured they will do everything for my boy. It is disappointing to see the negative reviews here. I have to tell you that I am quite particular with who takes care of my animals. I'm sorry for those of you who have experienced the loss of your pets. I know that all of his staff and doctors go above and beyond for all the animals that enter this facility. Keep in mind this is an emergency clinic too. Unfortunately in an emergency situation not all animals can be saved. And, in this day and age everything is expensive. I knew my baby was getting the best care he could possibly get being here. This place was awful!! I had called in early Sunday morning as my little 3.5 pounds dog jumped off a chair and broke her poor little leg... My poor baby was in so much pain she was shaking we checked her in and they made us wait 45 MINUTES!! To get into a room then they seemed more concerned about her weight(which we had just taken her to our normal vet and she it's 110% perfectly healthy) than they were about her poor little leg. It took 4 flippin hours for them to finally get their treatment complete and put a cast on my dog. They tried telling us that my normal vet didnt do the surgery they were suggesting which is complete bogus and then they wanted to charge us 3 TIMES more than what my normal vet ended up charging. I highly recommend never taking your animals there if you want your animal to be treated immediately. It was the worst experience I've ever had!!! Never again. I was referred to Valley Central by a friend/veterinarian to have our dog tested for Megaesophagus as has had trouble keeping down water since we brought him home at nine weeks. Our primary vet is very small and is not capable of providing testing for this disease. The only way to test and confirm MegaE is through a barium Xray. After the test was done, the vet confirmed the diagnosis and proceeded to act like the diagnosis was a death sentence. MegaE is a totally controllable congenital disease. For the amount of money they charge, I would expect a little more decency out of their vets. All they cared about was getting my visit over with and my bill paid. I've managed to find a compassionate and supportive vet who will be treating our dog going forward. Do yourself a favor and educate yourself before you continue to use their services. Our dog, Frizz suddenly couldn't use his back legs and was not able to use his front right paw. As pet owners, we were very concerned. We couldn't get into our normal vet due to work schedules, but was recommended by our vet to come see Valley Center Vet Emergency Center. We got right back into a room! The staff was very friendly! The Vet, Dr. Karen was very professional and did a full examination. We were able to choose our treatment options based on our financial needs. They were very supportive in each decision we chose! Our little Frizz was diagnosed with Lymes disease. We were able to get the meds right there at the visit and take our fur baby home! I highly recommend this Vet Hospital for any type of emergencies! Friendly, caring, professional staff! Frizz is doing much better! Taking his meds everyday like a champ! He's receiving lots of love and cuddles from us and our other fur baby, Lily! I am sorry to hear about the people who had negative experiences at the Valley Central Emergency Veterinarian but I have experienced nothing less than professionalism amongst the staff and pure compassion from Dr. Ron and Dr. Carlos. It was never about the money but the wellness of my babies, Tom and Jerry. Dr. Ron and Dr. Carlos are both very knowledgeable and always they both took the time to explain every step or procedure to me to ensure I understood what my babies were going through. To read that Dr. Ron is only about the money is so far from the truth. He accommodated me in so many ways that I don't know if I can do enough to repay him for his kindness and generosity. He and his staff took great care of Tom and Jerry to their last days and they were very sympathetic when it came time for me to bid farewell to my babies. That wasn't the end, to my surprise, I received a condolence package signed by Dr. Ron and his staff. Overall. This place is horrible.  Took my 3 year old cat there in the middle of the night. He had a blood clot affecting his rear legs and could not walk.  Dr. Candace Carter said the odds were they could get the blood clot to clear with medications, and my cat would be able to go home in a few days.  The next day she called and said she needed to put a nasal tube in to feed him, since he wouldn't eat.  I later found out they didn't use any anesthesia, and just jammed the tube down his nasal passage.  He died right there.  By the time they called us, his body was cold and stiff.  I am so sorry I took my cat to this "butcher shop".  Blood was coming out of his nose when we buried him. My vet referred me to Dr. Carlos Hodges for my golden puppy who has been having issues with pano. My vet suspected elbow dysplasia. Dr. Hodges came in for my appointment and was very personable, knowledgable and kind. They did what they needed to to get a diagnosis and he called me the next day with the results and a plan. I am confident my baby is in the right hands. I also need to mention that their entire office staff was tremendous. They were all so kind and patient and very professional. I have some veterinary background and was a technician for several years. Not many veterinary hospitals stand out as stellar. I without any hesitation would recommend Valley Central to anyone. Valley Central Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center are awesome! My dog Jr was very sick with diabetes and Dr Ron Hodges went above and beyond to help him to get better. He is so caring and helped me to get Jr well again. Jr also had a tumor and Dr Carols Hodges performed surgery to remove the tumor and Jr is now a new pup! I can't say enough about the excellent care the doctors and staff gave Jr. If it wasn't for their services I don't think Jr would be with me today. On July 23, 2016 I had to rush my 14 year old husky to this location. He was not doing good and I had to rush him to this ER. On the way there I had called them to let them know we were in our way and what happened. I just want to thank the staff here for all their help that night. In 2011 my veterinarian told me my 6 year old Yellow lab has Kidney failure, gave me some saline IV bags and sent me home to watch her die. A vet tech called me from my vets office and said to call Dr. Ron, she's going to be fine. I did. Dr. Ron Diagnosed my pup with Addisons disease. After a VERY EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH EVERY PENNY 3 night stay, I got my puppy back, literally. It was like she was a puppy again. Our vet recommended that our American Bulldog, Buster, be scheduled for exploratory testing last Friday by Dr. Carter at Valley Central. Though I was concerned about the negative reviews, trusting our vet, Dr. Visintainer and speaking with an Internal Medicine nurse at the hospital, Kim, I was reassured that Buster would get good care. Throughout week, I spoke with Kim and another nurse about properly keeping Buster nourished and hydrated in anticipation of Friday's procedure. Unfortunately he took a turn for the worst on Thursday and I spoke with Kim who agreed that we should bring Buster in through the Emergency Center. They met us at the car with a gurney and were knowledgeable, compassionate and caring. Sandy, one of Buster's nurses, kept us constantly informed of what to expect. Dr. Epps was simply outstanding from the moment we met him, taking Buster's history, suggesting first steps, reviewing test results, allowing us to make informed decisions on what we should do and spending all the time we needed with us. Upon further testing, it was apparently that Buster was much sicker than anyone realized and Dr. Epps outlined options but suggested that the most humane thing would be to say goodbye to our boy, as he would never recover. He never wanted to give us false hope or order unnecessary tests. Between testing, we laid on the floor with Buster and in the end, they gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye that night. Kim called when her shift started the next day as she was expecting Buster to be an in-patient and expressed her sincere sympathy. Although the outcome was not what we expected, the care Buster received was outstanding in every way and we were comforted along the way. I hesitated taking our sick dog to Valley Central after reading some of the negative reviews, but on a Sunday morning following an historic blizzard we didn't have many choices. We couldn't have been happier with our decision!Dr. Stacey Dietrich is the vet who saw our pup after a quick and easy check-in, and she was one of the most patient, understanding, and thorough vets we've EVER seen. She never once tried to rush us, no matter how many times we questioned and re-questioned her. She didn't chastise us when we told her we feed our dogs a raw food diet, or when I questioned her about her recommendations. She immediately understood our concerns and offered alternatives that we were more comfortable with. And finally, she offered us an à la carts list of tests she recommended, ranging from a conservative approach, to a more comprehensive (and of course, expensive) protocol. She explained each test in detail, and what we could learn from any possible results, and never once pushed us to do more testing than was necessary. In short, Dr. Stacey Dietrich let US decide what the best course of action was for our own dog, after she gave us the information we needed to make an educated decision. She even made recommendations on how we can best follow up with our regular vet, to ensure our dog will receive everything he needs, but nothing he doesn't. We trusted in Dr. Stacey Dietrich so much that we wish we could see her as our dogs' regular vet, and not just in an emergency situation.Finally, I should mention that the two nurses we saw were also extremely kind, helpful, and patient with us and our sick dog. I'm sorry that some people's experiences were unsatisfactory, but we were completely satisfied and happy with our decision to take our dog to Valley Central, and absolutely would do so again in any emergency. We are so lucky to have this resource available in our community! Dr. Ron and all the techs and staff have been beyond amazing in our family's very trying time. They treated our dog, 2 cats and Guinea pig for smoke inhalation after our house burned down. The vet care was exceptional and I am happy to have my pets with me today. A TRUE CHRISTMAS STORY My beloved dog was basically on hospice for the last four months. As fate would have it, the tumor in her nasal cavity caused bleeding and breathing problems on Christmas afternoon. I called Valley Central and inquired if a veterinarian could euthanize her in my van, something they did for my last dog back in 2004. I explained that I would be taking the dog with me to be cremated. The receptionist said she didnt know if the vet would be willing to do that, and then proceeded to say, Do you know how busy we are? She agreed to ask the vet and told me she would call me back in 10 minutes. Its been three days, and I still have not received a call. I was lucky enough to find a compassionate veterinarian who was able to assist my dog and my family. Although they may have skilled veterinarians, my three experiences over the past 10 years has been less than satisfactory. This was due to a non-compassionate attitude, mostly from the front office staff. Read Less

I recently took my wonderful cat here. I regret that part of her last hours was spent suffering in the black hole behind their locked beige doors and away from me. When I brought her in, I had a feeling she had started the process of passing away. I just wanted to make sure, and also to assure that I could at the least make it comfortable. The Vet and a truly heartless and terrible nurse with the initials TW used my cats condition to try to extort almost 3 grand from me. When they approached me with their life saving services they admitted they only managed to do a chem panel and put her in an oxygen tank. They never x-rayed her or performed an ultra sound on her abdomen which they stated was swollen and bruised. When I denied these "life saving services" because I knew it would only extend her pain, they immediately pulled her off of the oxygen (apparently) and then proceeded to guilt tripped for me next two hours. They made statements that my choice would kill my cat more than five times. The nurse/invoice creator was kind of enough to try to pawn a credit card application on me to pay for their services I denied this too. When I asked for her back to take her home and let her pass in her own bed, they made me wait another hour and half. During that time TW decided decided to talk about me and my decision on the other side of the door in my room. She called me names including heartless and cruel. We final received my baby back half shaven and even more exhausted and they made wait another half hour in the room for my invoice for their services. Finally we decided to go out to the entry room were found TW chatting it up with other people about how cute their puppy was and her puppy or cat or whatever beast she owns. Once she spotted us, she quickly went over their discharge then shuffled back for our discharge papers shaking her head and made us wait another half hour. After which she shuffled back in sat next to my girlfriend and in speaker phone volume stated that by allowing the Vet and ER to discharge my cat I'm killing her. I was embarrassed and heart broken. I regret bringing my cat here. They are not caring, loving or kind. The sicker the animal the bigger the dollar signs for them and the better they meet whatever trumped up quota they need to meet. If I could give them no stars I would. I'm even thinking about reporting them to PETA for animal cruelty as all treatments were done behind those hideous beige doors. Oh yeah, they charged me $400 dollar for a Chem Panel, steroid shot and a catheter. They didn't even bother putting a saline line in before performing blood tests, as I told them she had eaten or drank all day. Read Less

I was sent to Valley Central by my vet because he did not have the necessary equipment or staff to care for my dogs ailment. He did warn me before we left that it could be expensive, and he was not kidding. I will say that the staff & Veteranarian that treated my dog were kind, professional, and attentive to our needs. Unfortunately the bottom line here is the almighty dollar, not caring for your pet. They hit you for cash before you ever see a doctor. And if you do not have the money you are out of luck. My only option was to come up with $600.00 to keep him alive until morning, which would buy me some time to find another $2000.00 to continue his treatment. Tough decisions had to be made & my boy is in doggie heaven now. So my advice would be to stay away unless you are flush with $$$$. Read Less

Stay Away!I am scared that valley vets still tell people to go there for emergencies!  They not only had no clue how to care for my pet but they cost me huge $$$$ and he would have died under their care.  I went to Penn/Ryan Veterinary Hospital who saved my pets life!  5 years later and he is still doing great at almost 13yrs old. I have heard nothing good from people I know who have used them and so many people who haven't know not to go.  Penn in Philadelphia was way cheaper, better care and was honest!  I will go to Penn for all serious issues with my pets.  Expensive and painful experience for my pet at Valley Central.  Lesson Learned! If it's midnight, or a holiday, and you have an ABSOLUTE EMERGENCY, this place may be your only choice.  And it's not a good one.The first time I went there, it was almost midnight, and I came home to find my cat had a hole in his stomach! He had impaled himself on something. I rushed him there wrapped in a towel, where they of course made sure I could cover the $150 security deposit before he could be seen.  The vet basically told me he'd die if I didn't let them perform surgery right then, and quoted me over $600.  I didn't have $600, which they guilt tripped me about.  I insisted they send me home with antibiotics for his infection and I'd call my vet in the morning.  After much guilt tripping, I took my cat home, stayed up with him all night, and took him to his regular vet the next day, where the surgery and 2 day's worth of antibiotics and pain meds cost me $90. $90!!!! Hmmm.....The second time I went, it was New Year's night and my new puppy rolled off the couch and broke his leg. I sat in the waiting room (for an hour with a puppy screaming in pain) and watched as they turned away a crying woman with a dying pet because she didn't have $150.  Her pet probably died that night because these people don't give a sh*% about animals. Anyway, after an x-ray I was told my puppy needed a $1500 surgery right then and there.  Since I had learned my lesson after my cat, I simply requested pain meds for the night and copy of the x-ray. More guilt tripping, basically telling me what a horrible pet owner I was.  First thing in the morning, my puppy went to see my regular vet, who looked at the x-ray and informed me he broke his salter bone, which is a common break in small breed puppies, and that it would heal just fine on it's own. It did, and he's perfectly healthy and happy. The mission of this place has nothing to do with animal care, it has to do with the bottom $ line and it's shameful!  How they can talk about caring for animals and then TURN AWAY sick pets because their owners don't have the money at that second is beyond me!  So if you are forced to go there because of timing, keep in mind, get whatever pain meds or antibiotics that will get your pet through the night and then take them to a real vet the next day. After 7 months and many blood tests, urine analysis, x-rays, prescription dog food, antibiotics, and other medicines, at my local vet, I still had no definitive answers to what was wrong with my 5 month old puppy. She was struggling with bladder issues, crystals in her urine, continuous infections, and lack of bladder control. After months of time consuming office visits, I was referred to Valley Central Veterinary Center for further testing and analysis. I had a great experience with a very cooperative and helpful staff who took a complete history of what was happening with my dog. I then met with Dr. Carlos Hodges, who explained what he believed the problem to be and how it could be resolved. After agreeing to the treatment plan, my dog had successful reconstructive surgery . After healing from surgery, I met with Dr. Ronald Hodges for his expertise in internal medicine and what would be the next step in curing my puppy of her problems. I am very grateful to both Dr. Ronald Hodges and Dr. Carlos Hodges for their expertise, patience, and generosity. Thank you so very very much. I took my dog there after he suffered a fall and was paralyzed in the hind quarters.  The first thing they did was take my gold American Express card.  After that came  an MRI, surgery, rehab.  All to no avail.  I had called my regular vet, who told me it would be best to put him down.  Valley said "If it were my dog, I would do the procedures as we suggest" $10,000 later, he never got better.  My usual veterinarian was correct. And by listening to these people I failed my pet by putting him through all those procedures.  In no way would I ever support taking your animal to this hospital. Read Less

Went there today because my dog was vomiting since yesterday...... Thought I could get him seen ..... Probably needed an antibacterial drug...... But these folks want $$$$$as soon as you walk in..... They talk about estimates and procedures..... I filled out the paperwork..... Which requires a $125 fee up front.....no one was waiting in the waiting room....and I could see that at least 2 of the rooms were vacant..... Yet I waited probably 15 mins until I came to my senses and ask for the money back.... They obliged.....and I left..... I'll see my vet tomorrow.  I ask this question..... Bless you Dr. Ronald Hodges. I went to 2 different local vet offices:1- Vet in Allentown (said X-ray was fine)The Allentown Vet recommended I put my dog on pancreatitis medication so I did. So mad I ever wasted time and money going there. 1- Vet in Easton 2nd opinion - I went 2 wks later. They noticed something abnormal in an X-ray (they called me days later to tell me this)Finally, I took my dog to Valley Central since Nowhere else could do an Ultrasound immediately. At this point my dog had been sick for 3 weeks. Constantly throwing up, losing weight.Dr. Hodges did an Ultrasound and in MINUTES told me my dog either has a tumor or ate a foreign object. She's having surgery today.Thank you Dr. Hodges so so much! We seriously love you. I will never go anywhere else I Cannot express my gratitude to you enough. I have heard nothing but good things about Valley central and now I know why. It ended up being a foreign body..... she swallowed some huge plastic thing that was in her intestines..... 7/9/15 My dog has been doing great. Dr. Hodges saved her life! She was acting herself 2 days after surgery. Bless him!! He is such a great Doctor and good hearted person. It is impossible to find such an honest Doctor that cares so much about the welfare of your pet. I wish I had gone here first. Took my French Bulldog puppy to the emergency room because it was having trouble breathing. I was fortunate to get attention right away and the care they provided was very good and had very few complaints. The bill for a a one and a half days stay was upwards of $2,000. They charged $86 for oxygen for one hour. And little thing were ridiculously expensive. Measuring oxygen in the  blood (machine clips in the mouth and reads it in under a minute) $27!!! This is a 1 star deduction in my opinion for rating. Why then I rated it so low? Well,  as soon as my puppy got better I was sent home with a few antibiotic pills.  The staff took a liking to my puppy and said bye. So far so good. My puppy lost his appetite and I called next day to let the vet know that he was not eating. The receptionist asked the doctor, and all I got was a dismissive "I don't know what it could be"  and was told to bring him back, and that because 24 hours had passed that I would need to pay for a consultation. 3 minute Google search revealed that the two antibiotics prescribed cause loss of appetite. Seems like as soon as they got my money, the great care that was being shown stopped as I went through the door. I thought that some of the reviews here were wrong. Now I see how accurate they were. If you care for your animal, please do not go there for care. We waited for 8 hours with our pet, and the receptionists totally ignore us. They don't care how upset you are over your pet. They had our dog in the back for four hours in a cage and never gave us updates. It was only after I approached them to find out the status of him, that they told us the Dr, didn't even see him yet. Then after 7 hours , the Dr. Did not even know what issue the dog had and had no idea what he was there for after we gave them his records and x- rays. We knew less after we left there than we did before we went. The Drs and the staff show NO Compassion for the animal or the owners. I have now been waiting here for 4 hours in the exam room. I saw the doctor 3.5 hours ago. Signed off on the medicine I was going to give him and still have not been given the medicine. My poor dog has been in this room vomiting for 4 hours. I am sure there are more extreme cases that need to be tended to, but then they should at least allow us to go home so my dog can be in the comfort of his home, and then I can come back when they find the time to hand us the antibiotic. To add insult to injury I can hear all of the employees laughing in the background and talking about their 700 calorie diets. Read Less

I would not refer anyone there. The staff is fine, but the fees are the highest I have ever seen and I have had special needs pets before that required specialized care - no where near as disgustingly expensive as this place! If your pet has to be hospitalized, you can expect to pay about $1,100 per day EXCLUDING surgery. God help you if your pet needs surgery - you will be taking out a mortgage on your house! confused...this place used to have a lot of negative reviews on yelpdid they redo their page?or perhaps their service did in fact get better?i'd do some research before i went here because as far as i knew it was not a 4star establishment...let me knowI did infact go around 1-26-11, as a last option when my cat was dying and there was a bit of a wait and they wanted to keep my cat overnight and run test to the tune of a lot of money just to see if it was ok for surgery.  Unfortunately my cat was in pain and aging so i did what i thought was best at another vet hospital.  I cannot speak on how much i feel ok going back here as my experience was limited and extreme.do you research on this place is my advice, scope it out first and post your experience.they may have a better system for taking care of pets these days but i just wonder where the previous reviews had gone? Caring, knowledgable, & professional.  My Savannah cat had gone to our vet for routine shots.  We went home and she began to act differently, had diarrhea, and began hissing at me.  It became apparent that something was terribly wrong.  My vet was closed and a snow storm was brewing.  I contacted Valley Central and rushed her there.  In a matter of a few hours Savannah was severely dehydrated with a temperature and was going downhill quickly.  We arrived in about an hour which was very quick considering we were having a bad snow storm, they took her immediately and gave her Benadryl right away.  During the time they began to work on her I completed the paperwork and paid them a required deposit.  The veterinarian and assistants were very helpful and explained what was happening and what procedures they may or may not need to perform.  I was very concerned and called several times about her progress over the next 24 hours and each time they were understanding and helpful.  Savannah came home the following evening since she was stabilized and no longer dehydrated.  Valley Central saved my little peanut and she no longer gets more than one shot at a time.  This is the latest experience I've had.  Prior to this my Doberman has gone there after eating rawhide, as well as my Pomeranian after eating a small pretzel.  I highly recommend this place.  Wish they were located closer.  One negative would be the required deposit fees.  And for this I give them ****.  Luckily I had the funds to pay them; had I not had the money my Savannah may not be with us today:( Read Less

I honestly wouldn't refer anyone I know to Valley Central. We showed up at 3pm and didn't even SEE the vet until after 5:30. To say we were irritated is an understatement, considering the office wasn't even busy and there was 3 vets on staff that day.Dr. Nader was the vet that looked at my dog. Mind you, my dog is a rescue and was abused by men in the past. She typically lets out a little growl and then sniffs whoever the guy in question is, and then she is fine. So, low and behold, she let out a little growl and went to sniff Dr. Nader, who told us to "Hold onto our dog and DO NOT let her sniff him." Um... ok? He then proceeded to go through the physical exam WITHOUT EVEN ONCE TOUCHING her. The best part? They wanted over $1,500 to put her under and suture a puncture under her eye (mind you, this puncture would have needed 2, MAYBE 3 sutures TOPS) I was in shock. Are you kidding me?? Needless to say I left with pain medication and antibiotics to get us through the night, and went to my own vet first thing in the morning.... Who charged me $195. Hm. $1,500 vs. $195. All I can say is if you get Dr. Nader, run for the hills. Read Less

My Jerret was seventeen years old and i had to put him down it was 4:30 in the morning and i could not wait for the vet to open he was is so musch pain. They immediatily helped Jerrett, but also helped me with my loss. The staff is professional, kind, caring and so thoughtful. They truly understand it not a pet it's a love one. My 3 month old Yorkie, Teddy, became bloated and was vomiting. He stopped pooping. We rushed him there. My VISA card did not have enough to cover the 150 dollar fee to be seen. We were turned away for inability to pay. What stinks is that Teddy's condition is serious and required immediate medical attention. I found another vet who took a payment plan and was more concerned about Teddy getting better than the almighty dollar. My puppy almost died due to Valley Central being so greedy and uncaring. It is funny how they said he was so ill and changed their tune when My VISA did not have enough cash on it. I will tell anyone not to go there. The technician who looked at Teddy was so ignorant she could not tell he was a boy and thought he was a girl. Teddy had a bloked bowel which could have killed him. He is very tiny and hypoglcemic and was shaking and going into shock but they did not care. Read Less
