I am giving this five stars on account of a number of reasons. Stay tuned.I was in town, visiting my sister (she lives in Riverside) and my 85 lb labradoodle, Oscar was relentlessly licking at his joint on his front leg. I took a closer look at it and my sister and I agreed that I should take him to the Vet. A quick search on yelp led me to a number of animal hospitals. Then, my sister said, why don't you take him to my vet, Dr. Evans? My sister has been taking her rescue to Dr. Evans for years. Through a deeper search on yelp, I found her!I called immediately and started explaining my situation to the person that answered the phone. The gentleman told me to hang on and that he would put the Dr. on the phone. The Dr.??? WOW! In NYC, it's a dream to have 3 minutes with the Dr in person and you're putting her on the phone? Dr. Evans explained that she was short staffed today but if I could bring Oscar in in the next 20 minutes, she would see him. We hopped in the car and Oscar and I found the clinic which looked somewhat like a converted house with a large porch and ramp nestled in a nice neighborhood (and also right down the street from a cute pet boutique). Dr. Evans saw Oscar immediately and assured me that she "had been doing this for 27 years," and she again apologized for being short staffed. She was very good with Oscar and didn't need an assistant and narrowed right in on the problem. She said it appeared to be a subaceous adenoma and the best treatment would be oral steroids and a powder to dry out (the warty) elbow. Gross, I know. She explained the dangers, risks and benefits of treated with steroids so I felt very informed and had clear expectations and knew what to expect as in terms of his behavior and risk for infection if he didn't stop the licking. She also recommended that he wear the "ring of shame." I didn't know what that meant and she broke it down for me that he would need a cone. Fine, anything to make my dog better, I was willing to pay for it, wear it, walk through fire, etc. I asked her if she had any at her office that I could purchase and she was a bit hesitant, not knowing if she had one that would fit him. She did not push a product on me WHATSOEVER. If anything, I was the one who really wanted to buy one at the office because I didn't want Oscar to lick his elbow one more time! Dr. Evans measured his neck and luckily, she had a "procollar" ring that was $26 or so. She gave Oscar two prescriptions and bless her heart, she couldn't get the label maker to work, so she wrote them out old school style. Since she was short staffed, she let me know that her staff would call me to bill me either through credit card or I could pay by check. I asked her what the total might be and she quoted around $145. I tried to remain calm as I walked Oscar back to the car and knew that if I had taken him to the vet in the city, it would have been over $400. The next day, Dr. Evans called to check on Oscar's condition and behavior! I was blown away because a check up phone call was completely unexpected. The following day, the Vet Tech, called to check up on Oscar and collect payment. The total was $141.00 and she was sending an invoice to me in the city so that I could put it in Oscar's file at my own Vet clinic. Then yesterday, the Vet Tech called again to check up on Oscar. I have truly appreciated the care I received here. It has not been a full week yet, so we will see how Oscar's elbow continues to heal. Read Less
