I have a fear aggressive rescue dog.  When I called to make his appointment they advised me to call ahead when I get there so they can make arrangements to bring him into the facility without people or other dogs making him anxious.  They took us right on time and without incident. Dr. Springer and the vet techs were amazing. They were understanding and knew exactly how to handle an anxious aggressive dog.  Dr. Springer did the entire visit sitting on the floor petting him and making him feel comfortable. She addressed all my concerns, answered all my questions, and gave advice on training techniques. If you are ever worried about leaving your pet with strangers, I urge you to come here. I'm currently in the exam room, watching my dog in the back with the techs who are doing exactly what I would be doing if I was allowed in the X-ray room with my boy. They are stroking his ears, giving him kisses & talking to him the whole time. I drive an hour to come here & I will never go anywhere else. Let me start by saying that the staff at the front desk and the techs were warm friendly and kind. I am rating this place low because of their lack of understanding when it comes to working with dogs with behavioral needs.  I was very disappointed in how they handled my dog. He suffers from severe PTSD(suffered serious abuse and trauma in last home) and becomes aggressive when fearful while at the vet.  Instead of supporting him and me, Dr. Gifford was incredibly rude and actually made me cry by her response to his behavior.  She borderline made me feel that we needed to put him down.  We have since gone to Tufts for behavior support and were reassured that his behavior is appropriate given his past. They've given us amazing training support to help him improve.    It would've been nice to be able to stay with abbot as I've seen how wonderful their care for the average pet can be, but unfortunately they just don't cut it for the animals with these types of needs. Always a pleasant experience with Abbott Valley Vet. The receptionists are kind, knowledgeable, and are happy to answer any questions I have when I call them. Appointments are very easy to make. The waiting area is clean and I've never had to wait more than a minute or two before getting my dog in a room. All of the medical staff are FANTASTIC! They are so loving and understanding and always put in the extra effort to make my pup happy and comfortable while doing their work flawlessly. I am always impressed by the staff at Abbott. The women at the front desk were friendly and patient, even throughout the whimpers of little furballs in the waiting room. Dr. Gifford was concise, effective, friendly, and informative. She answered all of my questions fully and (unlike many other Doctors in my experience) never seemed to be burdened by the extra time it took to ask. She treated both me and my dog, Kaya, with respect and smiles. Eric was our vet technician. What a pleasure it is to be in his presence. He truly displays a love for animals and his understanding of my dog and ability to give her comfort was magical. I drive from the East Bay all the way to Cumberland to bring our pets to Dr. Gifford. Over the years I have tried other vets that are closer to our home...but on several key occasions, other vets have misdiagnosed problems with our pets, and I always wound up going back to see Dr. Gifford. Her clinical skills are top-notch. At this point, we will only bring our (5) pets to Abbott Valley. And the office staff are very nice, too! Read Less

In my opinion, Abbott Valley Veterinary Center, is the absolute best place around to take your fur babies for all their care. I have been taking my fur babies there for 20+ years and would never even consider going anywhere else. Dr. Gifford is very professional, compassionate, conscientious, friendly and at the top of her field. I know both Mollie and Bella are getting the best care possible. I also like Dr. Mowry and Dr. Tanguay and have 100% trust in all of them. The Techs there are also professional, friendly, compassionate and care for every patient as if they were their own with the love and care they show each of them. The facility is always spotless. I started out with Dr. Gifford when her office was right next to RT 295. She has always been very helpful with every visit... This pass September one of my cats, who was 13 years old, was acting strange so first thing on a Monday morning I called & was able to bring him in that day... We tried a few different medications & I even got to meet Dr. Mowry who was covering for her on the week-end... (I had sent her an e-mail & she took time out to call Dr Mowry to discuss what we should do. With nothing helping him I decided it was time to let him go over the rainbow bridge. Dr Mowry couldn't have been any kinder than he was...He got Mr. Clyde ready for his injection & brought him back to me (who was sitting on the floor) so I could hold him while he did it. Everyone was so great with me & I can't thank them enough for all they did. I know I'll be seeing them again because I still have Miss Bonnie here & I will always have a pet that will need some care from there... Be sure to try they out, you won't be sorry... Read Less
