I have been taking my dog here since she was a puppy. Sadly we just put her down and it was truly heartbreaking. Povar has been there for us all the way through. All the veterinarians are great and have gone above and beyond in treating my four legged family members! I'm especially thankful to Dr. Pyun. All the staff is great too. We have a dog and five cats several of which have long-term medical conditions, and VCA Povar Animal Hospital has been there for them and us through some difficult times. Great vet care! We've been taking our dog here since we got her as a puppy last summer and they have always been kind, patient, and informative. The prices seemed high to me at first, but after shopping around I found they were comparable to other Providence-area vets, and they never push any services or products on you. Made the very difficult decision to put my beloved 15 year old cat because he was suffering from a multitude of health conditions and strokes. We listened to the nurse at the desk convince an elderly woman that not buying an expensive food they sell for her dog would be "endangering his health". A nurse misheard me when I described my kitty getting aggressive and they wanted to hold him overnight for an incredible sum of money and told me they would be cutting his head off post death to do a rabies test. I did not want his last night to be alone in a strange place and certainly did not want my friend decapitated and told her he would be better off dying at home and left. They called the ASPCA and the police on me which we had to deal with before we could go home. My kitty was so stressed he had another stroke and died in his cat carrier before we could even get him home. It was one of the most horrible experiences and my cat died in pain in a cat carrier. Povar Animal Hospital wants to screw you for money and will call the police on you if you refuse. I'm totally heartbroken. Read Less

We have been clients with Povar Animal Hospital since 1975 when we moved to R.I. During that time, we have had Delilah, who lived to be 22 y.o. We adopted an abused Great Pyrenees dog, Sasha, who was with us until she was 9-1/2 due to liver disease probably from her former owners, Next, we were the luckiest owners of Breezee who was kind enough to follow her mom (me) each time we went to N.H. to visit. She was blessed to live 12 wonderful years and was Sasha's niece. Since our breeder was no longer breeding, we contacted the President of N.E.Pyrenees who happily sold us our Isabella, who was great as long as no one tried trimming her feet! She passed on Good Friday in 2005. April school vacation came, and we felt ready for a new puppy! I found Golden Retrievers living in R.I.who had 17 pups and felt they needed a forever family--something I thought they might not get. We got 1 Male,CrackerJack (mama's boy) and Sassafrass, our glorious girl--who was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in 2014. Under VCAs' very concerned care, Sassy LIVES ON! First - notice how some of the negative reviews are written in the poorest of English... so those probably aren't legit. anyways, I have been taking my dog there for a while now, and the entire staff of receptionists and doctors have been great. Any issue I have had with my dog has been dealt with efficiently and cheaply. I like the overall approach that they have based on the severity of the situation, either decisive action or wait and see. My dog is older, and has had a variety of untreated problems over the years, but when I got her and brought her to the vet - problems solved, without spending a fortune on "exploratory surgeries". thank you Povar.
