Dr. Hassinger & staff are all very knowledgeable & great. But the care I received when I had to humanely have my dog put to sleep was above and beyond. It was an emergency visit and they knew why we were there, but still gave my dog oxygen so she was comfortable in her last few minutes with us. Dr. Hassinger also lit a candle and went through a small ceremony of sorts before the lethal injection. This showed me that she was totally in tune with what I needed right then and was in no hurry to get the deed done and get on to her next patient. Dr. Hassinger sat with us for a bit then let us have as much time as we needed to cry in her office, hugging our beloved pet after she stopped breathing, until we were ready to leave. It is not an easy thing to do, but I felt like they all shared our grief and this meant a lot to me and my husband. Read Less

My husband had been bringing our dog here for a year. I was looking for a holistic vet and thought this vet sounded great. It was then discovered that he had a low grade heart murmur back in September of last year at the age of 6, knowing this he should not have been vaccinated due to the fact that he was not a healthy dog. I did not know this at the time, and I normally only vaccinate after the titer test is performed and we are very weary of all vaccines but by law rabies is required. The vet should have informed us that due to him not being 100 percent healthy he had the option to not be vaccinated because a side affect is heart failure (google if you don't buy that). We now have had two other vets one in smithfield RI and another in Hopkinton MA tell us that when a dog is not fully healthy, the vet will write up something as to why he is not being vaccinated, like a waiver. Both of his new vets agree this should not have happened. As I trusted the vet knew what she was doing, he was vaccinated and sent home with herbal remedies for the heart murmur. He went to his cardiologist and we were to check back later in a few months. Within the next few months he went from a low grade heart murmur and no prior health issues, to full blown heart failure. He spent three days at the animals hospital and they were able to save his life. He was put on meds and monitored closely. He has gone into heart failure three times total, each time defying everyones expectations and honestly wolf rock kept up with his updates really well. The vet was usually there to answer any questions and worked with us. Our dog did love her which is why I gave two stars instead of one.He is clearly in the last stages of heart disease and needs to be monitored closely. He has someone at home with him at all times and as long as he enjoys life we will let him stay as long as he likes. He went in for a checkup and blood work after what we said would be his last hospital stay because we cannot keep doing this to him. My husband met with the vet for the appt on a thursday. We waited a few days for the blood work and never received a call, apparently they took our new number down but never entered it into the system. After a week we called back and found out our vet had left the practice and never said a word. Apparently she had planned this for a bit and never told anyone. They told us this was normal for vets and our dog was welcome to see another vet there but one was only available on thursdays. Something sat wrong with me. My husband said she acted completely normal the day they saw her. Come to find out years before the same thing happened to our friend who's cat had kidney failure, but that time the vet had told her that she was leaving wolf rock. After searching out a new vet, we came across two amazing options and he is now seeing both. One is full blown holistic in Smithfield and the other integrates both like wolf rock but is much easier to get ahold of the vet when needed. They also communicate by email. Both have told us without a doubt that the vaccine played a major roll for his condition to progress rapidly, or is the exact reason but there is no proof. They told us that every pet owner should be warned. You cannot pinpoint exactly if that was it although he has heavy metal toxicity and not many other things could be the cause of that. He eats raw and freeze-dried, organic and a mix of organic veggies and treats. We have filtered water in our entire house and we use air filters, organic no voc paints and all of our furniture is non-toxic. We believe the metals came from the vaccine. Had we have been warned, we would have made a different choice. Life happens and choices are made and we are lucky that he has had the care he has had to give him a good life for as long as he is here. The worst part is that the last time he was in, they asked if he was going to get his vaccines. Knowing he is in such fragile health this makes me sick, especially coming from a "holistic" vet. I am not completely against vaccines (just mostly... like 99% now :) ), but I am against vaccinating sick dogs and we trusted out vet to help us make the best decisions, when we were newer to holistic animal practices. We were also told by ocean state and the two new vets that a vet leaving without a word is not normal, and not something that vets do. We might be paying twice the price for a better vet now, but it is completely worth it knowing our pets are in safe hands. I think this is a good option when you want something better than a conventional vet, because they try to use holistic before going conventional, but if you understand the dangers of vaccines on sick pets and you want a vet you can trust I would look into the holistic vet in hopkinton MA. The one in smithfield is completely holistic and does not offer blood work etc but together they work amazing! Read Less

Absolutely Amazing Veterinarians here. Everyone is so kind and show true concern over everything you may be experiencing. Highly Knowledgeable and non-biased in their approach is something i truly appreciate. Practically every Vet i have been to previously failed in all aspects. They all push medication and treatments onto you with no alternative. Not only does Wolf Rock thrive in those categories others failed, they exceed expectations. If there is any information on a certain subject they will walk you through it in a clear efficient manner. They will give you all options of remedy that may help. From natural and Holistic to the traditional practices. The Holistic approach is my choice however they have all the knowledge to treat a patient in the pharmaceutical manner as well. All around my search for the perfect Veterinarian is over since i found Wolf Rock. I will be a loyal client as long as i have furry loved ones in my life. :)Read Less

My 4 year old english labrador has Osteochronditis Dessicans, or however you spell it. He had already had one knee surgery and was headed for a second.  I took him to Wolf Rock, and Dr. Parkis said we could try the cold laser treatment and some chinese herbs and switching to home-cooked food, and if that didn't work after a month or so he would definitely need surgery. He got much, much better, and has never been this healthy in his entire life.  A plus is that his skin allergies also cleared up.  And while it is a pain to cook once a week, especially for three dogs, they are all doing really well. This vet is the same cost as the other vet, non-holistic, that we use.  All vets are very expensive these days, but then so is their education.  And the level of care for the animals is wonderful.  You will not hear howling dogs in cages in the back rooms at this place! Dr. Liz and her amazing team at Wolf Rock have been taking care of my dogs for the last 8 years. She treated my elderly family dog until she passed and she has been treating my two weimaraners since they were 2. I cannot recommend them enough. Dr. Liz always makes you feel as if you are the only patient of the day. She is compassionate always and firm when she needs to be. I was having a major meltdown about a problem with my little girl and couldn't calm down so she finally just looked me in the eye and said "You need to trust me, I know I can fix this, you just have to give it time." And she did. She fixed the problem good as new. I trust her and her staff so much, I have no problem sending someone else there with my own dogs because I can't take any time off from my new job. I could call the office 10 times before my dogs arrive to tell them "just one more thing" and they are just as kind to me on the 10th call as they are on the 1st. Knowing my dogs get the same care whether I am in the building or not, that is the kind of service you will get from the entire team at Wolf Rock. Read Less

Dr. Hassinger has been an essential part of all of my dogs lives since the first time we walked into Wolf Rock Animal Health Center in 1998. What she did for my dog Jasmine was nothing short of a miracle. When all other vets had given up hope, Dr. Hassinger gave her quality of life back and made me a believer in holistic vet care. Over the last 15 years all the care that my dogs have received at Wolf Rock has undoubtedly helped them to live happier, healthier and longer lives. I had high hopes for this place, as I really like the concept of holistic vet care, but was disappointed.I was given a Dr. King for my 5-lb dog who did not seem to like dogs at all. In fact, for the first 2 minutes of our appointment, she ignored my dog completely... except to say "will she stop barking?" Seriously, didn't even bend to say "hi" to my dog until I asked her to. She clearly had very little experience with small breeds, and almost couldn't draw blood from my dog. Took multiple tries, even though my dog was quite compliant. The icing on the cake was that, even though I had a bunch of questions, she slowly tried to inch toward the door... it was clear that she wanted to spend the minimum amount of time with me.In short, this was the worst veterinary experience I have ever experienced. Too bad. Read Less

All of the staff is always compassionate, understanding, knowledgeable, patient and caring. This is a staff that truly cares about their clients and their four legged family members.Read Less

If you want a vet who will berate you for not going 100% holistic with your pet, this is the place for you! I took my dogs there because Wolf Rock came highly recommended by a person who said they are a holistic practice, but they offer both holistic and traditional treatments. They may offer both, but make you feel like an awful person if you choose traditional.  The front desk staff is very kind and welcoming, hence the 2 stars. Read Less

Dr. Hassinger and the Health Center staff are caring, compassionate, patient, supportive, respectful, and informative.  They seem to enjoy what they do.  It comes through in their service. Both my dog and cat have been to the health center a number of times.  As a new client, I feel the doctor and staff really take the time to learn about my pets, the care I prefer to give them, what I know, and what I still need to be informed about.  The doctor discusses a variety of options available for treatment of whatever the situation may be.  A partnership in treatment for my pets best interest.Ive even gotten follow up calls from Dr. Hassinger to find out how my pets condition/healing is going.  Its rare to find a people doctor who will do that, let alone a veterinarian.  To me, thats a sign of dedication and interest in the patient. Too bad. Read Less

I am very pleased with the service and care my two cats have received at Wolf Rock.  Wolf Rock is a holistic/natural practice which I really appreciate.I recently left their group because of distance and regretted it almost immediately.  My elderly cat needed to be put down and they were so caring and supportive during this difficult decision and time. Everyone there was so wonderful. I even received a sympathy card signed by everyone. Very customer service oriented. Waiting area is divided between cats and dogs - so minimal stress and excitement on the parts of the animals. Exam tables are covered with quilts for comfort.Highly recommended and worth the drive!
