My husband had been bringing our dog here for a year. I was looking for a holistic vet and thought this vet sounded great. It was then discovered that he had a low grade heart murmur back in September of last year at the age of 6, knowing this he should not have been vaccinated due to the fact that he was not a healthy dog. I did not know this at the time, and I normally only vaccinate after the titer test is performed and we are very weary of all vaccines but by law rabies is required. The vet should have informed us that due to him not being 100 percent healthy he had the option to not be vaccinated because a side affect is heart failure (google if you don't buy that). We now have had two other vets one in smithfield RI and another in Hopkinton MA tell us that when a dog is not fully healthy, the vet will write up something as to why he is not being vaccinated, like a waiver. Both of his new vets agree this should not have happened. As I trusted the vet knew what she was doing, he was vaccinated and sent home with herbal remedies for the heart murmur. He went to his cardiologist and we were to check back later in a few months. Within the next few months he went from a low grade heart murmur and no prior health issues, to full blown heart failure. He spent three days at the animals hospital and they were able to save his life. He was put on meds and monitored closely. He has gone into heart failure three times total, each time defying everyones expectations and honestly wolf rock kept up with his updates really well. The vet was usually there to answer any questions and worked with us. Our dog did love her which is why I gave two stars instead of one.He is clearly in the last stages of heart disease and needs to be monitored closely. He has someone at home with him at all times and as long as he enjoys life we will let him stay as long as he likes. He went in for a checkup and blood work after what we said would be his last hospital stay because we cannot keep doing this to him. My husband met with the vet for the appt on a thursday. We waited a few days for the blood work and never received a call, apparently they took our new number down but never entered it into the system. After a week we called back and found out our vet had left the practice and never said a word. Apparently she had planned this for a bit and never told anyone. They told us this was normal for vets and our dog was welcome to see another vet there but one was only available on thursdays. Something sat wrong with me. My husband said she acted completely normal the day they saw her. Come to find out years before the same thing happened to our friend who's cat had kidney failure, but that time the vet had told her that she was leaving wolf rock. After searching out a new vet, we came across two amazing options and he is now seeing both. One is full blown holistic in Smithfield and the other integrates both like wolf rock but is much easier to get ahold of the vet when needed. They also communicate by email. Both have told us without a doubt that the vaccine played a major roll for his condition to progress rapidly, or is the exact reason but there is no proof. They told us that every pet owner should be warned. You cannot pinpoint exactly if that was it although he has heavy metal toxicity and not many other things could be the cause of that. He eats raw and freeze-dried, organic and a mix of organic veggies and treats. We have filtered water in our entire house and we use air filters, organic no voc paints and all of our furniture is non-toxic. We believe the metals came from the vaccine. Had we have been warned, we would have made a different choice. Life happens and choices are made and we are lucky that he has had the care he has had to give him a good life for as long as he is here. The worst part is that the last time he was in, they asked if he was going to get his vaccines. Knowing he is in such fragile health this makes me sick, especially coming from a "holistic" vet. I am not completely against vaccines (just mostly... like 99% now :) ), but I am against vaccinating sick dogs and we trusted out vet to help us make the best decisions, when we were newer to holistic animal practices. We were also told by ocean state and the two new vets that a vet leaving without a word is not normal, and not something that vets do. We might be paying twice the price for a better vet now, but it is completely worth it knowing our pets are in safe hands. I think this is a good option when you want something better than a conventional vet, because they try to use holistic before going conventional, but if you understand the dangers of vaccines on sick pets and you want a vet you can trust I would look into the holistic vet in hopkinton MA. The one in smithfield is completely holistic and does not offer blood work etc but together they work amazing! Read Less
