I have been a customer of NAH for many years and after reading the reviews, I wanted to provide my experience for what it is worth. If your attention span is limited to a tweet, skip this review. I would give NAH 2.5 stars if I could, but I can't so 3 stars it is. The care my pets have received from NAH has always been great. As a pet owner, my primary concern is quality of care. NAH has solid marks in this area. Both the hospital and the boarding facility have been accommodating in times of emergency as well, doing whatever is necessary to ensure this quality of care extends beyond routine care and business hours. Unfortunately there are not too many vets on the island and the lack of competition definitely has an impact on pricing, as several reviewers have noted. I would say NAH is VERY expensive. The high cost could be associated to quality of care (although other vets have similar or better quality at less cost), convenience (they have a large presence on the island), and/or price gouging (they are for-profit). I personally feel it is a mix of all 3. As with other reviewers, I've also had "wait time" issues and find waiting over 30 minutes past a scheduled appointment during regular business hours to be flat-out unacceptable. NAH needs to address this issue because it is beyond obvious they are simply trying to squeeze in as many people as possible. At their pricing level, there is simply no excuse for tardiness for nearly every scheduled appointment. This issue certainly makes it more difficult to justify the additional costs. Also aligned with several other reviewers, it is my experience that NAH WILL push all sorts of "preventive care" on you. And it adds up quickly. It can often be difficult to say "NO" to their suggestions, particularly if you are like me andsusceptible to guilt. When questioned about the need for these services, the general tone of the response is "well, if you loved your pet, you would do this".With that said, every pet owner can say NO to NAH's suggestions. Unfortunately, I would not rely on NAH to truly understand what is necessary versus what is the equivalent to an "Apple a Day" and a bowl of chicken noodle soup. If you are like me, you will say "Yes" to their suggestions, experience utter shock at the cost, research what you just paid for, wish you had gone to veterinarian school instead, and ponder over your month of Cheerios dinners if that damn Catholic guilt thing will ever stop working on you. To limit these add-ons, I highly recommend what has been successful for me the past few visits - contact NAH prior to your visit, ask for a list of treatments they will propose, and research each beforehand so you can make an informed and confident decision prior to being asked. Should a customer need to do this? No. However, I personally would rather have a larger list of ways to protect my pets' health and make informed decisions on each recommendation versus not knowing at all. It would be nice (ethical) if NAH provided this information for you but they are a for-profit business and your expectations should be set similarly as if dealing with any other for-profit business. In summary, the quality of care is great, the facilities are clean, the locations are convenient, the staff is helpful and knowledgeable; and you will pay for all of this. If finances are a non-issue and/or you need immediate urgent care, your pets will be in good hands at NAH. If you are like me and limited in your choices, be informed as to what is really needed BEFORE your visit to NAH in order to limit the financial damage but still expect an unnecessarily high bill regardless of why you are there or what treatments your pets receive. Otherwise , if you have financial concerns/limitations and you are able to bring your pets to another high-quality vet facility, I would highly recommend doing so. At the end of your visit, you WILL leave this vet with a shockingly large bill, regardless of why you visited in the first place... Read Less
