Great service from day one! I've been bringing my puppy here ever since his first day home. The vets and techs are wonderful! They ALWAYS return my voicemails and pick up my calls, so I've always been able to schedule appointments when my puppy needed one. Additionally, my puppy is obsessed with his techs, because they really take their time with each dog to make sure it always end in a good note. Regarding the pricing, I find it very fair. Tech appointments are used for vaccines, so that you don't get charged an unnecessary vet fee. Also, they make sure you don't waste your money away. One time I thought my pup had kennel cough, so I called to have him come in to get tested. I described his "symptoms" in detail over the phone, and my tech recommended I kept him home for observation because he didn't think he had kennel cough and didn't want me to waste money by bringing him in. It turns out my puppy wasn't sick.If you're still concerned about costs, consider getting pet insurance. Having a pet has a lot of costs and you should be prepared to undertake them. Read Less

I probably understand why they have such high reviews here. But my experience and expectations were different. I visited this hospital after reading the reviews was very excited about finding such a trustworthy animal hospital in town. The vet first told me my dog had a tooth crack, which is not true, and recommended their dental services. Then she constantly innuendoed that my dog had contracted lyme disease, which the test turned out to be negative. She constantly throwing the symptoms of lyme disease on my dog but everything turned out to be it was not true and it was due to her incompetence and unqualified training. However, she was exuberant on the site to recommend all kinds of medicine, treatments, and shots at their clinic. This proves that these vets are just licensed drug dealers trying to medicate my dog, which is totally against my belief about how dogs should be taken care in a holistic way. In addition, they charged me twice than else where just for an annual check, blood test, and two one-year shots. When I tried to order my dog's heart worm preventive chews from the same online retailer that I used for 3 years, they told me that they do not deal with online sellers just to be precautious, but they are not shy at all to recommend to spend money on their own medicines. This is is a place for white middle-class who are looking for more attention for their purebred dogs. I sensed that their service is completely money-driven, not out of authentic care for animals. I would really give them 2.5 stars, honestly they are way overpriced and the front desk personnel need to be retrained, the level of attitude and arrogance that comes from half of them is a bit much. Now the techs and vets from what I have seen are really nice and competent. However the place is always packed and getting an appointment isn't very easy either, so when you are there it seems like you are more of an inconvenience. Amy and Arielle are amazing. They have been working with us on our cats. They made us feel at home ironically my cat is from Turkey. My cat was 3 pounds and a handful. They however handled him so gently and made him feel safe. Even with my other cat who is a tad moody. They handled her like a champ. Everyone there has a personality and that's amazing to see. Our family is first time puppy owners and have learned so much this past year from the wonderful doctors and assistants at PRAH. They've been so kind and helpful as we learn his physical needs (puppies can have allergies!) and developmental needs (our shy guy is gaining confidence each month). Staff seemed less than truly caring. On my first visit, a woman came in and began attending to my pets. Didn't introduce herself, her role or what she was doing. Very clinical type of first visit. The staff is friendly and knowledgable but this place is so outrageously expensive I've stopped taking my dog there.Take flea and tic meds for example, they charge almost 100% more than you reputable online retailers.I got a quote on having my dogs teeth cleaned at between $800-1300.  To put it in perspective, the last time I got this done it cost $600 and that included 2 extractions.For a place that should be concerned with animal welfare they've taken every opportunity to overcharge pet owners. In my opinion, this is the best veterinary clinic in the state. I have brought my dog here for about a year and a half now and continue to be impressed by the level of professional care and compassion that my dog receives from the Veterinarian's, nurse's and receptionist's. I now live in Newport and continue to bring my dog here for treatment, they're that good and they're very good at fitting an animal in if they need to be seen. If you're looking for a new Veterinarian or even if you're not, I highly recommend them and you'll see the difference between Providence River Animal Hospital and all the others. Read Less

They provide the expected level of service for a veterinarian but are overpriced and very difficult to work with when trying to use an online pharmacy. They ran through a whole sales pitch when I told them I wanted a written prescription then told me I was making a mistake by using an online pharmacy. Dr. Dahill and the entire staff at Providence River Animal Hospital are second to none. I've taken my boxer, Ella, to PRAH since moving to Providence in 2009. The care they've provided though the years has been consistently compassionate and equally knowledgeable. Dr Dahill and Linden helped identify a cancerous mass on my sweet girl and recommend the best course of action, through referral to veterinary oncologists in the area. I firmly believe they gave Ella two years (of 9) which we otherwise may not have shared. When faced with the inevitable of having to let my girl go three weeks back, I was so grateful to have had the opportunity to make this decision in the presence and under the guidance of Dr Dahill. She and the entire staff expressed genuine empathy and demonstrated true patience, while clearly outlining options and guiding me to the most merciful course of action. While I never wished to face that day, I'm infinitely grateful to have been in the comfort of PRAH. We just moved to PVD from the Bay Area five days ago and yesterday noticed our 20 month old Lab was continuing to have trouble with one ear. Luckily Blythe from Ruffin' Wranglers had referred us to PRAH. PRAH was able to schedule a same day appointment for a new patient with a relief vet who was covering. The clinic is appealing and very clean. Staff were very kind and caring. Our vet tech Audrey was especially sweet to our girl during the exam. The vet was thoughtful and thorough. Staff even took special care to come up with treatment options for our dog's ear that didn't include a medication ingredient to which I am allergic. (Anything that goes in or on our dog's head ends up on me.) We had a great experience and will continue to take our dog to PRAH. Read Less

Everyone at PRAH is friendly, professional and clearly loves animals. The facility is clean and welcoming and the service level is impeccable. As hard as it is to diagnose issues with animals, PRAH does so with deliberate caution and care for the pet and the owner. They often go above and beyond. We've been going to Providence River for seven years and they are the best veterinarian's office we've ever gone to. When we moved to Providence we read in a local magazine that they were rated the best vet in the city which is why we went to them to begin with. Even when we moved to Boston for two years we still kept coming down to Providence just for them. They took amazing care of our older dog for five years before he passed away and we credit his excellent health later in life to the care we received from them. They also take care of our cat but she doesn't go as often as our dog. We got a new puppy (Monarch) in early 2015 and went there 10+ times for all of his shots and typical puppy ailments. They take amazing care of our animals, and they are all so nice there. If you're looking for a new vet, you can't go wrong here. Read Less

Our dog Gansett is more or less feral when it's not my wife and I. The professionals at Providence River Animal Hospital go above and beyond calling for him. He is mean and bitey. But they have figured out how to handle him and already have a nice thing to say about his visit even though we know he's a jerk. Just took my cat to Providence River Animal Hospital after being an unhappy patient at City Kitty. Loved the new experience. The Vet tech and Vet were both kind respectful and patient. The vet (Corinna Barry) was great. she explained everything and did not try pressure me into any extra vaccinations or tests. I won't bring my dog to anyone else in Providence. It's clear that being a vet is Dr. Jane Linden vocation. Unlike other Providence vets I've tried, Dr. Linden focuses on the pet and takes a little time to get to know them before examining them. Her recommendations are always reasonable. A different vet that suggested that I remove my 15 year old cat's nails due to a recurrent nail infection that didn't seem to bother the cat. Dr. Linden's approach is that we keep an eye on it and give him antibiotics as needed. Clearly a kinder approach for both my cat and my wallet! The friendly, knowledgable staff manage appointments so that you can get one quickly and there is never a crowded waiting room. I LOVE THIS VET. I'm moving and this is one of the local ""resources"" that I am most anxious about replacing. Read Less
