I have been bringing my male dog here for 7 years now and they have always been awesome with him. I adopted a female companion for him almost 2 years ago now and also bring her there. The place has been recently renovated and is very clean / well laid out. They even have a second door right into an exam room (skipping the lobby) for aggressive / less social dogs.I have always found the vets here to be very caring with both pups. My only wish would be that it could be less expensive. I know, most vets are now a days and I really just don't feel comfortable bringing my senior dogs to the vet clinics where the vets see 100 dogs a day for literally 5 minutes. Luckily, they accept the Care Credit Card - so I can have my pets treated without worrying about having cash in hand and will usually take advantage of 0% or other low interest finance specials through the card. All around - I would recommend this vet to anyone looking for thorough care for their dog, cat, or other pets! Read Less

Horrible experience. I called at 1pm in the afternoon and they gave me an appointment for 4:30. Knowing my dogs symptoms; vomiting, diarrhea, bloody stool, hadn't eaten in 2 days and lethargic. Since she was responsive and drinking water, I waited till 4:30. When I got to Riverside Animal Hospital within 30 seconds they sent us away, they were open till 6 and refused to do anything. I had a stool sample with me and they wouldn't even test it. They wanted me to take her to an ER and they just sent me out the door on my way, on my own, no recommendation for an ER, nothing. I have to say I will never never never go back there again. I think if you r situation is normal you will get good service. But if they have to go the extra mile as in my situation (I was relying on them to treat my dog) you won't get it if it is close to closing time. A vet that does not do overnight service, really?? In response to the owner comments, your staff did NOT give any ER referrals I had to call another Vet to get local ER referrals. Read Less

I don't even know where to begin in expressing my appreciation for the whole team here. My boy is a Pitbull/Mastiff & a BIG boy who HAD a BAD habbit of jumping up on people in happiness when he met them. Unfortunately his vets forehead and his block head met during a visit and she ended up with a bleeding gash over her eye. She could have ended the appointment right then or sent someone else in but she didnt. She steped out of the room to tend to her wound and came right BACK in to continue our visit like nothing happened. We were there because my boy had a growth on his back paw that my whole family was concerned about. Only a tiny sample was successfully gathered for a biopsy. His vet told me right out that she wasnt comfortable with the amount she got and wasnt going to send it out to the lab, have us spend all that money to only have us have to redo it because there wasnt enough. She did tell me that she believed the growth would dry up and eventually fall off within 3 months and that if it didnt, we could opt to have it removed. That day I was only charged for the medication that they gave us to keep him calm and off his foot for a while. THATS IT! I was expecting close to a $100.00 visit, but it ended up being 1/3 of it! Because we pay cash out of pocket they ALWAYS give me a detailed breakdown of cost for his next visit. Most times it ends up even less then what I was prepared for. The staff is SOOO WONDERFUL with my BIG (close to 100lb) 1yo baby its absolutely impressive and ALWAYS make my heart smile. Because hes still a bit excitable (just turned 1) ill peek through the glass door to see if the waiting room is empty. The person at the desk will either wave me in if the cost is clear or, they will guide us directly into a room RIGHT AWAY! Often I'll hear staff members say "ENZO's HERE!" from behind the doors and shortly after they will come say "Hi" to my boy because they're always curious on HOW BIG is is now.. After he was neutered they called me later that day to check on him and to see how he was doing. They also called us about the growth on his foot around the 3 month mark to check on him and see how he was doing. Just as the vet said, it had slowly shrivelled down to almost nothing and was about to fall off. I worked customer service for 32 years, so when I receive service that speakes volumes for itself, the staff, and its clients in such a natural and caring way I appreciate it more then THEY could even imagine. Enzo & my whole family absolutely recommend Riverside Animal Hospital to all fur mommies, daddy's, brothers, sisters, aunts & uncles!!! Read Less

The staff here is amazing! They are kind, compassionate, and caring. Not only to my pets but also to my family. It was a hectic day for me with my furbabies and human babies, the staff helped me getting the stroller inside, then gave my older child a coloring book and crayons (even busted out stickers). All so I could take the time to be thorough with the Dr about my pets health. When I explained I just don't have the money to do all the fluff they were very accommodating, and helpful in prioritizing what was most important. Thank you all!! Read Less

Previously, I had come to Riverside Animal Hospital with my first cat, Lizzie, for her vaccinations and yearly check-up. Dr. Wright and the vet techs were so professional and friendly! I felt very well taken care of, so I was not at all concerned about bringing my new kitten, Boo, to see them. Unfortunately, however, Dr. Wright was not in and I was seen by Dr. Portnoy, the chief of staff, who immediately began the appointment in a manner that was neither professional, nor compassionate. She grabbed my kitten by the face and said, does this cat look normal to you? I was taken aback and thought maybe she was joking so I laughed and said, yeah he has a little stink eye and we thought it was cute so- but she interrupted me sternly and repeated her question until finally I was actually forced to answer, I guess no..? Without doing any tests or even looking in my cats eyes, she made the diagnosis that he probably had a tumor which was causing all of these symptoms. Then, Dr. Portnoy went on to compare my kitten to a lemon and essentially berated the shelter for adopting him out and demeaned me for adopting him. She qualified this by saying, I guess there are some people out there who like to adopt those dogs with three legs or cats with one eye She spoke with a condescending tone as if anyone who adopts a less-than-show-worthy pet is a moron. Finally, when I said (through tears, at this point) that I was keeping him and could she just prescribe me the antibiotics because he was clearly in a state of discomfort, she told me to go back to the shelter if I wanted medicine. To add insult to injury, I then had to pay $41 for this office visit!! If you dont mind the tells-it-like-it-is personality than perhaps this is the vet for you. Always fishing for a "diagnosis".. Crissy & Nicole always wonderful. However, one of their front desk coworkers should learn some etiquette. As I made the trip in after missing a call with my dogs blood results, this person proceeds to inform me its very busy (3 rooms with 2 occupied), and the " doctor" may not have time to sit and discuss results. I simply said I would wait (considering I had just missed a call, and it is my dogs BLOOD WORK RESULTS). She continues to state that I may need to wait until they close at 6:00p.m. I left frustrated and stunned with this rude person (who clearly couldnt care less as she laughs). Low and behold, the "doctor" miraculously found 2 whole minutes to call me. Informing her (after she takes 1 minute to tell me results were fine!), I informed her of her rude employee. Didn't phase her in the least. I wonder the reason of her not taking the 2 minutes while I was there, and willing to wait, but opts to call me. What did we need to have a "sit down" over? Never again. I'm confident they couldnt care less, as its been proven previously. Read Less

My dog was being irritated by a sebaceous cyst and needed to see a vet. We moved to Barrington last year and adopted the dog 4 months ago. Our first vet experience in the area had not gone well and we decided to look for another facility. From the moment we drove up to the Riverside Animal Hospital, we knew that this was going to be a friendly experience. The property is set back from the main road and the building is brightly painted and quite inviting. When we walked into the lobby, the front desk attendant immediately came around, crouched down and greeting Tove. She was genuinely interested in her well-being. After setting up the examining room adjacent to the reception, She took down all the pertinent information about Tove and her condition. Less than 1 minute after being escorted into the examining room, Dr Wright entered and also immediately greeted Tove with kindness and affection. She asked about what I perceived to be her condition, kindly checked he vitals and then proceeded to examine the area on her hip that was of concern. Dr. Wright validated it was a cyst and asked if she could take Tove to another room where they would shave and treat the affected spot. When she returned, she confirmed that the cyst was empty but that I should keep watch to ensure it didn't reoccur. Throughout the process she was upbeat, informative and very attentive to my Dog's presence. This is our new veterinary hospital and we couldn't be happier!Read Less

Dr. Anna Portnoy is my go to doc, I don't know much about the other doctor but when I get a good one I tend to stay with the same person. Everybody there are really friendly. The facility is clean and the best part is that they have one room with a door that goes outside which for me since my dog is not a fan (tolerant) of other animals I go through that door. We adopted 2 cats after our cat and dog passed away a year apart from each other.  It wasn't something we planned but they were out in the cold and being neglected - it was also a bad winter.  This was the vet the previous owner took them to, and even though it was 20-30 min away for us we kept going there figuring that would be best for the cats.  Right off I realized they were higher priced than others we have gone to and don't do any complimentary services, such as nail trimming.  We found out yesterday that one has hyperthyroid and needs meds.  We called ahead of time and asked about a human grade version, because we have the Walgreens Rx plan and it saves a ton of money on pet meds.  They said there wasn't a human grade.  $67 later, I learn that there is a human grade, it would have been $6 and even the same med is online for $27.  I called, they apologized - but that doesn't cut it with me, $40 more than online for the exact same thing and $61 more than a generic version for anyone is a lot.the people are nice, the facility is clean and the appointments are ontime.  Those are the pluses, but I feel, like my past vets, if you can save some $ for your clients then do so.  It just seems like the right thing to do. And I'm angry. Loosing a "lifetime of our pets" client to nickel and dime folks is a shame.I already set up a new vet closer to home and I will be going there with my "kids" from now on. Read Less

My own vet doesn't do boarding so I had to find a local place that does. Since Riverside Animal Hospital boarded, I decided to give them a try. I was going away for about 5 days and was nervous about leaving my dog there, but had no reason to doubt that they would take good care of him. I did the 'meet and greet', got him his shots and left him....  A few days into my trip, I got a call from them saying that my dog was having diarrhea issues and they were going to give him meds and probiotics, I had to say okay because I'm away from home and what was I going to do... My dog had never had these issues before, I assumed he was nervous about being away from me... So, I pick him up and they tell me the bill is going to be about $150.00 MORE than it was supposed to be because of these 'meds'... then, they also proceed to tell me that my dog has a heart condition that should be addressed and gives me this 'estimate' bill for what it would cost.... I already have a vet that he goes to, and they NEVER mentioned this heart condition... why were they 'checking' for a heart condition, anyway? He was supposed to be in boarding only!...  So, my dog has severe diarrhea for days and days and is pooping all over my house when he gets home, probably because of the meds they gave him... Will NEVER bring my dog there again.... think twice before bringing your pet there... Read Less

As the Animal Control Officer in the east bay area, I have been working closely with the doctors and Vet Techs at Riverside Animal Hospital. I have been very pleased with our working relationship. All of them have welcomed me and the animals I have brought to them which they attend to with wonderful care and compassion. I also bring my own animals to them for treatment and again feel they receive excellent care. We recently had one of my cats become very sick. Dr. Harris, Dr Portnoy, Krista and the staff were so compassionate towards my family and I.I thank them all for their care and compassion and look forward to our continued working and family pet relationship. This is a small veterinarian's office, so the word "hospital" in the name is a misnomer.  My cat got good enough treatment here.  I can't be enthusiastic, however, because their fees are over the top.  Vets used to be affordable, but now I pay more to the vet than I pay to my own doctor.Unfortunately, my darling cat had to be put to sleep (that 10-minute procedure cost $82.50 all by itself).  Now I plan to go pet-less just so I can avoid being ripped off by vets.

Read Less

From the moment we drove up to the Riverside Animal Hospital, we knew that this was going to be a friendly experience. Read Less

Having owned many pets over the years I have been to various veterinarian clinics in the area. This facility is 5 star. The veterinarian is very knowledgeable and compassionate. The staff is very professional and caring. They go the extra mile for their clients. The staff like what they do and it shows. The facilities are clean, well maintained, making for a positive feeling as soon as you walk through the door. I feel very comfortable recommending this clinic to any pet owner.Read Less

They're awesome - all of them - super awesome! Have two dogs that go here for annual physicals, monthly nail trims and occasional boarding. The staff could not be nicer. The cost is inline with other vet offices and they are super knowledgeable about all things pets. As a bonus, not only do they love animals, they are pretty swell with us humans too. Read Less

Without mentioning any names. I have a beagle dog and for 5 years he has been suffering from massive weight gain and lack of energy. I went to my old vet many many times for them to only tell me. I was over feeding him. I knew I wasn't over feeding him. finally at the advice from a friend, he told me to go to Riverside Animal Hospital. I went yesterday for the first time. the whole staff and the doctors was so friendly and professional. not only that, after one visit, I found out my dog has a low thyroid count. this explained his weight gain and him being so lethargic and lack of energy. what my old Vet couldn't do in five years, Riverside Animal Hospital figured it out in one visit. I want to say thank you again to everyone at Riverside Animal Hospital. you guys were awesome! Read Less

I took my Chinchilla there yesterday and was very happy with the service, attention to detail and knowledge. The vet was extremely friendly and explained everything in detail to me. Good place to bring exotic pets, which is hard to find qualified vets that take animals beyond dogs and cats. My cats will now be going here as well.
