After doing hours of research for the best vet in the area, I found Sakonnet and we are so glad we found them! We have seen most of the DVMs in the facility and all of them know our cat by name by memory. That's how much care is given to our cat every time we walk into the door. Our cat is known to be a pain when she goes to the vet but all of the staff treat her with compassion and care. I would highly recommend them! Read Less

I wish I could give 0 stars. I just moved to the area and made our first appointment for our pet in the new town. The vet was very rude and argumentative and spoke down to me. Also challenged me telling me I was wrong about a medication my pet received from his previous vet and while sitting there I googled it and proved her wrong which felt good because her bed side demeanor was less then professional and frankly made me uncomfortable . I know accidents happen from time to time but her attitude in addition to missing a vein several times when drawing blood was a perfect storm for me to say in 30 years of owning dogs it was hands down the worst experience I have ever had. Can't wait to go somewhere else! You should too! Read Less

I had to put my cat Madison down who was 19 years old. My brother-in-law recommended Dr. Elyse Olechnowicz. She was so caring and helped us through this horrible ordeal. My cat had a huge mass in her abdomen. It was cancer. She recommended having an ultrasound. She said it was the most accurate and cost effective way of finding out what was wrong. Her assistant was wonderful. He massaged Madison's head to relax her during the check up. I can't thank them enough. They explained what was going to happen when they put her to sleep. I will be taking Madison's sister Jasmine to her from now on. Thank you all. Read Less

DO NOT step foot in Sakonnet Vet.  Worst experience of my life.  Dog was not diagnosed correctly- overcharged us and even charged us for wrong things. When asking them about it the "chief of staff" barked back very rudely and defensively.  Would not change invoice when it was clearly wrong and not the medication received! Not to mention had to go back for a quick check in two weeks and was charged again for an office visit $48 and they were 40 min late for appointment.  Not fun! Extremely POOR customer service from Dr. O. If the front office staff's dispositions could rub off on the Doctor it might make it a little bit better place! Would love to support local but this change over there has been the worst mistake ever! I don't deal well with rude and disrespectful especially when you are giving them service! Read Less

12/29/2016 I have been taking my animals to this vet for the last 30 years and was always more than satisfied with the care our animals received. We took our dog Irish to this facility many times over the past year for a skin rash, after numerous visits and much money we finally got a referral and took Irish to Tuft's animal hospital where he was treated for an environmental allergy and did very well. December 18th 2016 he began vomiting and having frequent loose stools, we took him to the ER in Swansea where he had some x rays and received fluids along with medication to help with his GI issues. This did not resolve the problem and he was declining to where he could only tolerate a little fluid and no food. We took him to Sakonnet the next day and saw Dr. Balinsky who was also at a loss and recommended an abdominal ultrasound. We did agree to this and it was performed on the following day. At the appointment to get the results we met with Dr. Brown, it was recommended that we have a colonoscopy performed since the ultrasound had shown some thickening to his intestines. This sounded a little drastic especially since we were told we might or might not be able to get a biopsy result depending on how much of a sample they could get. Unfortunately our Irish had been having difficulty walking since he had arthritis which we also tried everything to help him including bi weekly injections. He was walking around very sad looking though he was never an animal that cried or gave any sign he was in pain except for wincing when the vet pushed on his abdomen. We decided at this point we had done all we could for him and that keeping him alive was our being selfish and not what was best for him in the condition he was in. We related our wishes to Dr. Brown, said our good byes to Irish, paid the money we owed for his testing and to have him cremated and his remains returned to us. Later that day after many tears and wondering if weRead Less

We came to Sakonnet Veterinarian after our regular vet became ill and his practice was closed. I called Sakonnet for a visit for my dog due to an eye issue. We were given an appointment with Dr. Brown. At our appointment the next day, Dr. Brown prescribed our dog some eye drops and set up a follow up visit for the next week. However, while there we found a lump on our dogs chest. The next week at our appointment, Dr. Brown did a biopsy and called us two days later to tell us our beloved dog had lymphoma. She took the time to help us understand what was going on and what our next actions should be. Within the next few weeks Dr. Brown help facilitate appointments with specialists and follow up to his diagnosis. She checked in with us routinely to check on his progress. She went above and beyond what I would think anyone would do. I am so thankful for her help during this difficult time.Given that we did not know Sakonnet and they did not know us, this was an extreme set of circumstances. We felt like we had been a patient with Dr. Brown since we adopted our dog. She showed so much compassion to not only our dog but my family as well.  I would refer Dr. Brown and her staff to anyone. Your pets would be lucky to have Dr. Brown as their vet. Read Less

I'm not sure how a group of such highly educated people could make so many mistakes... I am a nurse and I understand a variety of medical conditions, however I am not a vet. But I do comprehend quality of care.1) if your animal is very ill they cannot accommodate weekend stays2) my cat had a broken leg that Dr Picard recommended I amputate! To the tune of 3-5k!!! Another vet fixed it with no problem for 1500$. No cast, no visible pins, and a minimal manageable incision. The cat is fine, no pain, no limp enjoying life. 3) Dr. Picard suggested my stressed out scared Weimaraner had high blood pressure after trying to evaluate it by inflating the cuff on his nub of a tail... 4) tried to purchase dog food a special kidney blend prescribed by another vet, the woman at the desk wouldn't even acknowledged me. Once she did she had me call and ask my other to fax the prescription and then waited for it to be sent. It was 5pm and I had such a long day. It's dog food for crying out loud... 5) spent over 2k on a cat after they changed his diet to high protein. He almost died due to a urinary stone blocking his urethra. They catheterized him and had me take him home due to the fact they have no animal care on the weekends (the other option was to take him to a care facility which is $$$$$). Due to the catheter they inserted he lost all tone of his bladder and had no control. He urinated all over and this initiated another stay for a week with more meds to try and initiate tone and control. This can happen from improper removal of a catheter.I would never take another pet to this location. I also never take the time to write such a lengthy or negative review but I love my pets. If I had gone with their suggestions I would have a three legged cat, another without control of his bladder, and a dog on all kinds of blood pressure meds that he doesn't need. Please please think twice about going here or at least get a second opinion. It's not even worth buying dog food from this office. Thanks for reading :-) Read Less

My puppy Officer Jenny has been to Sakonnet several times now, and it has always been a great experience.  I like to go back a few times before I make my review, and now that I've met several of the doctors here I'm happy to say that I love this practice. She had her very first check-up and shots with Dr. Reinhardt, who also gave us a lot of advice for taking care of our new puppy.  It was a nice, thorough exam, and not rushed at all, which gave me some peace of mind since we don't know much about Jenny's background. Then she came back for her booster shots, and the staff made it a very nice easy in-and-out procedure that I didn't have to wait long at all for! She also got a microchip and we got nice aftercare instructions.Jenny picked up a UTI, and Dr. Brown was very helpful in getting us in right away and sending us home with antibiotics so we could get her feeling better! Dr. Brown has a really lovely "bedside manner", one of the nicest vets I have met -- to people as well as their pets.My puppy was spayed by Dr. Hopkins on Monday. The entire experience was handled very well and professionally by everyone involved, from the time I got a quote on the surgery last month to when I picked her up. I really appreciated how every staff member that I interacted with reassured me that she was going to be fine, and made sure that I knew the pre- and post-op instructions. Dr. Hopkins calling me personally after the surgery with an update was a very nice touch. Thank you, Sakonnet! Read Less

It is with both personal and professional disappointment that I write this letter. I have been a client at Sakonnet Veterinary hospital on and off for 30 years and have been pleased with the care my animals and myself have received.  Pleased that is until Craig Hopkins joined the staff.  I took my 6 month old german shepherd puppy  to be spayed with the laser procedure to minimize her discomfort and recovery time.  Imagine my surprise when I received a call advising there was a small complication and my puppy needed a few staples.  A few staples was actually 22 (I'm not highly educated like Craig Hopkins, but 22 seems more than a few) considering no staples were required with the laser procedure.  When I called and asked to speak to Hopkins, he was quick to tell me that he didn't have to call at all and it was a courtesy. A courtes ?  Thousands and thousands of dollars spent at this practice and I was lucky to receive a courtesy call?   My relationship was irreparably damaged that day and I'm no longer a client at Sakonnet.  Dr. Rix called weeks later to advise me that Hopkins would no longer perform surgery on my animals and neither would Dr.Picard.  I've never even had an appointment with Picard! So if my animal was sick or injured and required a surgical procedure, they won't be attended to at Sakonnet ?  How is this ethical?  Shouldn't Dr. Rix have asked for my side of the story?  I was dismissed without  so much as a conversation.  It seems that as prices go up, quality of service and care goes down.   I'm just a regular working stiff with not a lot of money, but a lot of love for my animals .   As a loving, dedicated pet owner, I deserve the same respect afforded to others Hopkins deems worthy.  I'm not the only client who's animals Hopkins refuses to treat (ask a few questions, do a little digging if you're skeptical).  I'm also not the only client that finds him to be an arrogant, pompous man that prioritizes people by their social class, a perfect trait for a caregiver.   As far as Dr. Picard goes, how can you refuse to treat animals you've never treated?  The vets at Sakonnet should worship those girls at the front desk.  They run interference, calm upset clients and diffuse situations which they have no part in.  They are the reason people return.  People with the caring, empathy and personality traits of Hopkins should be working somewhere with minimal human interaction like a toll booth, movie ticket sales or maybe valet at Twin Rivers (he'd only park the Porsches and Mercedes).   Please don't read this as sour grapes, but rather as a warning that you and your beloved pet are only as valuable as Craig Hopkins opinion.Long Time ClientPaul Spooner Read Less

This is a very nice veternary hospital, although I do not have a lot to compare it to because it is my first one I like it a lot. My first visit here when I got my puppy was very pleasant. The employees were all extremely kind and when Milo got his shots he didn't even notice! They also gave me a start up packet with a bunch of reading materials and choices for shots and medications as well as basic training and tips. The second time I came was also a very pleasant experience, my puppy did not yelp or anything that I heard even though they took him out back this time. The third time my boyfriend came here and the woman handling him was extremely rough with him to the point where I am hesistant to go back. Even though she did have to scrape his head for mites because of demodex my concern was really how she handled him when giving his shots. The needle ended up going through his skin and out the other side of his skin ( when it was pinched and held outward, not through his leg or anything) and he yelped three times out of pain during two shots. I guess we will see how this next appointment goes. Read Less

Brought our Goldendoodle, Napa, for his first vet appointment today. We waited in the room for 15 or 20 minutes, which is only noteworthy if you're in a hurry, which we weren't.Waiting room was really clean (unusual for a vet, in my experience) and big (also unusual). Our vet was really nice and took a lot of time to go over what Napa would need for shots and everything else to expect from a puppy in the upcoming months.Unlike other vets I've been to (even Warren Animal Hospital), we weren't pressured to spend as much money as possible. They asked a lot of questions to determine what he'd need and in what time, rather than just going for the gold. Even with heartworm and flea/tick medication, we were given several options and brands depending on our budget (puppy gets the best, of course!).We left feeling like we really had an appointment. It wasn't any kind of in/out rush job like I've experienced other places. It was as thorough as seeing your own doctor. We were also shocked to see how cheap the bill was. Considering how nice the building is and the quality of the staff and our vet, I thought it'd be a lot more. Oh, and we can view all of Napa's medical records / history online through their website. How awesome is that? Read Less

Read Less

reviews. I've been coming to Sakonnet Vets for over 20 years. I had two large Golden Retrievers when we first started coming and now have a senior Bischon Frissee as well as a new Golden puppy. I have always found the staff and vets more than caring, knowledgable, and professional. At one time I tried other Vets inProvidence and they just did not meet my high standards for my pets, so I'm happy to travel the distance to Tiverton. I highly recommend them, R.Levin, East Side Prov RI Read Less

Read Less
