On 7/11/2011 my Dogue de Bordeaux of 7 years suffered from a fatal case of Pyometra and unfortunately had to be euthanized. The staff at South County Veterinary Hospital handled her Euthanization in such an inhumane, disrespectful, despicable, unprofessional and horrific manner it has taken me over a week to overcome the shock and awe to begin mourning my loyal companion. During the Euthanization the Doctor preforming the procedure stuck my animal over 4 times with the barbiturate, each time injecting a little bit more. The first insertion in her Right hind leg delivered about 10% of the Barbiturate. After the second insertion in her front right leg, the doctor left the room to get a "smaller needle", by her return, over 3 minutes later my dog's breathing had significantly slowed, her tongue had fallen completely out of her mouth and Doctor upon returning, asked if I could move my animal on her right side, so she could "TRY" her left hind leg, as she was "having Trouble finding a vein". This is a 125lbs Mastiff, I could physically see her vein. After changing the needle to a "smaller" needle and injecting about another 20% of the Barbiturate, she apologized and asked if I would mind if she could "TRY" her left front leg. She than proceeds to SHAVE my dogs front left leg, (please keep in mind my poor animal has already had about 50% of this Barbiturate in her body, her tongue is hanging completely out of her mouth and she is near death) and finally she injects the remaining 50% of the Barbiturate. During the time of shaving and prior to the final injection her assistant's cell phone begins to ring extremely loud, after waiting a few moments for her to silent the ring, I actually have to blurt out the words "Are you kidding me" for her to finally decide to silence the ring. To add to the horror and torment we decided to have her cremated, and the South County Veterinary Hospital staff, sent her to THE WRONG CREMATORY. Prior to the euthinization we had made arrangements with the Veterinary staff to send her to a family friend, the owner of "Final Gift" located 30 minutes from the Veterinary Hospital. Instead they send her 2 hours away to a crematory in ANOTHER STATE (CT.) This has been the most horrifying and inhumane experience I have ever witnessed. My final memories of my amazing and beloved family member of 7 years is her tongue hanging out of her mouth, while she suffered from a tortureous, inhumane and horrific death. This is completely unacceptable and CAN NOT go unpunished. The entire staff needs be held responsible and accountable for pure torture, and inhumanity. I can not find strong enough words to express my disgust and pain. Read Less
