Our cat Leia was having some issues one morning, so I looked to find a vet open on Sunday. I ended up taking her here, and it was great (except, ya know, for the whole sick cat thing...). The staff is friendly, and the waiting rooms and examining rooms were very clean. The office seems to be split in two, with one side for cats, one side for dogs (I don't know what happens if you sprain your hamster). I was charged $125 for an emergency visit, and various labs and such were about $150/ea. We have a follow-up on the 19th, so I'll be able to add more details then. Read Less

Ok they do a good job taking care of my dogs. My pitbull just had knee surgery and is recovering very well. My only complaint is I was told that 80% had to be paid before they'd do the surgery. That's fine, but being told 80% was due up front lead me to believe that the remaining 20% I'd be billed for , but 24 hours later when I picked my dog up I was informed that the remaining 20% was due. Luckily I had the available fund's with a credit card, if not would I not be allowed to take my dog home? If 80% is due up front and the remaining 20% is due the next day then just tell me to pay the full bill up front. Read Less

Today, I asked for all my pets records.  I will not be returning. This weekend, I needed boarding for my dog.  I called on Sunday to make arrangements to have my dog boarded from that Wednesday to Sunday.  They told me that he needed to seen prior to update his vaccinations.  I took the first available appointment, which was Tuesday.  I asked if my dog was good to board on Wednesday then and the person on the phone said "Yes". Today, I was told that pre-boarding appointments must be booked 5 days before boarding and they cancelled my boarding reservation leaving me without care for my dog during my 5 day trip and 24 hours to find it. When I asked them why they would schedule a pre-boarding appointment for the day before, they blamed me for making the appointment.  The vet stared at me offering no help or apology.  No suggestions of places I could call or services in the area.   I wouldn't have made the appointment if they hadn't said my dog was set to board. I have a day to find a dog sitter or cancel my trip. Thanks. Read Less

We’re new to the area so we were looking for a great place for our dog. We made an appt online and when we showed, the receptionist went away for 20 min all confused and then told us we would have to wait another 20-30 min w/ no explanation as to why even though she said we were confirmed in the computer. We were put into a room 20 min later, answered questions from the receptionist and then presumed to sit in the room for 45 min where we debated leaving until the doctor came in at 9pm(when they close). The doctor and vet technician were all over the place and it was evident they hadn’t even looked at his info before consulting with us. We were there for a check-up, vaccination and to receive tick meds and they made it all about my dog throwing up once because the receptionist had asked but we showed no concern about it. We were definitely put as last priority because when we finished there was no one left and no vehicles in the parking lot. Thought the prices were fairly high. Fur parents will understand we wanted the BEST care for our little love and he did not get it. Not one to write bad reviews but we thought this was pretty bad, we won’t be returning nor will we be recommending this vet. Read Less

We have unfortunately had two recent experiences at Warwick Animal Hospital and everyone there was as kind as we needed. Last month our cat died suddenly on a weekend evening and we called to see what to do with her body. They were so kind and thoughtful at the animal hospital, refusing to charge us when we brought her in. Then today I brought my 16 year old dog, knowing what the likely result would be. She hadn't eaten in three days and could no longer walk up the stairs. The vet and nurses were so compassionate as we put her down. Though it was a difficult time as I watched her go, it was clearly quick and painless for my dog and they were reassuring about the decision. I hope that the next time we go is under better circumstances, but I would trust them with making end of life care for any pet I have in the future. Read Less

Will never go back.  Brought our 10yr old cat in because his eye was really red and swollen, and he wasn't eating.  He looked terrible. They did look at it  with the blue light to make sure there wasn't a scratch or anything foreign. They thought it may be a nerve issue which was causing one of his eyelids to stay over his eye.and they lightly hydrated him. They gave us eye drops (steroid) and said to use them for 7-10 days and that they weren't sure if it would work.  $250.00Well, the eye drops didn't work and he got worse.  He lost 2lbs in the 2 weeks using the eye drops, and his eye became even more swollen.  We took him to another emergency vet and he had iv's to hydrate him and SURGERY for his eye, to the tune of $1000.00, to find out it was an infection that antibiotics may have prevented.  We were also instructed to throw out the eye drops that we were given from WAH because they could cause anaphylaxis in cats.  Great!  So now our poor cat has to be force fed high calorie food (expensive) to build his weight back up, eye drops 3x a day AND two antiobiotics 3x day to make up for what was not addressed from WAH.  So ANGRY and disappointed. Will NEVER recommend WAH. Read Less

The day after I adopted my 8 week old kitten, I noticed he was not eating, drinking, or going to the bathroom.  And he had some anal prolapse.  It was a Sunday and my only options were emergency care.  After going to Petsmart and Banfield was no help, one of the Petsmart employees suggested Warwick Animal Hospital.  I called them and they told me to come as soon as I could.I got there and right away my kitten was seen.  Poor thing was petrified.  8 weeks old and needing an enema.  We got him tested, de-wormed, and made sure other then the lack of food and water, he was in good health.Even though it spent way more than I thought I was, I am happy I went.  The food and supplements they provided me helped get the little guy back up and running.  They literally had to scare the crap out of him.He is a crazy and wild rambunctious little kitten running all over the place.  He fits right in with my 1 year old cat.  He is extremely playful and completely different from the day I got him.The vet and vet techs were great, compassionate, and attentive.  They greeted me with a smile and left me feeling happy. We will be back for check-ups and I know where to go if something ever happens again.Thank you for bringing FuzzButt McGee back to himself. Do yourself and your cat a favor and do not go to WAH. My cat has severe dandruff I was concerned that he may have mites or allergies. I asked the vet, Dr. Geoffrey Kardon to check his fur and he acted as if I had asked him to do a backflip for me. He sighed and came back in an even worse mood and said "i don't know what to tell you I looked quick but I didn't see anything" then I asked him to check my cats ears because those have also been bothering him and he is losing fur from scratching. The vet said "to tell you the truth I don't trust him enough to look at his ears" I would just like to mention that my cat is not a lion or a tiger and is in no way vicious. I have taken him to other vets and they have checked his ears without a problem. He walks on a leash and though my cat may have been thumping his tail he did not in anyway show signs of a man eating beast. I said "can you please just check them?" And by some miracle of God the doctor actually checked his ears. He said, "it may be mites" and I said "well... Is it mites?" And he said "it's hard to tell" I am in awe that I payed $107 dollars to beg a veterinarian to provide the care that I had scheduled for just to say "hard to tell". In total we were only in his office for 20 minutes. He offered to give my cat anti-itching pills meant for dogs. And I said that I wanted to get to the root of what was causing his dandruff and hair loss rather than giving him pills to stop itching. The doctor never tested him for mites or allergies and he never came to a conclusion. A complete waste of time. I wish I had taken the prior reviews more seriously. Read Less

Upon bringing my boyfriend's two dogs here for nail clipping, we overheard another customer complaining that her dog was bleeding after getting their nails clipped. This should've been our first hint. Unfortunately, since this is their usual vet, we decided to go on anyways. Needless to say both our dogs ended up bleeding profusely and the vet tech didn't seem bothered, as if this is normal. Afterwards I did some research and found out that most groomers carry a specific powder that stops the bleeding. It's surprising a vet of all places would not check the nails before bringing them back to the lobby & that the powder wasn't used on the second dog (who bled also) after bringing the first dog out  (which we mentioned right after when we noticed). We plan to go elsewhere from here on in.  Be warned. Read Less

Over the past many years, I have turned to Warwick Animal Hospital for emergency care for very ill cats. My cats always seem to need care at night and on Sundays, so even though they are not my usual vet, I have sought their help. The first time I found a small kitten hanging by his neck in a bush. He had expended all his energy and I (and the vet we saw there) didn't think he'd make it. The doctor said that I could leave him there overnight, but he didn't think it would help, and be very expensive. Instead, he taught me how to give him fluids by injection. Against all odds the little guy survived. Two times I have had to bring cats who were dying there so their suffering could be stopped. On all three of the above mentioned occasions we were treated with tremendous respect and compassion by all of the employees. The care was not cheap, but I am always shocked by the cost of vet services. I think since most of us have health insurance and only have to pay co-pays and deductibles, we aren't really aware just how much medical care of every kind costs. I did not find the fees at Warwick Animal Hospital to be excessive compared with other vets. Today, a very special little cat that has been my companion for 17 years made it known it was time for her to go. She had breast cancer and I knew it was just a matter of time, but she went from doing fine yesterday, to awful this morning. I immediately called Warwick Animal Hospital and they told me to bring her right in,.Gilly passed on her own a few minutes later. I called to explain and asked if I should bring her in anyway to be sure. When we arrived they took her right back to the vet, although by now it was clear that she was gone. The vet confirmed this and they returned her to me. When I asked what I owed, they said nothing. To me, that shows a real caring for the animals they treat and does not reflect a place whose main concern is monetary. I expected there would be a charge. If Warwick Animal Hospital was closer, I would definitely switch my other animals to them. I will always be grateful that they treated my ill animals so kindly, and even showed great respect for Gilly who was beyond knowing, carrying her with tender care. It brought comfort to me knowing my animals were treated as if they were their own animals. Read Less

We love Dr. Hirschmann, who we think treats our cats as well as she would treat her own (and she appears to be an excellent cat mom). We've been taking our animals there for several years and have seen several changeovers in doctors, but Dr. H has been there a long time, so it feels like we have gotten consistently good care from the same doctor. The staff has always been friendly to us and seems competent. The staff was particularly kind to us when one of our cats passed away from kidney failure. Since one of our older cats passed away, she has asked that we bring in our other older cat every 6 months for blood work, and so our oldest kitty is going on 17 now, and she is still here after her younger sister went because we've made the visits to the vet part of her "senior care." Our other two cats are youngsters, and they like Dr. H. (The senior cat is a terror with veterinarians, so we do those as sedated exams.) It's sad that other people have not had good experiences, and I feel for them and their lost pets. I just thought it worthwhile to share our very positive experiences. Read Less

I am new to RI and have been researching for a good vet in the area. Because I was a vet tech at the Boston Cat Hospital I am a bit picky. I am now an RN at a hospital in Boston and commute daily. My cats are a retired breeder Ragdoll I adopted and an adopted neutered male from the local animal shelter when I lived in MA. I think what concerns me the most about your post is that you are obviously a pet owner that has his pet's best interest in mind by keeping to a prescribed diet. For an animal that is on such a diet to fall off because the local vet would not extend the prescription tells me that there is a monetary issue here. Surely it would not have been a big issue for the vet to allow you to purchase the prescription diet one more time (or to even given you a small supply) till you had your pet scheduled for an exam. Poor business practice as far as I can see; and also poor medical practice as for this pet to come off a prescribed diet d/t the described situation does not tell me that the vet had the best interest of the pet in mind. Thank you for your input. Read Less

As for the grooming department, I began getting my dog groomed there when they started a couple of years ago. I disagree with what everyone is saying about this subject. I am just as happy with the new groomer (Renee) as I was with their former groomer. Every time I pick up my dog, he is clean and perfectly cut! And I agree,Tonya is amazing! I think everyone there is AMAZING! Read Less

Yes Janice the hospital is very expensive but i have to disagree with you on the staff. The staff is very nice, every one of them I never had a problem with one doctor that works there. The front desk people are great especially the short Spanish girl she is a sweetheart always greets me with a smile, And the Dr.s Assistants are great especially the young man that i always see there, he is so friendly and personable. But i do agree with how they cant keep there doctors cause i had to switch doctors numerous times through the years and i had to switch just recently again cause Dr. Hirsh moved to Georgia, she was wonderful and treated my pets with alot of love. So now i use the new doctor I think his name is Dr. Long. As for the new groomer, yes her name is Renee. she is terrible, Not personable and most of all she is very degrading. My pet was a little matted for a couple months and i had to neglect him for a short while due to a sickness, I was in and out of the hospital several times, and when i took him to be groomed the groomer kept asking me how much do i love my dog and then she said "" i guess not that much because you neglected him and thats cruel "" she made me feel like a bad pet owner and also felt like a horrible person i had to hold back my tears as i left him with her. I will never use that groomer ever again. As for the hospital? i will never take my pet to be medically treated anywhere else. I had to give the Warwick animal hosp. grooming services only one star. If i could i wouldnt even give them one star. As for the medical staff I give 100 stars. Read Less

I use to go to Warwick animal hosp. since the original owner was there Dr. Maurice. The hosp use to be a very highly respected facility with a great staff. I do not reccomend taking your pet there now. They are very expensive, shop around i guarantee you can get things cheaper and much better care for your pet. They are corporate owned by Vetcor out of Massachusetts which owns over 40 other hospitals across the country. The staff is very rude and obnoxious especially the doctor staff. They tend to lay guilt trips on you to do all kinds of tests even if your pet isn't acting sick. They make you feel like a bad pet owner if you can't afford to do what they want. The hospital manager and chief of staff have problems keeping doctors on staff especially the good ones, then they hire inexperienced doctors to fill positions. They now do grooming this is a real joke ask the rude arrogant groomer (I think her name was Renee) if you could see the grooming area, you will never take your pet there again. Bottom line is that the Warwick animal hospital is only out for the money and they really dont care about us pet owners. Read Less

Read Less

Everyone, from the receptionist at the desk, to the technicians and the doctor were absolutely fabulous with not only her, but my mom and i as well. Read Less

I needed some more food for my cat. It is prescription food, and I had just noticed it had run out. Usually warwick animal hospital gives me a warning when i need a new prescription, a bag ahead of time. Not this time! It didn't matter that its the week between christmas and new years. They refused to sell me more food until i get another prescription. I explained that I don't have a problem with the requirement, it was just that I'd had no warning and needed more time to get my cat to the vet. That if they sold me one more bag, I'd have a prescription by the next bag. It made no difference. I will not be going back to that place. Read Less

Its been 2 days since we had to put down out 13 year old dog, Emma. I had never been to the Warwick Animal Hospital before and needed a place to bring my dog to get checked. Upon arriving at the hospital, we were greated by professional staff, and was able to bring my dog into a room within minutes of walking in. Knowing the fate of my dog prior to even walking in, the Dr. as well as her staff were very kind and compassionate and completely understood how my wife and I felt. They walked us through all our options and gave us plenty of time to make our decisions. Just wanted to say thank you, as it was one of the hardest decisions I have every had to make. Read Less

Took two dogs there for annual shots, heartworm pills. One had an ear infection (he was a knucklehead and got into skunky water). The ""assistant"" was unprofessional-asked all kinds of personal questions that had nothing to do with my pets. (OBNOXIOUS). I thought they'd try to sell me the floor tile if it wasn't glued down. Tried to use scare tactics -then humiliation- to make me buy services that were not required. (Dr. even said ""Well, if you can't afford it"" because I wouldn't allow extra shots). They agreed to FAX heartworm RX to pharmacy when required...when time came they refused. I'd never trust these people in an emergency or for a surgery. NEVER AGAIN!!!! Read Less

As an animal hospital i would rate them 10 stars if they had it. Their staff are kind, caring and compassionate. They practice excellent medicine and always have your pets well being as their number one priory. Yes i agree they are a little pricey but you definitely get what you pay for. Lets face it we all know going to eat at McDonald's is cheaper then going to a place like Apple bees but McDonald's is going to give you crap. As for the grooming, what happened to the other groomer, she was great i loved her. She was kind, caring and she knew how the dogs body was shaped and how to make it look good. You could bring her any dog no matter how matted it was she knew what she could do to make it look brand new. I have heard that Tonya, their bather, is still there, She is amazing if you have a bath only dog take them to see her!!!! Read Less

I have been a client at the Warwick Animal Hospital for many years now and I have always been satisfied with their services. I find the doctors and staff to be helpful and fair and very compassionate during one's time in need.

Read Less
