Veronica has been going to WSAC for @ 10 years and has never had a bad experience. The doctors and staff are all caring, considerate, compassionate and highly competent professionals. They genuinely care about the animals they treat and you can tell because they get right down on the floor and give lots of love, affection and attention. Veronica recently had her bi-annual senior exam with Dr. Consiglio. Dr. C. was very thorough and checked Veronica out from head to toe, and also made time to give her lots of rubs and to accept lots of licks and kisses (Veronica even licked her eyeball and definitely got her tongue in her mouth a few times) - all this despite that Dr. C. has allergies and no doubt paid for Veronica's affections later. Her vet tech this visit - Erin - was wonderful, Veronica barely knew she had blood drawn. And everyone else working made sure to take time to come say "Hi" and make her feel like a Queen. We used them to treat our 16 year old cat. They found he was diabetic. Was extremely expensive. Told us we could not get a refill of his insulin unless we had Him in for a visit that would be north of 300. I have come to learn it is a corporate owned Place. The care was ok just not interested in doing Any business with them in the future. Read Less

I can't believe it's taken me so long to write a review about West Shore. I've been going here for years and unfortunately my three dogs have been very unlucky in the health department. The Drs and staff here are not only extremely knowledgeable, but they really truly care about you and your animals. I would never go anywhere else. I have sadly been through the ringer when it comes to vet visits.. sometimes being there multiple times a week even twice in one day because of my dogs ailments (cancer.. seizures and multiple other issues) I got to know the girls here and they're some of the most caring people I know. They're always there to answer any questions I have.  Dr Gelsomino especially is a complete rock star superhero veterinarian. She gave me more time with my babies and when my Chloe passed she made me a beautiful paw print and you could see how much time and effort she put in to making it perfect and beautiful. It is one of my most prized possessions. Thank you to the amazing staff at West Shore for being there for me when my dogs and I needed you most. I'd also like to add to the people saying that they waited a long time.. I will tell you why, Dr Gelsomino is meticulous when writing out the reports from each patient, she stays late frequently to make sure all emails and calls are returned and all patient reports are complete. I've gotten these and am always surprised at how detailed they are so I don't mind waiting because I know she is just taking care of someone else's baby just as well as she is taking care of mine. We had to put our pet down and went to West Shore Animal Clinic because the vet who has treated him his whole life is quite a ride away. They were incredibly kind, considerate and informative. If they gave that kind of care in euthanizing our pet, I can only imagine how well they treat their other patients. When the day comes for a new pet, it will be cared for at West Shore. Read Less

Writing reviews isn't my bag to say the least, but I have to make an exception on this one... The only really bad day of having a dog is putting them down, I feared that day snuck up, catching my regular vet & I somewhat off guard. He recommended the possibility of laser surgery at West Shore Animal Clinic where Dr.Proulx showed a level of attention, care & approachable expertise way beyond what I would have expected. Beware of this practice, especially if you are neutering or spaying an animal. They will use that as an opportunity to run unnecessary tests., and X-rays.. Ask for Lab Test results! They will say your pet has parasites and not show you the test results-When you request "test" results -the parasite diagnosis magically disappears-Dishonest practice run by a corporation out to make money..There are many more honest and qualified Vets in RI..RUN!! My almost 10 year old English Springer, Maya; was so lucky to have the loving staff at West Shore care for her. I rescued her 2 years ago and the paperwork said she was spayed. She started acting funny a little over a week ago. We found out through an ultrasound that she was still intact and had a bad infection. She had emergency surgery this past Thursday and is at home and recovering. I can't say enough about Erica who mans the front of the house, Erin who is such a caring veterinary tech. To Dr. gelsimino who not only took this emergency surgery on but has called twice checking on Maya. Thank you all so much, you made a scary situation a lot easier. Read Less

My chocolate lab was very sick ,and my husband hasn't been able to work in a few years due to a serious injury. We love our eight year old member of the family but our financial resources were low. I'm an emotional train wreck when it's comes to my dog. Worry Wart is an understatement. The Drs/Tech's and everyone there shines above what even someone with the highest expectations would have. My Major gets the best care there from the time we walk in until the time we leave. I may sound like a broken record but I honestly don't know what I'd do without them. They are the absolute best! Now that we moved to riverside we still drive pretty far to go see them because they take such good care of our two pitties. I've been to many different vets in RI and have never been blown away. These guys are great! Customer service is great, they send reminders, texts, emails etc. very up to date with technology. We've been going to West Shore Animal Clinic for about four years.  Despite not loving everything about the clinic (e.g. not accepting Rx call-ins from 1800petmeds.com), we would never go anywhere else.  We love our vet- Dr. Gelsomino.  She is the most compassionate and loving vet we have ever had.  Additionally, she has an amazing "bed side" manner.  She takes the time to explain all results and possible treatment options, in addition to completely answering ALL our questions.  All this while sitting on the floor cuddling with our puppies.  Our Labrador has been through several pretty serious health issues.  Even though the illnesses can be emotionally draining, I am always truly grateful for Dr. Gelsomino.  I always full heartedly recommend her to anyone. Worst service ever!!! I came in for an emergency after my puppy had just gotten attacked by another (only clinic that was close to us). First thing they did was give me an attitude, when I was clearly standing there hopeless with my critically injured puppy. I just wanted them to check if my pup was going to be alright. She offers her professional opinion and advises which treatment options she thinks will work best, yet she is understanding of each individuals financial reality. We adopted a 6 year old Boston Terrier from a local animal shelter--and I couldn't be happier with Dr's Consiglio and Gelsomino, both have been extremely helpful in learning to stop our Boston's allergies. He went from being a very itchy doggie to a very happy playful doggie. The staff is wonderful, taking their time with each patient and I have to say...I have a doggie that LOVES going to the vet! I first came to this clinic after my cat experienced urinary problems. West Shore immediately got me in for an appointment and likely saved my cats life with their quick diagnosis and treatment. Vet techs Erin and Jen were especially helpful with not only reassuring me but also helping me pick a food for him that would prevent any further flair ups. After seeing them for several years for my cat's annual visits, I adopted a kitten and took him in to see them after he developed an eye infection and they once again provided thorough and prompt care. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a clinic that puts the time and effort into caring for your animals. I have seen first hand how much both Dr. Consiglio and Dr. Proulx care for their patients and their patients owners and would recommend them without question. Read Less

They created a whole story marking my dogs record saying she was fear aggressive when they were simply scared of her because she's a Rottweiler.  She is an agility and rally dog with her canine good citizen certification . Every time she came in for shots they tried to make me muzzle her. Then they told me, we muzzle all dogs. Then when I told them my sister was a vet technician for over 10 years and they were not telling the truth. They came clean with the fact they had labeled her medical record that she was to be muzzled. Then I was like print my record. Your fired as my vet they argued with me. Then when I got my printed record I could see all the stuff they wrote about my 1 year old puppy. I would not go here. Thier service is terrible and they are very expensive. Read Less

We had to let our 16 year old choc lab go over the rainbow bridge last August and every one was so patient, loving and caring with her and my family. An experience I dreaded but have pleasant memories knowing Brownie went with love and dignity helped by people who care and love animals. I have been taking my furry babies to Dr. Consiglio at West Shore Animal Clinic for more than four years now. I have a 13 year old dog and an 18 year old cat. I had seen many vets through the years until I found Dr Consiglio. My animals are in the best hands ever. You get compassionate care with no judgement and no pushing to do tests you cannot afford. Service has gone down hill since Dr. Hebert left, prices have gone up. I noticed my dog's eye was retracted. I had noticed this once before, but the eye corrected itself. I was concerned, so I took my dog in to have the eye checked out. I should have known better. The vet said that it is common for the eye to retract when irrated. Then, without consulting me, the vet took the dog into the "back room" - I always wonder what goes on the back room - where she performed a blood pressure test, a corneal fluorescein stain, an ocular pressure, and a cytology - skin/ear to the tune of $169. With the office visit, the bill came to $265- yikes. Though pleasant, the front desk help always seems to be in a state of dissaray. This is not the first poor service visit I had at this facility, but it will be the last. I'm moving on to another facility. Read Less

The doctors and staff at West Shore Animal Clinic are great! I changed vets over the course of last year and I'm glad I found this practice. My dog recently had a health issue and it was handled promptly and professionally. After his visit the staff sat down and played with him and gave him lots of attention. Also this is the only vets office I know of that has a grassy walking are for dogs; as well as makes sure there are no negative interactions among their animals waiting for care. We've been clients of West Shore for many years and I absolutely love Dr. Gelsomino.  She is a great addition to the staff.  She takes the time to really explanation every diagnosis and all of the treatment options available.  She even takes the extra step to explain why they recommend or don't recommend certain treatments.  West Shore's staff, especially Jen, have been great over the years.  They've been there for our pets' first visits and helped us when it was time to make the difficult decisions once they had become too sick to continue to treat.  We currently have a new kitten and an adult dog and plan on being clients of West Shore for many more years. I've had bad luck in finding a good vet in the area until I went here. I didn't bring my cat anywhere for a while because of my experience at Warwick Animal Hospital. This place is great though! I will be honest though.. I made my appointment at a time that seemed to be better for them, asking them the best time to go (6:20PM on a Tuesday) and well.. it didn't really turn out to be the best time probably.I showed up promptly at the time for my appointment but no one was around. I checked myself in and missed one of the check-in papers because no one was around to let me know which papers to fill out. The actual check up from the vet(Dr. Gelsomino) was good and I had no problems with her or her assistant. They handled my cat very good considering the amount of hell I've had at vets in the past. The only problem I did have was the amount of time I waited before, during and after the checkup. 10 minutes out in the front, 40 minutes (after going out to ask where the vet was twice)in the room, and then another 10 minutes after the checkup to payout and wait for the "report card" from the vet. The other thing that annoyed me was that they tried doing the actual checkup in a different room, after my cat was already relaxed in the room for a 1/2 hour waiting. I told the assistant no way, my cat is calm now, here and now is the time to do it. The vet came in shortly after. Thankfully because of the visit, regardless of the wait, I will be bringing my cat back.I'd also like to touch on the pricing I called every vet in the area and priced out everything I'd typically be paying for. The staff at West Shore is always friendly, professional and extremely caring. Every time we come in, if the problem is big or small (like just a nail trim), our 14 year old Chihuahua is treated the same. She is family, not a pet and it makes a huge difference to have wonderful Dr. and great staff who explain everything and are patient and gentle with your best buddy!
