This is the worst place I have taken my dog to be groomed EVER! We took our dog there to have a trim and to be brushed....we pick him up and he was completely shaved. terrible. We decide to take our dog back there a second time just to be brushed since they completely shaved him the last time. We drop him off for his appointment time at 11 and still no word by 4 o clock on when he will be ready. We then go over to see what the hell is happening since he is just supposed to be brushed and they say that drop offs are in the morning only and that they were overbooked today so that is the reason it took so long when he had an APPOINTMENT at 11 which they did not even have marked on their calendar. He had been crated for a total of SIX HOURS. Never taking my dog here again and would never recommend this place to anyone. It's at the bottom of our list. Read Less

Animal medical west did a fantastic job from actually treating my dog. To working with us and careing. The veterinarian is hands down wonderful he explained every thing from the beginning . My dog has been a patient since 2010 and I've only ever had good experiences here. My dog doesn't have many health issues but he is very mischievous so my personal experience is usually with care for random incidents (plus yearly checkups), but I highly recommend this place. The care is affordable and I like that they don't pressure you or try to scare you into unnecessary treatments. (The number of times I've been talked out of a panic for something my pup has done or gotten into is probably double digits at this point.) They're also really good about talking through issues over the phone and helping determine if I should bring my dog in or not - which is a huge help because more often than not, the issue resolves itself without needing a visit.Read Less

My dog was neutered in a different town. When we moved to Charleston our normal vet flaked out on removing my dogs sutures. Animal Medical West was really there for us and got his sutures removed. we are so pleased to have found a vet in our new home! Thanks again AMW! Read Less

I love working here and take all my pets here as well. The doctors are very knowledgable and willing to help. And the front desk staff try their best to provide excellent customer service. We work very hard to try to make sure everyone is provided with great customer service. And we are so thankful for the understanding and loyal clients we have. I absolutely love and trust the vets and staff at AMW! We have been taking our two hounds here for years and I trust them completely. Dr. Christo and Dr.Hentges have given both of our dogs excellent care; they are genuine, honest, knowledgable and accessible. Dana, the practice manager, and the staff are also wonderful. Dana steps in to help wherever and whenever she is needed, communicates with clients very thoroughly and genuinely cares about the clients and their animals. She is a true asset to the practice. I have taken my mini-schnauzer here for several years. They helped save her life when she found a "toy" pill bottle in a visiting friends purse. They also keep great records and were able to determine her seasonal allergies based on the timing of yearly skin problems. They have ALWAYS been friendly, and pricing is MUCH more realistic than the "big box" options. Not to mention the fact that they don't try to scare you into pointless services. Although I am sure they have made mistakes in the past with some, I would like to meet the person that hasn't. When they thought they had made a mistake with my schnauzer, they went OUT OF THEIR WAY to make sure they resolved the problem. Overall, A+. Dr. Hentges, the main vet at Animal Medical West, is a wonderful doctor who is brilliant and compassionate and highly skilled. He saved my dog's life when other vets in Charleston did not have a clue as to what was wrong. He also does not try to bleed you dry financially.
