Don't sign up for their wellness plans it's a scam. My dog was running and hit her eye and looked as if she had an eye injury. Called this place within 30 minutes of closing since I had the Wellness Plan and was greeted by a woman who told me that I could not have her seen since they were closing in 20 minutes. I told her we were regular patients and that we had the insurance and she CORRECTED me to tell me it was a Wellness plan and that I could not be seen. Apparently she talked to the vet on staff who did not want to see my dog even though there was concern for eye injury. Unreliable people who do not care about pets. I called before they were closing and and they turned me away with a potential injury while they still had 20 minutes on the clock. Don't fool yourself into thinking these people care about your pets. I have cancelled this stupid Wellness plan and had to do a "payout" for services provided upfront which really were not services other than our initial visit. Don't fall into this trap. Read Less

Recently took my geriatric and cantankerous cat Albert to Banfield for blood-work and a dental. Dr. McHugh and the vet assistants were so patient and caring with Albert. They took extra time to handle Albert slowly to keep him calm. Dr. McHugh was very knowledgeable about caring for older and scared cats. This has been one of the best places for us. Thank you to Dr. McHugh and the banfield staff for being so loving and patient with us!!! Read Less

Came in 10 minutes before they closed, hoping that someone could do some simple wound care for my dogs' scraped up paws, and they told me that the vet had already left for the day. In my many years of working in customer service, yes, it sucks when someone walks in right before close - but next time maybe try not to huddle in an area where customers can see you roll your eyes. It looked like they were "drawing straws" in the back to see who had to come out front and greet me If you require an appointment to be seen so late in the day, then someone should have told me that - NOPE! If the hours say you are open until 5pm, you should be taking business until then...plain and simple. The 3 ladies at the front register actually did more for me and my dog than the pet hospital; they actually showed some compassion and tried to give me simple things to try at home. Many, many kudos to them!! I'm not usually a person who posts reviews (I think I've done 4 in my life including this) but that was such a bad display of customer service that I had to say something, I hope this helps other ppl in the future. I will not be bringing my dog here ever again. Read Less

Look, we all get super nervous about where to take our beloved fur babies when they need some extra care. I was wary of visiting Banfield at first, as I've heard mixed reviews. I can say, with confidence, that this Banfield is pretty freaking stellar. This location is located at the back of the Petsmart retail store (next to the grooming area).I appreciate that they always give my old pup a thorough head to tail exam, even when we stop in for a followup. The doctors and vet techs are very skilled communicators, and let you know what they're seeing and thinking as they perform the exam. If I'm at the vet with my dog, odds are, I'm anxious about something (as is she!), so the extra mile to let me know what's happening is great. Downfall for me is always the wait time. I've had more vet visits this year than I would like (around 6), and I rarely wait less than 20 minutes after my appointment time. They're always busy at this location and you just have to wait. Schedule accordingly... Overall, I'm a fan of this Banfield. Everyone is super friendly and helpful, plus the prices are pretty reasonable. My dog loves coming here because of all the snacks she gets from the staff! Read Less

Worst bet ever! Used this Banfield for their affordable "puppy plan" when I got my puppy. When she was about 8 months old she was extremely sick so I brought her to Banfield, who kept her for an entire day for observation, charged me over $500 told me they didn't know what was wrong with her and said they needed another $2,000 for extensive testing. I couldn't afford that so I left crying, so scared of what might be wrong with my dog, thinking maybe she would die suffering because I couldn't afford her treatment. A friend suggested Oceanside vet on Folly Road - I took my dog there and was immediately told my dog was fine she just needed her anal glands expressed because they were blocked, & charged me less than $20 for the service. My dog has been a happy healthy pup ever since - I would NEVER go to banfield again! They're clearly a bunch of uneducated random employees who know nothing about animals. Read Less

I have very mixed emotions about this location specifically, but let me start out by saying I have been going to the one in North Charleston for years, and have loved it. At this particular Banfield, I had my first experience today. I recently moved closer to this one so I decided to just switch over. I did wait an hour and fifteen minutes for my cat to be seen; however, the receptionists did tell me there was a prior emergency and the vet was running behind. The vet I met was very nice and helpful, although the vet techs in the room didn't smile and honestly looked like they didn't want to be there. My cat has bad anxiety, but the vet was very gentle and patient with him. Besides the long wait, the visit itself was great. The receptionists weren't very knowledgeable even though they talked a bunch like they knew what they were talking about. Always take the vets word as bible, I've learned. I've seen many, many comments saying how much the pets plans are crap, which is honestly NOT TRUE! I have my cat on the highest pet plan that costs me $33/month, and he gets free visits whenever he needs them, discounts on meds, free 6mo supply of Revolution flea meds (a $104 value), and free dental cleaning twice a year. Today, they did his 6mo comprehensive check up, and I saved $451 with the wellness plan. Their receipts are pages long, covering information and detailed with the services your pets get. I have a lot of love for Banfield, as they have saved me thousands of dollars and have never steered me in the right direction. This location seems to get a lot of clients and I don't really think they have the staff for it, but I'd wait all day if it meant I paid nothing for a usual $451 service. Read Less

I want to like this place, I really do. The doctor is very nice and one of the girls at the front desk is very friendly. I wish I got her name, she's assisted us twice now and she is probably the only friendly face at the front desk. I am writing this as I'm still sitting in the waiting room, 70 minutes after my appointment was supposed to be. This is the second time this has happened. The first appointment I had, we waited an hour until we finally saw the doctor. I have a very impatient puppy like most puppies and sitting for over an hour is not fun. Not really sure what the point of an appointment is. Or if there are sicker dogs that need to go ahead of me, okay But how about letting me know? If I wasn't stuck on the wellness plan for a year, I would not come back here. Until then, I'm here... Read Less

I took my dog here to get her teeth cleaned and have some growths removed. We normally go to the location in Mt. Pleasant but the waiting list was too long. They removed the growths and sent them off to the lab. The Dr. called me to let me know that one of the growths was cancerous and was a grade 3 tumor which has a high probability of recurring or spreading to another part of the body and recommended ultra sound and other diagnostic imaging. We decided to get X-Rays and upgrade our wellness plan based on the diagnosis. We also scheduled a follow up with the oncologist at another office. We met with the oncologist today and she showed us the report that said my dog actually had a low grade 2 tumor and didn't recommend further testing. While I'm ecstatic that my dog has a much better prognosis we have been through hell the last couple of weeks thinking my dog had a more aggressive form of cancer. How does a mistake like this happen and what else is being missed? Read Less

When we got our first cat, we needed to have her checked, spayed, and vaccinated. We got suckered into the Wellness Plan. We asked that it NOT be set up for recurring payments, and we asked to be notified before the end of the term. We were assured that was standard and would happen. However, at the end of the term, we received no notification, and the plan automatically renewed. When we called to cancel, we were told that you have to cancel before the end of the term, and if we cancelled right away, we would have to pay out the balance of the current term-a full year's worth. We decided to keep it and cancel at the end of that year. In the mean time, we rescued a second cat. Sadly, he loves to bite. He was a rescue, so we don't know what happened before we got him, but whatever it was, it has made him very defensive and scared of unfamiliar people. We explained this to the vets, the techs, and the front desk staff. Still, they did not heed our warnings, and he bit at one of the techs. Thank goodness the tech moved away quickly because if your animal bites someone, even if it is the person's fault, your animal is the one that is punished. They would not let us be in the room while he was getting his exam, and we could hear him meowing desperately in the back. I know our anxiety over the visit didn't help, but when the staff doesn't offer you any sort of reassurance or explanations, it doesn't help. I know other people have had great experiences here. Unfortunately, ours was not great. I would advise against getting the wellness plan, and if you have a nervous, anxious, or easily upset pet, I would recommend going elsewhere.Read Less

Our puppy became a patient here when she needed her spay, shots and general/first check up. This hospital was highly recommended by two friends and it was conveniently located inside the pet store that we frequent. The only reason (important to note) that I did not give them 5/5 stars was due the lack of informing me of the huge cost of our upcoming appointment when I initially booked over the phone: $400+!!! (I was comparing to past experiences/past dog spays in Canada being $250 CND.)When the technician took my call to book us for this appointment, I think it was rather important that she let us know what to expect for the total cost of all the services our puppy was to receive. She could've offered to explain the insurance option then as well. We could have then decided if we would book there or go somewhere else.Once I arrived with my puppy early in the morning to drop her off, I was helped by the technician named Christine. Absolutely awesome service & attitude! Thankfully, she was understanding & patient when my jaw dropped at hearing about the cost. She was thorough in explaining the option of pet insurance and helped me understand the high calibre & full spectrum of veterinary care her team would provide compared to less expensive locations & the animal shelters. (She was respectful about the importance of shelters, and objective.) I was confident in making my decision to get the insurance and most importantly, leave our fur-baby in their care. The hospital's team called as soon as they had all blood test results to let me know everything was good to go and an ETA for my pets surgery. After the surgery they immediately called to report everything went well and gave me another ETA of when I could come by to pick her up.The doctor took the time to meet with me and our puppy, answered my questions then another team member went over additional  information... In essence...educating me!When I picked up our pet post-surgery, she was happily groggy, and properly medicated so she did not seem in pain. The doctor and staff offered a full report of how things went and again answered questions.Get this! The next day the hospital team called and left a voicemail, checking up on how our puppy was doing. Just WOW.The insurance works out to about $34/month, covered this appointment (shots, pain meds) with the exception of heart worm med & "cone of shame". It will cover her next three rounds of shots and all visits for her first year. (obviously some limitations as far as meds etc.) it also provides a discount on meds and other products and services.Overall pawsitively awesome experience! Read Less

After each appointment I feel like I have been given the knowledge and tools needed for her. The staff is very friendly and I never wait more than a few minutes to be seen. When I got my kitten spayed here I was nervous about her incision, as I am an over protective owner, I called and they told me to bring her down if I was worried and the vet took a look at her immediately and not only let me know there was nothing wrong but explained to me exactly what I was seeing and why. Our second cat was a rescue and when we found him on the side of the road, we noticed a large gash in his stomach and immediately took him to a local animal hospital who told us the bill would be $1800 and that he would need stitches. When we took him to Banfield, everyone was wonderful! The bill was about $80 and he did not need stitches. He is now a happy, healthy cat. When we took our dog a few days ago, we were very concerned as he was very, very sick. After a few hours during which we were able to leave our dog and get some food for ourselves (a welcome break after being up for over 24 hours with a sick pup) we were told he had giardia. WE LOVE THIS PLACE!! This Banfield is the greatest. All of their staff are awesome. We have a Westipoo that got very sick. She was vomitting, had diarrhea and was very lethargic. They ran numerous tests to find out what was going on, always telling us about the cost and making sure we were aware of everything going on. Our dog was dehydrated when I brought her in and since she was unable to keep anything down, she had to go in every day for a week to recieve IV fluids. We got at least 2 calls everyday telling us how she was doing while she was there. The vet tech Kerri is the best. Whenever she had some down time or was doing paper work, she would take my sweet girl out of her kennel and hold her. She really helped to make this tramatic ordeal pleaseant for my dog. To this day, Kerri gets so excited when she see's our Westipoo and loves our new yorkie. A few weeks ago, I noticed this big lump on my Yorkie's shoulder. We got to Banfield at 7:30 and they took us right back. They took a sample and looked at it under the microscope and it turned out that my baby had an infection. They gave us a prescription for an antiobiotic and told us to take it to Publix because it would be free. When we got to Publix, the pharmacist said it wasn't available in the form it was written and that the vet needed to change it to a liquid (I work in a pharmacy and the pharmacist has the authority to change if from a pill to a liquid if the patient is ok with that) Anyways, we had to drive back to Banfied to get it changed. Luckily, the vet was talking with a coworker in the parking lot and she was more that happy to help us. She even waited around 10 minutes while we looked for a pen. I love this Banfield and I recommended it to everyone that I know. We've been coming her since they opened and we will never go anywhere else. They don't just make sure that my dog is healthy, that also make her happy. My dogs don't even mind going to the vet because they know that once they get there, they will see people they know and that love them just as much as we do! Read Less

I had to go to work but started calling vets all over Charleston to find one that could see her on very short notice. I hadn't had any luck until a woman from work mentioned Banfield. I called their West Ashley location and they agreed to see her that day even though I wouldn't be able to get there until a few minutes before their closing time. The initial exam was free and all the other services were reasonably priced. The vet who worked with her was very friendly and was well liked by my kitten. I called in a prescription called Prednisone for my dog about two weeks ago. I called about 11am and spoke with Tamikea, she asked me my phone # and told me she would let the Vet know and if they had any questions then they would give me a call. So I waited and waited, and about 5pm I called and asked them if everything was ok before I have my boyfriend stop by and pick up the prescription. A guy answered the phone this time and he said that I had to come in for blood work for my dog. He said that the Vet said so beacause I hadn't been to Banfield since Nov. of 2009. So I asked him if I could speak with the Vet. Carrie gets on the phone and says since I used to go to the Mount Pleasant Banfield and I haven't been there in awhile I would have to have blood work done and she would have to call Dr Minor (the Vet in Mt Pleasant) and ask her if its ok to give me the pills. I told her that I was in her office in July of this year and my dog had a Physical Exam and got the pills then and I should get one more refill before I have to go back in for another Physical Exam. She kept telling me that I wasn't and I told her that I must be going crazy beacause I have a prescrption bottle that says their address and with Dr Jefferson's name on the bottle. She was like wait one minute, and then she says oh I'm sorry I must of over looked it, I do see you were here in July but I still need to call Dr Minor to see if I can give you the pills. I'm like do I have to drive all the way to Mount Pleasant to get these pills and I've already been to your office for the Exam. She said no but I still need to get approval for Dr Minor. Then I asked her why didn't they ever call me back. She said that her and Tamikea both called me and I don't have voicemail. I'm already pissed and now she's telling me my phone doesn't work. I didnt even have one missed call. So I told her I would call Dr Minor myself and hung up the phone on her. I decided to call back and get corporates #. Tamikea answers and I ask her the name of the Vet I was speaking to and corporates #. She says hold one one second. And she gets back on the phone and asked me again what did I need and I told her again. Then puts me back on hold again. Then Carrie picks up. She said can I help you. I told her that I needed her name and coporates #. She gave it to me and said I can give you the pills I just need to call Dr Minor and make sure its ok. I told I didnt understand why she has to call another office and ive been in her office, it doesn't make since. So shes like I'll get the pills ready and you can pick them up and she apologized for all the confusion. I told her that my boyfriend will be in to pick them up and she said ok. He gets home and theres only 10 pills, I always get 30 pills. So then I call back and of course Tamikea answers and says I was gonna call you but I knew you were gonna call. The reason why Carrie gave him only 10 pills is because the sooner he runs out of them he needs to come in for bloodwork which is $125.00 that she scheduled for you in a couple of weeks. I already have a headache and I'm losing my voice and I said get Carrie back on the phone. Carrie gets on and says I'm sorry I just realized that I only gave you 10, I'll get the 20 ready and you can pick them up. I told her that I wouldn't be able to come in that evening she said ok and said she was sorry again. I told her it was fine thanks and hung up. Well I went in today with all my paperwork and two prescription bottles in case I had any problems. I get there and a girl named Tamikea was there. CONTINUED BELOW Read Less

While Im waiting I notice Tamikea is still talking to her friend. I know for sure now that it wasn;t work related and the girl didn't have a pet with her unless it was invisible. So then the girl comes back out with a Vet named Dr. Jenkins. She introduced herself and talked to me about Prednisone, what kind of blood work she recommends and how much it would be. She said the bloodwork would be about $100.00 and i asked to to give me some paperwork because Ive been quoted two different prices she said ok and went to the back. The other girl comes out again and says ok its gonna be $12.40. I said you told me they were gonna be free since you guys made the mistake and give me the wrong amount in the first place. She said something that didn't make sense I shook my head and paid for them. I couldn't believe this. She said your all set, and I said no I need paperwork from Dr. Jenkins. She said ok I'll find out hold on. She went and didn't come back, so after waiting 10 more minutes we left. I think I was there about 45 minutes for freaking PILLS. What the hell is wrong with these people????????When I left I realized that I forgot to get my dogs flea medicine. So I went to The Banfield in Mount Pleasant so I didnt have to deal with those crazy people again. I was helped by a nice girl at the front desk and I told her what happened and she said I should be refunded and that I should speak with Taryn the office manager before I speak with the Owner Harry Smith. I said ok and I left and called her. I told her what happened and she said sorry and asked if I had the card and she would refund me the money. I gave it to her and she asked me for my address so she could send the paperwork that I waited for and so I didn't have to come back by the office. She also said that if I have any more problems call her. Im glad she refunded the money but it still doesn't make up for the headache and time I've wasted there. No one should have to go through this bs. I usually wouldn't want to make a complaint but I had to. Stay away from there unless you want a migriane and want to be treated like crap. Read Less

Read Less

When we took our dog a few days ago, we were very concerned as he was very, very sick. Read Less

My kitten was found in a parking lot. She was skinny and dirty, but friendly so I brought her home. I fed her and took care of her, but she started to have some health problems one morning. I signed up for their wellness plan which includes her spaying and her shots for a fairly low overall price. I was very impressed with everything from their phone etiquette to their treatment. Highly recommended for anyone looking for preventative care. Read Less

She was talking to a customer for about 10 minutes laughing and talking about unrelated work things. She didn't even acknowledge us. So I looked at my boyfriend and he said not to say anything. We waited patiently. Finally another girl comes out and asked me if I needed help. I told her I was there to pick up pills and what had happened. I also asked her how much I would have to pay since they charged me $11.40 for 10 and I always pay $13.40 for 30 pills. She said theres no charge and I said ok and went to the back to get them. Read Less

Worst service ever! I spent over $1,000 at this vet and trusted them with my bulldog when she had a heat stroke and they prolonged her agony by administering the wrong medications and never gave her oxygen. She was only 9 months old and they gave her drugs at levels you would give an adult horse! Then they cold heartedly ask so when can you pay the bill? I am apalled at the inhumane workers there! I do not recommend this vet at all! Read Less

The kitty nipped at the girl after growling a little. They then dragged her back to me by her neck, told me what happened and implied that she had rabies. They advised us to kill her. We took watched her at home for 10 days, getting DHEC check-ups and she was fine. These people treated my cat badly then wanted to kill her because of it.
