Dr. Sheridan and his staff are fantastic! They take such amazing care of my 2 Weimaraners and My Doberman. They are always available for any question or need that I have to provide the best healthcare for my dogs. Dr. Sheridan has taken his time to help figure out my dogs allergies as other vets in town have just ignored the issue. I highly recommend them and they are the best! Read Less

I use FRAH for boarding. Always a pleasant staff and very accommodating. They always leave me feeling like my dog is a rock star. They called m on vacation when he was shaking due to the July 4 fireworks and suggested a sedative. I didn't like the original recommendation; spoke to the doctor and we went with an oral paste. I liked that he was open to considering alternatives and there was no issue with me rejecting the original suggestion. I genuinely feel that they have my dog's best interests in mind. I unfortunately had to try another boarding facility in N. Charleston due to the owners of FRAH being out of town during one of our vacations. It was a complete nightmare; the owner was judgmental, ignorant and pompous. FRAH has earned my trust and loyalty. You don't know what you have until you try someplace else. Read Less

When I asked if they were an avian veterinarian the said they were. I explained that I needed to take my sons pet bird out of the country, they were happy to give me a health certificate but when I mentioned the rest of the criteria needed to take our pet bird out of the country (band or microchip, etc. which they should know if they're handing out health certificates) they placed me on hold, returned to tell me that "they didn't want to do it" I clarified with the girl on the phone, are you saying you don't want to do it and she replied yes. just yes. no explanation, just yes, they don't want to do it. I started using the Folly Road Animal Hospital for their cheap kennel rates and after a generally good experience started going there for my cat's yearly boosters and exams. They were great while my cat had no health problems. Earlier this year I took him in to see Dr. Sheridan because he was overgrooming and obsessively licking and losing hair.  Dr. Sheridan diagnosed him with psychogenic alopecia and prescribed him diazepam, aka Valium. I was informed of the risk of liver failure but was assured it was extremely rare and only happened in cases of overdosage. This past Saturday I noticed he wasn't eating and took him to an emergency clinic. His bloodwork came back showing that his liver was failing due to the Valium and we ended up putting him to sleep Saturday night. I can't express the devastation and disappointment I feel especially since he was taking this medication for a minor condition that could have been treated with something that didn't put his life in danger. I've since talked to a few other vets who told me they would never give Valium to a cat when there are other options because this can happen with one single dose. I called several times the week he was taking the Valium with concerns and was never told to stop the medication or try anything else. I blame myself for not doing proper research before and not questioning something that didn't feel necessary, but I trusted Dr. Sheridan who has years of experience and education behind his diagnosis. Maybe this is a rare case, but I don't think I'll ever understand why it was necessary to put my otherwise healthy cat's life at risk when clearly this side effect isn't as rare as it seemed. After doing a little more research and finding that Dr. Sheridan has had allegations in the past of animal abuse, I'm not surprised that their rates are so cheap. There are better vets in Charleston; it's worth it to pay the extra money. Read Less

I will preface this review by saying I made SEVERAL ATTEMPTS to reach out to Dr. Sheridan with my concerns, which were roundly ignored and never returned. I adopted my 11 month old boxer in December 2015 and brought him to Dr. Sheridan for a new puppy exam, first visit was fine. Every time I've been there since then has been one sales pitch after another and very little actual veterinary assistance. I brought him in in January because he seemed to have an allergy issue. The solution Dr. Sheridan proposed was to switch his food from a grain-free with 6 ingredients to the Holistic Select his office is plastered with. The Holistic Select , which is a fine brand, has well over 25+ ingredients which are mostly chicken or fish meal and all kinds of enzymes. It has no recommendations related to allergies, it simply costs twice as much as the food he was on and would have increased the possibilities of allergice reaction. I continued with my original food and found an allergy supplement which works fine. You'd think a vet might recommend that first, Example #1 of dishonesty. I also noticed my dog's eyes were red, which was attributed to a "possible eye infection" but no exam was conducted or tests run. I was given a $35 tube of ointment, price was not given until it was time to go and when I brought him in 3 weeks later with his eyes still red all of a sudden it dawned on him that maybe he's pulling on the leash and causing that. I went and bought a $25 harness and it cleared right up but of course I still have that useless ointment. Example #2 After this I still decided to stick with Dr. Sheridan, against my own better judgment because Hendrix (my dog) seems to enjoy going there. He recently had a nasty bout with diarrhea that lasted a couple weeks so I took him back in for advice on what to do. It was discovered thru a fecal sample that he has hookworms and would need treatment. SALES MODE ACTIVATED!!!! He then proceeded to tell me how I should buy any medicine from him because he has to put his 2 daughters thru school, ignoring the fact that I'm trying to determine the best course of action for my dog who has parasites living inside him. I finally made a decision on treatment after filtering out all the BS offered and took him home only to deal with diarrhea for another whole week. When I called Dr. Sheridan back to determine why this issue wasn't cleared up we were again pitched more medicine that would fix the problem within 48 hours. Apparently he didn't think to mention this during the first visit. 3 days later after more diarrhea my girlfriend called him back yet again and it was suggested we bring him in overnight for "observation." This is a Friday night and we were told it would be $18 for them to watch him overnight because they couldn't figure this out in my initial 45 min visit. Well 3 hours later, after we'd dropped him off already, we called back to bring his medicine and now they're going to be closed Saturday and it's $20/night to board so we had to pay $60 to have him observed. I picked him up Monday evening and for my money I got a chart that says he had a somewhat firm stool Sunday. Yes, I PAID $60 AT A VETERINARIAN'S SUGGESTION FOR SOMEONE TO WALK MY DOG AND LOOK AT HIS POOP, THAT IS THEIR DEFINITION OF OBSERVATION. When I picked him up of course Dr. Sheridan had already gone home so I calmly requested a call back to discuss what the point was in him recommending they keep him if that's all they were going to do. My number was taken and I was told he would call me back Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday afternoon came and went, I called back at 5:15 pm to ask if he had received the message, I was told he'd taken it home and would call me from his home. Tuesday evening came and went with no phone call. Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm I again called for Dr. Sheridan, once my voice and number were recognized he was all of a sudden too busy and his wife wanted to know how she could help. This man cares nothing about your pet's well-being, he just wants to line his pockets. Stay away!!!! Read Less

I wanted to throw in my two cents about FRAH. Fifteen years ago (so 2001) I was a college student and had my first cat as an adult. After treating her for fleas one morning, I went off to school and work. When I returned home around 5pm, I found her lying in a pool of her own vomit. She had been vomiting all day and was severely dehydrated. I began calling vets in hopes that someone was still open. I finally landed on Folly Road Animal Hospital and I raced my cat over. The Dr quickly figured out that she had ingested the flea meds. I had striped them down her back as the package indicated. He explained that I should never use those types of flea meds. It was the Hartz Brand which I later discovered was in multiple lawsuits for poisoning several hundred animals with their products. Anyhoo, the Dr was able to get fluids into my cat and give her bath. He recommended Frontline products to me (which I used for years after) and they kept my baby for the weekend so they could monitor her. He told me that she was so dehydrated that she would have started seizing so Dr Sheridan saved my cat's life. Fifteen years later, my cat is still with me and at very least, she is alive because of the care she received at FRAH. I don't know what has happened in intervening years but my experience was excellent. Read Less

Our cat had been operated upon a couple of days prior and had surgical implanted drains just under his skin as well as several stitches to close the deep incision. We took our cat to get the drains removed and his vet tech took out all the stiches as well. The wound was deep and open and we were about 8 days away from removing them. We had a friend pick up our cat after the procedure and were shocked and HORRIFIED to what we came home to. We had to make an emergency trip to Bees Ferry the next day to make sure we weren't overreacting. The vet on duty was equally shocked and horrified. She also mentioned that she didn't see it possible that a vet did the original stitches in the first place, as the area looked so bad and not prepped for surgery at all. She ended up having to remove a little of the skin and use surgical staples. We faxed over the bill and report to Dr. Sheridan's office who only would not apologize, but would not pay for the bill, or admit fault. In fact he said (and I quote) ""The only reason we use stitches is because people don't like to see open wounds."" We were heartbroken, but at least our cat is still alive (thanks to Bees Ferry). If you are looking for a vet in the James Island/Folly Beach area and are put off by the cost of Bees Ferry, I would recommend Ohlandt.

Read Less

Read Less

Have been a customer of Tom (Sheridan) for 6 years now. He cured an ailment on my cat that 4 other vets had failed to fix, so I've used him ever since. He's taken great care of my two cats and my girlfriends retriever every time we've seen him. The staff has always been kind and helpful and the price reasonable. They've always been able to answer my questions even over the phone. Read Less

i have been taking my many avian and canine companions to dr sheridan for the past fifteen years. i am a phd educated health care clinician myself, and i have found him to be responsible, responsive, COMPETENT and CAPABLE, and COMPASSIONATE. he was acquited of ALL the charges filed against him by disgruntled employess, and the Aquarium has cleared him FULLY of any negligence in caring for the otter. i have observed that the great majority of his person and pet population are loyal and continue to take their animal companions to him. you who say otherwise are spreading rumor, falsehoods, and misinformation. We had gone to FRAH for years. My wife was heavily involved in animal rescue, so we have thrown business their way for many, many years. So it was completely disheartening for the events that unfolded the other day, to say the least. Read Less
