The folks over at Maybank treat my dog like he's a mini celeb, and he absolutely loves it there. Since I adopted my old man pug about a year ago, he's had some terrible dental issues and of course some rancid breath. They took great care of him, did a full dental, had to remove some bad teeth, and now his mouth doesn't smell like a garbage can. He's happy, I'm happy, who could complain with those results! I definitely recommend Dr Brewer and the staff at Maybank Animal Hospital. They are always friendly and above all honest. After having experienced half hearted veteranarians in the past i can assure you that not all vets are created equal. I've been going to Dr. Brewer for at least 5 years now with 3 of my cats and 2 "long term pet sit" cats. I've been there for everything from basic check ups to bladder stones, an amputated tail, a really sick cat requiring oxygen and IV fluids, ear hematomas, and a long term problematic cat who inappropriately urinates. Dr. Brewer and her staff are always amazing. They are professional, but understanding. I don't feel judged for calling with the simplest questions or for tearing up when we're doing a routine dental. We've been taking our two older dogs to Maybank Animal Hospital for over a year now for both vet visits and boarding.  We have been very pleased.  The front desk staff is outstanding - super kind and helpful and wonderful with our two dogs, one of whom is very anxious. Dr. Brewer also seems thorough and good.  She is not particularly "warm and fuzzy" - she seems more of an animal person than a people person.  But she is careful and does a good job explaining what she finds and your treatment options.  I've never felt pushed or like she was trying to oversell me, and prices are very reasonable compared to other vets. Only downside is that their computer always seems to be slow and problematic - I've come to expect a short wait while checking out.   Overall I feel very happy to have found a very good vets office.FYI, I was surprised to see the mediocre yelp reviews on Yelp until I was that Yelp is hiding 19 reviews for Maybank hospital below, and it seems almost all of them are good...  Not sure what that's about... Very RUDE both times that we've been to this place. The 1st time they sold us overpriced shampoo for my dog--worthless. Today, we tried to take in a baby squirrel orphaned by the hurricane. They were more interested in telling my wife that she hadn't spoken to any of them on the phone, telling her that we should have been feeding it squirrel milk (sorry, Harris Teeter was all out of squirrel milk) and sending us away than finding a way to help. I've heard about plenty of great vet offices in Charleston...keep looking because this isn't one of them. Read Less

I took my dog in to see about getting a rash checked on her stomach. At the end of the appointment I was left to believe my dog was pregnant even though I knew it was impossible. They charged me almost $100 for a radiograph that didn't even show she was pregnant but yet I was still told she was surely pregnant and Dr. Harper made me listen to a heartbeat with a Doppler. I even asked if there was any way it could be her heartbeat and was told no. Long story short I took her to be spayed a week later at a low cost clinic and found out she was absolutely not pregnant. I left this place with false information about my dog and a very expensive bill. I sent an email letting them know how they were wrong about her being pregnant when I found out the truth and didn't even receive an apology. How insulting. Please go to someone with more experience! Don't go see Dr. Harper unless you want to get told lies about your dog. She told me my dog was pregnant and I ended up getting her spayed and she was NOT pregnant. I let them know what I found out and hardly got even an apology. Sad. Read Less

I am so impressed with their acumen and the level of care my pets get as well as the amount of time they devote to ensuring I understand the potential issues my pets face. I've had many dogs throughout the years and have dealt with several wonderful veterinarians. About a year and a half ago, I adopted two rescues. Zeva, a Pit mix who is the sweetest little girl and a 4 month old Lab mix puppy (Ryker) who was found abandoned at 3 weeks old. Clearly he had a traumatic start in life. He has severe hip dysplasia, aggression issues and most recently, an intestinal blockage from something he ingested. Ryker has proven to be a challenge with his health and behavioral issues at times but we love him. He had seen 3 other vets as a puppy. It was Dr. Brewer who found the hip problem and we now have him on medications to help ease his pain as well as another to help keep the overly aggressive behaviour at bay. Dr. Brewer and her staff spent all day with him yesterday treating a life threatening bowel obstruction, watching him closely and calling me throughout the day to give updates. Today on their day off they came back to the office to x ray Ryker again to see if there had been any progress. I'd venture to say most other vets would have just referred us to an emergency vet instead of giving up their day off. The staff at Maybank Animal Hospital really does go above and beyond in my opinion. Dr. Brewer and her staff are phenomenal people! They truly care for not only our pets but for us too. Read Less

I have 2 dogs....both with special needs.  Upon arriving for our first visit, they were greeted by the staff, as they should be since they are the clients.  Once in the exam room, the staff....including the doctor got on the floor with the dogs instead of standing or sitting in a chair.  This made my dogs feel comfortable and welcome.  The staff is really good about calling to remind me of any appointments and they always call following up after the appointment to see if I have any further questions or concerns.  I love this place!!! Such a nice staff! They honestly care about your animals AND you. They have gone above and beyond every time I have been in there (a lot lately with a sick cat). Their prices are competitive and best of all, they are opened on Saturday AND Sunday...until 4PM. Lots of vets are opened until noon on Saturday, but knowing if I had a weekend pet emergency and they would be opened is really comforting (for my emotional state and my wallet). Read Less
