Being the owners of a bearded dragon and given that few animal hospitals see exotic animals in the immediate area, when we found out about Southern Paws and Dr. Lail, we were excited. We saw Dr. Lail on 3/5/18 and are more than happy with the overall experience. She was very knowledgeable about bearded dragons (she has one herself and explained it is a passion of hers) and took her time to not only examine him, but also to listen to us and our concerns and answered questions fully. She even went a step above and called the next day to check on how he was doing! We will definitely be using Southern Paws in the future! Read Less

This review is little past due, we used Southern Paws in August 2017. They helped us out when we were in the last days with our 14 year old lab. We had a primary vet who had cared for our guy for his entire life but when it came time to let him go the doctor (not Southern Paws) wasn’t willing to do it at our house which we felt would be the most comfortable location due to his anxiety and seizures. I called everywhere and Southern Paws was willing to come to our home and arrange everything! The circumstances as you can imagine were not easy by any means but Dr Hill’s manners were soothing and helpful, she even made an impression of his paw print while there. We were highly impressed with the company they coordinated with to take him away for cremation as we requested. The gentleman was waiting outside when we were ready. Letting your fur baby go is extremely difficult but they handled everything with such professionalism even when we stopped by the office to pick up his box and imprint. The office staff was kind and considerate and we will most certainly be using them as our vet when the time comes to get another dog in our family. Thank you!!! Read Less

This vet is about 45 min drive from my home, but we continue to bring our dog here because the vets are wonderful. Very observant. They followed up on something my Vet in Illinois never took the time to in the 15 years I went to them. One visit prompted the vets at Southern Paws to request more records from our vet in Illinois and ultimately let to diagnosis that our vet in Illinois should have at least suspected! Worth the drive! What a great veterinarian & grooming company! Everyone in the office from the front desk staff to the owner herself are all so friendly, patient, and helpful. We had our cat groomed there and they did a great job! And, it's not easy to find a location that provides grooming services for cats. But, more importantly, they so patiently helped us with the process of getting health certificates / passports for both our cat and dog. My husband and I recently moved to the UK from the US and let me just tell you the USDA does NOT make the process easy! The state veterinarian at the USDA office in Colombia gave us all the wrong information and when we arrived to get approval & signature (a 2 hour drive mind you) we were told that the wrong form had been used even though we used the form that they told us to use (go figure, right?!). Anyway, the staff at Southern Paws Animal Hospital were all extremely patient and helpful. After four vet visits and having to fill out all the paperwork yet again with the "correct" form we FINALLY got it all straitened out. I love this place!!! My cocker spaniel Beans, was plague with eye infections and itchy skin. He was on a medicine for his eyes (that he will have to take everyday for the rest of his life), but the eye infections kept coming back and it seemed to bother him really bad every time I gave him his eye drops. This was breaking my heart... so I came to Dr. Hill and expressed my concerns. She asked me to bring in all his prescriptions and had his previous Dr fax over his records. She let me know very quickly that the dosage was not high enough or the active ingredient was insufficient. She prescribed the proper dosage and my baby is no longer bothered my the drops or eye infections. I cannot thank her enough. Later on he started with itchy skin and she advised me to get him a allergy shot... NO more itching!!! I feel like my pup was treated as an individual and not as just another number. I praise Dr. Hill and her staff, for how knowledgeable they are, not to mention, how pleasant everyone has been to my fur-baby, as well as how they treat me. I called this morning to ask about the price of a spay/neuter, Angela informed me that it was $380-400 for a spay. I said "hmm that's high, down the street they charge $50." She said something like well I am not sure but that is our price and we will not lower the price for you and started to get mad. I never asked for the price to be lowered just wondering why places have such a difference in prices, wanted to figure it out and was taking a moment to think. She then had an attitude and told me they would not lower the price again and if I didn't need anything else, have a nice day, and hung up.I immediately called back and she answered again. I said "I know it's Monday, but your job is to be nice and answer the phones nicely and I would like to speak to your manager." Angela got heated and told me that the manager was too busy and I could email and that I had a tone.Just an awful first impression over the phone. I will not be going here. Scary! Wow. Read Less

We have switched our vet to Doctor Elizabeth Hill who owns Southern Paws.  The facility is currently located in the Harris Teeter shopping center outside the main entrance to Sun City.  It is an excellent veterinary practice for outpatient (is that right for pets?) as well as a full scale animal hospital with surgeries and overnight recovery facilities.  Being active supporters in getting the Lancaster Animal Shelter ship-shape, we met Dr. Hill and her staff.  Dr. Hill has volunteered to tend to the shelter once a week, maintains medications, vaccinations and treatments for us as well as administered them to sick animals. The do spay and neuter surgeries in the early mornings each Tuesday and Thursday.Her staff is wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable and talented.  And do they love animals!  Don't be surprised when a blue scrub attired woman comes around to pet and maybe hug and carry around your pet while you are waiting to see the vet.  Very genuine and caring.Dr. Hill is one of four or so vets in the Lancaster - York county area and is a net-worker among those professionals.  They share in work and in problem solving and if some facility is too busy they arrange to lighten the load to accommodate customers.Great people doing great work to care for our collective animals, strays or those in your homes.  Very please with Southern Paws that is in the process of building a new, larger facility with more space in Lancaster County, so stay tuned. Dr. Hill shows true compassion to the four of my seven dogs who are patients of SPH. She has worked to help find the best course of treatment for two that suffer chronic illnesses and works diligently to resolve any issues. Because SPH is convenient to my home, I first visited for a "trial" run, and have taken the smaller breed dogs to the practice ever since. They even referred us to a wonderful doctor in Charlotte to continue his care. My sweet boy would not have made it through the weekend had they not jumped right in to help!! My dog was sick the day before thanksgiving and I was searching for someone who would see her that day. I was told that they would work her in and was put on hold. At this time I got in the car and was ready to bring her. I hung up and called back because I was on hold so long. The vet answered the phone again and put me on hold again. After I was over half way to Indian land they come back on the phone to put me back on hold again. She then comes back and says that they won't see her. I wasted 20-25 minutes on the phone with th. and receive no help. I was able to get into the palmetto animal hospital in rock hill at last minute and they were terrific. Dr. Hill and the entire staff have always been so friendly, professional and helpful. They talk to and treat my puppies with respect and care. You can tell how much they love their job by how they talk to the pets, and they'll even get down on the floor if the patient is timid or scared! Dr. Hill and her WONDERFULL staff are AMAZING !! . My new puppy was sick and Dr. Hill was concerned and compassionate and she truly cares.
