I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Rauton and everyone at Johnston Animal Hospital. Even though my dog wasn’t a patient of theirs, they still let us come in the same day I called. My vet that I had gone to for years couldn’t see my dog even as a work in. They referred me to some emergency place in Northeast Columbia. Dr. Rauton did his own tests right then and I had the results before I left. He was very thorough and concerned. He explained each detail. Johnston Animal Hospital is my vet from now on!

I am a sucker for strays. A young female dog started showing signs of pregnancy after about three weeks of her rescue. I was grateful when Johnston Animal Hospital was able to get her in for a spay the day after I called for an appointment. When I called in the afternoon for a pickup time, I was told to pick her up the next morning and the price was $242. I asked several times if I could pay half at pick up and half in two weeks. I was told NO each time I asked. I arrived the next morning, gave the receptionist my check and silently waited for my dog to be returned to me. In a matter of minutes both doctors and a number of other staff entered the office area. I felt like I was being silently attacked. I stepped up to the counter to say something, and the older vet said something about them not accepting charges. It went on for a minute or so. I had already heard all of it on the phone the day before and since they already took my $242, I raised my hand in the "talk to the hand" sign. The older vet stepped closer to me, stuck his finger in my face and told me not to stick my finger in his face! They told me to leave their office and never come back. They said I should have taken the dog to the shelter. I stood there silently, very intimidated, since I'm a woman alone in my 60s being confronted by a group of people. I had already paid them so just wanted my dog. When they were finished I asked them if I could say my piece since I had to listen to theirs. I said at some point someone is going to have to answer God when He asks, Why didn't you help that older woman when I sent her to your office at Christmastime, when she was trying to help one of my lesser creatures. I said, you don't have to answer me but someone will have to answer that question truthfully. I then had to ask them at least 3 or 4 times to bring me my dog. By then I was physically shaking and stepped outside the door, with the doctor yelling we won't bring your dog out to you. It was a horrible experience and all because I simply asked if I could pay in two payments. All this time they already had my money. I walked back in to get Sugar when she was brought to lobby. After previously telling me never to come back, the two vets said she needs her stitches out in two weeks and "Merry Christmas".

I have been going to the Johnston Animal Hospital for over 15 years, Dr. Rauton and young Dr. Rauton (his son) are fabulous. Even though I have moved out of Johnston, I still travel back to vet my animals, I wouldn't trust their care to anyone else. The staff is exceptional! I have nothing but good things to say! Best Vets EVER!

Dr Rauton and his staff at the animal hospital and kennel are great. I've had pets for 30 years and this is the very best facility I have used. My dog gets great care and I feel very comfortable leaving him in the kennel. Dr Rauton is a great vet but is also practical. He will offer you all the options but doesn't try to push you into an expensive surgery or treatment that has little chance of succeeding. If you're looking for a vet you can trust, this one is for you.

My dog gets great care and I feel very comfortable leaving him in the kennel. Dr Rauton is a great vet but is also practical.
