Today was probably one of the hardest & worst days of my life. My sweet baby Finnley has been sick for about 3 weeks & has been to this vet 3 times for the issue. He has gone here for the last 8 years & has always been very healthy. He is 9 & has had severe pancreatitis 3 times & this last time was the absolute worst. Last night he started throwing up straight blood & crying inconsolably. I took him in this morning because I know there is nothing more that could be done & he was in severe pain. His little tummy was so bloated, he couldn't stand, & hasn't eaten in 5 days & only drank a little bit yesterday. When I got to the office I was told that the vet that had only seen him one other time would not euthanize him because she felt there were other options for him. I am an RN, I delivered Finnley, I have been with him EVERY SINGLE day of his life since he was born. For someone who knows nothing about me or Finn to say that I wasn't doing what was best for him shattered my heart. She wouldn't even talk to me, she sent a vet tech to tell me this. I took him to The Animal Hospital of N. Charleston & Dr. Ingrim was beyond amazing. She could tell by looking at Finn that he was in pain & that his little belly was 3 times the size it should be. She was astonished that a vet had told me I wasn't doing enough for him. What the vet, Dr. Smith at Banfield wanted was for me to spend copious amounts of money on tests & meds that were not going to help him & would result in him being euthanized anyway. I love Finnley with every fiber of my body & I would do anything & have always done right by him. Keeping him doped up & not knowing if he was comfortable would have been the most selfish thing I could have ever done for him. I didn't want to lose my baby or ever have to say goodbye to him, but it was the humane thing to do. No one should be made to feel like a monster for advocating for their family member & that is exactly what the dr did. Please consider other options than this place. The Animal Hospital of N. Recently brought one of my dogs to establish care there and had a great experience with the front staff and the Vet. Scheduled her for a dental cleaning and had a fantastic outcome. My other dog self-injured herself so after my terrible experience one night at the emegency clinic I came back to Banfield and had her checked out there for the first time and had another great experience. Have came encounter with several staff members and two of the Veterinarian's in the past month and have had wonderfuls experiences each time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND BANFIELD IN SUMMERVILLE! Read Less

I am looking for a new vet services provider and decided to check out this place. My vet overdosed my cat with the vaccine and made her very sick. I just wanted to ask a few questions, brought the paper work, I needed a professional take a look at it, maybe explain to me better what happened. It would take less than 5 minutes. I like to investigate a little bit about the place before I start using their services because I want to have a good experience with them in the future. I explained briefly my matter to the front desk girl. Instead of answering my questions she started preaching to me about the shots they give to the cats there. I said that I know what shots I can get, it's not the first cat I own. After this she went inside to talk to the vet. The vet said that to answer my questions I have to make a wellness visit. My cat already had all the tests and checkups done, I came just to talk. This place is money hungry, they won't even talk to you for free. I have three pets and I am a very loyal customer, I don't mind to pay extra when it's necessary. This place will never have my business because all they want is money. I am looking for a new vet services provider and decided to check this place out. My vet overdosed my cat and made her very sick. I just wanted to ask a couple questions, brought the paperwork with me, I needed a professional to help me understand better what happened. I like to investigate some about the business before I start using the services because I want to have a good experience in the future. All this would take less than 5 minutes. I explained my matter briefly to the front desk girl and instead of answering my questions she started preaching to me what shots my cat can get at their hospital. Well I said that I already know all this basic stuff, I just wanted their vet to give me a couple minutes before I decided if I wanted to be their customer. My cat just had all the tests and checkups done, they wanted me to pay them just for talking to me? It's a very money hungry company. I feel the quality of care here is good. The vets and the front desk staff and the vet techs are wonderful. But I do no like nor do I understand why it takes so long to process your pet in. I get that your doctor needs to take her time and fully examine your pet. There is no reason to have to spend more that 15 minutes per person just to check in and do paperwork. The lines can get ridiculously long. And this is WITH an appointment. If the company could figure out how to make this more efficient, I would give this place more stars. But the long wait happens every single time and it is incredibly frustrating.
I am standing in line right now for an 8 o’clock appt and I have been here for 20 mins and I am still waiting when I was only the third person in line and they have two techs processing people in. I also notice that each question they ask to enter in the computer, requires about three to four minutes each and several clicks while we both wait on the software to do something. Then there is some reason to walk back and forth doing something with the paperwork. Then they ask you to sit and you just wait. There are times when the wait is short and others where the wait is very very long.
On drop off days, when they do a comprehensive exam, I get a call around 4 and I’m told my dog is ready and I can come get her. I arrive at about 430 and I still wait for all the same length of time to just tell the front desk that I am here to pick my dog up. Then I’m told to wait again while more paperwork is done and the dr comes to talk to me. Why not have all this stuff prepared and just take my money, get my consult with the dr and give me my dog. There is a 45 minute wait before any of that even happens.
When you check out you have more questions, and if medication is going required, that is another 20 minutes of the tech passing back and forth again.
If you require prescription food, you cant buy it from them, you have the second opportunity to wait in another line as a petsmart customer. And this is if you are lucky enough to find it in stock. At which point you better have your prescription card because they won’t sell it to you without it. And your pet perks loyalty card doesn’t store any of that, which is really stupid. Why not allow prescriptions to be stored on that card?
Then at checkout, you get about 5 to 10 full sheets of paper with information that could be consolidated on to one single sheet.
The only reason I continue to drive across town to visit this Banfield is because I love love love Dr Campbell, Dr Burgette and Dr Carter and the techs and front desk personnel that are so great with my pets. In fact I wish I could review the company processes separately from the care providers there.
The regular visit prices are okay and the well care plan is a good idea. The company could benefit from an analysis of the check In check out process and more efficient software. Read Less

While I was waiting I witnessed three pissed off pet owners come in to complain about the (lack of) treatment their pets received, and one woman explained in detail how her pet had been misdiagnosed and almost died. Upon attempting to check in, I was informed they had no one that could help and sew her up. There were 3 vets there at the time. I was told they were booked with regular appts. I have been using Banfield for 5 years, since moving here from Memphis, TN. The day before hurricane Matthew hit, my 19 year old cat was unable to get up or use his hind legs. I called Banfield and they told me to bring him right away. When I arrived, they brought me to a room within minutes and the vet came in to check my cat. Unfortunately and as expected, my car would not be coming back home with me. The vet and her tech told me to take as long as I needed to say good-bye. I didn't want my cat to suffer any longer so I asked that they do what they needed to do for him. I said my goodbyes and they allowed me to take him home and bury him. Our regular vet is closed on Sunday and we had a very sick older dog. We knew when we took her to Banfield that it was likely we would be leaving without her. That was definitely the case. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, every single person showed us compassion, and they truly listened to us. Our dog was 14 1/2 years old and had been in declining health. Many times, places like Banfield and emergency pet clinics work to save a pet's life, and the client ends up spending a small fortune. In this case, I let them know up front that the dog had been in declining health, I had her health records with me, and I asked them to conduct triage but not to conduct any life saving measures without consulting me. The doctors and vet tech both agreed that it was time to say goodbye. They gave us privacy and let us spend some time saying goodbye to our girl in our way. I know that Banfield can have some logistical issues (check in, wait times, etc.), but I'm willing to overlook all of those things when I consider the way they treated my baby and the way they treated us. If quality pet care is your goal, I think you'll find that, in the end, the logistics don't really matter. I'd give Banfield a chance. When you do, focus on the quality of care. Read Less

So here is my dilemma. I used to rave about this location. I love the vets and the nurses are amazing. However, they arbitrarily changed their policy and are very resistant to walk in clients. I understand that a normal vet does not allow same day appointments, and this is why I choose to go with Banfield because they do allow walk ins. When I am polite and call ahead to see what time works best for them so that I am not just "walking in" they push back and tell me that I can go to the emergency hospital. I pay over $1000 a year to Banfield for all 3 of my animals to be on their Banfield plan. If you add in all the other services that I pay for I spend closer to $2000 a year. I refuse to pay more money to the emergency hospital when I am already paying thousands to Banfield. This is completely ridiculous! Read Less

We unfortunately had the sad task of putting down our beloved Frisky after 15yrs of life. Dr Carter was there to help us through that difficult time an she walked us through the process with much compassion and professionalism. Dr Pettay and Dr Carter have also helped us on numerous occassion's when our dog,Rocky has issues with seasonal allergies. They know just what to do to get him back to his normal self and feeling better. If you are looking for great vets,this is the place to go. The low monthly payment makes it possible to afford neutering as well as all the vaccinations and de-worming required especially during the first year. I also have had to bring him in twice outside of preventive care and have not had to pay anything except for his medications. The wellness plan is well worth the peace of mind it gives and the doctors and all staff we have dealt with have always been incredibly kind and professional. Wouldn't take my fur baby anywhere else! The entire staff is professional. However, what has won us to stay is the level of care both towards pets and fur parents Banfield give. The technicians greet our furbabies at their level and always with compassion. Dr. Carter has been awesome. Our 4yr old beagle mix has been primarly under Dr. Carter's care. About a year and half ago she diagnosed her with AHIA, a blood disorder. During which Rosie flaunted with death's door twice. Dr. Carter and her staff worked with us to find ways to best treat this disease. Today Rosie is thriving and at the best of health. I can not speak more highly of Banfield. They were very accommodating and we had a consultation with the vet the very next day. Dr. Rawlings went above and beyond and answered every question I had. The day of the actual cleaning he was in the care of Dr. Carter and I was more than impressed with the level of care, consideration, and knowledge of these two doctors. The nurses were great too! Last night he started throwing up straight blood & crying inconsolably. I took him in this morning because I know there is nothing more that could be done & he was in severe pain. His little tummy was so bloated, he couldn't stand, & hasn't eaten in 5 days & only drank a little bit yesterday. When I got to the office I was told that the vet that had only seen him one other time would not euthanize him because she felt there were other options for him. I am an RN, I delivered Finnley, I have been with him EVERY SINGLE day of his life since he was born. For someone who knows nothing about me or Finn to say that I wasn't doing what was best for him shattered my heart. She wouldn't even talk to me, she sent a vet tech to tell me this. I took him to The Animal Hospital of N. Charleston & Dr. Ingrim was beyond amazing. She could tell by looking at Finn that he was in pain & that his little belly was 3 times the size it should be. She was astonished that a vet had told me I wasn't doing enough for him. What the vet, Dr. Smith at Banfield wanted was for me to spend copious amounts of money on tests & meds that were not going to help him & would result in him being euthanized anyway. I love Finnley with every fiber of my body & I would do anything & have always done right by him. Keeping him doped up & not knowing if he was comfortable would have been the most selfish thing I could have ever done for him. I didn't want to lose my baby or ever have to say goodbye to him, but it was the humane thing to do. No one should be made to feel like a monster for advocating for their family member & that is exactly what the dr did. Please consider other options than this place. The Animal Hospital of N. My other dog self-injured herself so after my terrible experience one night at the emegency clinic I came back to Banfield and had her checked out there for the first time and had another great experience. I am looking for a new vet services provider and decided to check out this place. My vet overdosed my cat with the vaccine and made her very sick. I just wanted to ask a few questions, brought the paper work, I needed a professional take a look at it, maybe explain to me better what happened. It would take less than 5 minutes. I like to investigate a little bit about the place before I start using their services because I want to have a good experience with them in the future. I explained briefly my matter to the front desk girl. Instead of answering my questions she started preaching to me about the shots they give to the cats there. I said that I know what shots I can get, it's not the first cat I own. After this she went inside to talk to the vet. The vet said that to answer my questions I have to make a wellness visit. My cat already had all the tests and checkups done, I came just to talk. This place is money hungry, they won't even talk to you for free. I have three pets and I am a very loyal customer, I don't mind to pay extra when it's necessary. This place will never have my business because all they want is money. I am looking for a new vet services provider and decided to check this place out. My vet overdosed my cat and made her very sick. I just wanted to ask a couple questions, brought the paperwork with me, I needed a professional to help me understand better what happened. I like to investigate some about the business before I start using the services because I want to have a good experience in the future. All this would take less than 5 minutes. I feel the quality of care here is good. The vets and the front desk staff and the vet techs are wonderful. But I do no like nor do I understand why it takes so long to process your pet in. I get that your doctor needs to take her time and fully examine your pet. There is no reason to have to spend more that 15 minutes per person just to check in and do paperwork. The lines can get ridiculously long. And this is WITH an appointment. If the company could figure out how to make this more efficient, I would give this place more stars. But the long wait happens every single time and it is incredibly frustrating.
I am standing in line right now for an 8 o’clock appt and I have been here for 20 mins and I am still waiting when I was only the third person in line and they have two techs processing people in. I also notice that each question they ask to enter in the computer, requires about three to four minutes each and several clicks while we both wait on the software to do something. Then there is some reason to walk back and forth doing something with the paperwork. Then they ask you to sit and you just wait. There are times when the wait is short and others where the wait is very very long.
On drop off days, when they do a comprehensive exam, I get a call around 4 and I’m told my dog is ready and I can come get her. I arrive at about 430 and I still wait for all the same length of time to just tell the front desk that I am here to pick my dog up. Then I’m told to wait again while more paperwork is done and the dr comes to talk to me. Why not have all this stuff prepared and just take my money, get my consult with the dr and give me my dog. There is a 45 minute wait before any of that even happens.
When you check out you have more questions, and if medication is going required, that is another 20 minutes of the tech passing back and forth again.
If you require prescription food, you cant buy it from them, you have the second opportunity to wait in another line as a petsmart customer. And this is if you are lucky enough to find it in stock. At which point you better have your prescription card because they won’t sell it to you without it. And your pet perks loyalty card doesn’t store any of that, which is really stupid. Why not allow prescriptions to be stored on that card?
Then at checkout, you get about 5 to 10 full sheets of paper with information that could be consolidated on to one single sheet.
The only reason I continue to drive across town to visit this Banfield is because I love love love Dr Campbell, Dr Burgette and Dr Carter and the techs and front desk personnel that are so great with my pets. In fact I wish I could review the company processes separately from the care providers there.
The regular visit prices are okay and the well care plan is a good idea. The company could benefit from an analysis of the check In check out process and more efficient software. Read Less

I called Banfield and they told me to bring him right away. When I arrived, they brought me to a room within minutes and the vet came in to check my cat. Unfortunately and as expected, my car would not be coming back home with me. The vet and her tech told me to take as long as I needed to say good-bye. I didn't want my cat to suffer any longer so I asked that they do what they needed to do for him. I said my goodbyes and they allowed me to take him home and bury him. Our regular vet is closed on Sunday and we had a very sick older dog. We knew when we took her to Banfield that it was likely we would be leaving without her. That was definitely the case. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, every single person showed us compassion, and they truly listened to us. Our dog was 14 1/2 years old and had been in declining health. Many times, places like Banfield and emergency pet clinics work to save a pet's life, and the client ends up spending a small fortune. In this case, I let them know up front that the dog had been in declining health, I had her health records with me, and I asked them to conduct triage but not to conduct any life saving measures without consulting me. The doctors and vet tech both agreed that it was time to say goodbye. They gave us privacy and let us spend some time saying goodbye to our girl in our way. I know that Banfield can have some logistical issues (check in, wait times, etc.), but I'm willing to overlook all of those things when I consider the way they treated my baby and the way they treated us. If quality pet care is your goal, I think you'll find that, in the end, the logistics don't really matter. I'd give Banfield a chance. When you do, focus on the quality of care. Read Less

So here is my dilemma. I used to rave about this location. I love the vets and the nurses are amazing. However, they arbitrarily changed their policy and are very resistant to walk in clients. I understand that a normal vet does not allow same day appointments, and this is why I choose to go with Banfield because they do allow walk ins. When I am polite and call ahead to see what time works best for them so that I am not just "walking in" they push back and tell me that I can go to the emergency hospital. I pay over $1000 a year to Banfield for all 3 of my animals to be on their Banfield plan. If you add in all the other services that I pay for I spend closer to $2000 a year. I refuse to pay more money to the emergency hospital when I am already paying thousands to Banfield. This is completely ridiculous! Read Less

Dr Carter was there to help us through that difficult time an she walked us through the process with much compassion and professionalism. Dr Pettay and Dr Carter have also helped us on numerous occassion's when our dog,Rocky has issues with seasonal allergies. I also have had to bring him in twice outside of preventive care and have not had to pay anything except for his medications. The technicians greet our furbabies at their level and always with compassion. Dr. Carter has been awesome. Our 4yr old beagle mix has been primarly under Dr. Carter's care. About a year and half ago she diagnosed her with AHIA, a blood disorder. During which Rosie flaunted with death's door twice. Dr. Carter and her staff worked with us to find ways to best treat this disease. Today Rosie is thriving and at the best of health. I can not speak more highly of Banfield. They were very accommodating and we had a consultation with the vet the very next day. Dr. Rawlings went above and beyond and answered every question I had. The day of the actual cleaning he was in the care of Dr. Carter and I was more than impressed with the level of care, consideration, and knowledge of these two doctors. The nurses were great too!
