I'm upset with them! I've spent no less than $5,000 in the last couple of years at this place. I have 3 dogs who get prescriptions for heartguard (who all weigh 1-25 lbs and take the same dosage of the meds). I got a 12 month script for one of my dog's and, OF COURSE, to save money I've split the 12 months for the 3 dogs. Now they won't fill a script for either of my other dogs without me bringing all 3 back in for heart worm checks. Trying gouge more money from me!! This is ridiculous and since I'm a responsible pet owner I will have to do their bidding, but I WILL let them know how upset I am when I bring in my babies. We take our pets to this location. The staff is extremely courteous, professional and friendly. Showed us the deepest compassion and sympathy when we have to euthanize our terminally ill kitty. We have used this location twice for the past two years for boarding our Chihuahua.  Last year after we picked him up he was peeing and pooping all over the house which is something he has not done since he was a puppy.  It took almost a month for him to stop doing it.  Just picked him up two days ago after being boarding for 10 days and he's right back to peeing a pooping in the house.  I have no idea how often the animals are allowed outside time but this is two years in a row that we have come home from vacation and had to retrain our dog.  We've used private boarding & the Pet Hotel in the past and we have never had any issues.  I'm done boarding him at PetVax.  We will just take him with us on vacation from now on. Best experience ever! I am a young college student, and a first time dog owner outside of family pets. I was very nervous taking my baby to get his shots and an exam. I haven't had this type of service in a very long time. The staff was friendly and calming. It's difficult when a person brings their pet(s) in when they aren't feeling well already; but it makes it so much better when you're dealing with pleasant people. The veterinarian was amazing!!! She took the time to assess my yorkie and tell me everything that was going on with him. Although he will have to have a procedure, they wrote up a care plan and an affordable way to pay without stressing. Absolutely love PetVax Southwind! Everyone is so friendly! I have a crazy chocolate lab and they've even offered to help me get him in and out of the car before. They always take good care of my sweet crazy boy and I love the convenience of being able to drop off for check up, vaccines, or a bath when needed. Today we took our sweet kitty to the Poplar location fearing the worst. Our vet was sweet and caring with her and helped us make the best decision for our cat. After taking her home to say our goodbyes, we brought her back and they gently helped us through our loss. Pet vax is a very good place to get your pets shots and to see the Dr when they are sick. The wait time is very reasonable. Their pricing is better than most others. The staff is very professional and courteous. They have gone way out of their way to help me when I was dealing with a problem. We take our 5 dogs there and will continue to go there.  The place is very clean and smells nice. They are up front with all their prices. We took my very scared kitty to get his shots updated, they were kind enough to quickly put us in a room away from all dogs! The room even had a sound machine that drowned out the barking in the lobby! Then an amazing technician named Megan came in and used her magical touch and made a friend out of my frightened cat! I had my cat spayed at the East Memphis location, and she was still going into heat. So I took her back in, knowing that some ovaries can be missed in cats sometimes. I just wanted them to make sure she had all of them removed. They were not willing to look at her any further than I physical exam. I took her to another vet who removed the rest of her ovaries. Even with an appointment at other veterinary offices, you often have to wait longer than you do as a walk-in at Petvax. I have been a customer of PetVax for 6 years. Every year, the prices increase while the service declines. In fact today, they didnt even have a doctor on-staff that could write prescriptions. My wife took my dog to the Southwind location so we could refill his anxiety medicine. They told him that a doctor would need to do a $50 evaluation, no problem. Then, after the exam, they hand my wife an estimate for a $170 blood test (which needs to be done before they refill the prescription). Side-stepping the necessity of this blood test, my wife declined. They would not waive the $50 fee even though they NEVER told her that the blood test was a requirement. In other words, she wouldnt have consented to a $50 charge if she knew that a $170 blood test was also needed. One of the employees explained to her that this is how medicine works. I called and spoke to the administrator, Angela about the issue. She felt that the acceptable response is to argue with me throughout the conversation, and telling me twice, sorry you feel that way. We are pulling both of our dogs from their care, and our family and friends will follow suit. I hope they enjoy that $50. Be careful of this company and their tactics.Read Less

I always receive top-notch care for my Sookie. Their prices are very reasonable compared to others in our area. We are  able to get annual exams done quickly and with no appointment. The service here is fine - if you're white. My husband and I are an interracial couple. He went in early this morning with our dog and cat and was the first person there at 8, and visits with the doctor do not start until 9. Two people came in after him, both to see the vet (not just for a shot or some other appt that can be handled by someone other than the vet) and both were seen before him even though one of them arrived 45 minutes after he did. Really unprofessional. Not to mention they charge an arm and a leg per doctor's visit and there is no option of a package deal as I've seen with other vets. Not going to be going back here. I, myself, avoid the doctor unless I absolutely have to go.  Of course my pets are my kids so I'll take them before myself IF necessary. The biggest issue for me is that prices are not up front and I don't like surprises after a bunch of tests. Give me a doctor that provides a menu of typical prices for services, and I'd feel a lot more comfortable.  This place does just that. They tell you up front that a visit with the doctor is $50 and they will consult with you on prices before running any tests. They also provide a brochure in the waiting room with a complete price list for common services including declawing, neutering, vaccinations.I took my cat here that I just adopted from the Humane Society two months ago. He suddenly started showing signs of ringworm this morning. Even though I knew what it was, the medicated shampoo and creams I need to treat it are only available when perscribed by a veterinarian (per federal law). The waiting room was clean, staff mostly friendly (one lady seemed absolutely miserable), and they consulted with me on all prices for services/products before moving forward.  I was only in the waiting room for ~30 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. The vet was great with my shy cat, making the exam as comfortable for him as possible. My visit totaled $88 with services, cream, and medicated shampoo. I'll definitely return here for his rabies booster or other future health checks. Read Less

I would give zero stars if I could. I brought two of my pets in thinking I was being a good mommy and getting their exams. They never even took their weight, no blood, urine tests or anything. I even asked about some abnormalities and the vet assured me it was nothing. I was ready to have a biopsy, they said not to worry. A few months later I took both pets to another vet and found that the spots I had been concerned with were cancerous and had them removed immediately. My other cat wasn't so lucky, it turned out he had cancer as well, in his throat, and died a few months later after I spent a few thousand dollars on surgery at another vet, not to mention the trauma my baby went through for weeks after surgery.If Pet Vax had only checked his weight and simply opened his mouth to check teeth and breath it could have alerted us in time to possibly save him. Bottom line, don't go here for vet visits. They provide good spaying and neutering services, otherwise AVOID this place!!! Read Less

PetVax staff and vets have all been so sweet and helpful since the first time we took our new kitten in for the first check-up & shots! Prices are cheaper than most a well. When my kitten got fixed and declawed, they called when he was out of surgery, before they went home for the night, and in the morning to keep me updated on how he was doing! They also did a free consultation visit about a week later to recheck of his one paw, because he kept pulling the stiches out! The only downfall for me is the hours, it is hard to be there to pick up my furbaby by 6pm when I get off work and hit all the rush hour traffic...but there is no way I'd take my pets anywhere else!! I took my dog here, and they told me he tested positive for heartworms and quoted me $800 for the treatment. I then went to Bercair Animal Hospital, they retested him, and it came back SO light positive that they deemed it was from his whipworms and not heartworms at all. I am going to treat him with Heartguard to get rid of the whipworms and the vet thinks his next hw test will be completely negative. They also quoted me only $490 for the treatment and the vet was much more knowledgeable and much nicer! If I hadn't gone to Berclair, Samuel would have had to go through a very long and very painful series of treatments for a condition he very possibly does not even have. No one at PetVax even thought to mention to me the correlation between the hw and whipworms, even though they knew he was positive for both. DO NOT GO HERE!
