I love this vet. They are all very knowledgeable and friendly. They declawed our cat and answered all of our questions first. The prices for their services are very fair. When we got our car declawed he started bleeding as soon as we brought him home. We rushed him back and they kept him overnight for observation at no charge to us. The administration/receptionist staff was very attentive, friendly, and organized. They even wanted to know how my guinea pig's checkup went while we were rescheduling. Everyone we met took care of us and put us to ease despite the scary circumstance. Our vet tech was an absolute sweetheart and handled my little one gently compared to others at different vet clinics--she treated him like he was her very own. Dr. Thomas is a life-saver. I could tell that she definitely knows about exotic pets like guinea pigs, and it was assuring when she told me she had one that lived to be 9 years old! Most importantly, she confirmed my pet's symptoms and gave us appropriate, safe treatments. The other vet I had visited earlier in the week almost killed my baby with an ignorant treatment plan, and when I tried to call and nicely explain that I didn't feel comfortable giving my guinea what he prescribed because it was toxic, he tried to argue with me about how he was right. Dr. Thomas told me that I did the right thing, and from her treatment, he is already starting to improve. We arrived thinking we were going to lose him, but left with a new hope and determination. I am so, so thankful we discovered Appalachian Animal Clinic just in time. I will recommend this place to everyone I know and never see another vet in this area besides Dr. Thomas. Absolutely wonderful Animal Clinic! I had an emergency with my pups eye and they fit us in same day no questions asked and we were not existing clients at the time either. They treated him so very gentle, loving and sweet and even followed up on him the next few days and helped us out when we had problems getting one of his scripts filled at a local pharmacy. not sure if want to go there anymore. the lady at the front desk was not very kind one time afters years of me going and bringing other animals to be fixed. I went to pic up cat to find out price was not the same any more went up only had 100 dollars price 118 and she would not bill me or let me take cat home till I had 18 dollars more and it was closing time. it seems money is all they care about. also a few years before my mom took her dog there 7 yrs old told she should get her teeth cleaned to keep her healthy. so my mom paid for the cleaning and bloodwork just to pick her up with her neck filled with fluid and was told she was still coming out from surgery. she died that night. and all they had to say is she was old and maybe allergic to anast. they should have never let the dog go home with all that lump of fluid on her. my mom was old and devastated. I have been taking my pets to Appalachian for over 15 years, they are always very friendly and kind. Recently my 17 week old English Bulldog came down with Parvo. After 2 days of trying to make sure he stayed hydrated, with little success, I decided to let the vet keep him. The Staff was wonderful, treated Smalls like a king. He was so very sick and I did not think he would make it. After 3 days at the vet, he was eating and doing better . I live in Dalton, GA but drive 45 minutes to Appalachian because of the kind of care they offer to my Babies. I will not take them anywhere else. have taken all my babys there since I moved here, but lately it seems that they are more interested in the money than they are my babys, I have one which has a major problem and she will not be going to this place, last time they had to muzzle every one of them and was so tight they could hardly breath, when I asked about this they said it was normal to keep from being bitten, used to be I could hold my babys and they were fine now have to all but hog tie them before the damn vet will even see then for anything. done with this place Read Less

My family & I live very close to Appalachin, as to why we have used them a few times, & every single time we have had a terrible experience. We have had 2 dogs that had illnesses that were misdiagnosed by them & ended up dying because of. Also, they were rude & nobody that worked there acted like they cared about our animals at all except for a front desk receptionist.....they are EXTREMELY overpriced & lazy when it comes to the care of our animals. After spending thousands there for pretty much basic needs for our animals & 2 of them dying because of this place, we will never step foot in it again & I highly recommend you don't either! I don't have a single good thing to say about it. We live 2 miles from here & drive 25 minutes to a different vet due to the lack of concern, terrible attitudes & overpriced services. Do not ever board your animal here!!! We dropped our small dog off Friday to board over the weekend and have her nails trimmed. When we picked her up Monday they handed her to my husband and sd no problems but when we put her down she was not using her back leg at all when we asked what happened they sd nothing she was like that when you brought her in... Seriously!!! After pitching a fit they agreed to examine her and sd nothing was broken she was fine and gave her some pain medicine. I felt completely betrayed that we paid to board her for them to take good care of our baby and they hurt her and then blame it on us and take no responsibility. We took her to another vet and turns out she had major trauma to her hip and back leg and will possibly have to have surgery to put a pin in and has been in a cast every since. The way they handled this is the most upsetting, if they would have called and sd we are sorry there was an a accident or she accidentally fell off when trimming her nails or something and they apologized then fixed her this would be different. But to blame the problem on us and take no responsibility is not acceptable! We have been taking her here since she was a baby and never had any problems before. They sd the people who walk the dogs on Saturday noted in her chart. Well what the Heck happened to her????Again we will never use them again! Read Less

Left our dog to be boarded over the weekend when we picked her up she was hurt and would not use her back leg at all. I moved here from Chicago n found this vet when my Max got sick 4 years ago... they have been like family with my babies... with getting Max well to check ups on 2 new puppies, a rescue dog n even helping me get though Max going over the rainbow bridge. We have had a wonderful experience with this office. During very difficult times when two of our beloved furbabies crossed the bridge very close together; they were there for me. Gentle and kind, soft in attitude and helpful. My 12 year old Chihuahua had a dental and testing, she came home without bad breath for the fist time!!! Always liked this clinic and Dr. Hootenhuff, but now he's changed his hours and my work schedule makes it almost impossible to see him. Also, I got my dog's ears cropped in January. The service was top notch, and I am extremely pleased with how they turned out. Recently, I took another puppy for an ear crop, and it cost me over $100 more than the first one. I got my dog microchipped with Home Again services. This vet office told me that they covered the first year of service with Home Again, and after that first year that Home Again would send me a renewal notice. Well I just got off the phone with Home Again because there was an issue with my enrollment. They told me no fee was paid and if I wanted my dog listed in the system that I needed to pay $19.99. I paid $51.75 for them to put a microchip in my dog that I cannot register with home again without paying an additional fee. That is some BS! I am not happy at all. Read Less

We have been going to this wonderful place for the almost 7 yrs. now. They have seen & treated our family. Daisy, Sarge, Isabella, Fiona, & now Snowball. They treat them like their very own. They have smiled, laughed. & even cried as we had to put Fiona down our cat. When our 2 dogs go in there for a check up or even for the wknd. stay they always go right inside with no problems. We LOVE the staff and doctors here. We got a puppy from the pound and they have been great. If we have a question we just call. They clip her nails every month. I am allergic to the flea and heart worm treatment. We bring her in and they put it on her for free for me. Also every time her nails get clipped they spray her with a great smelling spray. I have used appalacian for years for all of our pets. Almost every time I go I say I am not going back. The receptionist are indeed rude. There is 1 female doctor that is nice there out of everyone. She seems to really like animals and people. Everyone else acts like snobs and are extremely rude most of the time. I havent been in several months but I was telling my brother about taking my dog to petco to get her nails trimmed and they ask for vet records I said I didnt know I needed to bring them as they have never ask for them before but I told them I used appalacian and they called while I waited the receptionist told petco that i had several pets on my account but not this peticular one and that sugar had never been there. What an outright lie. Sugar has been there on 4 or 5 different occasions for puppy shots when we first got her. Then my brother said he took his rescue cat recently to get some feline blood test and nails trimmed at cost of 90 something dollars. My brother is disabiled and has very limited income. So that was hard but he paid. Then he ask about the cost of flea collars and they told him it would be 76 dollars for one flea collar that last 8 months. The rude receptionist said to my brother " DO YOU WANT 5 OF THOSE" really? she knew he was struggling to pay the 90 something already. How rude can you be. I will go elsewhere from now on. I deal with the public everyday as a nurse and I am appauled that they can act this way toward their customers. Read Less

Do not use this clinic if you care anything about your pet! Especially, if it is serious enough for surgery and overnight observation . My dog had a very serious abdominal surgery and I was told that they wanted to keep her there overnight to observe her. No one stayed overnight with her to watch her and she died alone because she stopped breathing and no one was there to help her. I was told by the owner that he couldn t be sure when she actually die but she was found dead when one of the girls came in at 7:30 to open up . DO NOT USE THESE CREEPS!!!! Took my dog in and it turns out she needed surgery. They did on a Friday night, removing some small intestines, and opening her stomach. They finished by 6PM and left my dog alone. I was advised her condition was critical and she needed to be under watch for the weekend. I was advised the next day that when a tech came in to feed them at 730 she was dead. No one was there w/ a "Critical" dog. The bill total was about $750. I paid the $250 deposit and advised them I could pay $200 on Monday and the remaining balance on Friday. They WOULD NOT let me have my dog's remains until the balance was paid IN FULL. I brought my cats there to be groomed and 2 vaccines. I got totally snubbed by the woman who called herself a professional groomer(NOT) and acted like she was above me. The grooming service provided I wondered ever happened because my kitties looked and smelled the same as when I brought them in and the charge was double to what I've paid in the past! The worst was when I got home and they started sneezing. I've brought my kitties numerous groomers over the past 9+ years in different states and they NEVER got sick! After a very upsetting phone call from a very uncaring receptionist with a 'whatever' attitude Dr. Huttenhoff called me and agreed to see them. I have taken all my babies here for years. The staff is great never had them be rude or anything to me. If I wait its no more than 10th mins. I had a puppy get pollo and they done everything they absolutly could for him. But sadly he didn't make it. I went to the register to pay big bucks but they told me no that since he didn't make it I didn't have to pay. I know a lot of vets do still make you pay bc I've went out and asked.
