A few years ago, my family and I brought our cat here and they did absolutely nothing to help him; however, they had offered to put down but we refused. He died around a week later because they didn't want to do what they are paid to do. P.s. they are money hungry, so I recommend taking your pets somewhere affordable. So long review short, if you love your pets, please, for the love of God, send your pets somewhere else. Read Less

Our nearly 9 year old Cairn terrier, Sadie, became suddenly deathly ill one morning in April 2018 with Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA). When we arrived at MVS that morning her red blood cells were at 5% and she was very near death. Our regular vet called ahead and the staff met me at the car and took her straight in and began to treat her. During those first days the staff encouraged us to visit Sadie and we did several times a day. We were allowed to have private time with her and the staff even came outside with us to set up a picnic for Sadie to encourage her to eat. The survival rate for this condition is very low. After only 3 days she was ready to come home, much improved and with a long medication regimen to be followed for the next few months. Dr. Peter Bondy and his WONDERFUL staff have treated our baby as if she was their own. I can't praise this staff, team of doctors and nurses enough for making sure that we understood this horrible condition and giving us the chance to have our precious baby girl with us for many more years. Sadie still has a long way to go and we are guarded that this could occur again, but with Dr. Bondy's vigilance, her red blood cell count was 50% yesterday, only 4 weeks after the onset of this terrible condition. Sadie is running, jumping and playing again! I can never thank this wonderful hospital enough for giving us our baby girl back! If not for them, she would not have been alive but a few more minutes. I am crying tears of joy now! I thank God for this wonderful place and I highly recommend MVS and these wonderful, caring and knowledgeable Veterinary Specialists! Read Less

In February was sent from Little Rock for emergency back surgery for my dog who was unable to walk. It was initially thought to be a herniated disc but turned out to be a tumor. Dr. Maxwell and his staff were so attentive and understanding to me and my dog. I couldn't have asked for a better team from the front desk to the nurses and anesthesia department to care for my dog during her stay. His staff quickly got us a referral to radiation oncology and she is now almost two months out and is happily running in the yard. We are lucky to have such a great resource so close to us. I wish I could remember the names of everyone who cared for my dog (and me), during this extremely stressful time to thank them individually. Read Less

These guys took really good care of Eevee when she had to get eye surgery. We actually ended up doing two in one since one issue may have been aggravating the other. To be honest, we wouldn't have ever thought to have surgery for her eye leaking until she started scratching at her eyes. They were able to determine she had some eyelashes poking her in the eye as they grew in the wrong way. They also were able to close her eyes a little so they wouldn't leak as much and possibly be a second reason she was scratching. Everyone here was really cool and helpful and answered all my questions. I would totally take Eevee back if need be but I really hope I don't need to at least for a long while! Read Less

I spent a long weekend with my eleven-year old hairy child at PetMed.  The facility was nice, clean, and inviting. Fortunately his was not as serious of an emergency as some others, but they treated him with as much love and care as they did those with more traumatic issues.  The doctors were patient, and willing and able to explain everything so that we understood exactly what was happening.  Even with leaving my best friend there overnight, the nurses were always happy to give us a quick status check over the phone when we called.  I hope that I never have to return, but if it does happen then I feel confident in the care we will all receive. We very disappointed in Memphis Veterinary Specialists from the check-in to the pick-up of my dog. The costs are astronomical as well. The woman at the front desk was rude upon check-in and was only concerned with getting our credit card. The procedure took about 6 hours longer as they took in other animals ahead of our dog even though we had an appointment. We had to have the dog there at 0700 in the morning to sit in a crate all day. The exam and follow up of an over $1,000 procedure was absolutely unacceptable. Sadly, no other vets in town have some of their specialized equipment so this is your only option. I will consider driving to Nashville in the future. I cannot imagine returning to this facility. Let me start by saying I have a fantastic vet who usually will open his office after hours for his patients but on this 1 particular night he was needed, he was away delivering baby cows.i had no choice but to use Pet Med emergency for my sweet puppy who had got knocked in the head by a front end loader of a tractor after he ran under it when no one saw him. The emergency vet charged us $600 for tests that would have cost $200 or less at a regular vet. Then they said it would be at least another $1800 to attempt to save him. Or I should have him put down. Not having the extra money, I had no choice but to put him down, also for another additional fee. I'm certain if my vet had been available, my dog would still be here with me today at a cost that I could have afforded. These people feed off of hurting and distraught pet owners and jack the prices up to some ridiculous amount because the pet owner has no other choice . Read Less

I'm giving this review two stars instead of one due to Dr. Moore who did my dogs first intake visit and seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about steps to take to try and get my dog better. I spoke with Dr. Moore a couple of times after my dogs release then somehow I was switched to Dr. Baylis(so?) who hasn't been very impressive. Our dog was finally "diagnosed" with ibs after a few thousand dollars and (excluding the costs of the multiple ineffective prescriptions) she was placed on prescription diet. We were told we'd be called on a Wednesday with blood work results--- that following Monday I called to get an update. I was told the results had in fact came in on Wednesday, I was just never called back. I was told I'd be called later that day so doctor could read test results. That call finally came the next afternoon. My dog was stable, but not better, for 2 months. Approximately once every 2-3 weeks I'd call and tell them she was severely sick, not eating or drinking for days. Each time I'd be told she must've eaten something outside her diet and we'd be given nausea meds or a new steroid. I tried telling Dr. Baylis(sp?) that I didn't understand how her possibly eating food outside her diet put her on her death bed for weeks on end. Then I was told she may have eaten a toy, to take her to her primary vet for X-rays. Another waste of $, which We knew when we took her. We had to take her back to her vet today bc yet again she hasn't eaten in days. Vet has us take her back to mvs bc she's leaking blood into her gi tract..... so much so that she is at the moment receiving a blood transfusion--- on the way to mvs with my deathly I'll dog I receive a call from mvs urging me to wait on bringing her bc they are about to start SHIFT CHANGE!!! Please pray my dog survives the night there. Hopefully they will have to at the VERY LEAST accept the fact that their ibs diagnosis isn't all that's wrong with my dog!!!!! Trust me, your local vet has a better chance than curing your sick animal!! PLEASE BEWARE!Read Less

Absolutely excellent care. We had a very sick kitty. They took wonderful care of him. The vet explained her concerns and gave us a clear estimate of charges before they started care. Osiris, my cat, was well cared for the entire time he was there. We had to return at midnight a few nights later due to an issue with his IV that our regular vet had left in. They quickly removed it and let us know that the swelling should go down in a few hours and to return if it didn't. For this visit they only charged us for a nurse visit and saved us a bunch of money.PROS - Excellent, professional care. Knowledgeable, caring, competent staff. Estimates that keep you in the know.CONS - None.GOOD TO KNOW - Emergency care can be very expensive, more than your regular vet. PetMed was happy to provide us with a comprehensive estimate.BOTTOM LINE - My first and only choice for emergency vet care in the Memphis area. Read Less

They were transparent about everything from their initial assessment of his condition to how long it would take to see the vet on what was a very busy night for them. Most importantly, I could tell they all genuinely cared about my pup, and they made sure he was calm and comfortable. Had to write this review as spent 2 visits n couple nites to petvet er,between 2 visits to 2 different day vets.pet vet was outstanding and but waste of money going to day vet. First visit,dr s.mays was exceptional, very understanding, caring. David,at front desk, greeted us both times, very nice caring, young gentleman. Our 18 yr old dog, raider had low sugar problems and couldnt get right levels. Having pains, hard time walkin, not eating much, running into things, confused. We saw dr.amy walsh 2nd visit. She was a the determanating factor that helped my son make the right decision for his best friend of 18yrs. My son did everything imaginable to give raider the best life and promise not to let him hurt. Dr.walsh spent time telling us other factors that seemed to be making him hurt, brain tumor on top of bad diabetes and tumor made him blind, which we didnt no.They could run test but at his age, more things could be worse. She left us alone to talk and said take our time and answered every question we had, softly, caring, compassionatly. This young lady had such grace. It was hard but she let us see the reality best for our precious pet.And this unconditional loving sweet raider deserved no pain ever again. She explained procedure and it went exactly the way she said. We were taken to a quiet room, david brought raider to my son in blanket for us to spend as much time with him,dr.walsh came in,ask if needed more time, told us each step. He didnt cry or hurt anymore,he was at peace. Gave us more time with him and then he became a real angel n heaven. This was absolutely the place for a loved pet that needed final rest for his good long life. This environment, staff, doctors made this unthinkable process one u never want but has to come,a bit easier to handle if possible. Our thoughts of ur sincere kindness is still so fresh n our hearts. This review is not for the doctors as I see the dermatologist and she's super nice. They have a receptionist that I've never seen before with purple hair who's extremely rude. I came once and I was minding my own business and listening to her answer the phone and she was so rude to the people. I thought "you work at a vet not in a human hospital why are you so bitter?"Then had to deal with her personally the other day. I talked to someone on the phone before I went and I told my fiancé I bet it's that chick w purple hair because she was so rude on the phone, AND I WAS RIGHT. I know they are busy, it's a holiday, but she could have at least gotten my name when I came to the front desk. That's all it would have take but she didn't and ignored me three times because I didn't have an emergency. So I told her she's rude and not just to me but other people. One of the ladies who helped me told me that purple hair lady recently lost a friend and maybe that's why she's not In Good mood. I told her I'm sorry to hear that but I was there a month before and she was rude then too.I was never that rude to people when I worked as a nurse in the ER, Downtown. Read Less

Our dog had been ill for awhile and we had gone to 2 different vets and received two different diagnoses, neither of which seemed to help much. Over a holiday weekend he became so listless that i felt we had to take him to an emergency facility. I had previously used one of the specialists at the Trinity Creek facility  and was most impressed. I was not familiar with any other emergency facilites so we decided to take our dog there. I am sure they are a good facility and i do believe my dog was well cared for during the 1-1/2 days he was there. He did have a serious blood  illness - one that is often fatal for dogs. They did the necessary tests fairly quick and DID come up with the right diagnosis - which the other vets had not done. I knew the treatment would be expensive. However - there is expensive - and there is "gouging". The first price we were quoted was for the necessary diagnosis tests. Several hundred dollars but we agreed. The second price quoted was for treatment for 1-1/2 days ( this was a saturday night on a holiday weekend). We were given an estimated  range of costs - the lower figure was for everything they told us they would absolutely have to do - the range would ultimately depend on anything else they MIGHT have to do. We were given a pitch that I felt was akin to that of a snake oil saleman - yes my pet was seriously ili and they were all complications that might have happened. But I felt they were delivered in a manner that took advantage of people who were already very scared about what might be happening  to their pet so they would agree to the costs. We were told we had to pay up front 50% of the highest possible estimated cost. In our case that was $1200 . the "range" we were given was between $1500 - $2400. Our dog was there from Saturday night until early Monday morning.During that time we were kept well informed. Each doctor would call at the end of their shift to give us an update. Ultimately our dog did not need any of the extra services that we were told might be necessary ( which included the possibility of a blood transfusion). So I at least felt confident that when my  spouse went to pick him up the bill would be the lowest amount of the range we were given. But we  were actually charged an additional $750 at the time of pickup - with no explanation or documentation for why. Later it occurred to me it was probably the cost of the hospital stay plus the original price quoted for diagnostics. However, you are definitely led to believe that is included in your total estimate. My spouse didnt realize that i had not been given a complete rundown so paid the additional money. I then called the facility and was sent an invoice with a breakdown of services. Line after line of charges- some made sense, some didn't. Of course there is absolutely no way to prove what was done and not done but no matter - the prices were way out of line.I was amazed to see things like $41.00  to take blood pressure???? Which  of course was taken numerous times - and charged for each time. Really? Those "nice" phone calls the doctors made at the end of each shift - which probably lasted for 2-3 minute were each done at a very hefty charge. You are also told that if you don't pick your dog up by 7Am on Monday morning - when it stops being an emergency facilty and just becomes a regular veterinary office that your pet will be "transferred" to one of the regular vets and you will automatically be charged a $500 transfer fee!  I know this is an emergency service and I expected to pay for that.  But i really feel this was so exorbitant that these people are truly taking advantage of pet owners when they are scared and vulnerable. We have sinced talked to several people ( including area veterinarians) and have been told they are several other facilites in the area that offer the same quality service but are much more reasonable in their costs. i wish I had know that before. I hope I never need this type of service again but if I do , I will be more prepared on possible options. If you are a pet owner I would recommend you become familiar with what services are around you before you it might be needed and I hope it is never needed! Read Less

We were referred here when our dog chipped her tooth. Our regular vet was honest enough to admit that this tooth (the large molar) was very difficult to pull and frequently could even break the jaw if not done properly, and root canals with crowning was "above his pay grade." I was understandably very nervous, but the veterinary dentist and all of his staff were great. He explained in detail what he'd do, what to expect, and answered thoroughly every question. His assistant was nothing short of wonderful. They spent more time with us than any human doctor I've seen, making us feel that our pet was as important to them as she is to us. The office is beautiful, spacious, and immaculately clean. I would never have guessed it to be for animals rather than humans if I didn't already know better. Every veterinarian on staff is board certified in their specialty. I'm very thankful this awesome place exists in our area. As for cost, yes it isn't cheap, but cheap isn't what I want for my baby. However, I didn't experience anything like the price gouging implied here by others. I was told up front and given the chance to accept or decline any other proceedures I might want or need while she was anesthesized. I intend on returning to have her cherry eyes corrected, and I would hope and expect to receive the same wonderful treatment as I did with her teeth. You get what you pay for, and although I'm nowhere near well-off, I want the best for my best friend. Read Less

I have a 5 week old puppy who jumped out of my arms when he saw another dog he wanted to play with. After he hit the ground he wouldn't quit crying and was limping. I took him to pet med as they were open on a Sunday morning, and they were fantastic. There was practically not wait, and they treated him as if he was one of their own. The Vet even came and talked to me, and assured me he didn't need to do an x-ray. I know a lot of places would have just to run up the bill. The $87 fee to get seen by the dr is well worth it when you're concerned about your pet. While I hope we never have to go there again, if a need came up this would be my first choice. Read Less

We had to take our 13 year old dog Sparky here tonight to be euthanized. Every single person we encountered (Brandi and Dr. Walsh especially) was so nice and gentle with him. They let us stay with him before and after the euthanasia as long as we wanted. They even put him to sleep while my mom was holding him in her arms instead of doing it on some cold metal table. The vet (Dr Walsh) who put him to sleep was very sweet, calm, and gentle during the entire process. She explained the process step-by-step. They acted as if they were truly concerned about us and Sparky instead of acting like we were just more money for them. Of course I hope I never have to but I would bring my other animals here in case of emergency. Read Less

Let me start by saying... I am absolutely obsessed with my dog and I treat her as if she is my child... I rushed my dog to PetMed after seeing she has an extra large lump under her throat that wasn't there before I left for the gym. We arrived right at 6 pm. It was over 45 minutes before we saw the Vet and we were the ONLY ones there. Finally the Vet comes in and takes a look at my dog and takes her back to run some tests. She told me she believed it was Salivary Mucocele and she didn't want to drain it. She said it could possibly give her some respiratory distress and to take her first thing in the morning to her regular Vet. So here I am thinking my poor fur child is going to stop breathing in the middle of the night and didn't sleep a wink... Turns out she was completely wrong and it looks to be a snake bite... $188 for absolutely nothing but a sleepless night... The place itself is beautiful. They did a really great job with the interior... It is also one of the only clinics offering after hours. I obviously will have to go again if its an emergency... but I definitely prefer my Vet and hope to be avoiding this place! Read Less

Petmed is a place that you never want to visit.  It is an after-hours only emergency vet.  They open at 6PM, and unless your pet is too sick to go home, they go back to your regular vet by 8AM.  If your pet is seriously ill, during the day it's Memphis Veterinary Specialists, the premiere specialist vet in the area. We've had to visit more than once, but they gave our pets great care and more importantly got them well.  Everyone there is very nice, and more than once we've run into techs from our regular vet moonlighting at night.  Each time we've been there they also have a steady stream of incoming patients, everything from hit by a car to eating something they shouldn't.As you might guess, they aren't cheap, but most of the services are competitively priced with a regular vet.  Really it's probably only another $50 over going to a regular vet during the day, the bulk of the bill is due to the condition of your vet, not paying extra for the after-hours service. They recently moved into a new building which is extremely nice, and offers a way better customer facing area than their old space.  If you have vet you need to know where they are locate, just in case. We called prior was told we didn't need an ultrasound from our local vet. We get there & they decide pup needs one anyway & are charged 5x more for it. Plus, they fed puppy corn-based food while we were gone after being told many times he was severely allergic! They also cut his tummy with trimmers when clipping for ultrasound & the place is covered in dog hair. My dog was sent to the doctor here to have his eyes checked for glaucoma. His eyes were fine so we were told that his teeth, or one tooth in particular was absessed and needed to be pulled right away because my dog was in pain and the infection could and would spread. So of course I forked over a ridiculously large amount of money to have his teeth cleaned and his tooth pulled with the assurance that his eye problem would improve and his pain would get better. Of course the tooth they pulled was on the other side of his mouth from his bad eye and the next day his other eye was swollen and by the third day he was blind in both eyes. The tooth they did pull, it was later determined, was not bad either. Be very careful if you see these doctors and double check everything you are told because they will take you to the cleaners. They use peoples love of their pet to basically extort money from them. I would actually give them 1/2 star, but only because he did acutally check my dogs eye pressure. Read Less

A few minutes later I was told by a DR that it could not have been a seizure because "she had bitten her tongue ,and that did not happen with cats. She must have fallen or run into something in order to bite her tongue". She was given a penicillin injection and sent home with some amoxillin....That will be $150.00 thank you...The next day we called to see if they had any results from the blood work....the person on the phone said no blood was drawn...As far as I am concerned they dropped the ball.

Read Less

He called our chi by his name and helped walked us through the the entire process in which we were dreading. The front staff was very helpful and understanding. The first nurse we had was great and allowed me to stay with him for a while the first day I brought him in. I wish we could use dr rush and the team as our primary vet. Took my cat in on Thanksgiving Day due to an emergency situation. The doctor was nice, but was way off with the diagnosis and kept wanting to perform test after test to rule stuff out. Took my cat to our regular vet the next day and she diagnosed her correctly with no tests at all! The price was extremely excessive and ZERO diagnosis when we left!!!! It is really a shame that people get taken advantage of in the worst way at this establishment. Chances are you are already traumatized and then when you see the bill, it makes it all the worse.

We were in and out in about an hour, and they kept apologizing that it even took that long--I was expecting to be there all night! Read Less

They are slow in their response to come let you kmow what is going on. They gave us a range of 1400-2100 to treat our pet. We refused treatment,  paid for our visit (208) and 12 hours worth of antibiotic and pain meds.We took him to the regular vet the following morning and the surgery and a weeks worth of meds was $442. This clinic is taking advantage of people in distress. If this type of situation arises again I will use the clinic on Summer.

Read Less
