The veterinarian and staff are some really good people. They are true animal lovers and it shows. They regularly groom my mothers dog and she looks so good, shiny healthy coat and perfectly trimmed nails every time. I love Dr. Bernander and his staff! Absolutely knowledgeable, has an "old country vet" appeal about him. No nonsense and wonderful with the dogs, extremely willing to work with the owner in front of him and recognizes experience, as well as being willing to teach what needs to be taught. If keeping up with modern appearances is important to you then I'd go elsewhere. If great service and knowledgeable staff are most important then this is a fine establishment. Took my two dogs to get spayed, we got there and they looked at us like we were crazy. Apparently they had put them in the system as cats when my girlfriend told them repeatedly they were dogs over the phone. We were also told they would be able to go home that same night but when we got there, they told us they had to stay over night (we live in Tullahoma, TN) so that was a big problem for us. We get a call to let us know how the surgery went and I asked how much it would be, they told me $88 and I verified it with them and they confirmed. When it was time to pick them up they charged us $20 more. I didn’t say anything then but later in the day my girlfriend received a phone call stating we owed them an ADDITIONAL $80. The staff are rude on the phone just as they are in person. Will NOT be returning for future business. Read Less

We have visited Caring Hands several times and have had varied experiences. A year ago I would have recommended Caring Hands to anyone who would listen, today however was the final straw. My sister and I care about our pets like many people do as family. It is important that they receive the best care possible. On our first visit we overlooked the state of their front office, the smell, and the surly attitude by the office staff; on our second visit we overlooked their unprofessionalism and the loud inappropriate conversation taking place for everyone to hear. We overlooked all of the red flags, because we kept hearing how wonderful everyone was and how they had saved a neighbors beloved golden. Today however I am here to say that no they are not in fact an office that works miracles. No, today they mistreated a furry family member. They placed my already hurting and scared family member in a filthy shower in a filthy bathroom and left him there for several hours. I was told to leave that they would check on him and he would be tended to and that we would soon know the cause of his pain. I called every few hours to be told that he had not yet been checked by the doctor, but soon would be. I took him at 9 this morning, it was not until 4 this afternoon that the doctor finally check him out. I'm not an unreasonable person if they were busy or there had been an emergency I would have been happy to have taken him elsewhere. I now have incurred a cost with no explanation. My family member is in the same state that he was twelve hours ago. My suggestion is to be cautious when going to Caring Hands. I'm personally on the lookout for a better regular vet and am on my way to Blue Pearl in Cool Springs. Read Less

When we got our English bulldog, we were told Dr. B. is terrific with the myriad bulldog-related concerns so I switched vets for his expertise. The focus of this practice is on animals, not fancy facilities. I've never seen a vet enjoy animals more or diagnose & interpret their conditions better than Dr. B. When we travel, our dog loves to board here. Loves it. This says a lot about the attention he's given while at Caring Hands. Dr. B's animal-loving wife, Joy, is usually the groomer & does a very nice job. It can be frustrating when you need to get in & out quickly because the front is not always efficient, thus a 4-star rating overall, but the standard of animal care is 5 stars. Read Less

We REALLY like Dr. B. He seems to love his patients - human and non human, based on one other encounter. However, my husband took our dog here to have his nails cut and the staff took our dog to the back. My husband heard our dog screaming in pain and went back to the examining room to ask what was going on. The staff assured him that everything was fine. My husband returned to the waiting area, only to have it happen again. Again, he went back to check on him. When the staff returned, our dog to the waiting area, his claws were bleeding. They told my husband that our dog really didn't need his claws cut, but they did it anyway. Tonight, our dog can't even walk across the room because he's in so much pain. I went in as a brand new customer for my cats RayRay and Henry. Two ladies behind the counter ignored me as I stood there waiting as they talked. Then as I was trying to set up an appointment for my one cat to get looked at the receptionist (who looks like was related to the Vet) carried on a personal conversation on the phone right in the middle of me trying to schedule an appointment. Then a dog that was on a rusty chain was being taken out and the stench was incredible. I then noticed a flea that same evening on Henry. Both my cats don't go outdoors so wondering if it was from there. Looked and smelled bad. Si, won't be 5aking my babies in there. Read Less

The staff seemed very nice however the facility was filthy. It was extremely unkept in every room that we entered. Also, I was never asked to consent to any treatment plans. They just did what they wanted & then charged me for it. I would have expected to be offered options & allowed to decided whether or not to proceed. I recently started taking my two dogs to Dr Bernander after he was recommended to me by my friend who has been taking her animals to him for years.  I have found him to be a very caring and informative vet. I can definitely say he spent more time with me over my elderly dog that any vet ever has. Most are in and out in 5 mins and the rest is tests and services. I found him to be a very compassionate person with a genuine love for animals. I will continue to take my animals to him. If you are looking for flash premises you may not be a fan but if you are looking for a wonderful caring vet then Dr Bernanders your man. The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because of the premises I think the house is quaint, tidy and clean but I realize some may like more modern facilities. Read Less

Doctor B cares for my chronically ill Beagle. She has so many issues and he helps her in so many ways! He is kind and loving and the care he gives her is beyond amazing! His prices are always fair and cheaper than other clinics around bc his first concern is your animal!! This is so rare to find in our money hungry world! The Staff are top notch and so loveable and friendly! I cant say enough about Doctor B! He is truly one of the last of the old school docs that take the time to talk to you and explain everything that you need to understand about your dogs condition!! One of the last true caring vets left who truly cares about your animal vs what all he can bleed you for money wise! Go see him you will not be sorry! Read Less

I've gone to this place for years but when I had a problem, it's been handled so unprofessionally that I won't be taking my dogs back! A lot seems to stem from the fact that a new person working there couldn't do things correctly on the computer system & didn't have anyone available to help her out. They did exams on our dogs that were UNAUTHORIZED & won't remove those charges. In addition, they've found other errors of theirs on the bill where they overcharged for some things & undercharged for others, but they are unwilling to just not charge for the things they forgot to charge for, plus take off what they overcharged for. My main problem, though, is that we were charged for exams that we did NOT WANT! If further treatment was needed, they were supposed to call my cell phone, but they never did. If you choose to go to this place, get IN WRITING what things you've okayed, & check your bill carefully when picking up your pets! My husband just paid the bill because he assumed these were things I'd asked for, but that is wrong! The office manager, Joy, has been very rude on the phone, making snide remarks & hanging up when I was mid-sentence. We've been loyal customers for many years, but at the first sign we were upset with something, Joy has been extremely rude. The fact that we've brought our 2 dogs to them for many years has obviously had no bearing, due to how horribly I've been treated. It was illegal of them to perform these exams on my dogs, yet they've decided to be rude & make snide remarks to me! I take both of my dogs here for their vet services and grooming.  They also spent Thanksgiving weekend there last year.  I have nothing, but wonderful things to say about this place. They love my dogs and take care of them like their own, despite being very busy.My last visit was for a grooming and annual check up.  They were wonderful about letting my leave my two dogs there and took care of both needs without requiring me to hang around.  I particularly like that part because that way my pups can't blame me for the shots when they get home.  The prices are inline with others in the area for vet serivces.  The grooming services are a little higher than average, but not by enough to make me change places.  And boarding was a lot cheaper than I thought it would be, especailly for the services they provide.  I would recommend Dr. Bernander and his staff to everyone. It's true that this practice may not be in a new and shiny building, but you cannot get a better more caring doctor than Dr. B! And, since when does your dog care what his surroundings look like? Our first experience 15 years ago was with my late beloved dalmatian. He was the sweetest dog who loved everyone, everyone except the vet. I tried several local places where I left in tears because they either refused to treat him or wanted to sedate him or were just mean to him. Then someone recommended Dr. B. We went there and Dr. B was great; he took the time to let my dog get to know him, would talk to him, give him a treat; and presto! within a few minutes my Bingo was giving Dr. B kisses. Mind you we had to do this every year when we went for his physical but I always left feeling like Dr. B loved all animals. Caring Hands also works with many rescues; helping all that they can. David Bernander, DVM is one of the best diagnosticians in the area. He loves his animals and the animals that he cares for. I have been using him for many years and trust only him with my surgeries. I have several cats and dogs. The bad review sounds like someone that must have worked for the clinic. ie, sour grapes. The building is an older building, but who cares? The place is not a luxurious resort. If you are the kind that gives your dogs bottled water, kisses them on the mouth, or lets them sleep between them and their spouse on the bed, this is probably not a place for you. For the rest of us who love our dogs (but maybe less than our kids) and who do not mind if the dog sleeps on the floor, well this place deserves your attention. They are universally kind, professional, and I always get my money?s worth. The vet actually spends time with you explaining the dog's condition, etc. It is a throwback to old-time vets I remember from my childhood. I get the feeling this guy would make house calls if he could. I am constantly surprised how they can offer so much of their time at so little a cost. I have boarded my dogs there on several occasions and they always come back clean, happy, and apparently well treated. One downside - the place does look dated, and maybe a bit worn, but OK, I've seen my dog roll in dirt and drink from the toilet, so I figure he really doesn't mind that the pattern has rubbed off the linoleum in the place we board him.Read Less

Dr. B is an excellent vet who also breeds great dogs. I've always been impressed with the time he spends explaining things to me and how gentle he is with the dogs. And, when I get my bill, I'm always amazed at how little he charges during these times. The facility isn't the most modern, but it's adequate and I appreciate the fact that it keeps my vet bills affordable for him to have lower overhead. I can't believe any of his current staff would be rude although they do stay very busy. Joy also has a way with dogs and knows how to groom one for show. I used to take my cat here back when I lived in Franklin and this place lives up to its name. They have a resident cat, Mr. Stinky, who just roams around and tries to make friends with every animal who comes in. He also, in true cat manner, likes to try to sit on the receptionist's computer while she types in your information.Dr. Bernander is a lovely vet. He's very caring and understanding and he loved my big boy cat and understood his tendency to fight with everything and get hurt. He also displayed a lot of skill when my cat was bitten by snake and his paw turned black. He was able to fix him up like new. I would still go here if it weren't so far away from my house. I try to give every place the benefit of the doubt but this place is a bad place to board your pets. First off....I asked to see where my pets would stay...what a mistake!!! It looks worse than the local pound. It is an old dark buidling and they keep all the pets in the dark most of the time. It is soooo sad and dirty looking. I know most boarding facilities are not fancy but this one is plain awful. Also, I think it must be dirty because one of my dogs had a bad bladder infection (a very bad one...my vet told me...I took my dog the very day I picked him up from there) when he came home and the vet said that they had no idea how this could have gone unoticed by a vet (caring hands has a vet on staff). My other dog had a bacterial stomach infection. I had to spend all kinds of money the week I picked them up because both of them were sick. I understand some boarding causes stress on dogs but I have boarded them many other times at other facilities without ever having these problems. They also seemed to be a bit traumatized or something. I will never take them back here. They are cheaper than most places so I thought I would save some money but ended up spending more money on vet bills so I learned my lesson (you pay for what you get!). Read Less

Do not board your pets here. I boarded mine there for the first time over the 4th of July holiday and when I picked him up today he had filth and dirt on every leg, urine caked on the tops of his hind legs and his elbows are raw and swollen from where he was clearly not given a blanket to sleep on and instead had to sleep on the concrete floor. He looks like he has not been fed in 4 days and drank 3 bowls of water when we got home. The place itself is not nice and they clearly have no idea how to care for animals. Read Less
