Best vets we have ever been to. Dr. John Ayers Dr. James Root both go above and beyond what you would expect from vets. They take as much time as you need, stay updated on new treatments, listen to everything you have to say and answer all questions.We have four dogs treated by them in the last 5 years including major sugeries, allergies, SARDS, cysts, eye/ear infections and chronic back pain. They took the time to research new therapies ahead of an appointment we made and had obviously spent hours on it by the time we arrived.Thanks to their caring deeply about what they do, today one of our dogs has relief from allergies they have suffered from for years. Let me first start off by saying I started bringing my animals to Root Veterinary Clinic since 2009 and always trusted Dr. Root's medical advice and treatment of my 3 dogs. When my one dog got really sick, we brought him in on April 10, 2017 while Dr. Ayers was there. We had only ever seen him once before and while I decided to let him be the expert, I wish I had followed my gut instead. My dog was severely lethargic, vomiting, had a mass on his back hock and was not acting himself. All Dr. Ayers did was aspirate some fluid from the mass thinking it was a mast cell tumor...no blood work or any other tests were done. One day later, my dog was dead and two days after that, he called back with the results from pathology only to find out my dog did NOT have cancer. I feel more could have been done to diagnose what was wrong with my dog because we have no answers and likely will never know why my dog died. All I have to show for the visit is a vet bill and a broken heart. I will never bring another animal of mine back to Root Veterinary Clinic. Read Less

Very good. The staff was really helpful and friendly; everyone wanted to see my husky puppy. They calmed me from any fears I had as a new daddy and even gave me a sample of Medicine for my Legend. Per my request, they made copies of my shift records and set me up for a follow up appointment. Also, it seems that my leash is too small due to the rapid growth of my pup and, while signing paperwork, he kept wandering throughout the offices, to which the staff kindly and lovingly brought him back to me...twice. I recently moved into town from Ca, so I didn't have a vet yet when one of my pups developed a fairly big lump on the back of her head/neck. After researching for a good local Vet, Root was one of the only handful with any rating, and the best rated one so I figured I'd give it a shot. They were willing to take me in at the last minute close to their closing time with zero notice and they even stayed late for me a little bit.All of the staff including Dr. Root were amazing and friendly to their new patient, myself, and were even accommodating my girl's brother whom insisted on tagging along with his sister and getting in the way lol.Turns out out to have been a minor water cyst and they quickly shaved and drained the cyst flat within a matter of seconds and were friendly chatting the entire time. The cost of the entire procedure was about $50 which is actually quite cheap these days, especially coming from CA. so their pricing platform is definitely competitive and affordable. Would definitely recommend Dr. Root and this practice and they have become my new permanent vet.I've spent years with multiple vets and these people were by far the easiest going where you could still get very professional behavior and procedures without the eyeing of trying to drain your wallet. I recently had to seek medical attention for a dog that was in my care. Dr. Root's clinic was not only the closest, but highly recommended by friends and acquaintances. The staff seemed very professional and caring. They were as gentle as possible with their frightened little patient while doing a preliminary exam before Dr. Root came in. I was very well impressed with Dr. Root. He ran only the tests necessary to make his diagnosis. We had already been using Dr. Root for a couple years when my dog got a weird fungal infection in her nose. He didn't stop until he found out what was wrong with her and didn't nickel and dime us to death. He is a great Dr and is willing to listen to pet owners when they have an idea. After moving to Nashville and asking around about good vets, I was referred to Dr. Root by several people. I took my 3 dogs there when they came down with bronchitis. They received treatment from another vet, but it had no effect on them. The medicine Dr. Root prescribed worked like a dream. He is very compassionate with animals, very informative, patient with answering any questions you may have, and has a great sense of humor. His office staff is the friendliest around and their waiting area is absolutely spotless! Embarrassing as it is, my dog had an accident in there once and before I even knew what happened, they had the mess cleaned up. Another thing I love about Dr. Root is that he always calls the day after to check on your pets to see how they're doing. My dog takes medicine for anxiety and if I'm out and and something comes up that makes her feel very anxious, all I have to do is call Dr. Root's office and since they have known my dog for along time, they can have it ready for me in minutes. Even though I moved away from Goodlettsville many many years ago I have continued taking my four-legged family to Root Animal Clinic for the past twenty years or so. The clinic is always clean and smells better than any human-child daycare I have ever visited (fresh&clean, not cover-up-flowery, or disinfectant=scary). Even the rooms that clients don't usually see!The staff is always focused on the animal's comfort and well-being, and works diligently with the animal and the client to achieve the best possible quality of life in a given situation. The quality of services is fantastic. The staff is warm, compassionate, and appropriately intolerant of anything that causes unnecessary stress or pain. I always wished that someone in my family was a vet so I'd know that when my pet was sick I could count on the absolute best advice and care that I could possibly have. This is EXACTLY how I feel about Dr. Root and his staff. I have 3 pets, one of which has a number of very serious health problems. I have been to several of the vet clinics in the area (Mobley, Dr. Head, Value Vet on Gallatin and in Hermitage), and I used to work for a veterinary clinic in Green Hills. I can honestly say the care provided by Dr. Root is miles above the rest. His staff is more than friendly -- they are truly some of the nicest and most caring people I have ever met -- and they always treat my pets as if they were their own. Dr. Root is extremely knowledgeable and honest and I trust him completely. The office is always super clean, and there really is just no other reason to go anywhere else!
