Hendersonville Animal Hospital was founded in 2006 and began accepting clients in February 2007. The animal hospital is the realization of a life long dream of Dr. Aine Corridon. She began working in the veterinary field in 1990 walking dogs, cleaning kennels and doing anything that would give an edge to an aspiring veterinarian. Dr. Aine Corridon is a 1992 graduate of Hendersonville High School. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from Auburn University and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University. Dr. Aine Corridon began practicing veterinary Medicine in 1999. In March 2012, Dr. Jennifer Wilkinson joined our team. Dr. Jennifer Wilkinson is a native of Ohio and she moved to middle Tennessee in 2006. She is a 2000 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. We are so lucky to have her practice veterinary medicine with us.

Our cat was seen by Dr. Aine Corridon in late July and prescribed Baytril for a UTI. After a few days of Baytril we noticed her pupils were extremely dilated. We looked into this on our own and discovered that pupil dilation is a sign of retinal damage, which is the most severe side effect of Baytril and can result in retinal toxicity. We discovered this information directly from Bayer, the manufacturer of Baytril:
https://www.bayerdvm.com/our-products/baytril/baytril-antibacterial-tablets
Under the description there is a CAUTION "In rare instances, use of this product in cats has been associated with retinal toxicity. Do not exceed 2.27mg/lb. of body weight per day in cats."
Our cat weighed 17 lbs so she should have been given a maximum dosage of ~38.6 mg/day. She was prescribed 22.7mg tablets, twice/day which is 45.4 mg/day, clearly an overdose.
Upon discovering this we called the vet to report the dilated pupils. Dr. Corridon wasn't available so we spoke to a receptionist and she relayed our message back to Dr. Corridon. About an hour later we received a call back from a different receptionist who told us Dr. Corridon wasn't concerned with the pupil dilation and we were not advised in any way to stop giving our cat the drug. We were quite taken aback by this as we were able to research and discover on our own in about 5 minutes that pupil dilation is the most severe side effect of Baytril and a sign of retinal damage and potential blindness. Later that evening we observed our cat having difficulty seeing in low light. She wasn't jumping up or down on familiar surfaces like usual and roaming around very cautiously/hesitantly. It was very clear that her vision had been impaired. Thankfully we decided to discontinue the Baytril.
An email was then sent to the vet expressing our concerns about the side effects of Baytril and how dangerous it is to exceed the recommended maximum dosage of 2.27mg/lb. of body weight. There was no reply and no phone call from the vet. We decided to take her to a different vet where it was confirmed she is visually impaired and that her vision loss and pupil dilation are permanent.
We understand that mistakes happen and perhaps Dr. Corridon simply wasn't aware of this severe issue with Baytril and cats, but not calling us back and not replying to our email was unacceptable. What was also very frustrating was that there was no mention of any side effects when we were given the drug. No discussion at all about the drug and what to be aware of. We were resigned to simply reading the label which only stated the dosage and dosing schedule. There was a complete lack of concern shown for our cat. Not only was there no warning about severe (albeit rare) side effects of Baytril, no call back from the vet after we expressed our concern, they didn't even reach out after an email was sent. We called again after confirming our cat has vision impairment and it wasn't until then when Dr. Corridon called us back. There was no admission that a mistake had been made or an apology. Just an "I appreciate the call and wish Gertie the best".
We want cat owners to be aware of Baytril and if ever prescribed look out for dilated pupils because that is a sign of retinal toxicity and will eventually lead to vision impairment. We wish we were informed of this and then perhaps we could have caught this sooner.
On a positive note we are giving 2 stars instead of 1 because we did not have any issues with their grooming services as the groomer always gave our other cat cute lion cuts. Read Less

Dr. Aine and the staff are always considerate and attentive when I ask my one thousand questions. I’m never felt to be an inconvenience. They really want you to be comfortable and informed. Some reviews have complained about the high costs. From my experience, most pet care is not cheap, unless you are willing to sacrifice quality service. I’ve had a few cats with issues. In most of those cases, I have been given a wide range of treatment options and have been able to choose based on my budget. I guess the only complaint I have is that I wish they were open on Saturdays. That being said, I’ve never had any issues with getting an appointment immediately and they do have later hours. Wow. Talk about a rude, money hungry veterinarian office!!! I was charged around $90 a few months ago to have two cats from a RESCUE organization tested for fiv and felv. Today, my mother took another one of the fosters for testing and was charged $69! For the test alone! Every vet charges around $40 for this and so did they a few months back. They told her they gave her a "deal" by not charging for an office visit. You should be Ashamed of yourselves for treating a rescue organization like that and then acting rude and saying "you can call the owner tomorrow if you want but she won't do anything". This is why we love our vets at graham and gallatin animal hospital. They would never have a "price increase" like this especially for a cat they know is a foster!! MONEY HUNGRY, RUDE PEOPLE! As much as you want to give a business a chance to do the right thing...we have to unfortunately resort to social media to warn others. Very young inexperienced techs there. With our elderly cat we got the hard up-sell for over $300 in things we didn't need and for our 6month old puppy, they could care less on calming his anxiety for just a nail trim. We were quoted a price for a nail trim that we knew was more expensive than Petco but we believed it was more important to familiarize the puppy with his vet. Well they took that opportunity for a good experience and turned it into a bad one for the puppy and the owners. Upon checkout, they tacked on even more money than quoted and when they were questioned about it we were told "you can always go to Petco." When we talked to the owner and she apologized for the incident..we asked for all records to be mailed to us, it came with a long addendum typed in the records from one of the techs. (Just a nail trim remember) it was loaded with a story of partial truths and untruthful ridiculousness obviously put on at the last minute because we expressed our unhappiness. Read Less

I believe you will be in good hands as well when you bring your fur babies to this office. Read Less

Everyone in my family from my mother, brother, myself, and both sisters -in-law have used Belle Forest Animal Hospital for 40 years. The office staff as well as he doctors have treated us like family since day 1. We have had numerous animals receive care there. I have personally had a cat and a dog with cancer. The tireless efforts to help them and the compassion shown to me and my pets during that time went above and beyond just a vet's office. Read Less

I have had nothing but positive experiences with Belle Forest Animal Hospital. I have been taking my cats there around 15 years. My first cat was loved by the staff there as if she was their own. When we had to put her down the staff was as sympathetic as could be. I now have another cat that is treated very well there. Dr. Shannon makes such a fuss over her every time we go. It's very comforting to know that my vet is so concerned about my cat on a personal level. My cat gets very good medical attention and the staff there is friendly, the receptionist, the technicians, the doctors - they all make it as pleasant as it can be for a stressed animal going to the doctor. Dr. Shannon is a great vet! Read Less

I adore Dr. Greenwell and her assistant, Kim. They are the most skilled, compassionate, and helpful team ever. I followed Dr. Greenwell from the Pet Emergency Clinic, where she made a very sad experience tolerable, to another vet clinic close to my home and then to her own animal hospital where she is now.
