Yesterday our beloved dog of nearly 16yrs. became extremely critical. Nearly blind and unable to walk, his pain level had reached the intolerable level (despite prescription pain meds) and we needed help to ease his passing. Thankfully, Bluegrass Animal Hospital came to our rescue. Within 45 min. of phoning them, the vet and her assistant arrived at our home and compassionately aided our precious boy in his final journey. I will be forever grateful to them, for their in-home emergency visit that helped him pass away quietly at home, in his bed, surrounded by those who loved him dearly! Read Less

If your pet never gets sick, then this place is okay. The staff are friendly and it's easy to get an appointment time. They do charge slightly more than most other vet clinics it seems (regular clinic visit base charge is $42.40 not simply $40 for example). I had the experience of having a pet get sick and am very disappointed in the provided care. The vet offered an expensive full spectrum blood panel which I refused because it was easy to cross off many symptoms for some disorders (no blood in urine/feces kind of symptoms for example). The vet would not stop pushing this expensive full spectrum blood panel. When I said I would approve blood tests for more likely problems they stopped offering help for my pet and wouldn't even suggest the more likely causes for the sickness. The vet would not agree to do a smaller scale, more well fitted to the symptoms blood testing. It seemed like they either didn't have a clue what could be wrong or they simply push more expensive testing as their only available options in general. Now I'm going to a different clinic for a second opinion. Finally, they can only treat dogs/cats. They say they can service and give physicals to other animals but they were very unpracticed with handling small animals like rabbits. Read Less

I do not recommend bringing your pets to this practice. They did an invasive surgery on my pet that yielded no diagnosis of what was causing his pain nor did it help relieve his pain or repair what was causing the pain. They gave me a price quote and then exceeded it by hundreds of dollars without giving me notice in advance or asking my permission. I asked what his current bill charges were during the course of his treatment at least four times. They wouldn't tell me. I didn't get the total until it was time for me to take my pet home. No one called or emailed me to check in on him. The person I spoke to about all of these concerns offered no solutions, raised her voice at me and told me that I just didn't "get it". I was inexperienced and I relied on them. Now I get that I shouldn't have put my pet's health in their hands. In fairness, I didn't deal with every doctor in the practice. I can only speak to my experience with a couple. Also, only one receptionist was involved with the issue about how the bill was handled. The other desk staff seemed very kind and polite. The facility looks nice. I won't return though. Read Less

If I could choose zero stars I would. After seeing the 2 negative comments on here about this place, and realising how completely accurate those reviews were, in comparison to my experience, I wanted to leave a comment to ensure anyone considering going to this animal hospital to not!!! My dog got sick suddenly, and we brought him here, he was misdiagnosed and given a surgery he didn't need and wasn't even close to the area where is actually medical issue was... I have a long bodied pup and they are often prone to back and disc problems which was actually the issue with him. After getting a second opinion, my dog was treated for the proper issue, and is now (months later) doing well. We called to dispute the misdiagnosis, and cost which were $300 over what they originally quoted me. The owner screamed and shouted at me over the phone (never having met me before), and cut me off in every sentence I tried to articulate. Horrible management, and Dr Moser and Dr Disney are horrible doctors, and very much so money grabbers. They are not kind, and the owner Dr Moser, needs to attend anger management classes! Awful customer service skills. Awful! She should not own a business let alone a veterinary practice!!!  Thieves! I question if the practice actually is legitimately legal. Do not take your cat there, there are better places. I had to board two cats for a week. I phoned a few days later and asked how they were doing. The woman who took the call said, "Hang on," held the phone away from her for quite literally about 2 seconds, and then said "They're fine." When I came to pick up my cats, their cage was a mess. Aside from feeding, they had obviously been ignored. Most of the "staff" were bored-looking teenagers. After I left, I realized the cats' sleeping pad was not the same one I'd brought. We have taken 3 of our cats here since July. The first cat we brought in was a kitten who we were told had broken her knee. They put a cast on her and given us some pain medication. They proceeded to have us bring her in every few days to a week and charged us an absurd amount of money to say she is still fine. We decided to stop bringing her because she was clearly recovered and they never even followed up with us about her ever. Even upon return visits they did not care that we stopped bring her in without even saying why we stopped. The main reason I am writing this review, however is because of our most recent visit. Our cat was caught beneath a recliner when someone was putting the recliner back into it's normal position. The cat was clearly hurt. We noticed that her right side was sticky and it was causing her a lot of pain to touch it. When we brought her in the staff at Bluegrass acted as if we were over reacting for even bring her in. They said there was no signs of bleeding nor broken bones. Fast forward a few days later and our cat has a huge bald spot on her side and a giant scab the size of a tennis ball. What is worse is that over the next day the scab is getting even bigger. We call back in and ask why this was not discovered and Bluegrass told us it must be a separate issue and they wanted us to bring them back in. We informed them if their solution was to bring the cat back in and get charged a bunch of money yet again then we would go somewhere else. Without any attempt at retention, they said best of luck and got off of the phone. We took our cat to another vet who told us that our cat had a fever and immediately had to cut open the scab to drain it. It has been a few weeks now and she is still recovering with a giant open wound on her side. We were told this could have been prevented entirely if Bluegrass had taken the time to diagnose our cat and give her antibiotics. They are more interested in our bank accounts then our pets by far. Never will we go back or let one of our loved ones go back here. Read Less

I called about 15 minutes before I showed up on a Saturday after driving around trying to find an open vet clinic, and I was welcomed as if I had been going there for years. The visit took less than an hour even though I had walked in AND was a new client. The staff and vets were incredibly friendly and I could tell they were happy to be doing their job. We had a diagnosis and a treatment (medication included) by the time we left, and about a week later, we received a hand-written card from the vet (Brandy, I believe) who attended to us, which accounted specifics of our visit, including her wishing me luck in my schooling. Bluegrass gets 5 stars for how they treat the animals; 1 star for how they handle complaints.  Here's an example.I'm a repeat boarding customer for BG.  I board my dog for 7 days while I am on vacation.  I drive for 9 hours miles back from the beach and get my dog at 6 PM.  At 9:30 there is bloody diarrhea on my dining room carpet (the stain won't come out).  At 11:30 it happens in the bedroom.  I confine the dog in the kitchen on a tile floor.  At 12:30 it happens again.  It is as bad as the first two combined.  I don't worry about diarrhea, but blood is another matter.  At 2 AM we are at the Emergency Animal Clinic.  That costs over $200.  By 9 AM the dog has had a total of 10 sizeable bloody diarrhea stools - four of them between 4AM and 9AM.  I call BG to see what help they can offer.  I get this from the owner: 'It is stress diarrhea, we didn't cause it.  Besides, you signed an agreement that we are not responsible.  People are always looking for someone to blame. (I only told them what happened, I never said they caused it.)  I don't know what you want (because she never gave me a chance to suggest anything).  Here are some tips on what to feed him.'  I take the dog to my vet.  He gets more IV fluids and some special i/d food.  That's another $100.  My $200 boarding bill ends up costing me $500 and BG isn't responsible.  Fine.  You don't get a "Like" on Facebook for that.  You could have said: "I hear you are worried about your dog.  Bring him in and we'll check him for free and we'll give you some i/d for him."  How hard would that have been?  I could have suggested it if the lady had given me half a chance.  Instead I got to hear about her woes.  Maybe she was having a bad day.  My dog sure had a bad night and mine wasn't much better.  The good news - the dog is fine. Dr. Moser saved my dog's life. For me, she is a hero and I am a big fan of Bluegrass Animal Hospital now. Newman, my 10 yr old lab mix, went in for his routine annual visit. He was completely normal (or so I thought) and had no symptoms of illness at all. Dr. Moser listened to his heart and heard a faint murmur. She then examined his abdomen and felt a mass that shouldn't be there. I was skeptical about believing something was wrong with Newman, but I agreed to bring him back in for an ultrasound of his belly. She shared the resulting radiograph and ultrasound photos with me, and I was shocked to see a large mass that should be his normal sized spleen. She explained everything to me in perfect detail, and we opted to have his spleen removed a week later. This invasive surgery was less than 3 weeks ago, and Newman acts like a puppy again! Dr. Moser and her staff took excellent care of him during and after the surgery, and she contacts me on a regular basis to make sure all is good with him. I know she truly cares about my 4-legged kiddos. I used to think regular visits were costly and unnecessary, but I will never feel that I can skip an annual visit again. My dog was not "sick", but I know he would have soon died if Dr. Moser hadn't found this problem. And I can honestly feel concern and compassion from the entire staff there. They might be a bit pricier than other vet offices, but, for me, it's worth it.Read Less

Thank God for Bluegrass.  Our dog has been going here since we moved to Knoxville, and while she's always been a little high-maint, nothing prepared us for when she started having seizures the first spring we lived here. Terrifying. Luckily, the folks at Bluegrass truly love animals (and, bonus, are really wonderful to people, too). While our first vet left soon after our pooch was diagnosed with epilepsy, we were then blessed with Dr. Jayme Peck, who I cannot speak more highly of. The women at Bluegrass (I also love the all-female vet thing!) are insanely busy, but Dr. Peck always returns my phone calls, which are often frantic because of our dog's health issues. She has been willing to listen to our ideas about treatment for Pooch's condition, and understands and is sensitive to the fact that Hubband and I are poor students. You will really feel like you have a family at Bluegrass! Pet owners with senior or multiple animals may seek adaptive scheduling telehealth services and behavior-linked recheck frameworks to maintain manageable care. Through systematic observation coupled with seasonal strategies Bluegrass Animal Hospital equips Knoxville and Tennessee pet owners to predict needs and respond—turning veterinary visits into proactive care routines.
