Dr. Hilla and staff are wonderful. He has No problem taking his time to explain at great length what is going on with my cats. Ive had other vets rush in and out leaving me to wonder a few things. At Callahan I have no apprehension about asking any and all questions I have. Their prices are fair and competitive with other vets. I have used several vets in town, and this is by far the best. Always liked Dr. Hilla, but he has been going through a lot of vet techs. The latest one had problems getting blood. I don't want that tech guy ever taking blood again after the scared look in dog's eyes. I have also had my dogs ears treated there. They used this new medication on them, but did not clean the ears first. When I questioned it, the vet said that they don't have to clean them first. Seems strange to me. Kinda like putting antibiotic on a dirty wound. Still like the vet, but keeping my eyes open, especially with the change in vet techs. Read Less

Dr. Jamie Hilla is a PREDATOR. Someone very close to me was employed by Dr. Hilla at Callahan Drive Animal Hospital where he made innumerable sexual advances on her. In addition, he had her performing surgical duties on animals even though she was an unlicensed vet technician. Her aging dog was not doing well and he stole medicine from the clinic and suggested she "euthanize the dog herself." This is just the beginning, the list of antics goes on. Behind the scenes, this man is a complete creep with an unethical practice. DO NOT take your animals to Dr. Jamie Hilla. Read Less

I am Extremely Pleased with the Care and Attention my Red-foot Tortoise Scooter and I received at the hands of Dr. Hilla and his staff. They are all very knowledgeable about the care of Tortoises; and, in fact, members of the staff keep these fascinating creatures in their own homes !! I felt very reassured as the Doctor examined Scooter, and as he needed treatment, Dr. Hilla was very thorough in his instructions to carry out in the needed therapy. And he also was able to assist me with instructions on housing, feeding and all that is involved in care for these animals. Without a doubt, I will definitely recommend this Hospital to everyone with any animal with which they share their lives, as I am sure that they are all very competent with their patients, no matter what their species !! Either dishonest or has no idea what they are doing......I believe dishonest. Took my baby in for 2nd opinion on a heart murmur my vet found....because I was in tears I believe I was trying to be taken advantage of......with heart murmurs they are graded on a scale of 1-6....my vet said maybe a 3....just starting to hear the murmur....this vet said a 5....which means my dog was in serious trouble......slid an estimate in front of me for $350 for testing and did I want to go ahead and get started with treatment? Well no, I came for a 2nd opinion, not to change vets!!! Went back to my vet yesterday for the test...same ones he said were $350....my vet cost $149.....and guess what.....my dog is at the very BEGINNING of an enlarged heart...not on deaths door like this vet said....stay away from this office if you dont want to feel ripped off or lied to!!!! I wasn't going to write a review but if I can save just one person from going here it will be worth it. I took my two dogs in here for some concerns I was having. The Dr. only address one of the many concerns- he told me a open wound on my dogs leg would never go away and that she would just always be in pain!! I was the one who asked about cones and other tactics to get her to stop licking it- no help from him. He then decided it would be best to run all of these unnecessary tests on them both. Believe me when I tell you he cares about ONE THING- MONEY. So I stood at checkout and paid for all of these tests (why I don't know). Then when I leave I get a call telling me he forgot to charge me an extra $60 for a test!!! I told them it would be hard for me to get back out there soon but I would try. Then he proceed to send me to collections over it!! Please please please don't go to this money hungry guy- if he cares so little about his patients to send them to collections over $60 I don't know why he is in the field he is. Read Less

Dr. Hilla and his entire staff are simply outstanding. I truly feel they take care of our pets as they would their own. What I appreciate the most about Dr. Hilla is his willingness to explain why a certain treatment is needed before it is done. His style has consistently been to treat conservatively and only progress to aggressive as the need arises. When that need does arise, the outcomes of our pets' health have been remarkable. For example, his skills as a surgeon are nothing short of incredible. Another example I could cite is the treatment of epilepsy for our dog. As a practicing Pharmacist I know that most veterinarians use Phenobarbital for seizure prevention--which does cause liver toxicity. Dr. Hilla uses a safer compound called Potassium Bromide--which, although still requires monitoring, is safer. I have never asked Dr. Hilla (or his staff) to take back any medications dispensed for our pets. As a practicing pharmacist for over 20 years I am thoroughly familiar with both Federal and Tennessee state law and know that returning medications to any pharmacy is illegal. I also have never observed any reluctance from Dr. Hilla to issue me a prescription for a medication that is available cheaper at any local pharmacy instead of being dispensed by Callahan Drive Animal Hospital. I never had a dog as a boy growing up, and recently I lost my first dog Frodo to cancer. I was so distraught that I simply could not take him to have him put to sleep--my wife and sister-in-law took him for me. My wife told me that Dr. Hilla cried after it was done and told her that "Now I have to worry about your husband, because I know what this dog means to him." That level of empathy, coupled with top-notch clinical skills, is why we go to Callahan Drive Animal Hospital.Read Less

I definitely would NOT recommend this place, after raping me on medicine costs, an antibiotic that anywhere else would have been 5$ or so, then refusing to take the medicine back claiming they are not allowed to, I was a pharmacy tech for several years and I know that's simply not true, then after a sugary on my dogs ear, gave very vague post op instructions her wrap that suppose to come off ( by the office, but sx was on a thurs so that would have been on a sat, so we were told to remove it)..was off that same afternoon with no back up gauze to put back on it so her poor face was just covered in blood!.. Then gave us ANOTHER bottle of the same ear drops we had before which they could read on her history by the size of the bottle that we wouldn't need it, so told us it was "different"...not only will I be finding a new dr for my dog I will also do what I can by speaking to the vet board to make sure they do not continue to take advantage of people just because they trust the word of the dr!Read Less

Butler would be a close second, but I'm biased bc his father was our vet at the farm i grew up on. Read Less

Read Less

I have had great experiences at Callahan Animal Hospital. I have taken both of my dogs when they were injured or sick. I don't always keep up-to-date on vaccinations and such but the staff never make me feel like I'm a horrible person or pet owner. They always treat me with respect and treat my babies well. I never feel that they run unnecessary tests and their fees seem reasonable to me compared with other vets I've used. I will use them again and I recommend them.

We chose this vet because of how close they are to the house when we moved to Knoxville. Very happy with our choice. Their prices aren't horrible, although they definitely are not an inexpensive vet office. I think that you get what you pay for though, I wouldn't want to take my babies to a discount vet. They do offer deals and weekly discounts though, and if you time your visit right they help offset the cost. The staff is very friendly and treat my animals like their own.
