Scruffy City Animal Hospital

Knoxville, Tennessee
General Info
Scruffy City Animal Hospital is a Knoxville-based veterinary practice devoted to the welfare and well-being of pets throughout the region. Situated in Knoxville, United States, the clinic is known for its trustworthy and professional approach to animal health. The knowledgeable team provides individualized health programs, consistent monitoring, and a variety of therapeutic options. Services often include Dental Care, Acupuncture, Internal Medicine, Grooming, Oncology, Surgery, and Boarding. These treatments are executed in a professional and caring manner, targeting both prophylactic and acute needs. The hospital is well-equipped, and to minimize stress, the animals may experience during visits. Clients consistently mention how the veterinarians’ caring and communication skills help establish long-term trust, which enables pets to get consistent care. It continues to grow as the cornerstone of the Knoxville pet-owning community. Whether it is helping young pets start life on the right foot or supporting older ones with chronic issues, the clinic’s professionals are always willing to assist. Their dedication to the well-being of animals is also evident as they constantly seek additional knowledge and education in the field. This ensures that your pet receives the best possible care. The practice also strives to raise awareness on proper pet care techniques. The moment a leash clips or a crate door unlatches at Scruffy City Animal Hospital in Knoxville, an experience begins. One that ripples into innumerable pet-loving homes throughout Tennessee. The intake process is built around rhythm. Pets are afforded enjoyment opportunities in either the lobby or the room’s corners. The first session is about getting the basics stable (safety first) by adjusting lighting and positioning, and calibrating tone of voice. Joint checks take place before oral checks, and fur assessments always precede abdominal examinations. Caregivers are asked to report any changes in the child’s early-morning behaviors, sleeping breathing patterns, and eating interest to healthcare providers. Scruffy City Animal Hospital provides structured health mapping, which includes diagnostics and injury recovery timelines, stress-aware vaccine timing, geriatric mobility support, and individualized pain tracking. The treatment cadence changes when the animal does looping behaviors together with freezing and looking away. The order of the procedures is based on handling tolerance and movement recovery periods rather than a specific schedule. Post-appointment, families receive guidance on the next steps based on their pet’s decompression phases identified during the review session. Some animals need an immediate reward (like a walk or tender words), while others want to be left alone and warm or require several sessions of soothing. Scruffy City Animal Hospital helps animal caregivers understand what to do during the entire clinical process, not just in follow-up visits. Scruffy City Animal Hospital aids fearful kittens and elderly-pet sensory adaptation across Tennessee through the arc of their care pattern’s emulation of animal lifestyle rhythms, from morning start to evening reflection.

Dr Dixon is a great animal doctor. He may seem gruff, but he's just very focused on his patients. The ladies in staff are super helpful and cheerful. They really care about what they do and always remember us. The prices are also quite reasonable. Dr Dixon has also given us very good advice & recommendation to UT's vet hospital when we had a need for specialized testing, which he followed up on with us every step of the way. Read Less

Dr. Dixon and his team have been treating our animals for 24 years. When you stop and really think about why you take your animals to a vet it is not for your treatment it is for the best treatment of the animal. While he is dry, which I prefer, he is extremely compassionate and caring. He always finds out through thorough testing proper diagnosis for the best treatment of very complex medical issues. My friends who use other vets usually get sent to UT for lesser issues and have massive bills. All of my animals are now exceedingly elderly due to his care. I completely trust his judgement, thought process and recommendations for care. You will be very happy with his office, he devotes all his resources to your animals care. Read Less

Dr. Dixon and his father have cared for my dogs for 34 years. Yes, they both have had a dry bedside manner; however, I always drive 20-30 minutes just because my critters have received such excellent care. Dr. Dixon takes the time to explain and answer questions. It's not like an assembly line (getting you in there and out). My first dog lived to be 18 years old. I now have two dogs who are 16 and 13. I attribute those long lives to the good care and advice I have always received from Dixon Animal Hospital. Read Less

My wife and I have been taking our pet dogs to Dr. Dixon for about 20 years. Yes he has a somewhat dry bedside manner. I consider it my challenge to make him smile on our visits. However, the quality of service we receive is excellent. Three years ago he saved our dog Piper's life when he discovered a tumor on her leg. He removed as much of it as he dared and then referred us to UT Vet Hospital where she had to receive 19 radiation treatments. She is still with us three years later (with a slight dimple in her leg and a bald spot around it from the radiation). Dr. Dixon knows his craft. Healthcare for humans is expensive and vet healthcare is not much different; however, I believe that Dr. Dixon has always tried to accommodate our budget concerns, sometimes even when we didn€t really have any. Unless YOU'RE the one that needs to be petted, you can€t do any better. Read Less
