I had a less than satisfactory experience when I picked my 2 dogs up on a Sunday from the kennel. I was told to pick them up at a side door after paying. I was VERY clear with the girl that I wanted the hand off to take place in a confined area indoors after I retrieved my left over food, water bowl and other items. Next thing I know she is standing outside holding my 2 large POWERFUL dogs at one time by herself on some flimsy leashes more suited to a Pekinese. If they'd seen a cat she could never have held on to them. I was LIVID having just told her 10 seconds prior how I wished to take possession of them. I then went to the front desk to register a complaint and was told I would get a call on Monday. Never received a call. Hence this review. I am not making any commentary on veterinary care. I have little experience with CAH in that regard. But I will most likely use another kennel next time I travel. Read Less

I gave at least one star for the clinic that was so kind. Now, when we got to the emergency section that was awful. We left feeling hopeless and disregarded. After rescuing a lively energetic kitten, she fell lethargic after a week. Limp and couldn't lift her head. We came to this hospital. We were told the kitty was dehydrated and had brain damage. Then disregarded with no offer of assistance to rehydrate. Isn't that why we pay For help?! Luckily, a knowledgeable friend came by and whipped up a solution with electrolytes and sugar to raise glucose. After 4 hours of worry and dripping solution in the kitten's mouth, she came back. Waddling and mewing like normal. I'm sure the this place can help with anything else but heavens forbid you have a dehydrated kitten without brain damage. No luck. Read Less

I will never take my babies here again. We have had their records sent to another animal hospital. I can no longer, in good conscience, recommend this establishment. First time going to this place. Had an appointment for 10:00 am and was escorted to an exam room by 10:05. The visit was for an ear infection my poor fur baby was struggling with. The vet and her assistant were extremely friendly and gentle with my boy. They were able to quickly examine his ears without so much as a peep out of him. Immediately, she told me that they would administer a steroid injection to reduce the inflammation in his ears and prescribed antifungal drops. I was unable to go back with him while they gave him the injection, but they told me that he wasd a very good boy the whole time. As we wrapped up the appointment, they were adamant that I give them a follow up call in a week to update them on his condition. They were genuinely concerned about his health, and not once did they try to sell me any unnecessary products or examinations like many other vets do. And to top it all off, I was even met with a sigh of relief when they told me the price of the visit. I will definitely be taking all of my animals here from now on. They are not only friendly, but thorough, and affordable. Read Less

Perhaps my experience was a one off because the reviews as a whole seems to represent very happy customers, but I felt dismissed, mislead, and overlooked. I came in for a second opinion following an emergency vet visit over the weekend that required x-rays and indicated that the diagnosis from the first vet was obviously not quite on point (perhaps I should have given them another go, but hindsight 20/20). I forgot to mention on my first visit in the midst of the stress that their website says there is a complimentary second opinion, and I wish I hadn't even brought it up when I went back the next day to drop off my animal for the ultrasound because I feel like I was treated like a second class citizen from that point forward (just pay the $59 or whatever it is IF you decide to go here). It says clearly on their website under restrictions on a second opinion that, €If the client approves further diagnostics or courses of treatment to be performed at Central Animal Hospital on the date of the Second Opinion exam, the standard Office Exam fee will be waived.€ Ummm, would have thought going forward with the ultrasound and biopsy the next day would qualify for this€€€BUT they seem to be going by the restriction below that one which states: €If the client wishes to discuss the second opinion at a later date, a standard Office Exam fee will apply. The veterinarian will not be available by phone to answer any further questions regarding the second opinion exam.€ (Veterinarian will also not be available by phone to answer any questions regarding results of further diagnostics or courses of treatment is what it should have said just FYI) Long story short, my cat required an ultrasound with biopsy which was done on the February 14th and I was told that the results should be in after a couple of days. After several days of not hearing anything, I called and they said that since it was sent to an outside lab it would take longer, but that they would call as soon as they had the results, which seemed reasonable to this concerned pet parent. Fast forward to March 3rd, when I call yet again and finally have an answer. Now, the real frustration comes when I ask for a copy of the results and see that the lab results were faxed to Central Animal Hospital on the 20th. Yes, that's right, I worried and my cat suffered for 10+ extra days despite them making a serious point that as soon as they received the results I would. Even better, is that I have not been contacted by Dr. Karnes either by email or phone directly since the first visit where we decided to do an ultrasound and biopsy. All communication has been through her husband who is not a veterinarian, so any questions that I had went through a game of telephone. I never got my questions answered regarding if there not being any spleen cells present on the spleen biopsy was a problem, and have not received any feedback on the glucose curve that I was instructed to do at home and send in, which I did a week and a half ago and had a question about. As long as you are comfortable being lied to about when they received lab work (I called between the 20th and the 3rd and was told that they were still waiting on the lab to send it to them) after spending $600+ and being made to feel like a royal pain for even following up and never having the actual doctor communicate any of the results to you, then perhaps this place is fine. I will say that the vet techs and nurses were GREAT with my baby and made me feel like he was well taken care of the one day that he was there for the ultrasound. Unfortunately, my expectations of having at most a 5min call from the ACTUAL doctor about the results are obviously out of line with what Dr. Karnes sees as reasonable. Read Less

I cannot possibly say enough about the kindness and compassion the staff at CAH showed to both our sweet, sick cat, Roxy, and to me and my wife. Gwen and Taylor sat with us for almost an hour in the middle of the night, just trying to help us give our poor scared girl her medicine and make her (and us) feel comforted and better. They had only known her for a day or so, but I will never forget how much love they showed her. I cannot even imagine how I could thank them enough. Going to the vet is such a scary, stressful time for so many pets and pet parents, but there is no price tag you could put on the kind of loving care they showed her. Read Less

Horrible Experience for Both my dogs. Had my dog spayed and after I had issues that required him to go to the ER I called to let them know his status. I didn't even accuse anyone. I've never had a male dog so I didn't know anything was amiss about his neuter. I just thought they would want to know what happened to their patient. The ER vet said he had never seen a neuter that looked like a spay. He had 8 staples along his penis area from the testicles forward. He was a 12 month old dog that had both testicles dropped normally. Central Animal Hospital was defensive and rude saying "we did it right" and there isnt a vet to call you back because you went through the community program. This was in spite of the fact that Dr Chandler had treated my pets for the last 20 years! Its not Dr Chandler but the management at this vet and whoever it was that did the neuter. I love Dr Chandler. She is the best vet ever. I had brought a new rescue dog in at the same time for her first vet visit. She was peeing a lot and it had a horrible smell. I wanted her checked for heart worms, bladder infection, and parasites. They said she had heart worms but no bladder infection or worms. After I saw worms in her poop I took her to a second vet. She does NOT have heart worms, HAS a severe bladder infection and worms. More offensive was the office manager calling me like a salesman to sell me on $1100 heart worm treatment!. Just to make sure the heartworm test was accurate I had my dog tested a third time for heart worms and it came back negative again. I am so angry and they were not helpful when I talked to them. I paid hundereds of dollars on both my dogs only to have to take them somewhere else afterwards to spend hundreds more. I am pretty forgiving of mistakes but the treatment I received when I called them was outrageous. So sad this happened. I valued the trust I had in Central Animal Hospital and drove 45 minutes out of my way to take my dogs there.Read Less

Dr. Karnes, Alex, Stephen, Dixie...the entire team is great here. Compassionate, realistic, dedicated. We spent a lot of time with them over the last year specifically with our older giant schnauzer. Ultimately, our beloved died peacefully at our home, in her bed with Dr. Karnes and Dixie assisting and her whole family with her. As tough as it was to lose our baby, I can't imagine going through the process with any team more dedicated to our family care and well being. Dr. and Mr. Karnes are a good example for other small businesses that are dedicated to the Midtown community. They invested heavily in their facility and created a brand new clinic a few years ago that is artistically designed (Archimania) and respectful of the Midtown Overlay rules. They are involved and participating in the community which is always important to us. We have been very happy with the medical services at Central Animal Hospital. I adopted a dog last month (which is just as amazing as advertised) and after a couple of weeks, I knew it was time to find a good vet home for him (Randy).  As a new resident of the Chikasaw Gardens area, Central Animal Hospital is right down the street.  I scheduled an appointment very easily for the upcoming Saturday.I pulled in the parking lot that Saturday morning to a small hospital, but saw a big new one being built behind, so I knew that was a good sign that this was a good place to be because that obviously meant they get good business. As I went inside and checked in, I made good small talk with the receptionist who was very nice and then took Randy back with the vet technician only after waiting for about 5 minutes.  The technician and the veterinarian were both very nice, helpful and effective and offered great advice to me, new dog owner.  All in all, with a month's dose of heart-worm medication and the checkup complete, I only spent about $130, which made my roommate jealous as he paid over $100 more where he went. Also, I found out my new pup Randy is very healthy!

No luck. Read Less

Central Animal Hospital is a wonderful establishment that treats its patients (both animals and owners) seriously and respectfully. I have never had anything but top notch service here. Most recently I called a few minutes after closing with a pet emergency and was told to come right away. I left that visit feeling much less anxious, with a treated animal, and Dr. Karnes' cell phone number in case my pet took a turn for the worse during the night. How does one not LOVE that care? My pets have been clients at Central Animal Hospital for 19 years. My most recent visit was 2 weeks ago when my cat had dental surgery. I told the staff how wonderful they were in calming my nervousness. The car of my cat was so great. Everyone was so attentive, so caring and gentle. They were so patient with me and my questions and explained every single detail of what to expect.. I couldn't have gotten any better care but then, they have always given me excellent treament. I moved out the area 16 years ago and still drive across town because I wouldn't go anywhere else! Read Less
