My cat Clayton has been going to Southwind since November 2014 and we love it! I appreciate that Southwind keeps me organized by sending regular emails (both general and personalized), and I love that they provided me with a hard copy ID card for Clayton (kind of like a driver's license) when we first started going there. They are always easy to schedule with (regular appointments and even last minute boarding needs), and they are in a good part of town. More than anything, though, they love Clayton and I feel like they remember her/are excited to see her every time I bring her in. I recommend Southwind to all my friends with pets! Read Less

I knew for a long time this was a very expensive Animal Hospital, but liked them, so I kept going back. I had 6 dogs, now only 5. I have one dog named Bumper who has seizures. They quoted me at the front desk on his blood work on two different occasions one price, then when they did the blood work it almost doubled. Now to my female named Maggie. She stopped eating so took her to the Southwind Animal Hospital in Memphis. They did x-rays and blood work and the Vet came back in and said she had a spleen problem and she would have to send me somewhere else to have the surgery and it would cost me about $1500 to $3000. The vet then told me that she probably would not make it through surgery and the best thing to due was to put her down, and this is after she told me her liver and kidney functions were fine. She said it was best I put her down. I cried my eyes out. I had them put her down. The vet was well over $500 and the cremation was another $385. I was very heart broken. Not too long after that I went there to get an estimate to have one of my dogs neutered. Bumper was the only one not fixed. They handed me an estimate sheet with a price between $400 and something to well over $500. That is when it hit me I was really getting ripped off. Neuter cost between $143 and $200 at most Vets and if you go to the shelter they will give you a coupon to have it done for $50. After that I started wondering if Maggie should have been put down or not. I sent copies of her x-rays and other paper and lab work to 2 different vet colleges and a few other Vet clinics and they all told me the same thing. She would have 90% to 95% chance made it through surgery just fine. ( i asked them all the percentage they thought ) So now they unnecessarily killed my dog and that day along with the blood work they over charged me two time cost me now over $1000. I got a rude letter from someone in the office. They must play GOD because they talk like they make no mistakes at all. Read Less

They talked me in to putting my dog down and found out she would have made it fine. They also over charged me twice on blood work after quoting me one price and they are probably in the top 5 of the most expensive vets in Memphis. I was told My Maggie would not make it through surgery and the surgery would cost me between $1500 and $3000. I was told otherwise by a few vets and 2 Vet Colleges who looked over the x-rays and paper work on Maggie that she had a 90% to 95% chance of making it. This place took very good care of my Shihtzu. He needed surgery and they were able to see him the same day and set an appointment for the procedure within a couple days. The doctor gave us a detailed explanation of how the procedure would be done and afterward she told how it went. They followed up a few times to make sure my puppy was ok. This is by far one of the best vet clinics I have ever been too. My Dachshund has a disk disease and has had two back surgeries there. Every time she has had an issue they see her immediately. Dr. Mosley even came in on his off days to see her and perform her surgeries. We also use them to board our two dogs and they love it, they are always treated well and spoiled with attention during their stay there. I would highly recommended taking your animals here. I trust the vets and staff at Southwind.  I'll be honest I went to another vet closer to home and was so disappointed, that I turned around and went back to Southwind the next day. I have taken pets to Southwind off and on (moved and came back) for over 10 years. I have always found them to be professional and caring. The vets and staff probably think I am a neurotic pet parent (which I am LOL) but they have never let on to that and always done their best to answer my questions and allay my concerns. Called ahead for boarding. Provided proof that we vaccinated and they refused to accept it. Having to revaccinate him against our wishes. We called ahead to ask if we could use our own vacations from another area at the time they said that would be ok. Charged us to let him out and have time with a person. I think that's shady and says they don't care about the animals boarded. Avoid at all costs. We asked to see a supervisor or doctor and was told they didn't have time for us. Read Less

After visiting this hospital for a few times, it is clear that the staff really cares about your animals. Plus the doctors seem to be very knowledgable. In addition, the hospital offers several different types of services, from medical services (exams, shots, surgery), training/ behavior classes and grooming. I've also used their grooming services for my long haired calico and they did a really great job. I recommend Southwind Animal Hospital if you are looking for staff who care about your animals. My little Pug, Rebel, fought a hard fight against cancer for over a year. Dr Cooper and the staff at Southwind were wonderful all during that time. I have never been to a vet who sat in the floor and allowed him to climb up in her lap to examine him. They were amazing and helped me get through a very sad time in my life. I came to this place last minute when my dog suddenly got sick the night before. I called before and ask if I can make an appt but after explaining to them my dogs symptoms, they told me to bring her immediately and so I did. They were very attentive and welcoming from the start. It seems like that they have a great staff and they do care about the animals. It shows when they took great care of my dog. The five stars is not about perfectionism but it's about the great knowledge and fairness of the people at southwind animal hospital. I definitely found my vet here in Memphis. :-) Read Less

Our Basset Hound, Bogie, loves Southwind Animal Hospital, and so do we. All of the doctors and staff have taken wonderful care of Bogie since we moved to Memphis in 2008. From neck and back issues, to anal gland expression, to dental cleanings, to overnight stays,and regular check ups and shots Bogie has received excellent care from all of the staff at Southwind. Several years ago took my beloved dog there. Vet told me I should go ahead and clean her teeth although she found physical problems (kidneys ). I trusted the vet. Picked her up after cleaning and she died in my arms that night .... They admitted they did not check her before they let her go. And I still had to pay the over $500 bill. DO Not Trust them. While they are a bit more expensive than some other places, I wouldn't take my cats anywhere else. When I had to put one of my cats down, they were so great to me.  After the whole ordeal, they sent me a framed paw print and a card from the vet assistants. The card had sweet notes from all the people who had worked with my cat. I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and sympathetic vet staff.In addition to the great staff, they have really helpful resources for pet owners.  The online access to your pet's info, including prescriptions and appointment booking, is really convenient.These guys are great, and totally worth it! I have been taking my Caviler King Charles Spaniel to Southwind Animal Hospital for 5 years. The staff is always extremely polite, positive, and helpful! The grooming service offered there is top notch, too. My dog, while healthy, is of a breed known for many health complications. Wonderful facility! I have taken my pets to Southwind Animal Hospital since I moved to East Memphis and would not entrust them to any other veterinary staff. The boarding facilities are clean and spacious, the receptionists are friendly and efficient, the medical staff are insightful and compassionate. I would never recommend Southwind Animal Hospital to anyone. They misdiagnose even the simplest of cases, which raises serious questions about their competence and/or their morals. The misdiagnosis also requires more office visits for your pet, which in turn increases your bill substantially. But don't expect them to admit fault or try to make things right. I used Southwind Animal Hospital for years and years, before moving out of the Kirby/Quince area. Dr. Barden Greenfield is by far the sweetest, most compassionate vet I've ever met. He is also very thorough and knowledgeable. All of the staff is courteous, and they make you feel like your pet is the most important thing in their day! I highly recommend this team. Read Less
