The Doctors and staff at this animal hospital help us through the one of the most painful & traumatic events of our lives... saying goodbye to beloved pets. I'm sure often they never see or hear from us again but the procedure and being with grief struck people has to be incredible hard for them as well. Words can't express my gratitude to Dr. Gansberger, Tracy, Douglas and Susie for their support last Friday. Dr. Williams and the rest of the staff were the same years ago. I visited Berry Hill Animal Hospital dor the first time w/my friend & her cat, that we both love & adore. The vet was very accomodating getting us in. Everyone was extremely friendly. It 's small & needs a little bit of updating But the people are fantastic! The vet and vet tech knew animals very well and you can tell they sincerely love them & love taking care of them. They are not just doing it for the money. They were very personable, very knowledgeable. They explained everything that was going on in terms we understood. They took their time with us and our pet, never once making us feel rushed. Then the pricing was quite reasonable for what they did. I'm now considering changing vets from one I have had for 10yrs to Berry Hill even though it's a little further for me from Brentwood. I was quite impressed with all the employees there from the vet herself, to the vet tech, to even the clerical/receptionist when we were checking in & out. Read Less

I took my cat Minerva here because of the good reviews I saw on Google and Yelp, but my experience was not a good one. As soon as we walked in, I noticed that the place smelled strongly of animals and was kind of run down. This is not something I had experienced before,  as our previous vets had all had clean, up to date facilities. When we went into the exam room I realized that this place smelled because it clearly had not been cleaned anytime recently - there were tufts of animal fur all over the floor. My cat (who, for the record, has behaved very well at all previous vets and never had any trouble except when someone tries to cut her nails) has never been outside our apartment and so has never interacted with another animal before, so all of these smells were probably making her nervous. Then the vet tech came in and I took Minerva out of her crate, noticing that my suspicions about her being nervous were obviously correct based on her body language. After weighing Minerva, the vet tech, ignoring or failing to notice the signs she was being given, proceeded to hold Minerva's head down on the table by the back of her neck while she took notes on a pad right in front of Minerva's face. So my cat bit her. I felt bad but she was clearly nervous and being mishandled so I wasn't really surprised. After this happened the vet tech freaked out as though she had never been bitten before and left the room. They would not finish Minerva's exam since she was past due on her rabies booster and told me I had to take her home and keep her on rabies quarantine in our apartment for 10 days before letting her out, despite the fact that I told them repeatedly that there is no possible way she could have rabies, since she has been quarantined in our apartment all her life and has never interacted with another animal except for myself and my fiance. Before I left I was chastised by one of the vets (who did not see Minerva or the interaction she had with the vet tech) for not telling them that my cat bites, which again normally she does not, and when I tried to calmly explain what happened to her she interrupted me and said that biters are biters and if they had known that they would have handled her differently. Does this mean they are okay mishandling pets if they "know" they will not be attacked? That just doesn't seem like the kind of mentality a vet should have. 10 days later I received a voicemail from the same vet who reprimanded me as I left our appointment reminding me that my cat had "latched on" to one of her employees and asking if I had "kept an eye on Minerva" like they had asked so they could reassure the tech that she did not have to worry about getting rabies. When I called back they did not ask if I wanted to reschedule my appointment; I would not have taken them up on the offer if they had. Read Less

This is a wonderful, well-run organization that truly cares about animals and their owners. We came here for 7 years with our cat, until she recently passed away. We commuted from 30 minutes away, that's how much we loved them! Our cat was very sweet to us, but a little gremlin at the vet... VERY difficult to work with. Yet, the staff at Berry Hill were always sweet, understanding, and very well trained on how to work with such pets. I found their prices to be reasonable compared to other vets in the area, especially considering the level of care you and your pet receive here. Our cat developed a rare cancer, so we were referred to a specialty vet. Even though our care was transferred, we received a condolence card signed by all the staff at Berry Hill Animal Hospital when we had to put our sweet Bisou down. This is a level of care that goes above and beyond the standard, and I highly recommend this vet for the quality of service they provide. When the day comes that we have another pet in our lives, we will continue care at Berry Hill. Read Less

I've been taking my pets to Berry Hill Animal Hospital for about 10 years. Over the years, they've treated two dogs and two cats. I couldn't be happier. One of my dogs has always been a bit "nervous" especially at the vet (even though he's a big dog). They are always very gentle and calm with him.On one occasion, he broke his leg trying to escape from the back yard. After Dr. Gansberger set it, she called twice while he was on the mend to check on his progress.Over the years, I've had two elderly cats. When they started having serious health issues, Dr.  Williams reviewed my healthcare options with me. I believe she was honest and forthright when I asked what she would do if they were her pets. The entire staff was incredibly understanding and compassionate when it was time to have my girls euthanized. After each of them died, Dr. Williams made donations to the LSU Vet School (her alma mater) in their names.Yes, their office is a little on the old side, but it's clean. I'm more concerned with the care my pets receive than the decor of the office they receive it in.I find their prices comparable to other vets I've used.Douglas is a fixture. He is the sweetest, funniest thing!I couldn't be happier with the care Berry Hill Animal Hospital has provided for my pets (and me). I would (and have) recommended them to friends and family. I have to preface my review as I am one to read reviews and not write them.  But I feel the need to caution other pet owners of Dr Williams, one of the vets at this business. The building is extremely dated, but that isn't even my complaint. Dr. Williams is not working in the interest of pet wellness but for her own monetary gain. I took my perfectly healthy Australian Labradoodle puppy in to see her a total of two times before going to another local veterinarian, and I would like to detail my experience and why I do not recommend Dr Williams.First of all, She continuously kept referring to my dog as an Australian shepherd- clearly an entirely different breed. After discovering my pet was neutered (before I even got him by the breeders) she began looking for something "wrong" simply to get paid. She finally settled upon a very MINOR bite problem and seemed intent on referring us to a doggie dentist. Her belief was because of teeth being a tad bit out of place they would perforate the roof of the mouth, cause infection, yadda yadda yadda. Honestly, I have known dogs with much worse dental issues and never had any procedures done. So, I went home and did research on the bite problem, and discovered it is a juvenile issue which my dog's breed grows out of. Fair enough, right? At our next appointment my husband brought this to her attention, in hopes to get everyone on the "wait and see" approach, which she immediately dismissed. She went so far as to personally call later on that evening to set up an appointment with this dentist, even after knowing this was something we would not be proceeding with! I brought up this matter with our new vet for a second opinion and she was 100% not concerned with the bite problem. Because of timing, our appointments were just 2 short weeks apart. Dr Williams took stool samples at both appointments for no apparent reason. Even after my stating that my pet shows no signs of discomfort, his stools look completely normal and he has appropriately timed bowel movements each day. Dr Williams would go so far as to cut my dogs nails without permission just to run the bill up. I am perfectly capable of dog grooming and there is absolutely no reason for a vet to do an untrained personnel's job in general, let alone without permission! Our new vet happily plucked our dogs ears and didn't even charge us for it- just to put things into perspective! If you would like your vet to continuously up charge you and perform unnecessary procedures without consent, this is the place for you! Read Less

I recently rescued a dog and brought her here to be checked out.  It felt very overpriced, and they called the next day to tell me my dog's blood levels indicated she should be very, very sick and I would need to bring her in for ultrasounds, biopsies, and other expensive tests.  They even said there was a good chance she could die that weekend! Of course I was very upset.  I prepared all weekend to lose her.  But after my dog showed no symptoms whatsoever, I took her to another vet for a second opinion and received a much more reasonable prognosis and treatment plan. Weeks later, my dog is much healthier and still going strong. Maybe they were just being overly cautious, but I feel like this place was after my money. Read Less

I don't understand why most of the vet offices around Nashville are so run down.I don't understand why the waiting rooms are outdated, or the examination rooms looked so dated...Vets around Nashville make oodles and oodles of money off all of us pet owners, I don't understand why their offices are so run down, looking. This office is no exception.  Run down, dated, building having the life sucked out of it..Doctor Gansberger was the attending physician, that looked at my cat and explained to me that his neurological affliction was only going to get worse.Came home, wrapped myself around my little boy cat and cried the whole night... I did not want to lose another beloved pet, so soon. This is one of the rescues I got, and I wasn't told that he had CH (Cerebellar Hypoplasia). It has become more noticeable in the last few weeks, and I became concerned at his drunken wobbly walk.  So I took him to the Vet and was told, he will probably need to be euthanized when the time comes....BUT...... after doing a lot of research, I have learned that my baby boy can live a long healthy life with help from me.  I learned that with some aids as far as lower sided litter boxes, kitten food, lots of love and exercise,  he can continue to thrive in my care... Not what the Vet told me.So....  I'm not sure how to explain this Vet office.Obviously, my research brought me more understanding that what the Vet told me.I doubt I will return.I will continue to educate myself on CH and be the best fur mom around.I will not listen to negative chatter from someone that really hasn't done enough research on CH. The one thing that is for sure about Berry Hill Animal Hospital is that they take great care of your loved ones. The Doctors have been extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to take their time to give advice or answer questions you may have. Being a first-time dog owner, the help is appreciated. The nurses are also AMAZING. They are the ones that make me feel at ease when we have to leave the little one in their care. From a business perspective, be sure to ask for a FULL quote when it comes to surgery and procedure costs. We were quoted a price for a procedure, then told all of these different things that are done or can be done in the procedure. Even gave us a 10% discount for rescuing our little pooch! It was my understanding that these "things" the Doctor mentioned were included in the quoted surgery, but oh, I was wrong. Save yourself the shock later, and always ask for a printed full quote. The final cost may have swayed us to get a quote from another clinic, but overall, I'm happy with our choice. Our little poochie seems happy, too! Read Less

We love, love LOVE Berry Hill Animal Hospital!  When we got a puppy a few years ago, we polled our dog-owning friends about vets they like, and we got an overwhelming response that BHAH was wonderful.  Our friends even bring their three dogs all the way over here from East Nashville.  I figured with that kind of response it was worth a shot.  When we first brought Oscar in, they fell in love with him immediately (who wouldn't?) and they were very good about making sure he was comfortable and didn't get scared.  Their technique must have worked because Oscar LOVES going to the vet - when we get out the car he pulls and pulls to get int he door! What I really love is that the doctors there might not remember me, but they know my dog by name, and you can tell that they really care about the animals.  One day, young in our dog-ownership, I found a chewed up book of matches on the floor.  I have no idea how many matches were in it before Oscar got to it, but I know that he left not single one.  New dog mom panic moment: don't matches have carbon in them?  Is that like carbon monoxide??  Is he going to die?!?!  So I called up BHAH and let them know what happened, after they talked me off of my ledge they let me know to make sure he drank plenty of water, and that I didn't necessarily need to bring him in, but watch for X, Y, Z.  Well thank goodness Oscar turned out to be fine, but the great thing is that I got an unprompted follow up phone call later that night, it was the vet calling from home, just checking up on Oscar to see how he was.  We started going to BHAH because it was convenient to our house and we got great reviews from friends.  We will continue going there with every dog we have from now until forever because they are WONDERFUL - I wouldn't trust my fur-baby to anyone else.
