I’ve been going for 3 years now. Dr. Walter Clark is willing to sit and explain everything they’re doing, all the options and any questions you have. I could not have asked for a better vet, and I simply stumbled upon them when I had just rescued my pup and I needed to get her into a vet quickly for bloody diarrhea. Have been going here my entire 43yrs of life. EVERYONE of my family let's have gone there. Have seen each and everyone of the Dr's. Each I'll add have been there 4 multiple years. Staff has always been GREAT. I had a 17yr cat going down hill quickly. Made a appt to see Dr.Cindy. She was awesome as always. Very informative about what was going on. Then let us make our decision... a VERY HARD ONE AT THAT!! We had Little One cremated and within a wk she was back home with us. They even took time 2 send a card. I tried Grassmere after trying out several other vets in the area when I got my first dog back in 1996. After mentioning to Dr Lambeth that I was interested in natural remedies for my dog, he pulled out his big homeopathic book and began giving me suggestions. I knew this was our guy right away and he took special care of Sammie her whole life. In addition to always thoroughly explaining every condition I ever brought my girl in for, he took the time to give me park suggestions, dog diet tips, etc. When Dr Lambeth was out, we did at one time or another see all of the other doctors in the office and each were very thorough and caring. I’ve never had anything but positive experiences with any of the doctors or staff at Grassmere. Additionally, I’ve always found their prices to be fair and reasonable. Read Less

We have four cats and have been going to Grassmere Animal Hospital for veterinarian care for approximately 8 years. We purchase 3 very pricey specialty foods there monthly and thought we had a close relationship with The veterinarians. Things changed last night when we realized that one of our cats, Buttles was actively dying. Grassmere closes at 7:00 pm and we called Grassmere at 6:16 pm desperate to see if one of her doctors would see her. She was clearly suffering. I was told that the doctors (primarily Dr Brumbelow) were too busy to see Buttles and that we needed to take her to the emergency vet. This news was very disappointing and heartbreaking. My husband and I understand that they are very busy; however, we felt we had established a relationship with them and felt they loved our cats (kids). we took Buttles to a new vet last night and will be permanently moving our services to Brentwood Vet. Very happy with our experience! Referred here by Miss Kitty's Bed & Bath after recently moving to Nashville from out of state. Even though we only came in for a vaccination update only, Dr. Clark took his time examining each of my dogs even though I didn't pay for an exam. His foremost concern was for my pets wellbeing even when I was looking to stay under budget - he's won my trust and my return visits! These folks are the best vets in Nashville. If they don't have the capability to handle your problem, they will set you up in the meantime and recommend a specialist instead of jerking you around. They have the best front desk staff, the best techs and the best hours. Dr. Piper is who I usually see and I wish she could be my doctor too. She's delightful, has a gentle manner and spends ample time explaining things, no matter how busy she is. I rather like south Nashville, but I can see how some people might be put off by the location. My advice is suck it up because the inside is pristine (no weird veterinarian office smell) and the quality of care is excellent. Read Less

At 6pm we brought our brand new retired racer in with a cut paw. Not only did they treat her like a princess up front, the staff was amazing all around. We had two follow ups and each time we left thinking we had someone in our corner if anything should happen to our Pup. You would think with service like that we would have paid up the nose but thats not true, they have fair prices and amazing people. Any fellow greyhound owners know how hard it is to ensure the vet knows the odd nature of your hound, but with GrassmereI had no worries. I would recommend them to anyone for any type of pet. We, unfortunately, had to make the decision to put our sweet dog to sleep. Thankfully, he'd had a great 11 years before severe arthritis and cognitive issues robbed him of his quality of life. We made the appointment at Grassmere with Dr. Piper and we're so glad we did -- Dr. Piper was so incredibly kind and empathetic and was the perfect person to handle this not-so-perfect scenario. I know that due to the painful memories attached to the place that I won't ever be able to return, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Grassmere to anyone for their pet's needs. Everyone we've encountered over the last few years of taking our dogs there has been very nice and they're obviously all animal lovers concerned with your furry family's well-being. I know it's odd to post a review that's basically for euthanasia, but I do it in the hope that someone else facing the rotten decision may find comfort in knowing there's a vet in the Nashville community who can help to make the process a little easier, as she did for us. EDIT: There is not enough I can say about this hospital. In the past 7 months we have lost two of our dogs, both at unreasonably young ages. Their care and compassion while explaining their conditions, and helping us deal with their end of life decisions were absolutely amazing. It is unfortunate that they know us now by our first names, even when we call. This is the only vet that we will ever use while we live in the Nashville area. They are amazing from their front office staff all the way to all of their amazing doctors. We love Dr. Brumbelow and Dr. Piper, but all of the other docs have been amazing as well. We are lifetime clients. Please take your pet there, they are amazing people. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have been taking my animals to Grassmere since we got our cat 5 years ago, and now I take all 3 of our animals to them (cat and 2 dogs). The staff is wonderful, the doctors always spend plenty of time to answer all of your questions, and their prices are always reasonable. I continue to go to them even though now we live in Smyrna. I have been using Grassmere since I was a teenager with pets and still living at my parents' home. Now my sister and I are middle aged adults with our own families and we still use them for the care of our animals. Through the years they have seen our cats, dogs, and rabbits and we have always been satisfied with the their care and compassion. They have seen my own family through 3 euthanizations of our beloved dogs Duke, Ziggy, and Kelly and they followed up with kind notes of sympathy and let us be with them as they took their last breaths. We have always felt that their rates are extremely competitive and now i know for sure that they are. I took a dog that I'm fostering to his home vet, Animal House, yesterday and I can now rest assured knowing how good I have it at Grassmere. I tell all of my friends to go here because we love them so much. They don't charge for office visits, just for services done, which saves us a ton of money compared to most vets. Our cat has a mysterious allergy and Dr. Clark was very helpful. Literally sat us down as he told us what he thought was wrong (severe seasonal pollen allergy), opened a book or two he had in the exam room to further explain his potential diagnosis, and tried trial runs of different treatments before we went ahead with a final one (which is an easy oral steroid daily). The staff is amazing. The receptionists feel like our friends at this point. We bring our dog in to say hi even when it's just a cat appointment. Can't say enough about how much we love Dr. Clark. I was thoroughly impressed with Grassmere Animal Hospital. One of my friends recommended it because she felt her dog received quality care there at a relatively inexpensive rate. As somebody on a researcher's salary, that was exactly what I wanted to hear. When I walked in, I noticed that the building was nothing fancy, but the staff were very friendly. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the vet I saw, but he seemed very knowledgable and was gentle with my cat. I appreciated that he took the time to thoroughly explain his diagnosis and even used a book with a flowchart to illustrate his points. I also appreciated the flexible hours and weekend openings since I work on a regular business schedule. This clinic is perfect for anybody who appreciates functionality over frills. Read Less

I brought my dogs here for years and was a very loyal client to Dr. Brumbelow. However, I stopped bringing them here almost two years ago after having too many issues. One of my dogs began collapsing randomly, especially at night. She shrugged and said "he probably just has a brain tumor". I'm FLOORED any veterinarian could say that, without performing any diagnostics. She misdiagnosed him with seizures and put him on medication that he later had to be weaned off.I regularly asked for bloodwork and was told he didn't need it, even though I was requesting it. If I'm paying for it and it's not harmful to run more bloodwork, I don't see why it can't be done. However, on one occasion that she did do some bloodwork, his neck was shaved so much, his skin was totally raw and bloody. I brought him back to get a topical antibiotic and she didn't even apologize, which was quite irritating, seeing as if she or the vet tech had paid any attention while shaving him, it wouldn't have happened. Another time, I mentioned that I was concerned about his kidneys since he was drinking a large amount of water. She dismissed my concerns (before a urinalysis was run) and told me that "he doesn't drink as much water as you think". That struck me as an odd statement for her to make since she's never seen him drink water. Then, once a urinalysis was run, she retracted her initial statement and told me that "he has some sort of kidney water retention issue". Bottom line, I lost my trust in her and didn't think she was capable of being my dogs doctor. Read Less

So far, I am a fan of these people. They are open until 7pm and on Saturdays, which is great for us 8-5ers. The staff was very friendly and talkative. Although the building doesn't look the best from the outside, the inside is clean and comfortable. As for their actual services, I am not sure yet. I only went for a HeartGuard renewal. Honestly, I chose this office because the vet there owns seven greyhounds. Who better to treat my hound than someone that has 7! Read Less

When our little corgi started losing his nails for no apparent reason, I put my grad student mojo to work and started doing some research on possible causes. After much sleuthing, I was beginning to suspect he might have an autoimmune disorder that frequently afflicts greyhounds, but can also occur in other dogs as well. Lucky for me, when I typed in the name of the disorder, the second page to pop up describing symptoms (as well as providing plenty of gross pictures), was one based at the Grassmere Animal Hospital, which just happens to be located in Nashville. One of their vets specializes in greyhound care, so we decided we'd take our little man to see her.One of the very best things about Grassmere is that they have walk-in hours from 8 - noon on Saturdays, when you can come in without having an appointment. The waiting room is a bit stark, but it does have separate dog and cat sections, which makes it a bit less stressful, and the wait was only about 20 minutes for us (despite having no appointment). We were also very lucky because Dr. Macherey, the aforementioned specialist, was working that weekend and was able to take a look at our dog. She was SO wonderful. A lot of times I think that while many vets are pet lovers, they also like to make as much money as they can, but I really felt like talking to Dr. Machery like she had our dog's best interest at heart. She spoke to us about potential triggers for his disorder, and then also talked to us about proper vaccination schedules (did you know rabies vaccinations are technically good for 3 years and do not have to be administered each year but can be waved?). Rather than immediately suggesting an expensive treatment regiment that would also be rather physically demanding on our dog, Dr. Macherey suggested an alternative option for the time being and also directed us to an online support community for further research. I really appreciated that she wasn't all alarmist and that she really seemed to know what she was talking about.Our visit cost us $45, but I would have paid much more for the level of care and knowledge we received. Given our positive experience here, I am thinking of making Grassmere our regular vets office where we will bring both of our dogs, regardless of nail disorders! No trip to the vet is ever fun, but this was honestly a very positive experience. Although there are certainly vets located closer to our home, I plan to make the trip out to Grassmere because it's definitely worth it. Read Less
