I moved to this side of town and should have never moved my vet and stayed with the one I knew and trusted. I have been with Harpeth Valley now for almost two years. I have bought all of my food, insulin, and diabetic supplies monthly here along with the regular well and sick check ups for my dog. My dog had breathing issues yesterday and i brought her in and they told me she was having heart failure and gave her heavy diuretics. I had to then take to the emergency clinic the...y told me was run by specialists and extremely caring and nice people. I go to the emergency vet and they tell me my vet was wrong and she needs fluids now and all of her organs are off and glucose is up. They said she should never have been on diuretics. Then they slap down a $4000+ bill of what tests they would like to run to “maybe” see what was wrong. Not one by one but all! My poor dog! My poor family! I was by myself and had to say goodbye to her. I am so broken hearted and infuriated at the same time. I have never met so many cold people in my life! At both places!!! And today after being told yesterday that harpeth valley would check in all night and today i have yet to get a call!! I have lost my best friend. My kids have lost their dog! And the vet that is supposed to car does not! I would never ever recommend this place or the nightmare of BluePearl in cool springs that they get a kickback from that they sent me to. I’m sorry would have been nice. Anything at all!!! 1 star is too much! See More Read Less

I've been a dog owner for several years now. I've moved quite a bit, so I've experienced my fair share of vets. I was super pleased with the extra time that was taken to make sure my dog felt comfortable. Also, I felt like they gave a fair assessment of things (like dental) that vets often try to force too frequently. A little pricey, but worth it to feel fairly evaluated, and for my pup to feel at home. Read Less

I cannot begin to describe how wonderful this clinic is. We moved here from out of state and our littlest cat was having issues eating and throwing up her food. After she had seen multiple vets in my past town and there had been no resolution or even diagnosis, I wasn't sure that the vet here would be able to figure out what was going on, either. The first day they met her they looked inside her mouth (why, oh why had no vet done this before?!) They discovered that she had resorption of several teeth, which is why she had been sick and unable to eat much for several YEARS. I was so upset and felt enormously guilty, but they assured me that it was not my fault as an owner, this is something that cats hide very well. They scheduled her for dental and were very attentive and caring, giving us updates by phone as she came out of surgery and recovered. Now, she is home and eating wet food like a champ and has gained 2 lbs.! She is much healthier and more active, and we brought our other cat in for a check-up as well (he's good too.) It is so nice to finally know what was wrong with Thusa and be able to fix it for her so that her quality of life could improve. We want to do best by our pets, and that's why we continue going to Harpeth Valley for their medical needs and care. Read Less

I don't really know how to rate this place. I brought my 13-year-old chihuahua mix here to get laser treatment for his neck. I had previously been to another disappointing vet a few times and was looking for a new place. So, first of all, he seems to be feeling worse since I took him here and I'm not sure what to think. When I walked in, the staff sort of acknowledged me and asked what I needed, but didn't seem very friendly. Then, when the girl came out to get him, she didn't really say anything. She just kind of held out her arms and made a face like, "is this him?" She didn't say "hi" or explain who the hell she even was. She asked for some clarification on where he needed treatment, but acted somewhat uncertain and almost as if I was speaking another language...I really don't know. I don't know if she was a tech, a doctor, or a receptionist...perhaps even a cleaning lady? These little details are what make me question if maybe they weren't gentle or thorough enough when they took him back for his treatment, and perhaps that's why he seems worse. I was hoping this place would be a more convenient, affordable, and most importantly caring, new office to take my Old Man, but I'm not sure if I want to give it another try... Read Less

Dr. Hurst is great.  It's his cliquish, gossipy front desk staff that blew me away with their rudeness.  Example:  Having been a client just shy of 3 months, I brought in a cake one day to show my gratitude for the doctor's willingness to consistently squeeze me in for appts. with my elderly kitty currently battling kidney disease.  "Brought ya'll a little something," I smiled one day, setting the cake on the front desk counter.  I didn't expect anything long, drawn-out or gushy for the gesture.  Good thing that, because all I got from these 3 office staffers was stares, broken only by an "uhhhhh ..... kaaaaay," from one of them, whereupon they immediately went right back to whatever they were doing before I walked in.  To say I wanted to crawl under the chair I was seated on in that empty waiting room would be an understatement.  AwkWard.  Finally, I spoke up, "might wanna put that in the fridge," (hey, $25 ain't cheap for a cake, ya know!)  The response I got from one of the 3 musketeers standing there was an annoyed and patronizing "we're busy.  When I get a chance I'll put the cake in the fridge, okaaaay???" Unbelievable.  I didn't expect the moon, but hell, a casual "thank you" would've been appreciated.  No class.  I knew then these were people I no longer wanted to deal with on any kind of regular basis.  Thank God I've found a knowledgeable new vet in Green Hills .... who, btw, has the friendliest, most professional staff you could ever hope to meet:)And they informed me they "loooooove to be brought cake":) Read Less

We have a cat and a dog that we bring here.  We have seen both vets on staff, used grooming and boarding services as well.  I never have a problem getting in for an appointment and they are very friendly and accommodating.  I have had to board my puppy when she was sick (the messes in your house kind of sick) and they were great about taking her in at the last minute and helping her get her meds; she came home happy and clean.  My only issue is that when I had a full groom (not a bath) the groomer didn't really seem to understand what I was saying to her and my puppy came back opposite of what I had asked for.  She looked cute but I asked for shaggy and she came back blown out puffy, I asked for minimal trimming and she came back with a tightly trimmed face and hind quarters.  Suppose it was just a miscommunication, but it is still noteworthy.  Still, I highly recommend this vet clinic. We live right across the street from a vet but choose to make the 40min drive to Harpeth frequently. We have a bulldog that has had to make a lot of trips to the vet and we have trusted them with everything. Many vets will be judgmental towards bulldog owners or not have the knowledge needed for this particular breed. Harpeth has helped us work through all of our dogs issues. Both of the Dr.s are very professional and kind. They, as well as all of the staff, genuinely care about the animals. While their prices may be a little more than the cheapest vet you can find, it is worth it. They never recommend unnecessary procedures and so in the end you save. They have called me to follow up with my dog's recovery and have given me an honest opinion about whether or not I needed to bring my dog in. (Most vets would always say 'yes' but they have told me when it is and is not an emergency). I would definitely recommend them. Read Less

Literally, my dog would not be alive if it weren't for the timely and skillful care of the vets and techs at Harpeth Valley. Shortly after I adopted my labrador-great pyrenees mix puppy, he became severely ill, dehydrated and eventually developed pneumonia. Such a little guy and so sick! The vets and techs were extremely attentive and caring, especially during the time that he was required to stay over night to receive IV fluids. They cared for him so well, that three years later, he still enjoys returning for his annual check-ups and gets excited when he realizes where we are going. I have to drive 30 minutes each way to bring my dog and cat to Harpeth Valley and I don't regret any minute of the drive. It's completely worth it for the level of care and expertise they provide. I have been a loyal customer for 12 years, but I am, no longer. I boarded my pet there over the weekend and picked him up a day early. I got charged a $20 pick up fee and had to pay for the night he wasn't there. I understood having to pay for an extra night, but not a $20 fee on top of that that was never mentioned to me! Obviously they are out for your money. When I called to discuss this with them, they were rude and wouldn't let me talk to the owner. They said I was unreasonable wanting a refund of the fee. My big complaint is that they charged my visa card first and then told me about the fee, so it was without my consent. They would not refund my money and were very rude about it. They have forever lost my business and I will never recommend them like I did before. Any one know of a good vet in Bellevue that won't cheat you? I CANNOT even give this place a rating as it doesn't deserve ONE STAR, but have to give one to complete review. With that said, jjjsmith33 was absolutely correct, ""AVOID AT ALL COSTS."" Please take this seriously. This place doesn't care about you OR, even worse, YOUR pet, including the DVM's Hurst or Herman. AVOID! AVOID!! AVOID!!! Do your pet a favor, do yourself a favor and AVOID. They are rude and by far the ABSOLUTE worst veterinary clinic I have ever visited....EVER. l feel GUILTY with regard to my pets, regret that I ever took them to this place and allowed such subpar care...please, don't make the same mistake, or you'll live with the regret I do. Heed this advice; my neighbor, who has trained dogs for over 60+ years warned me about how horrible this place truly is. I regret I didn't listen to the wisdom of a sweet, old woman who knows more and cares more about pets than these people ever will....and I've never heard her say anything bad about anyone or any place, except this place, and now, I can clearly see why. Horrible. And, the staff is NOT friendly at all, how could they be working for these vets, who set the standard for the staff? Amazing...the vet I just talked with, the one who sounds like Kermit the Frog after sucking in helium from a balloon (way too silly and way too high-pitched), just told me, when I literally said to her they give subpar care, ""if you don't like our services go somewhere else."" RUDE! Didn't challenge the fact they give subpar care....I guess some facts are just that, facts--indisputable even to the people that have a stake in disputing them. I informed her that the decision to go elsewhere had already been made--praise the Lord for my beloved pets! Just look at the predominantly bad reviews; one seemingly disgruntled person may not mean so much...many people unhappy with the care should speak volumes. Read Less

My Dachshund is 7 years old and I started taking him there a year ago when the Vet I was taking him too wanted to do a major surgery on a bubble that formed on my dogs paw. Dr Malone told me that surgery was not necessary and gave me medicine that cleared it up in couple of weeks. Today I took him in there because he was crying when he jumped. He apparently bulged a disc in his back. He gave me the medicine my dog needed to get better and gave me specific info to follow and did not nickel and dime me. I actually expected to pay a lot and the bill was only 60 dollars. He is very Knowledgeable and really does care. He only does procedures that are necessary and is willing do whatever to work with you to take care of your pet. I have had at least 4 other vets and none of them have ever taken the time that he does. Every time I have been there he has spent at least 30 minutes with me and my dog and done a thorough exam every time. I highly recommend him to anyone who loves their pet! Read Less

The staff are friendly and very passionate about animals. They love their jobs and truly care about the pets. They were kind enough to let me job shadow inside their clinic for four days, and I watched them treat the animals. All the pets received the highest amount of care the staff could give them, even the ones with annoying habits (one dog who barks incessantly when put in the kennel) and rude owners (ones who keep postponing treatment or payment). The vets are firm but kind; when a client didn't follow the doctor's instructions and caused her pet to need a second surgery, they corrected her enough that she followed their instructions the next time, but not so much that they embarrassed or shamed her, which they easily could have given the stupidity of her decision and the fact that she neglected basic care for her pet. The vets don't overreach themselves: when they encounter something outside their realm of knowledge, they refer to a specialist instead of attempting the treatment themselves. They're also honest: they tell you when they just don't know. You can tell that they all love the animals, and are committed to providing quality care. Also, these vets don't look for ways to nickel and dime you: if they can't fix it, they generally don't charge for it, and they can tell you what each item on your invoice was for, no frivolous charges. I highly recommend seeking service there. FYI, they also do grooming and boarding, and but you need to book early, as these services are in demand. the good thing about boarding there is they check the pets and often find things wrong that their owners didn't notice, and they can treat the pets while they're boarding if they get sick.
