My fiance and I have been taking our dogs here for about 4 years, we really liked them for years especially because they were cheaper than many places in town and the only draw back was they would take my dogs out of the room for exams. Well I called this morning to schedule an appt for my dogs foot, some lady answers with just "This is ------" in the rudest tone and I asked if I could schedule an appt. Before I could even say what it was for she's cutting me off going "Last name. Spell it" so I did and then gave my dogs name. She insists that she doesn't have records for my dog and then after she manages to find them she proceeds to lecture me on vaccinating my dogs regularly because "your dog hasn't even been vaccinated since 2016". Wrong, I got her vaccinated since then, I even have the paperwork for it. She proceeded to continue being extremely rude, couldn't even tell me the price of a routine exam or yearly shots without putting me on hold for awhile and then before I could ask a specific day she made the appt anyways and then when I was confirming it she hung up on me. I won't be going back, it's worth the extra money to have my dogs stay in the same room as me for their exams and to not be spoken to like that. Read Less

I liked Dr. Walker and when I lost my cat Sara she spent the needed time with me to make decisions regarding her care. I hated that they take the animal out of the room to do “vitals” and the vet examines them outside the room and then comes to talk to you about it. I also on one of my last visits there spent 20 to 30 minutes being lectured by Dr. Ellis on my choices for food for my cats and dog. This was sort of a deal breaker for me at this point. Read Less

OK we set this up on their one dollar fee. well Because my Daughter took her dog there in the past they told us the 1 Dollar Office Visit Did not Apply and tried to charge us more than the after hour normal charges of a regular visit. It was My Daughter who took her dog and paid for it out of her account, She is an Adult but due to the fact that shes still lives at Home we are penalized. during my daughters animal care they took her dog away from her and told her one fee then they did extra work and added the price without Authorization, Furthermore we discussed with them the fee One dollar which on the phone the lady was clear that it would be more money than that one dollar was just to get you in.the day of our Visit ( Ice storm) we called told them we would need to reschedule then called back said we were worried enough we would try to get there anyways after a harrowing drive they told us it would cost us more, ( I will never do business with these Liars again). they are Awkwardly Nice for the way they cheat the customers (here's a thought if they are this awful to their customers how do you think they will treat your pet...Hmmm I wonder. ) i give them one black star and a few other Punctuation's. I drive thru the snow and ice today to be told no I have to pay full price cause my adult daughter takes her dog there funny the irs won't let me claim her but i can use her credit to make my visit cheaper they didn't ask her but it was her credit card we left never to return Read Less

I have been a very good customer of Dr.Ellis since I moved here approx 4 years ago. Until my recent visit when I went up there and found out after I got my dogs yearly's, that they only offer 6 months deferred interest using care credit. I specifically remember them offering not only 6 but 12, 18, and 24 months deferred interest last time I went in. I kindly asked the woman up front if the 6 months thing was something that credit enforced and she told me yes. Well I come to find out that the the decision is actually @ the doctors discretion. Needless to say I was very upset. I will now be taking my pets to big country which is right down the street because they do offer all 4 financing options through Care Credit. Read Less

My wife took her dog there for many years and always thought she was getting the best care. 16 months ago her dog had a sudden illness or so we thought. Took him to Dr. Ellis who suggested an x-ray. Came back saying that he had enlarged heart and needed Vetmedin. Right at $100 a bottle. Two weeks had the exact same problem again and another bout this past Friday. Took her dog to my vet and was diagnosed with Vestibular Disease. Went and got x-ray from Dr. Ellis and took my vet. Who said that the dog DOESN'T have an enlarged heart and the med is probably causing the dogs arrhythmia. Never trusted a vet that does the exam away from the owner. Don't know if they are actually doing the work you are paying for. So my wife is out $1600 or so for medication that the dog didn't need. It seems all they care about is $$$$$$$! Read Less

I've been using Dr Ellis for years and Dr Walker who is now there, I've seen her several times. I have 4 dogs and it's been a rough year. We rescued 2 in November 2016, one we had to take in and she had an upper respiratory infection and tapeworm. They treated her. She then got a gastro infection, which they also treated. My miniature schnauzer had the same two problems at different times (gastro before we rescued the 2) and they treated him. All my dogs got well after treatment. I've called, they've gotten me in same day every time. Today my oldest and smallest dog (he'll be 10 in September) had dental surgery. He had to have 4 teeth removed and they cleaned them, I have pain meds for him and antibiotics as well. He was there for under 2 hours before I got a call saying he was no longer intubated and was doing well and I could pick him up this afternoon. He's home now, he ate dinner fine, he went out to potty. He's still just laying around but of course, he's hurting some and he's had a hard day. Every single time we go to them, I'm given an estimate of the cost of everything they want to do. I approve it or don't. I've never had any problems with them. My only thing is, I won't go in one certain exam room because in 2011 the dog I had since 1999 was so sick, she had cancer, and was put down there. They told me everything that was going to happen, gave me time to hold her and grieve. They had her cremated for me and gave me her urn with her name on it in the color of my choice. I have no complaints with Dr Ellis or Dr Walker. Read Less

I want to first start out with the staff was incredibly kind as was Dr. Walker (I believe that was her name). We came in on a Saturday morning with a cat with a probable snake bite. He was in a lot of pain and smelled quite horribly due to the tissue that was becoming necrotic. They did not examine the cat in front of me, which I would of preferred, and kept him in the back the entire time. The vet came and talked with us telling us it could be a snake bite, could be a spider bite, who knows. But that he should be fine and gave him a shot of antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory. The cost was not an issue as it was very affordable. We were very hopeful. Within 24hrs he was dead. The things that are concerning to me were: A: there was no thorough exam done on my cat. He should of been mildly sedated and the wound thoroughly examined. Had it been, the puncture marks would of been obvious (as a former vet tech I examined him post-mortem and saw the fang marks). Also, without a thorough exam who knows what that wound could of been. There could of been foreign objects in the wound, etc...I know he was not examined thoroughly because you could not even touch him without him freaking out and there was no way they were able to exam that wound completely. The would also should have been clean and debrided if necessary. B: He was severely dehydrated. Severely. His gums and ears were extremely pale and his skin tented when pulled. And anyone with medical knowledge knows that severe dehydration slows the healing process, increases heart rate and decreases blood pressure. All things this kitty did not need in healing from a snake bite. C: He was in extreme pain and no pain control option was offered. Now, I know the use of pain killers in animals in controversial and not all vets agree to use it, but when an animal is in that much pain, it is hard for them to heal. It was heartbreaking for me and my 10 year old daughter to watch our cat writhing in pain and meowing. Heartbreaking. His final minutes he spent completely writhing in pain, screaming loudly until he went into seizures and passed. One of the hardest things I have had to watch. I felt so helpless. I know no vets are perfect. I do believe she did what was quick, efficient and would probably fix 80% of the animals she sees, but sometimes slowing down is best. I never once said cost was an issue or implied we had little money to spend. Otherwise I would completely agree with the treatment she offered. It was a devastating loss as this cat was a gift to my daughter after our house burned to the ground and we lost everything. This kitty slept with my daughter every night and, in her words, was her best friend. I want to re-iterate that I am not saying this vet is bad. I am not saying they are incompetent. I am saying I really wish a little more time was taken on my kitty and if there was there is a high likelihood that he would still be alive.Read Less

My cat became extremely sick over the weekend so i brought her here hoping I could find out what was wrong. They insisted some tests be run on her. Once these results came back, they said she needed to be put down because her organs were shutting down. However, they couldn't tell me why. I decided this was the best option since my cat seemed to be in alot of pain and it was recommended by the veterinarian. They charged me $400, which i had to put on two credit cards because i was only working part-time at the time. I felt this was a lot, considering that no cause for sickness was given, even after extensive testing was done, and they had done nothing to prolong her life. I had just lost my father as well, so losing a pet of 8 years who was my best friend was equally as devastating. I asked to speak to the veterinarian regarding this. I had to sit in an exam room for 30 minutes with my deceased cat on my lap in a box. When the veterinarian came in, they said I insulted them for even disputing what happened and said they didn't know what "I" did to my cat before i brought it to them but I should be ashamed of myself. The veterinarian said "how dare you!" How dare I? They have no right to treat anyone like that, especially someone who has just lost their baby. How dare YOU! Please don't subject your pets to someone who clearly is in the wrong profession. Read Less

Was recommended to this place after previously being a client at the Ridgemont and Buffalo Gap clinics that I was not satisfied with. Really love the separate dog and cat entrances, I don't have carriers for my cats so it makes things go smoother for me. Upon setting an appointment I made a call with EXACTLY what my kittens needed and they were able to give me a "quote" of what my bill would possibly be. At the actual appointment they show you what services will be done and how much they cost BEFORE doing anything with your pets. I got to make the decision to hold off on some vaccinations because I knew I would not have enough money. They don't make you feel bad at all and have no problem modifying the invoice for you and showing you the new price. The prices here are of the lower that I have experienced, always a plus to anyone! The only reason I did not give a 5 star on this review is simply that they do all work behind doors. I understand this from a vet point a view and how much easier it is to keep all medicine and tools in the back but I like to be there and witness everything that happens. However, I will continue to use this clinic because that to me is the only downside. The $1 checkup is totally worth going but it will not be used for more than one pet! I brought in two kittens and only one got the discount. Don't be angry with that either, they promise the $1 discount to new "clients" meaning people. Plus $40 checkups are very inexpensive compared to other clinics. Love the people here as well! Very easy with the pets and helpful to the people. Really recommend this place to anyone! Haven't tried out all of their services but looking forward to exploring them with my 2 dogs and 4 cats :) Read Less

We have been taking our animals to this Vet for almost 20 years. It is the most caring, loving, understanding and patient Vet I know. They take time with your animal and love it almost as much as you do (no one can love your animal as much as you do). All their services (boarding, grooming and vet) are outstanding. The staff is above outstanding and the doctors are the best in Texas! Thanks for being my Chili's second best friend next to me! Since I wrote this review, our Chili passed of cancer. Dr. Ellis and staff was there with my husband and I and held our hands and cried with us as we said our final good-byes. You can't buy this type of compassion - he is the real deal. Two days later, we adopted from the shelter another baby and Dr. Ellis was the first stop. Of course he made time for him and made sure our new family member will have the same great care that our other four legged family members have had. Earlier today (11/24/15) my daughter brought our two cats in to the clinic. She called in advance this morning asking how much the total would be for both cats to have their vaccinations and office visit. I was with my daughter when she called and asked Cassie who told her $75 total. One of our cats is having a problem with her eyes (turns out its a upper respiratory infection), so she was there for this as well. Dr. Ellis saw and gave her two additional shots and eye ointment for treatment. Upon checkout, my 18 yr. old daughter was presented with a staggering bill for $289.43. Furthermore, the office visit and vaccinations that we were originally quoted wasn't actually $75.00; rather it was $157.46 (more than double). In regards to the treatment itself, my daughter was never given an estimate; rather she was just presented a bill upon checkout. When I called and asked why the incorrect quote on the $75 and why we weren't given an estimate for the additional items, I was told by both Cassie and Dr. Ellis that we didn't ask for an estimate and so basically this was our fault... how convenient. Running a service business myself, I am always upfront (and forthcoming) with my customers, so I'm unsure why Abilene Vet Clinic wouldn't conduct business as such. In the end, I was offered a $130 discount if my 18 yr. old daughter returned the ointment, but instead I chose to help her pay the bill to spare her the embarrassment. You may want to take our experience into consideration as we will be taking our pets elsewhere for vet care. Good luck! Read Less

This place is the absolute worst. I took my cat in because he couldn't pee and he was in a lot of pain. I was very, very worried and desperate. This vet was the closest to my house. I was seen promptly, and at first the vet was very nice. He told me what was wrong, which was what I had expected because it had happened to him a couple of years earlier. I didn't think it would be a big deal because before, the vet was able to take care of it and it wasn't too pricey, maybe $500 and I was able to pay it out. This time, the vet told me it would be at least $1000 with immediate payment. When I inquired about a payment plan, they said no, I had to apply for care credit. I got denied, and after I told them I didn't have $1000 all of their compassion disappeared. They coldly told me he was going to die without treatment, so I had 10 minutes to decide whether to take him home and let him die in pain or to have them put him down. I painfully made the decision to put him down and when I asked how much it would be, it was a staggering $180! I did not have that kind of money! Instead of having compassion, they told me I had to leave and also charged my last $45 for the visit. I didn't even have any money to get him put down anywhere else. I called the vet in Clyde and they said it would be $300 to fix him or $40 to put him down. I didn't have either, but my mother agreed to pay to have him euthanized. I will NEVER trust them with another pet ever again. Even if they couldn't help, they could have been more compassionate and not treat my cat like his life didn't matter.Read Less
