They are so helpful and kind with all their patients. They stay open longer hours some days bit I would still try to get there early as they are always busy. They do try to get you in and out as soon as possible. Clean waiting room as well. If you have a cat. I would recommend bringing them in a kennel as I have seen more dogs than cats. Love the Dr's at this place. I have been taking my fur babies there since 2009, however at the Front desk the check out is always backed up and check in empty. Oh man i found this place because of my goat got injury. So i called a lot of vet clinics but no vet accept goat except this place. They have on call vet for emergency after the hour. I went there to have my old dog, a companion for almost 15 years, put down as she was in a lot of pain.The entire staff could not have been more compassionate. It is a walk in clinic, but they took me promptly and allowed me as much time as I needed with her. They sedated her first which put us both at ease, and the actual euthanasia was quick and painless. I have never had any issues with Alvarado vet till yesterday. I'm still waiting for a call back. Everything went well till i got home and realize my dog was having a allergic reaction. I called them and got told the doctor is on lunch we'll have him call you back. In the mean time i asked what should i do? I was told I'll give the message to the doctor. While my dogs face is steadily swelling. Still no call. A person spends that much money and not even worth a phone call or let me go ask the doctor now what you should do. Our first experience was just other day and was excellent. Their prices can't be beat for dental cleaning. They all are very attentive from the moment you walk in til you check out. The front desk staff are very kind, the doctors are extremely caring and detailed in procedures. I didn't feel rushed and was able to spend time asking as many questions as I wanted. Pretty good place. They have after hours available, pricing is WAYYYY better than most vets in the area and emergency vet care is a lot better than those emergency clinics off i-20. They do not gouge you, accept care credit, and donations. They have resident cats roaming the office. They seem to care. One of the male vets nearly cried when we had to put a cat down that was a stray. Great vet. Been going to them for years. Just got a new puppy, a BT. As always they remind you that heartworm medication is a must and will prolong the life of my awesome little stud. If I could give this clinic a negative 5 stars I would. Absolutely horrible customer service. When we took our dog and told the vet that he was losing weight rapidly and not eating they just said that he was in perfect health, never did any testing not a damn thing. We took him back due to him still not eating dry dog food, he wouldn't eat ground beef , steak NOTHING but all the vet could say is that he is spoiled off human food that's why he's not eating anything, total bullshit. Had they done their jobs they'd know he wasn't healthy. So when we took him back AGAIN they finally ran test and what do ya know our dog has heartworms and full blown kidney failure! They not only failed to do their jobs but once the tests were done they came out into the waiting area in front of EVERYONE and told us "your dog is dying" then they said we should bring him in the next morning and have him put down. Most heartless group of individuals I have ever met. Needless to say if our dog passes they'll have one hell of a case on their hands considering they wanted to be lazy instead of doing things by the book. If you want your pet to live and have accurate check ups then DO NOT COME TO THIS CLINIC! This clinic has the friendliest and most professional staff I could hope for. Dr. Jones saved my Weimaraner's life when he was just a puppy. A few months later we were able to have our other older Weimaraner seen and treated for worms the same day that I discovered he has an infection. And most recently, Dr. Jones performed surgery for the older dog and spotted an unrelated infection in his paw. I knew he had injured his paw and was in pain, but that's happened before and he healed on his own. This time his paw needed more attention so I'm thankful to have a such an observant caring Doctor looking after both of our beloved dogs. He was prescribed antibiotics and is basically recovered now. I would highly recommend Dr. Tyler Martin. I live in North Plano but still choose to take my animals all the way to Alvarado to see him. Recently, my cat got really sick. She was in the hospital for almost a week and ultimately I had to have her put down. Dr. Martin communicated with me every day on her condition and explained what was going on in a way that I could understand. I could tell that she had nothing but the best care while she was there. When it came time to make a very difficult decision he gave me guidance while ultimately allowing me to choose what I thought was best. I use these vets because they are close, but no more. I was told once that they didn't make calls for goats. It paid the same as cows or horses, but she was not worthy of his time. She died. Today I carried my kitten in for injuries to his tail. They shaved his tail, and left huge razor burns, worse than the bites I wanted them to check. No ointment or meds were sent home with him. since he was returned to me in his crate I didn't know how badly they burned him. What was a sore tail ,was now burned and very painful. I will never put another pet thru that arrogant cruel treatment again. Read Less

I found this clinic when my dog got lymphoma in 2014. The doc didn't sugar coat anything and was up front. (Which I appreciate.)  In June 2015 my 6 week old foal got colic and the same doc got here in record time. He tried and tried to get a tube in her but no luck. He medicated her enough so we could load her and get her to a surgical center. She survived despite anyone's thinking she would. We have been able to take all our animals there and get great service. We usually see the same doc. If I have a question I can text him and send pics for advice. Even today he's doing an extensive lameness test on one of our horses who has a limp. They are very helpful, and the rates are better than other clinics. Read Less

DON'T BRING YOUR PETS TO THIS CLINIC! Over all terrible experience. They started my dog on treatment for demodex (very 7expensive shots once a week for 12 weeks) AND TOLD ME AFTER 8 WEEKS that the treatment might not even work and that if it didn't, they would start him on something else. My friends dog actually died after an over-the-night stay. The dog was in perfect shape but due to a lack of common sense, the dog was left within the vecinity of another dog that had mange. The dog passed away soon after. If you love you animals, go somewhere else! Read Less

I've had good and bad experiences with this office/hospital most of the bad had to do with receptionists though I was treated badly by a doc once also. I've had 5 kitties fixed there so one bad run in with a doc on my way out isn't so bad I guess. The office staff is another story incompetent to say the least. We first took one of our rescue dogs here for TPLO surgery. Dr. Beam did an outstanding job!  He was very explanatory, answered any questions we had, and did a fantastic job on the surgery.  Our dog recovered so well and you could not see the scar.  A year later her twin sister's knee blew out.  We took her and got hers done.  Again, pure excellence.  Almost six weeks ago we had a TPLO on the second knee and Monday are going back for a TPLO on the first ones second knee.  So far, he is 3/3!  The staff and doctor are extremely professional, polite, take their time making sure you are comfortable with everything and really work with your schedule.  We live 75 miles away and drive out there just to so that our dogs are taken care of by the best!  Thank you again Alvarado Veterinary Clinic and Dr Beam for the excellent care! My chihuahua got attacked by a German Shepherd and I tried another vet before this one because this is a 45 min drive from my house and immediately regretted that choice and came straight here. It made me give one star otherwise it would be zero stars...The Alvarado Veterinary Clinic is the most inept animal care clinic we have ever worked with. They prescribed a medicine to 8 week old puppies which cannot be administered until a puppy is 12 weeks old. They "upcharge" and recommend unnecessary treatment to make money. (Trifexis given to rescue puppies?)The practice of "upcharging", especially to a rescue organization, is unethical and frankly, callous. We love our vets here. While I wasn't initially fond of the "no appointments, only walk-ins" mentality, it's grown on me. Very few times have we had long waits (they are busy on Saturday mornings as they aren't open that long). The vets take the time they need to talk and explain things. treated a dog without owner consent that was non emergent woman put the bill in my name and they accepted that now i have to pay 100.00+ for things I THE OWNER did not consent to. ran unnecessary tests for a non existent cough and gave "just in case" antibiotics then did xrays without consent and gave worming medication to a dog that had already been wormed and was clean. ALL for a cough the dog doesnt even have. took the dog to MY vet and he was clear of EVERYTHING and despite the claim of "worms" and heart worms which he was treated for previously the tests i had MY vet run came up clean. i had quit taking dogs to this vet after ANOTHER incident involving my parents corgi which was spayed by them they said it would take a month or two for the stitches to dissolve. dissolve means LEAVE this dog is now 4+ months past her spay surgery and STILL has stitches sticking out! they refuse to do anything about it and still had the nerve to charge us! before that they identified my brothers dog that we told them had a scratch and that had an ear infection that the OPEN wound was ring worm -.- no it was a scratch because the dog was hurting himself trying to itch his ear until it bled...they tried to make me give my dog a second rabies show not a week after they had previously given the shot because they refused to acknowledge the records i gave them. DO NOT GO HERE THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF they do NOT know how to treat their animals they cant even identify a scratch from round worm Read Less

I am giving this clinic 1 star for one reason: Dr. Finley. The other doctors and techs are great, but Dr. Finley is awful. Do not trust him with your animals! After having a similar issue with him being condescending years ago, we requested any doc BUT him for years, with no problems. Today, I took my dogs in for shots, blood work, and teeth cleaning. I was assured that if anything came up (such as a necessary extraction) I would be called before anything was done. I got a call in the afternoon that everything went fine. Then when I arrived to pick up my dogs, only by reading the bill, I found out that Dr. Findley extracted 3 teeth from my one dog and didn't give them their shots. I was told that Dr. Finley would give them their shots while I was paying the bill, but no one could verify that this actually happened (though I was billed for it). When I was telling Dr. Finley how upset I was, he literally rolled his eyes at me. I told him how condescending he was being and he rolled his eyes again. That was it for me. As I said, the other doctors are really good, but it's not worth the risk of your animals ending up with Dr. Finley. After 9 years, I will be taking my dogs to a vet I can actually trust and who knows how to treat people. Read Less

Friendly Staff and Great Service!!! I have been there twice with my female cat. The first time was for her to have ear surgery for hemotoma, which she ended up staying over night for a couple of weeks ago. The second time was today to get the hemotoma sutras (stitches) taken out of her ear from that surgery. The staff was friendly both times and seemed busy for both visits. The staff held a comforting professionalism along with a caring concern for my cat's well-being. As for my female cat's ear... it is still a little irritated from the sutras being in her ear for 2 weeks and then from having them removed today too. She still wants to scratch at it and shake her head, which is partly how/why her ear blew up like a balloon in the first place. So I am hoping that this surgery she just had a few weeks ago puts an end to her ear misery and lets her enjoy the rest of her life. We will just have to wait and see after she heals completely to find out. Up to this point, I am very happy with Alvarado Veterinary Clinic staff and service. I will continue to take my animals to their place of business if needed for minor surgeries and no one else until other wise. It is going to be nice to have a regular vet that I can count on when my animals are in need of treatment. ;-) Yay! Read Less

I've been to the Alvarado Vet Clinic four times with horses and each time has been a bad/disappointing experience. From receptionists with terrible attitudes and apparent frequent memory loss, to techs who seem to not have a clue what is happening in their clinic, to the disdainful looks from the veterinarians themselves, each appointment has left me feeling like I wasted my time and money at this clinic. I've spoken with five friends in the horse industry who have had similar experiences - so at least I know it's not just me. The latest experience was the worst by far. After calling several clinics around the area to price a surgery, I chose Alvarado based on the price and proximity to where I live. Even though Alvarado is usually walk-in only, they told me I would need to schedule this particular surgery (cryptorcid stud colt). I called the following day and booked the surgery. They called me the next day to confirm the surgery. I called to say I was running late the morning of the surgery. I walk in the door and they act like they have never heard of me in their life. After unloading the scared colt, I got another speech about needing to book an appointment. I explained again that I had. Then the vet comes out, takes one look at my admittedly muddy (it was raining) and bleeding (banged his head in the trailer) and unruly horse (duh- he's a 3 year old stud) and I could see it in his face that he wanted nothing to do with me. Within 10 minutes he tripled the price they had quoted over the phone and offered to load him back up for me. All this after I had waited a week for the appointment time to arrive, spent an hour pulling my trailer out of the mud, spent another hour loading the colt, wasted an hour driving there, and spent $30 in diesel. They wasted me time, money and effort and my colt desperately needs to be "fixed." This clinic seriously needs an overhaul in attitude and a few classes in the treating of their customers. I've tried them four times. They will not get another chance. I have people ask me every week if I have any suggestions of where to take their horses. I will not ever recommend them again. Read Less
