My 14 year old chihuahua was injured very seriously. It was a life or death situation. The local emergency vet would not be open for 45 minutes so I was calling around looking for a vet to help her (my vet was closed). When I called, I explained her injuries and how serious it was. I was told it was "too close to closing time for the vet to see her and treat her wounds". I was however offer euthanasia because "there is time for that if i brought her in immediately". AMAZING service; more than I could possibly imagine for my "Woofer". Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable; willing to answer any question to the best of their ability. Dr. Hodges was INCREDIBLE. He thoroughly examined Echo, was considerate of his pain, was VERY knowledgeable about my Dog's surgical needs. The ER vet was dead-set on amputation; Dr. Hodges did not even mention it until I did. You could tell that he cared for my dog and his well-being; both at that time and for his future standard of living. He took the time to figure out the best surgical option and he worked a miracle! We still have a long way to go, but I am forever grateful that this Dr saved my dog's leg and did the best work he could ( which is phenomenal). I would also like to thank the techs who worked with Echo; when he came home it looked like he had received a bath and been brushed, even his nails appeared to have been clipped. First time there for my dog clinic visit was 90 blood test (heart worms) doctor check and 2 different kinds of liquid medicines all said and done visit was 360.00. Front office staff is busy, many questions about if you want this and that which all add up quickly but they are nice. Doctor comes in no introduction or asks how I am, goes straight to the dog and does his work. Testing was quick and in and out 25 mins from start to finish. Being the first time to this veterinarian you would at least expect a little friendly visit with the doc himself. I heard they are good but I also heard in town there are just as good and half the cost. Time to try another and see for myself. Suggestion is: try some interpersonal skills with your customers. Moved to Amarillo 3 years ago. Took my cat to another Vet here in Amarillo and was not impressed. Had a friend tell me about Coulter Animal Hospital. Dr. Hodges has been nothing but stellar. A couple weeks ago, we were talking about my cat hacking up a hairball weekly. He told me it sounded like food allergies. He recommended the Hill Z/D dry catfood......2 weeks later not one barf......stools are normal.....she likes the food and has to feel better without that stomach acid burning her throat. Read Less

Office staff were nice. Dr. Hodges though was rude and had poor bedside manner. With the way he pushed medications, and the rate at which people came out of exam rooms with bags of medications makes me wonder if he's in it for just the money. Read Less

Both Dr. Hodges and Dr. Kinser have treated both Missy and Lola. I highly recommend this vet clinic to all my contacts. My daughter takes her animals here now. Great job! I enjoy interacting with all of the staff. I'm terrible with names but all the techs are professional in knowledge and appearance. Dr. Hodges and the team were phenomenal. I appreciated that multiple attempts were made to help CC before a major blood transfusion was brought up as a last resort option. When the decision was made, it was carried out immediately. The care CC received was top notch and one of compassion for my dog and myself. It was very much appreciated. I think Dr Hodges would be better for someone with dogs or horses than he is for someone with cats. He's obviously very skilled and successful, but I ultimately stopped seeing him after he told me that he "doesn't see cats often" and that he "doesn't know much about cats." That would be ok except they're all I have. In addition to that, I found his rates to be higher than average-- I was quoted $450 to neuter our kitten, a service which cost 1/4 that much at another equally nice clinic in town. The office is very clean and well equipped-- Dr Hodges is able to perform a large number of procedures in-house. His staff is usually pleasant and kind. We first started seeing him when we found and adopted a stray kitten who had a number of health problems. I can't deny that Dr Hodges' care  helped our kitten grow into a healthy and happy part of our family-- I appreciate that very much, but he just wasn't right for us. Read Less

I moved here in 2009 and visited three other vet/boarding facilities before deciding on Coulter Animal Clinic/Hospital. Dr Hodges came to the facility on a day off over Thanksgiving to take care of my long-hair dachshound.
