I love your team! I can tell that everyone on the staff really cares. The front desk person (not sure what her name is) is super nice even when tons of people and pets are in the waiting room. She stays calm and friendly. The vets are caring and take the time to explain what's going on. The support staff are so nice and empathic. If you're looking for amazing service, a family friendly team and new friends for your puppy, then look no further. This group is amazing. Not only did they have a tremendous amount of knowledge, they went out of the way to treat me and my puppy like we were family. There's not the usual feeling of wanting to push something for money. I brought in my adopted tortoise to ask questions and get his beak checked. Everyone was super friendly, Dr. Bob was super knowledgeable and told me about his tortoises. I'm a college kid/first time cat owner so I was really hesitant to go to the vet because of all the fees involved with owning pets and I was certain I wouldn't be able to afford it. I finally decided to go to Best Vet and WOW everyone was so kind from the second I walked in and showered my little kitty with compliments. The vet I saw answered any and every question I had and gave me lots of tips and advice. The visit was affordable and I left feeling so happy knowing I finally got my kitty her shots and a vet! They even called me the next day to ask how Snowball was doing after her shots and her first visit and if I had any other questions or concerns. Love this place!! Really is the "Best Vet". I don't really live near their office, but I have 0 intentions of finding someone closer. They have helped my pup in MANY situations (allergies, teeth, back problems etc) and have always been quick to get him in. The techs know their stuff, as well as Dr. Bob and his wife. They are super affordable and aren't all about marketing techniques to get you to spend more money. This speaks volumes and shows that they truly care about their patients. Highly recommend. I had a great experience here. This is one of the few places in town that gives a reasonably priced rabbit spay. The doctors, techs, and receptionists were all very nice and professional. They always followed up with me on the bunny's recovery process via calls and emails. I had some concerns with my bunny's healing and they were able to check on her immediately. I came in to put my cat down after a previous trip to an emergency animal clinic. The staff was fast, professional, and affordable. Although this is a bit far from my home in South Austin, going here is definitely worth it! We came back from living abroad and my dog needed some serious dental work. Other vets were quoting crazy prices and didn't seem to even have an interest in my dog. However, when I looked up reviews for Best Vet, I decided to go up there to see and was definitely surprised! Not only were they much more affordable, Bob was great with my dog and really took amazing care of him while he was there. No doubt I will come back time and time again to have them care for my dog. Friendly practice, they really care about the animals. Prices are fair for visits and medications. I missed an appointment once and they didn't charge me or give me a hard time about it, which I appreciate. I have two cats and a dog. Haven't had many issues since I started going to Best Vet, but when one of my cats had a thyroid issue they did a good job of explaining the different treatment options and associated costs.Read Less

I've been taking my dog here since he was a pup and he's almost 4. Yesterday I took my 11 year old bunny for a fur and nail trim. They were AMAZING! I was more nervous than she was. They took their time, comforted her and took care of everything. I'm so happy they are our vets! Read Less

They don't listen and the receptionists are esp rude and obnoxious. I took my puppy in for her second puppy shots and specified that I only wanted a 5 way puppy shot. I specifically showed them I did not want my puppy getting a shot for leptospirosis because it's been found to cause seizures and other awful side effects in some dogs (especially smaller dogs like my little 1 pound chihuahua puppy.) What did they do? They gave her a leptospirosis shot, despite me having repeated that I only wanted the 5 way to the nurse, the receptionists, and the dr. They gave her a 5 way with an added leptospirosis shot... so basically not a 5 way shot and not what I asked for. When I called the receptionists later that day (I noticed the leptospirosis shot on the receipt), I told them I hadn't wanted that shot and she told me that all 5 way puppy shots at all vets include it and that leptospirosis shots have no side effects. I called other vets and AND did some personal research: and of course the receptionist was wrong. There's more than enough leptospirosis vaccine horror stories, and I quote "The so-called lepto vaccine has a reputation among both veterinarians and dog owners for causing a disproportionate number of adverse vaccine reactions." AND the 5 way shots do NOT always include leptospirosis. They are called 5 way shots because they have vaccines for 5 things: D A P P C. No L. (Using the first letters of them because it illustrates my point easier) Furthermore, I showed them the brand and type of shot that my puppy got for her first shots and told them that I'd like to get that one again if possible because she didnt have any bad reactions to it. They basically ignored my comment and told me not to worry about it. Surprise! She had a bad reaction to the shots they used. There's now a BIG and LONG lump across her neck where they gave her the shot. I felt like I was just a ghost in the building. My concerns were absolutely ignored and disregarded. And the fact that a receptionist RUDELY tried to educate me on how everything I'd heard and personally researched about the leptospirosis shot was not true.... and thinks she can tell me there's NO Side effect to a shot that's been known to cause several awful effects in dogs. Not happy Plus, they were very rough with her examination and the needle, despite my puppy being very calm and not struggling to escape. (She's only 1lb!) Only positive is that one of the doctors there was rly friendly and nice. But he was leaving as we came in. Read Less

Start to finish, the entire experience was excellent. My lab Dagmire had been limping and in pain.My vet was closed, Best Vet took us in with no appointment and treated us like family. Best Vet has been the greatest. I've used them for 12 years and haven't had one negative issue (2 dogs, 4 cats). You'd think that with as many animals that they see in a year they wouldn't recognize every one but even the techs know my dogs. They are a wonderful group of very caring doctors/staff. My Zeus-y was having a hard time with fleas, worms, and an ear infection and the staff at Best Vet really were the BEST. They cared for him and loved him and made me, a first time dog mama, feel at ease and taken care of. They understood our concerns, helped us and talked us through what we needed to know, and made sure our pup was well taken care of. I don't think I've ever met or been to a vet/vet clinic that has been this great to us, ever. I love y'all so much, this is my first ever review on FB. We have been going to Best Vet for over 10 years. They are very friendly and just love all the pets. Dr. Bob has a way with our dogs that seems to calm them when they're being examined. He doesn't like squirrels I guess because he's always trying to talk our dogs into chasing them. I recommend them highly. Nice jobs guys. Read Less

Four years ago my dog started breaking out in welts, itching and his eyes were red and inflamed. I took my dog to Best Vet and I was told it was most likely allergies. In Austin it makes sense, he was given a shot and I was told to try Zyrtec. He never got better, I must have visited the doctor every 3 months with the same treatment. This went on for years, I had tried other vets to get answers but they all said the same its allergies. So I would go back to Best Vet thinking its allergies and with the prices they have if I had to treat him for allergies I would try to be cost effective. I would ask about maybe going to a specialist and I was told that they wouldnt be able to do much other than find out what he was allergic to. Finally after getting my dog shots, changing his diet, cooking for my dog, trying every voodoo allergy method I could find online I looked at my dog he had bald spots, he was itchy, he was wearing a cone when I was out of the house, he was wearing sweaters to not scratch, he was unhappy. I couldnt let him suffer anymore and I need answers. I looked up a dermatologist in the area and contacted them, they told me I needed a referral. I knew Best Vet wouldnt give me one seeing as how I had asked about a dermatologist multiple times and they said no. So I went to a vet a friend recommended. The vet reviewed his past records, I kept my receipts, and gave me the referral. That day I made an appointment.They did a blood test and it turns out my dog has eczema, the vet gave me the pill to treat him and his quality of life has changed 100%. Years of watching my dog suffer and spending money on shots that never worked all because my vet was so sure that it was allergies. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago. My dog got an ear infection I asked my husband to set up an appointment with the vet, he set it up with Best Vet, I though fine its just an ear infection that cant be hard to treat they said he had a viral infection and gave us pills. He took them for 2 weeks and once they were done his ear was no better. He needed to see his dermatologist any way so I waited a week and saw them. They took a sample and said it was a bacterial infection and gave us drops. He has been on the drops for a few days now and he is much better. Im angry. I tried to do what was best for my dog. I had gone to multiple doctors and I trusted Best Vet, but I will never come close to that office again. Read Less

I have taken my cat here for 6 years. She was 1 when I adopted her and had not had proper kitten care. About six months after I adopted her, her front teeth began to fall out. It was near her checkup time, so I took her to Best Vet. Dr. Bob told me my kitty had allergies and breathed through her mouth a lot which gave her inflamed gums, and that is why her teeth feel out. It was all true. About 2 years ago, the tartar was building up, so she went on special food. It helped, but during the last visit it became obvious that her gums and teeth were terrible. I took her in for surgery and she is now back to better than ever, with only one canine, but much healthier gums. Read Less

No frills vet clinic with a no nonsense Doc. Came here w my cat first and now take dogs. Dr isn't the kind of Dr who practices "money medicine". He ensures you get only what you need at a reasonable cost. He's direct, willing to help and seems to have your pets best interests in mind. His staff is incredibly pleasant and always call the day before to confirm and the day after to follow up. Best Vet and Staff are truly AMAZING!!!! My husband and I and our Yorkie moved to Austin Texas from Southern Illinois and we were in need of a Vet for our LIL Boy. Last week was our first visit with Best Vet for his annual shots & check-up. After talking with Dr. Bob and staff last week we decided to take Dr. Bob's advice to have all of our Yorkie's teeth extracted as he had puss around his teeth. Friday the 3rd of July was his surgery. I was a nervous wreck about having this procedure done but talking to his nurse and staff-- I left feeling that LiL Boy was in good hands. After the surgery was complete Dr. Bob called to give me the update on our little fur baby. I honestly can say Dr. Bob and his staff truly care about your loved one they go above and beyond in making you and your pet feel comfortable... you can feel the love AND they are very reasonable on their pricing not trying to gouge you. We made an appointment for 4:30pm on Monday and we got a call back the next day asking us to change it to 4pm, because the Vet wanted to go home early. The day of the appointment we rearranged our schedule to come in at an earlier time, 4pm. We arrived actually at 3:10pm, early, but wanted to make sure we were seen on time, or earlier if there was a chance. We watched others with appoinments come and go, and then this lady walked in with a hampster and said she had a 4:30pm appt but they told her to come in by 3:50 or 4pm and they would fit her in. They took her back at 4pm which was SUPPOSED to be our time. The time is now 4:20 and the staff could care less that we are still sitting here after our time. SO WE LEFT and we will not return. They are more interested in getting out of the office and pushing more product upon customers....as we witnessed. WARNING ......your bill will be expensive by the time they are finished with ya.AVOID THIS PLACE, and find a caring staff that cares about you and your pet.Thanks for reading! Read Less

This clinic took my cat with no notice in an emergency situation. They were knowledgeable, expedient and patient with my 10,000 questions, and the bill was very reasonable. Our dog has been sick practically since we got him, if it's not his allergies than he's eating odd things that he shouldn't.. The only other name that would better suit this vet would be "PERFECT VET". I love this place!!! Everyone there is so caring & helpful. I had my dog Chuy for almost 5 years when he suddenly went paralyzed in his back legs. I was devastated!! A friend of mine recommended BEST VET, I took him there immediately. They did everything they could for Chuy (&me). Despite all their efforts Chuy did not get better & the only other thing they could do would be a surgery that may or (more then likely) may not work. I finally had to make a horrible decision....I had to let my little Chuy go to a better place...he had completely lost control of his bowels & was not eating or drinking. I was a mess!! I cried & cried and they were so supportive and made me feel as comfortable as I could with the whole situation, they took me into a room with Chuy so other pet owners could not see me, they gave me time to say my good byes, they hugged my dog & told him he would be ok. THE WHOLE STAFF CARED!! they called & checked on me, they sent a sympathy card, they were just awesome!! Now I have a new doggie, Daisy. She is beautiful & loving. I also brought her to Dr Bob to have her shots and her spay. Again, they loved her! They gave her hugs, they pet her & made her feel comfy when we got there. Her spay was amazing....I can barely see the incision, she is happy and ready to go play!!! Just as if she had not even had a surgery!! I will never go to another vet!! They are honest, straight forward, great prices, & act like real people that love animals!! No corporate B.S.!!! Thank you BEST VET!!! You are PERFECT in my book!!!! Read Less

We have been using these guys since we bought our first pug in 2008 (we had two pugs for a while, but they were territorial over our new baby so we gave one to our close friends...can you tell I still feel guilty about it?) I cannot tell you how wonderful they are. First of all I'm always impressed that the staff has not turned over (aside from one receptionist that left to have a baby) at all in 3 years. Every staff member seems genuinely concerned about our pugs, yet they are never overly familiar or come across as too nice. These guys have done a wonderful job taking care of our pugs. I have a 11 year old rescue chihuahua named coco and she needed some dental work done. I was looking for a new vet and luckily I found Best Vet and Dr. Bob and his wonderful crew. Its the first time I have ever brought my little girl into a vet and she was happy to be there which was the first great sign that I had found the right place. Everyone there was sooo nice! My initial estimate for coco's extraction of 4 teeth was an excellent price and come to find out she had to have 22 teeth taken out and they only charged me 20 dollars over the estimate, WOW now what other vet would do that??? None that I had come across ever so because of their true love for animals and obviously not in it for the money I would say Best Vet is true to their name. I came across Best Vet by chance several years ago when my pup got parvo. I was on my way to Banfield (Petsmart's) Pet Hospital when I passed Best Vet & decided to see if they could help me out. They fit her in immediately, without an appointment, and charged 1/3 of the price that Banfield would have. They were also willing to work out a payment plan if we couldn't pay that day. The whole staff was very positive & reassuring, & informed me that they had never lost a dog to parvo! We moved on the other side of town, so when our new puppy got sick last week we decided to check out BHC Animal Hospital for convenience. What a mistake! They charged more than double Best Vet's prices & when I brought up parvo the vet told me the survival rate is only 50/50!! Not to mention the staff was very rude & they tried sucking as much money as they possibly could out of me! Best Vet has never tried to rip us off, instead they are constantly wavering fees out of sheer courtesy. I will never make the mistake of taking my pets to any other vet! Read Less

I have lived in Austin my entire life, and have been to my fair share of vets. Dr. Bob and his staff are friendly, down to earth, and they don't try to up sell useless test and products that you really don't need. They are genuine and truly care about your pets, no matter what you bring in. My menagerie of four legged children include a hamster, ball python, and a classic ""caution"" cat. Even though my cat wants to eat everyone in his path while he's there, they still treat him if he was their own. The prices are fantastic too! It's a far drive for me, but well worth it! Read Less

can't believe how completely awful I feel. Best Vet in Austin is the WORST place to EVER take your loved pets! I had gone through a terrible time with my sweet, sweet Capezio and had to make a very hard decision to put him down. The vet let... me and my husband take a couple of days to decide what we wanted to do with his body, and said that he would offer a free of charge option along with the other options available. After one day of discussion, I called the vet and spoke with a lady at the front desk and told her our decision. We were going to take the vet up on his offer to take care of things and I asked for my final bill. Unfortunately, the check I wrote (along with a thank you card that obviously isn't going to get mailed now) got shuffled into a corner of my desk. Instead of sending a letter or a courtesy phone call, the vet called my husband OVER A MONTH LATER saying that they never heard from us!!!! They still have my sweet baby boy frozen in a plastic bag at the vet AND are now saying that our bill is twice what was quoted to me. Needless to say, when I called them there was no I am so sorry and we totally dropped the ball and yes you did call and we did nothing about it. Our dog had surgery, and was released back to us after being injected with an opium cocktail. He could not walk or stand. He urinated on himself several times, could not sleep and was confused. When my husband returned home with our dog, I asked him how he got the dog in the car, ""they carried him"". We carried him up three flights of stairs to our apartment and for 8 hours our dog was obliterated. Several weeks later, his stitches were removed and in the office, he was playing with another dog and his wound popped open leaving a giant hole in his neck. My husband had to bring him back an hour later after he told him the ""hole would close and heal eventually and that's just what dogs do"". Today was the last straw. We made a 10:30 appointment, the vet came out to the waiting room and discussed with us the same ear problem our dog has had since his surgery, all of his theories so far have not fixed or healed the problem. He asked what surgery he had performed as if we hadn't just shelled out over $500 dollars and seen him less than two weeks ago! He did not even look in the dog's ear. He said he would prescribe something else and we didn't even need to see him. A vet tech would give his first dose and that would be it. 35 minutes later, after no one said a word to us regarding anything, I asked the receptionist if she could find out what was going on. She came back with the vet who told us that he would solve the problem by ""firing us"" as if we were lovers and he wanted to get the last word in. This vet is a cheaper way to go, but to make money he is doing as many surgeries as possible and every day. It is a factory for cheap surgery. There is no follow up, no actual tender caring, and the place seems to be run by a space cadet who needs to come back down to reality and realize that the patient is always first. I have never had a vet return a pet to me that could not stand on its own! Please do not use this vet. Read Less

My 9 yr. old Siberian Husky, Aries, had a nerve sheath tumor growing on his hind leg. We took him to a vet near our house, who after charging us $800 to cut him open and do nothing, said the tumor was inoperable. We wanted a second opinion so we took Aries to several different vets including a surgeon and two different oncologist, We were given the same two choices by each of the doctors we visited they said we could either chop his leg off, for around $3000, or put him down once the tumor got so large that it either broke through his skin or it started to inhibit his ability to walk. We decided to make him as comfortable as possibly for the time he had left. Then one Friday I came home from work to discover that his leg was bleeding. We wrapped the exposed tumor and decided to enjoy our last weekend with him the best we could before we would have to take him in Monday morning to be put down. When we took him to the dog park on Saturday afternoon another dog owner noticed his bandage and after hearing his story suggested that we take him to best vets. When we called his oncologist Monday morning the receptionist informed us the doctor would be out of town till Thursday but they suggested we take him to see someone to make sure his open wound wasn?t getting infected so on a whim I called Best Vets. Dr. Bob took one look at him and said ?I think we can take it (the tumor) out?. After over a year of being told there was nothing we could do it was nice to finally find someone who would at least give our dog a chance to live. It?s been two months since Aries surgery and he?s doing great. He's back to running and playing, and the whole surgery including all of the follow up visits ended up costing us less than the first vet charged us to doing nothing at all. I can?t believe how cheap and great this Vet was. Every time I chase my dog around our back yard I thank god we found Best Vets. I am not exaggerating when I say the Dr. Bob at Best Vets saved my dogs life. Read Less

I took my cat here because I had some concerns, but Dr. Bob was so kind and gave me straight answers (pretty much that I had very little to worry about). My old vet would tell me terrible things in hopes of convincing me to buy more meds or tests! I had to wait quite a while to be seen, but I did not mind because I wasn't in a hurry. However, I was still given a discount on my visit because of the wait. I also had to get some medication to sedate my cat because I am taking him on a plane and I was so pleased that Dr. Bob was so thorough with his directions and the medications were VERY reasonable. This office is pretty far from my house, but I will continue to make the drive to guarantee my cat the best treatment. Read Less

When my little pooch hurt herself, I took her in and initially spoke with one of the unlicensed assistants. He was comforting and made sure to let me know that he did not yet have his license, but seemed very concerned about my Sofi. He thoroughly examined her and gave his assessment. He also wrote very detailed notes and listened well. When the doctor arrived in the room (not too long after the assistant left the room), he made his assessment and gave me options. He gave me the worst case scenario, but decided that it was probably something not so grave (like a stroke). He, too, was thorough and friendly and fair. I was glad that he didn't try to stick his hand in my pocket and diagnose some terrible injury. She walked away with some steroids and is doing much better. I was also impressed that someone from the office called my house to get an update on Sofi's progress. I'm glad I found a good vet in Austin that isn't ridiculously priced. I love best vet. We have been taking all 5 of our dogs there since we moved to Austin over a year ago. The staff is polite and always knows my pups by name, and the doctor has a great disposition.
