Capital Veterinary Clinic

Austin, Texas
General Info
Capital Veterinary Clinic delivers veterinary care to pets in Austin and across Texas by adjusting visits according to animals' responses to touch pace and noise. The initiation of intake processes never begins through the completion of forms. The staff monitors the animal's entry by noting if it pauses, circles, vocalizes, or shifts its weight toward the door. The clinic monitors reactions to determine whether to implement a slow approach quiet staging or quick triage based on stress levels. Medical assessments examine balance control alongside ear tension while evaluating skin warmth and hydration levels together with fur texture and oral response patterns alongside breath patterns and handling resistance. Diagnostic processes rely heavily on owner feedback which drives discussions about pet health by examining sleeping positions alongside seasonal behavior changes and appetite shifts together with recent avoidance patterns. Capital Veterinary Clinic offers an extensive array of services including wellness checks, urgent care, geriatric mapping, weight stabilization plans and pain indexing. Services for pets needing shorter activity periods can be split into several visits. A full-day staggered approach with interspersed breaks might prove advantageous for certain individuals. Families using this model can prevent retraumatization in animals that are noise-sensitive and post-surgical or have previous fears. The planning phase after visits incorporates guides for body language interpretation alongside emotional response scales to track at home. Owners should modify their communication methods along with their schedules and daily habits to support post-care decompression. The establishment of follow-up actions depends on behavioral readiness instead of fixed schedules. Capital Veterinary Clinic delivers a veterinary rhythm to pet families in Austin and nearby Texan communities that promotes physical healing and emotional self-regulation while maintaining clinical precision.

You can feel a difference here. Every staff member and vet cares about you and your pet. At every single visit. Its a high functioning team that takes the time to listen to your concerns and asks questions to get to the root of the issue. They educate you on pros and cons of treatment options and will work with you on costs to meet your budget. Throughout the four years of taking my old dog here, I would frequently get calls to check in on him after treatment. I highly recommend the clinic to anyone who wants quality treatment coupled with true compassion. Regarding the walk in policy: There are some complaints on the walk in policy and I always felt I could be seen quickly in the morning if I planned ahead. I recommend checking in between 7:30 to 8 and then grabbing a breakfast taco at Casa Maria around the corner. Odds are when you get back at 8:55, you will be taken straight to a room. Even if you have an appointment at other places, you could end up with a long wait or not get an appointment for a week or more. Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays are naturally busy - if it isn't urgent, go midweek. I also found it helpful to call before bringing my pet in to check on wait times. Read Less

These guys are awesome. The Drs are friendly and informative, and they are sensitive to cost - suggesting more conservative treatment first instead of expensive tests or surgeries. With that in mind, they will tell you if a test is required and I have even been referred to another facility when Capital felt the other place could do a better/faster job. Overall, they seem more concerned with your pet's health than the health of their bank account. One thing I will add is the first come first serve system may not work for everyone. I have not had a problem yet, but since the business has grown, that may be a consideration for the owners. My best advice is get there right when they open. Read Less

I've been here a few times over the past 1.5 years and I have been very satisfied every time. My dog, Max, is a sweet 70ish pound Blackmouth Cur, who gets very anxious around other dogs, so the couple times we had to wait in the waiting room, he was loud and whiney, but the nurses were all very understanding. Max, and the one time we brought my mom's dog in for an emergency, has always been seen by Dr. Sanders. I can't speak highly enough about him. He has plenty of experience and does not jump to putting a dog on treatment or medicine if he doesn't really believe that it is necessary. He speaks calmly, both Max and my mom's dog have taken to him very well. Read Less

The staff and veterinarian's are wonderful people who love their job based on how well my dogs have been cared for and treated over the past 20 years of bringing them to Capital Veterinary Clinic! Been going here for 10 years. The best "common sense" veterinary care in all of Austin. I know cause I've been bringing animals to vets in austin for the past 30 years, Capitol is hands down is the best place for routine care. There is always the specialty hospital for advanced surgeries, but I trust Sanders and Scroggs with anything my pets have ever needed. I find peoples expectations of veterinary care is sometimes skewed because of their emotional attachments. That's why I like the common sense approach that I've always seen at capitol. Read Less

Starting out, I must say that nearly every 1-star review was from a customer that could have prevented the problem in the first place, or chosen to deal with it in a more positive, actionable manner. I challenge people to rule out low information pet owners on a crusade who paint foul language into their review. That's disgusting and I've flagged the user. Saturday was my first experience. Without getting detailed, I am a cat owner. Both of my cats were having issues -- one of them very sickly -- and now they are both good and well. The walk-in process went well. I got there at 8AM. The follow-up visit I made later that day took 45 minutes to wait. Anyone here that's complaining about "continuity of care", or lack thereof -- maybe you ought to check in at the desk for your Doctor and wait like the rest of us!! I like Dr. Scroggs. And I see that he is taking a pro-active approach to managing the clinic's social media. That alone, in and of itself, separates him from others. Then you read the content of his posts, and understand how much he cares. I went there because I live in the neighborhood. I strongly suggest you consider this clinic for the care of your loved pets. They're good people. Read Less

The receptionist was very rude and had me in tears because she was more worried about the clients waiting in the office over my sick puppy that i had to leave in the car! FINALLY when it was ok for me to bring my puppy in she was tested for parvo and the test was negative! I thought thats good news well the vet said it was negative but he thinks its still parvo. I have never been so disappointed and disgusted! I will NEVER take my dog back to this vet clinic. I have been taking my lab to this vet for years, primarily because of the location and reasonable pricing. Dr. Sanders is the only good thing about this practice, but unfortunately he only works a few hours a week. The service, reliability, and organization of this vet has completely done a 180 and is now horrible and untrustworthy. I took my dog in a while ago to have surgery; at the time he was on a daily medication. After his surgery I asked multiple vets, vet techs, and office staff at Capital Vet if he could continue taking the medication. They all said yes. The next day I had to rush my dog to the emergency clinic because he was throwing up and pooping blood uncontrollably. After hours of tests and hundreds and hundreds of $$ spent, the ER vet informed me that it was the medication (that was OK-ed by the entire staff) that was making him so sick in conjunction with his recent surgery and post-surgery medications! When I brought this up to Capital Vet I was brushed off and never addressed. Furthermore, my mother has had some continuous problems with her dog. She has taken her in multiple times to be check out and evaluated. Many times my mother and her dog were written off and proper testing was not taken because of double-booking, not enough staff, not enough medicine, etc. etc. She just took her dog in again and the Vet finally took the time to properly evaluate her dog, only to tell my mom that her dog is terminal. Mind you, terminal now because the proper testing/medications were not done and given years ago because of the clinics incompetence and constant miss-communication. I will never go back to this place, nor should you! Read Less

If eubanks had not done teh surgery our cat would have died due to teh potatoes were swelling up inside the cats stomache which was causeing the cat to not have room for any air to survive, thsi was a VERY expensive surgery and we wernt able to pay immed so the clinic let us do a 1 time payment plane which they usually dont do and now we have our kitty till this day, i STRONGLY reccomend this clinic to anyone. I have a 15 year old Schnauzer and he was having some severe arthritis problems about a year ago. I thought it was the end. The doctor had a sixth sense with my dog and assured me he was fine. He looked at me and said ""I am getting old and I have aches and pains too."" He then went on to say he could run all kinds of tests on him if I wanted to. Instead he sent me home with some Remadyl and all has been well for the past year and a half. ALL other vets in the Austin area would have taken advantage of me and taken me for a $1000 plus. that would be fine if it were necessary. I have the money. They are old school vets who realize these are animals. Their calm and conservative approach is just what I need to keep my mental health. And when I feel good, my dog feels good. To the naysayers, keep going to the stupid, young female vets who are instructed on how to run up bills. I guess it makes you feel better when you spend more money on your dog. It doesn't necessarily do the dog any good. I guess I can make that statement since my Schnauzer is 15 and is still going strong. Read Less

I have seen this Vet Clinic on my way past for a few months now and avoided it based on appearance, versus what I am used to seeing (expecting) in a Vet Clinic. After speaking with several of my friends I decided to give it a try. I took my puppy in for his first set of vaccinations. The place was exactly what I have been looking for since moving to Austin. They are relaxed and comfortable with no high pressure sale tactics like other Vets I have been to in town. The bill was less than I was expecting. Speaking with the Vet was not rushed or intimidating. They are honest and not out to make a quick buck. They will talk with you straightforward and only recommend what is in the best interest of the animal, regardless of whether you will use them or go to another clinic. I will definitely make this my Vet. Regarding the bad reviews: I'm not sure I would be so quick as to call the receptionist rude after witnessing her juggling 15 things at once. She was working with people who had just lost a pet, people with injured pets, phone calls, walk-ins and cashiering. I think she is just ""to the point"" without the so-called customer service attitude that so many corporations think they are giving their customers. For me, I'd rather have the cut-and-dried as opposed to the fake smile and gritted teeth of someone being forced to act in a certain way. This place is awesome!! I was told by Wells Branch Pet and Bird clinic that my puppy had kidney failure and she needed fluids and antibiotics and the minimum deposit would be 400 and cost would probably be higher after treatment. I love my puppy and cost was extreme so I spoke to some dog lovers in Austin the same day and I was told about Cap Vet Clinic. I took my puppy in the very next morning. Cap Vet Clinic kept her for 6 days and they got her to eat and her tests kept coming back better and better. The doctor called me everyday, sometimes twice a day when testing was done. Also, he kept me upraised of cost to let me know how much it would cost everyday because he knew I wanted to save my puppy but didn't have much money. This place was great with my puppy. The staff was okay and the place looked clean. My main focus was helping my puppy so I didn't bother with other details. We had just moved to Austin from Dallas when our dog developed a bladder infection. I panicked. But, because it was the weekend, we resorted to the emergency pet hospital. They gave us antibiotics for the infection and recommended I take my dog to a vet after two weeks on the meds. We chose Capital because they were close by--wrong! The vet said she had bladder stones and that they would need to come out. The surgery was performed two days later. I dropped her off at the time they told me to but I had to wait in queue for all the regular patients who were there just for routine care. I guess that might have been a sign as to what the rest of the day would be like. In Dallas, where my other dog had surgery, the vet kept me updated constantly throughout the day either by text message, email or phone. After the surgery was over, she talked to me personally at work to let me know the surgery went well. At Capital, I HAD to CALL THEM! I had not heard anything from them by 1 P.M.. When I went to pick my dog up that afternoon the line again was out the door with people everywhere claiming what little seating there is. I guess I was not going to talk to the doctor but the receptionist could not get the printer to print out a receipt so he had to come out of the examining room. In passing, he told me that my dog had stopped breathing during the surgery but that he had been able to resucitate her! I believe that was unethical and especially unprofessional for me to hear that with a room full of people--not that they cared. They just wanted to get in and out. Since they don't take clients by appointment, it's whoever gets there first. Don't subject your pets to this clinic. Go somewhere else like I've done. Read Less

Capital Veterinary Clinic

Austin, Texas
(47)
4800 S Congress Ave
Austin Texas 78745

Read Less

Read Less

I had a siames cat that was having trouble eating, going to the bathroom, you name it and it was going on, this cat was a family member of ours that we truly loves, when curtis sanders had Dr Eubanks working for his office, mr eubanks immed knew he had to do surgery (where as another vet i went to said let it fly the cat will be fine), eubanks did surgery - opened up my cats tummy and pulled out 2 full hand fulls of uncooked potatoes, turns out our cat got on teh stive and ate (or tried to eat) some potatoes that we were fixing to cook while we werent looking.

Not for big city types who expect the world to stop when they walk in the door. Read Less

Trust me after going to Wells Branch Pet and Bird Clinic this place went above and beyond to save my puppy and save me money. I highly recommend Cap Vet Clinic because they saved my puppy and my family and I are very greatful!! Read Less

Read Less
