They basically just want your money. We have 2 dogs and went here a few times before we realized they they were constantly giving us mess after meds after meds. We decided to try another vet out and they indicated our dogs did not need to be on all of the medication prescribed. 2 years later and still doing very well. I also went in to pick up a prescription dog food that our dog has been in since he was a puppy (now almost 15 years old). They have sold it to me in the past but told me today that they could not sell it because our dog has not been seen there in 2 years, even though we have a prescription from our other vet. Again, it's all about the money for them. Very disappointed. Read Less

I have been taking my pup to Crystal Mountain, specifically for holistic services, sporadically for a few years.  My little one is older and in need of various services from various providers.  I have never hesitated to provide services to my pup or deny him care due to cost; however, I will draw the line if I feel like we are paying for unnecessary testing or being taken advantage of.  After some expensive testing, medications, treatments, and vet visits last month (which included an examination and acupuncture at Crystal Mountain) I decided to schedule another appointment at Crystal Mountain - just for acupuncture - on the one Saturday of the month that the vet is there.  I was under the impression that I would not have to pay for anything other than the acupuncture appointment - my pup was just examined six weeks before. When we were checking out, I was deeply disappointed and extremely frustrated to learn we were charged another examination fee.  Other than a 3-5 minute discussion on the status of my pup's health, there was no exam.  No eyes were checked, no teeth or gums were examined, no temperature was taken.  Nothing.  With our history spanning several years, I expected to be accommodated for this fee.  Sadly, I was not.  It was then that I realized that this vet, like so many others I have come to avoid, is all about nickel-and-diming their patients.  Rather than maintain a good relationship with a regular patient, the preference was to get an extra $40.  Going forward, I will be taking my little one to Love Pet Hospital, where the acupuncture treatments are more than $20 less and the drive is a good 15 miles less.  I know my pup and I will both be happier. I adopted my dog at 10 years old, and her original vet was Dr. Vandermause. I respected his opinion at first, and got my dog's shots up to date. It was pricey, and it's really far out of town. Staff was nice, and I was out in no time. However, the second time I returned since my dog was having some issues. They ran some stool samples, and then listed a lot  of additional tests that they thought was needed. I reviewed, and told the assistant let me think about this. She looked baffeled, and was INCREDIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL about my response. The doctor returned, and showed his concern that she needed these tests. And I told him I don't think these tests are necessary. I understand it's a business and they want to get as much money out from you as possible, but the way the doctor and his assistant treated me after I rejected the tests, was uncalled for. They were super cold to me, and I just wanted some friendly advice. He wouldn't even help me out, and shrugged at me. I will never come back again, and I will never refer this hospital to anyone. Location! Location! Location! The location of the vet made me want to like it, even though they nickel and dime you for everything. Make sure to double check what your pet needs before coming in. Today was my last time. Over the weekend we adopted a new puppy. I called Crystal Mountain to make an appointment for a checkup since two of our other dogs go there. Talking to the receptionist, I told her we adopted a puppy and would like to schedule our first free visit. She said that would not be a problem. I had also told her that he would need his puppy shots (these would obviously have to be paid for). Upon arriving, everything seemed normal (as it did with two other dogs we have) but when we went to check out, there was a surprise charge of $47.50. The charge was for the first visit we were told would be free. No estimate was provided for any of the shots or the checkup, just a surprise bill at the end. No wonder with over 36 years of experience they only have two reviews before this one. Read Less

This vet markets himself as ""east meets west"", which is well and good, but it's been taken too far. My dog has arthritis, and the vet here said he would benefit from acupuncture and be all better. These acupuncture treatments are a couple of hundred dollars each, and you have to go to several. After being disappointed with the lack of improvement in my dog, I took him to another vet, and after a quick exam and a $30 bottle of Curaflex bonlets, my pup is dramatically improved. Dr. V never even suggested this route. Also, this clinic will suggest ""alternative"" heartworm prevention therapies, which don't really work. Sorry, but immune support won't stop heartworms from infecting your dog, and you'll pay hundreds to treat your dog for heartworm infection, which is lethal if not caught. If you care about your pets and want the best, scientifically supported therapies, then go elsewhere. I use herbal supplements in my dog's food, and they do carry a great brand of food here, but sometimes Western medicine works better. And is a hell of a lot cheaper. Makes me wonder if they're just after a fatter bottom line. My neighbor boarded her dog there, and it came home with a nasty case of runny stool and a hefty bill for the necessary meds. The receptionist told my neighbor the stomach flu was ""going around the kennel"". So this place is responsible for not keeping the kennel clean, and my neighbor had to pay for it!! And unless you live waaaay out west, don't bother. This place is really far away except the few of us that live near it. I would say entrusting your pet to this place is dangerous and costly.
