This is one of the best Vet clinics in the area. Our family has taken our dogs here for years and they always treat our pups really well, whether if it’s for regular check ups, grooming, boarding, etc. We had to put one of our dogs down about a month ago due to old age and complications. They gave us plenty of time to say our goodbyes and thoroughly explained the process. A couple days later we received a card signed by the entire staff from the vet clinic with a sweet message inside. They take the time and effort to get to know your animals and it shows that they truly care about them. Hill Country Animal Hospital will always be the place I take my pups. Update: Just received a notice from Texas A&M University (where everyone at our family graduated from). It said a donation was made in the name of Bryce, our former dog, to support the vet school there. Hill Country Animal Hospital is the best! Not only are they great at taking care of my dog's medical needs at an affordable price, but they have a great daycare set up. My dog comes here for daycare 2x a week and she loves it so much. The dogs are grouped by size and temperament and are monitored closely by the staff throughout the day. She is exhausted from running around all day with her dog friends and it keeps her well socialized and happy. Lucy, my seven year old Siamese cat, returned to her lively self after her visit to Hill Country Animal Hospital. I came here yesterday and saw Dr Kemnitz and was so pleased. Everything went extremely well from booking my appointment as a new patient (not to mention I called at 2:30pm on a Friday on got squeezed in at 5:30pm) to checking out, which they do in the exam room to make things easier and faster. I'm all about efficiency and this place was spot on! The staff is all very young but extremely on it and organized. I was really impressed by how quickly they checked us in, brought us into a room, and were seen. The vet tech came in first and asked a few questions about our issues. My dog had some bad diarrhea for a few days and one episode of vomiting, so I was pretty worried. They ran some tests and then made some recommendations but I declined a few and they were pretty accepting to my feedback. I felt like the vet was extremely compassionate and took his time answering all my questions and told me exactly what to look for over the next few days. I'm pleased to say the two antibiotics he prescribed worked perfectly and she's back to eating and pooping normally. I think I might switch vets after this appointment. Thanks everyone! Read Less

My family and I have had outstanding experience with Hill Country Animal Hospital. A friend recommended them to us a handful of years ago when we moved to Austin, and we have been taking our dogs to them since. Their location is a bit of a drive from our south Austin home, but we're happy to make the trip. Dr. Holcomb and every veterinarian we have seen at Hill Country are careful and attentive, and we are confident we can rely on them not to try to overcharge or add in extra services or treatments that our animals don't need. When our dog needed a leg operation, Hill Country was happy to refer him to one of the best specialized surgeons in the area, even though Hill Country could have pressured us into having them perform a simpler version of the operation instead. I  entrusted my precious yorkie to Ms Amy Michelle Toth, DVM at Hill Country Animal Hospital and now she is DEAD. On Thursday night my yorkie only ate half her dinner which concerned me a bit.  Later, she drank some rice milk.  Friday morning she drank more rice milk but didn't want to eat.  She was able to follow me down my stairs and even ran to be sliding glass door to bark at the next door neighbors dogs passing by.  That morning I did notice she had bloody stools and it being Friday I thought I would bring her in for a fluid/nutrition injection and medicine. I brought one of my yorkie's stools to be checked.  When Ms. Amy Michelle Toth, DVM came in she appeared to be in a hurry and did not take very much time with me.   Her and the assistant  took my baby in the back to draw some blood and check her over...however, they didn't run a culture on the stool.  When she returned to the room, she said x-rays weren't necessary and all of her blood work came back fine but she wanted to keep her over the weekend and hook her up to an IV to give her some fluids for dehydration.   I told her that was not a good idea due to her having severe separation anxiety.  She said she had yorkies growing up and she was very familiar with the breed and everything would be fine.  I reluctantly agreed because after all she was the vet and suppose to know best.  She acted like she was in a rush  and didn't spend much time with me when she hurried out.  I did not feel like she valued or what I had to say...and that her manner was abrupt.  I just thought maybe she had a lot going on.  So, I left.  I only live 1 1/2 miles from your facility and by the time I arrived home my husband said someone from your office wanted to speak to me.  I answered the phone and a lady told me my precious baby had just stopped breathing when they were inserting the IV and was thought to be dead....but  Ms. Toth was trying to revive her.  She was fine the whole time I was there.....and within minutes of me leaving my dog is dead?????  Something is seriously wrong over at that office.  I spoke to Ms. Toth and so did my husband.  She said all of her tests came back fine and she had no idea as to why my beloved dog suddenly stopped breathing.  As far as I an concerned she was rushing things that day and must have made some kind of error in action or judgement that resulted in my precious baby to die. I feel she didn't insert the IV correctly either leading to a air bubble or blood clot causing the death of my precious dog. I do think she is to blame and responsible for the death of my little dog...perhaps inadvertently, but nevertheless my dog is now DEAD!!!!!  You have no idea the pain and suffering my husband and family are going through due to the ineptness of Ms. Toth.   I just don't want her to cause the death of  anyone else's pet devastating another family.  Also,  what about my family???  Our special little girl and such a big part of our family.   We have been shattered and in so much grief ever since.   Several of our friends have never seen us so completely broke.  They are also angry and have suggested we should seek legal council regarding this matter.   We have decided to leave it in God's hands.  I wish I hadn't left her with Ms. Toth.  Maybe, my little girl would still be alive today.    I should have known better than to  trust a vet who wanted to keep a yorkie with severe anxiety over the complete weekend while knowing that at 6:00 pm no one would be there to monitor her until the next morning...as well as the rest of the weekend.  I blame myself for trusting this incompetent vet and  for the death of my irreplaceable baby.   We will NEVER get over her loss. As long as Ms. Toth is working  at Hill Country Animal Hospital as a vet I will never, ever return nor will I recommend my friends or anyone else to go there. Read Less

We've taken or dogs in for routine check-ups, emergencies, and bathing\grooming services and we've never had a bad experience. The staff is friendly, helpful, and accommodating. My only complaints are that the groomer seems to be unavailable often, it would be nice if they had more than one. Best service EVER! The staff is always courteous, professional and cheerful. The Christmas themed outfits add an awesome festive vibe too. The clinic also has a drop-off portico (best idea in the world) where you drive up and staff will bring your pups out of the car without you ever leaving the driver's seat! It's the easiest way to drop off/pick up my dogs for day board or vet appointments because I have up to 5 dogs with me at a time. I recently switched over to this vet, based on Yelp reviews. I have been extremely happy with the customer service, both over the phone and in person. From the techs to the doctor my pups and I were very comfortable and happy. Although I have only brought them once for a check up about three months ago, I have called in multiple times for questions and every time the doctor has taken the time to get on the line and go over ANY and every question I have in detail. I brought my dog in for euthanasia because he had become aggressive and was attacking other dogs. I loved the dog so much and it was agonizing. The vet we saw did not even sedate my poor boy and wanted to do the procedure with no sedation. He was so un caring and callous. My dog was so scared and upset. He had never tried to bite a vet before. He salivated and was a nervous wreck. Only after I asked for sedation did he get some. After the vet coldly announced to me it was an extra 50 dollars. Then my dog did not die peacefully at all. He was the 4 th dog I've had to put down and it was horrific. He fought and he moved around on the cold floor for what seemed like eternity. I was the only person my dog loved and trusted and I took him to this office and he had to struggle to die. It's been the worst experience of my life. Ill never forget how my baby died. There is not enough space to say how AMAZING Hill Country Animal Hospital is. We moved to Austin 3 years ago and were recommended to go to this place and they have never disappointed. We had an elderly dog at that time that Dr. Holcomb had to help us through with his elderly ailments. We eventually had to make the decision to let our elderly dog go to heaven and the loving care and personal phonecalls at home after hours from Dr. Holcomb to ensure we were okay truly went above and beyond. We also had another dog that was very sad after the passing. We decided to have him go to doggy day care two times a week and it tremendously helped. He loved going there in fact would of preferred to go every day. Then we adopted another dog as she was three days from being put down in a shelter in Sequin and when I picked her up she was in need of a vet visit. My husband called and without question or an appointment they said "bring her in" and so I was able to before I took her home to make sure she was okay. We moved to the North side of Austin and can't visit now as much as we would like to and still every time we go back they remember "Elvis" like it was yesterday and are now getting familiar with "Gracie". We have been using Hill Country Animal Hospital for medical care and boarding for the past 15 years and have ALWAYS been very happy with the care and attention shown toward our pets.  A few months ago we brought our dog in to have the Vet take a look at a lump on the side of his neck.  They suggested we keep on eye on it but didn't see the need for immediate or radical treatment.  Because the lump had gotten bigger in the months that followed we opted to have it removed.  He had this procedure this week.  Not only was our dog treated with great medical care,we received a follow up call from the office the following day and periodically throughout the week and from Dr. Holcomb after hours to check up on our dog and answer and questions or concerns.  This is the type of care we have become accustomed to from Hill Country Animal Hospital. I bring my four dogs here for grooming only.   Yet every time I bring them in they tell me they need a shot for various things.  I tell them to call my vet and check as they are up to date on shots.  I tell them they are not my vet, I am using them for grooming.  But every time I brought them in they would do a parasite test.  My dogs don't have parasites.  I had to sign a waiver.  Today they said the dogs needed the flu vaccine. I called my vet and they said there has not been a dog with the flu in Austin. They are not recommending the flu shot. So today was last time for them.  Seriously they over vaccinate and it is a volume business.  I'm going elsewhere. Read Less

Everyone at Hill Country Animal has always been extremely helpful and very caring. When I adopted my mixed breed Sophie from the Dallas Pound, she was 6 mths. old. and a very sick, tiny 13 lb. girl with a terrible cough and runny nose. When I took her in to see Dr. Holcomb, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She spent her first week in Austin, living at Hill Country Animal Hospital. They took special care of her, taking her in and out of a nebulizer where liquid medication is changed to a mist so that it can readily be inhaled into the lungs.  I credit them for essentially saving her life. She is today a happy, hale and hearty 32 lb. ten-year old! And as we travel into her senior years, I have every faith in Hill Country Animal Hospital to guide us down that path with ever attentive care and concern. Read Less

I would highly recommend leaving your furry babies here at Hill Country Animal Hospital! My husband and I left the country for about a week on our honeymoon vacation. We have never left Arya (our pup) for so long and I was extremely worried about her, but Hill Country made the transition as easy as possible. They e-mailed us updates on her and even took pictures of her playing with new friends! The price for boarding is low and affordable, and I feel that they took really good care of our girl. Hands down one of the best veterinary practices & doggy daycares we have ever dealt with.With respect to the veterinary services, they are attentive, do not oversell (unlike West Lake Animal Hospital, which was a reason we moved away from that practice), and provide great care.The daycare piece is fantastic. You drive up, they take the dog, you drive up in the afternoon, and they help you load up. I've never seen anything but smiles and great attitude from the staff. this is long. ready? here it goes.i recently began taking our 9 month old husky, laney, to the dog daycare center a few days a week and it has been great. she is a very high energy pup but very sweet and harmless. she just loves to play! she gets to play with other dogs, have a lot of space to run around in (much better than being cooped up alone in our apartment or paying 2.5x as much for a sitter), and the workers are all really wonderful with her. she loves water (a husky in tx summers...she's a weirdo) and is a mess by the end of the day but they have been so good about cleaning her up and keeping her happy. it also means a lot less mom guilt for me. i will admit, the grounds weren't quite the beautiful green acre with ponds and puppies running with butterflies like i (so rationally) had pictured in my mind. it is pretty basic, chain link fences, dirt play areas and the actual lawn is only a smaller portion that they use in shifts. but for what it is- it is fairly clean, it is safe and she is happy.the drive thru system is a serious luxury- no long goodbyes and just so much less hassle. i was worried that she would lose good habits and pick up bad ones from other dogs (because obviously she is perfect), but there have been no behavioral issues. actually-she is so excited to leave in the morning and so tired when we get home- she has been better than ever!lastly, I love how personal the whole experience is. everyone knows laney- mainly because she is a wet mess of a pup- but they are all so good to her and put up with me- the overly worried dog mom because they understand that she really is our baby. we are so glad that we read the other reviews and stopped by. $13 a day and i don't have to give notice (my job is part time and i have different hours all the time). i highly recommend giving this place a try, for your sake and your pup's. They got me in o short notice after waking up to my large Yorkie with something obviously wrong. I thought she had a stroke because she is old and was walking funny and not wanting to move around. They told us to come on in, even though we had never been there before. We didn't have to wait long and the clinic was very busy when we got there. Dr. Holcomb new right away that it was not a stroke and thought she had something wrong with her back. We left her for an hour and he called to tell us the xrays showed that she had a bulging disc. My dog seems confortable going there for grooming, the Drs are very diligent to call you and answer your questions and they keep checking to make sure our dog is doing well with wathever treatment they prescribe. It is the only place my dog can get groomed without freaking out. The drive-tru is the best. I have a baby and can't handle both of them for visits, so I can't be happier with the service. They really seem to care about the animals. I must say, I am still not totally convinced about the Drs being the best, because I wish they could figure out what's wrong more quickly, but I got spoiled with an exceptional vet in Idaho and haven't found anyone like her again. I can't say enough great things about this place. My family has been going to Hill Country for 4 years and have had a very warm and positive experience every time we have been in. I LOVE the drive thru. Dr Holcomb is so personable as is his staff. I am called by name and so are my 3 dogs everytime we walk in the door. I first came to Hill Country when one of our dogs was misdiagnosed by another hospital. Dr. Holcomb immediately knew what was wrong with my dog and had him back on his feet in no time. This is definitely the nicest and cleanest clinic I have seen. They are busy especially around the holidays. I recommend booking your boarding reservations in advance. When I brought my dog in for neutering they made an extra incision by mistake, and left a scar that to this day is a reminder of their incompetence. And never quite impressed with their bedside manner and the intelligence of their staff, this latest visit was the final straw. Since I was taking him in for shots, I thought it would be wonderfully convenient to have him groomed as well. This groomer has no right to consider herself a professional groomer. He is cut so unevenly that it borders upon the ridiculous. It looks like my 6 year old niece took a pair of safety scissors to the little guy, thinking she could be Edward Scissorhands. Some people may be satisfied with the quality of their care, however I am no longer willing to overlook their various deficiencies and will not be going back. Read Less
