I was recommended here after adopting my foster dog for a checkup. The office staff are great, however the providers are meek and not super helpful when it comes to diagnosis. My dog was diagnosed with Giardia and unfortunately I was talking to the office desk person and was placed on hold multiple times instead of being given the opportunity to talk to the tech or vet. Definitely not on par with previous veterinarians I have been to in the past. Will not be returning, I have found much happier, helpful providers at other locations. Returning to my last vet, it's worth the drive for the better visit. Read Less

The staff at Manchaca Village Veterinary Care are very nice and knowledgeable. They have taken great care of my little fur baby and made sure he was as healthy as he could possibly be. This place is absolutely amazing! They really went the extra mile to take care of my gorgeous dog. She had a bad skin wound. They took care of her immediately. They even gave her an old shirt left behind a former employee so she wouldn’t scratch her stitches. I’m so beyond grateful to Dr. O. She really cares. A shout out to Cheryl as well for her fabulous bedside manner and using ASL to communicate with me as I’m deaf. Have no fear for your fur babies in this place they are in great hands! The location may be at the very tip of south Austin but it’s worth going there for friendly empathetic staff that really listens to your concerns. This place doesn’t deserve 5 stars they deserve the equivalent of Michelin 5 stars :-) the vet clinic features a nice welcoming wide porch to congregate. It faces a lush fenced yard behind the building where the dogs can take care of business. These guys have taken care of all 3 of my dogs and 2 cats since i moved to the area back in 2000 and have always done a great job. in particular they did exactly what was needed when it came time to put my first 2 dogs down, those 2 days will stay with me forever in a good way because their team did everything just right, thanks. Great staff! They really love the animals that come in and try to build trust with them. My dog in particular is quite skittish and they get her to come to them when she's ready and feels more comfortable (with a little help with treats of course). Very professional atmosphere. A very great and knowledgeable team. They really care about pets and their health. It's not necessarily your cheapest vet clinic, but one thing I really liked was that they take the time to explain cost line per line so you know what you're paying for and they're not pushy at all when it comes to certain things. This past Saturday was a pretty tough day but I have to say the staff there did an excellent job in our situation. Our pour Lexi wasn't feeling herself and after taking her there we did have some bad news. But the staff was amazing, they walked us through everything and just told us everything they were doing. We have used MVVC for years. They are always wonderful, attentive, thorough, and caring about my 4 legged children. One of my dogs, Ajax, has a pretty high phobia of people and just loses it at the vet. They have me tranquilize him and they have to muzzle him and I completely understand. During his appointment yesterday, Dr. Smith came out mid exam to let me know he was doing fine, was tolerating the exam well, and not to worry. He also made me feel better about Ajax's anxiety and to not worry about it. Some dogs are just wound a bit tighter than others, and that is definitely Ajax. I recently moved from Kyle to Austin and changed vets. I read the reviews on this place and it seemed like a great place and very family oriented. I was taking my dog Howard in for his yearly check up and shots. I was extremely turned off when my technician Cheryl asked my THREE year old daughter to please be quiet when she was speaking to her mommy. Granted, my daughter kept trying to talk to her when she was going over the quote but I was clearly already trying to correct the issue. I let it go and they took mg dog to the back to give his shots and express his anal glands. We were waiting in the front lobby for them to bring him back up when the tech asked us to wait outside because the other dogs were barking at Howard. I informed her I hadn't yet paid and she said that is fine we will get you when we are ready for you. It was 100 degrees outside that day and she had my three year old, my dog and myself wait outside. I am not sure if this is pure discrimination to the fact that I had a child with me or what but I will be reporting this further than Yelp. When it was time for us to check out the receptionist handed me the medication for his allergies and told me my total. Not once did anyone ask me if I had questions about this medication or my visit. The next day I received an email asking about my experience, so I let the survey know exactly how it went. The practice manager called me the next day and said she was sorry but didn't seem to actually care what really happened that day. I would not bring your animals here. Read Less

this is by far the best veterinary clinic I have ever brought my pets to. All of the front desk staff, vet techs and veterinarians are fantastic and I have never had anything short of a great experience during all of my visits for my three animals. They even helped me by performing emergency surgery on my cat while I was out of the country and updated me on his status through emails with pictures. I truly love this practice! Read Less

I have been going to this vet for years, however am thinking of switching. The doctors are kind and so is the staff. The problem is I always feel I am in a "market" bargaining about what I can and cannot afford to do for my beloved dog. They insist on a physical every year even if your dog is perfectly healthy, if not they wont prescribe their flea meds. They then give you a list of all the things you "should" vaccinate them for, fecal exams, blood tests worth hundreds and hundreds of $. Then it's up to you to make a stand and say yes to this one, no to that one. Of course in the process you feel like a terrible parent if you cant afford everything they are selling. That is why I don't like going there.I love my dog, take such good care of my spoiled boy, to then feel like I am not so good because I cant afford all they try to sell. I started coming here with my cat Layla because a friend recommended them.  I absolutely love this place!  They helped me with figuring out why my kitty has been having vomiting issues and why she is so tiny.  They also gave me options and didn't try to overcharge me.  Dr. Smith wanted to try a medication before I paid hundreds of dollars for x-rays and the medicine worked!  A year later my cat almost died.  She kept vomiting, then stopped eating, and started just laying around and not moving around as much.  After medications, scans, and IV fluids she recovered quickly.  The cost wasn't too bad either. Our Big dog Harley has been afraid of Vets as long as we have had him. He was an abused pup and biting was an issue before we had him. So I had used MVVC years ago with our cats and loved them and gave them a call. Explained the issue and asked for the female vet, the would at least increased our odds. I loved the new back door entrance which he loved too. I brought his favorite and only addiction a tennis ball. He was completely relaxed. I could not believe it. We played ball in the waiting room. He was not nervous at all. Jumped up to say "Hi" to the young girl at the counter. Like he felt this was a good place. When we went back to the room, he still just played, jump up on the scale, not afraid, Dr. and Tech were very understanding of his issues and we all just got to know each other, he was happy and no muzzle required. He got everything completed he needed to and the rest we put off till next time to make this a very positive experience. MVVC always carefully listens to my concerns, explains any tests or treatments that might be needed. If something can be done at home they tell me. Harley if healthy and happy because I listen to them and they listen to me. If I need something quick done from a tech sometimes it would be no charge. I can communicate with them through email or phone and a vet is always available. Harley our awesome dog and Chewy our beautiful old lady kitty. In their office they offer a lot of information for pet care and disease and food. Education and first class treatment is primary in their office. I love them and Harley gives 2 Paws Up!!! Read Less

I have been coming here with my dog every 2 weeks for the past few months and I can only say great things. I always see Dr. O and vet tech, Cheryl and they are awesome and so compassionate. Last week we had to say goodbye to our Great Dane, who had been diagnosed with an aggressive bone cancer in her leg. I've gone through this process before with previous animals and I can attest that this was, though a sad situation, handled in the most caring, compassionate way that I had ever experienced. I can't say enough how much the staff and Dr. O have gone out of their way to make every interaction the best it can be. Thank you for all that you did for Maggie. This place is the shih-tzu. We were SO happy with our first visit today to Manchaca Village Veterinary Care. I chose this place because of the location, and didn't know I was in for such a treat! First of all, scheduling an appointment online was super easy. When my pup, Lana, and I arrived, her name was on the "Welcome" board! What a nice touch! We didn't have to wait at all for our appointment. We were greeted by Dylan, the nurse, who was an obvious animal lover. And Lana LOVED him, too. He was very informative and clear in regards to Lana's previous records and her current needs. He listened patiently when I inquired about the differences between heart worm prevention medicines and flea, tick, and mite options. What I liked is that he gave me options instead of forcing anything on me. I was able to choose the options and time frames that were right for me without any feelings of guilt. Dr. Smith was also very knowledgeable and informative, did a thorough check on Lana, and answered all of the questions I had afterwards very clearly and without rushing either. He's very friendly and was super sweet and gentle towards Lana. I was shown an estimate, and was able to approve it prior to their administering any vaccines or procedures. All I can say is GREAT! I recently moved to Austin and I needed a reliable vet... The first vet I tried out didn't even show any interest in helping out Huck... My girlfriend recommended Manchaca Village and it was everything she said. The vet showed Huck so much attention and care it was awesome. My dogs have been under the care of Dr. Ontiveros and her staff for several years now, and we've been incredibly happy with the level of service, compassion, and attention that we've received. We've brought our doggie girls there for everything from routine exams to emergency situations, and each time I have been treated wonderfully, fairly, have never been taken advantage of or had my feeling manipulated, and I've always been pleasantly surprised with the prices (whenever I get an estimate, it has always ended up being less than the low end). After more than two years of bringing our pups here, I'm officially done. The staff is kind, the techs are sweet and the vets are knowledgeable - that's probably what kept us around for the two years we stayed because other than that, it's been a very lackluster, mostly frustrating experience. This past visit we brought both dogs in for an 'annual checkup' which ended up being nothing other than a complete & total money grab. I think we were sold on different vaccines (majority of which totally ridiculous for our two INDOOR dogs) for over an hour and a half. And when I turned down a ridiculous vaccine, I was told some horror story of a random puppy that came in once and died or almost died because it didn't have that vaccine. This happened 3 times on this visit. Seriously? It's like they were all just coached on 'selling techniques' before we came in. They also tried to sell us on fecal exams, blood work, and xrays - all of this before even LOOKING at our healthy pets. Absolutely no underlying reason for all this work other than for Manchaca Village to pad their wallets. What put me over the top was the $60 ear swap they wanted to perform on our golden who has constant yeast ear infection issues and has been treated for them by this vet several, several times - but they wanted to perform yet another expensive swab so they could make sure it was "just yeast" againnnnn. It's been JUST YEAST every single time and, in fact, she was still under the same yeast infection treatment I had already paid for LAST visit when we came back in for this visit. So, if their meds don't work, they'll bill you again to test for the same exact treatment they are going to try YET AGAIN, unsuccessfully. It's a cyclical moneymaker for them and I'm 100% over it. Our bill was going to be $450 before I weeded out a bunch of the unnecessary procedures - $450 for two healthy dogs that have no issues other than one with the same yeasty ear we came in and paid $225 for the month prior... umm, no. I tried this small vet in hopes that they would be more 'hands on' and attentive than the large vet from our previous neighborhood but honestly, they make our old vet look awesome. Even though this is a 'small clinic' we very rarely get the same vet for more than two visits in a row - so they never build a relationship or knowledge of our dogs like a genuine small clinic would. But they still have 'small boutique vet' prices? It's a lose/lose scenario for the customer, win/win for them.I will say, the front desk staff is very kind and I love all of the techs we've ever had. They are also good about sending you reminders of your upcoming visit, and sometimes a tech will send a followup email which is also nice. The techs and front desk are pretty much the only reason there's two stars on this review instead of one. Sorry MVVC, we'll be going elsewhere from now on. Read Less

HaSandra Ontiveros, DVM, Troy Smith, DVMd to go twice, both times they worked me in and were gracious and kind. The first time Dr Troy Smith spent way more time with me and my dog than he needed to (had the same problem when i did family practice), the charge was way reasonable as well. We both left happy (my dog and I). Had to go back after she started nail biting and chewed up here feet. Dr Ontiveros was sensational (the staff is superb, professional, kind, caring and smiling). After spending way too much time with me again, I got a follow up call the next day by Dr. O personally. If i ever move to texas, this will be my vet no matter where i live.Read Less

I can't even begin to describe how much I love this place. We rescued our first puppy in August 2015 and quickly took him to Manchaca Village for his second round of boosters. We immediately fell in love with the staff there. They are always just so friendly, patient and just so attentive. Their lobby is always so clean and always has a warm appeal. We love all the doctors and the entire staff, even with such professionalism they are still so kind and friendly and quality like that is hard to come by these days. My pet sitter recently had to use this vet hospital while I was out of town for an emergency with my dog. Of course this was the worst case scenario for any pet sitter, this was not his usual vet, just the closest vet clinic to her. They treated my dog like he had been going there forever, they were extremely professional and kind to my terrified pet sitter and also to me on the phone as a panicking owner who couldn't be there with their baby. They kept me updated the entire time and called the next couple of days to keep checking on him. My dog is totally fine now thanks to this vet for saving his life, I highly recommend them. Read Less

So far we are in love with this vet! The park area is an amazing feature and the waiting room is clean and calm. The staff loved on our pup and helped keep him very comfortable. We adopted Deacon from APA! in September of 2015. The first week he was home with us and adjusting to his new life, he was very nervous and had some really nasty stomach problems.Manchaca Village was able to fit us in on very short notice, even as new customers. They even bumped us up to a sooner date & time when I expressed how concerned I was! They offered not only Deacon's first wellness checkup but also some anti-nausea medication, probiotics, and kind words to his panicking new parents. We felt so much better after leaving, and so did Deacon.Some problems came up for us again last month as Deacon had a stressful experience with his nails being clipped (his least favorite thing), which caused stomach upset for almost a week! We were nervous and called the vet to ask their opinion, and I was pleasantly surprised! They were very straight forward in letting us know we were doing the right thing with feeding him the bland diet, and reassured us to just keep an eye on him and bring him in if he started to act weird / if it lasted into the following week or so.I thought for sure they would tell us to bring him in anyways, and we would have to pay for yet another vet visit! The staff was very nice and polite. My fiancee and I were scheduled on a busy day, felt a bit rushed through the appointment, and walked away with some unanswered questions. Afterwards I spoke with Rob and we scheduled another appointment to address the questions I had. We took our 10 month old Chihuahua to be spayed and we were very pleased with the service provided. The technicians were very nice and professional and they treated our "Bella" like she was their own. They explained in detail what was going to be performed and then provided a very detailed report of what was done the day of the surgery. They did such a great job that Bella has experienced very little if any pain since the surgery. As a matter of fact, she is back to her normal self and is eager to jump and play around like before. For her own good we are keeping her in a crate for 10 days. It would have a lot cheaper if we had taken her Vet in Taylor, Texas but I'm sure they would not have provided the same service and care that she received here. We made the right decision in having the service performed here. They made it a point to call the day after to check on Bella's progress. Not impressed. It takes a lot more than being chipper and smiling to provide good service. Meaning take care of my sick pet. Instead, poor baby was injected with "fluids" and sent away.... after waiting 40 minutes on a cold, scary steel table ( instead of the comfort of the waiting room). She was shaking the whole time.I had to come back a few days later so the vet could actually DO what he should have done the first time. Oh and I was charged for the second visit too, which would have never happened with my current office now. Read Less

I've taken Presley and Zoey since they were weeks old. So it's been 5 yrs since I've met the wonderful staff at MVVC. Dr Smith and Dr O have always addressed any health concerns with utmost care and professionalism. The staff is always happy and have the best attitude. Took my 3 year dog several times to get checked for mites because she was itching and losing hair. 2/3 times they told me she didn't have anything. The final time I took her they said it was allergies gave her antibiotics and it didn't help. I ended up taking her to another vet, they did a skin scrape and found out she had mange. Not pleased with their service, overpriced and a different doctor always sees your dogs. Read Less

I brought my boy cat, Frito Lay, in Monday, due to rapid weight loss. In spite of Dr. Reicher sharing the same concerns as I had, he put me at ease very quickly. He was quick, efficient, gentle, and explained everything to me as he examined my boy. I also want to note that Frito loves Claire, the LVT. He always gets her every time he and his sister come in, and she immediately puts him at ease. Frito also took a quick liking to Able, the Veterinary assistant, which is unusual to him. Able was very gentle, and Frito was completely comfortable with him holding him, restraining him, and shifting him around for Dr. Reicher to examine him. Great job, guys. My pup, Princess Leia, just visited them for the first time and I would recommend this clinic to everyone! Every employee from her vet to the different techs that helped along the way were very enthusiastic and loving and they took the time to introduce themselves to her. She got two vaccines and had her blood drawn and they were careful to ensure that she was comfy. The clinic itself was very clean and although it was slightly pricier than the other clinics I looked up it was well worth the couple of extra dollars. I am finally getting around to writing this review. It is a little late but needed to be written. My kitty was a patient of this vet office until our last visit. I brought her in to get her ear and fur checked. Her ear was itching her and she was losing more fur than usual but she seemed to do this around the same time every year. After taking a sample of her ear, I was told she had a really bad infection and she needed drops and steroid pills for her fur. I said okay and began giving her the meds. Two days later. I came home to a barely breathing kitty. Rushed her to the hospital where she was given oxygen and help to save her. I was told to stop the meds and that now she would forever have a heart problem that needed other meds every day. The hospital said she should never have been given steroid pills and that she simply had wax in her ear. After the hospital, I began taking her to another vet in the area. I asked about her ear again without telling them everything that happened. I wanted another unbiased opinion and they, too, confirmed that she just had wax in her ear. After I told them what happened, they said they would NEVER have prescribed such medicines for her. They simply flush her ear now and she is good for months. I realize that these are pets and they can't talk and there is a certain degree of guessing when treating them BUT to have two different doctors say the same thing made me angry that this happened. I feel like I almost killed the love of my life over the wax in her ear. She hasn't been the same since and I am responsible for it. Read Less

There are cheap alternatives out there, but you get what you pay for—that being a highly educated and compassionate staff. My experience extends to both my crazy Weimaraner dog and my girlfriend’s shy cats, all of whom are happy patients at Manchaca Village Vet. I think animals pick up on caring hands, because visiting Dr. O and her technicians is actually a fun and painless process. The staff is professional and super-friendly. We always get rational explanations and are NEVER rushed or pressured. The advice we take has been spot on. We’ve avoided big bills because we follow their wellness plan and keep them healthy. A diamond in the rough! I’ve poured over many clinic reviews and this one stood out. We decided to get a second opinion on our yellow lab's knee pain, and we're very happy we came here to get it. After a thorough explanation of our options by Dr. O, we went down the path of Stem Cell therapy. (It so happens they were on the news last month for that very thing!) I highly recommend this vet clinic. I have seen Dr. Smith for 15 years. He has always taken the time to make sure my dogs were healthy and given me all the time I need, never has appeared hurried. He answers all of my questions. I also love that he has NEVER tried to upsell me. He is very conservative and suggest we try the minimal thing first if he feels it may be an effective treatment. My husband really liked this vet at first because they use a lot of technology in their office. However everytime I had to wait a while and when I went in I felt like they were trying to upsell me into a lot of unneccesary extras and this vet was very expensive compared to any other vet I had been to in the past. Recently my dog had a broken tooth and they wanted to do a teeth cleaning and pull the tooth. They did pre-bloodwork which they called to confirm was "normal" and quoted my husband a price, which we thought was for both procedures. After I picked my dog up I found out the quoted price was just for the cleaning and they had put my dog under anastesia to clean their teeth only without pulling the tooth. The vet told me this was just like any dentist would do and not do a teeth cleaning and dental work on the same day and out of concern for how long my dog would be under anastesia, which is incorrect because my dentist will do work + cleanings on the same day as long as we schedule the appointment as such. The new quote to remove the tooth we recieved when we picked our dog up, which is really a hard tooth to pull in a dog, was $700 at a minimum, and so I called another vet who my sister in law uses and loves and they quoted me a price for the same procedure/tooth that was less than half the cost. I immediately setup an appt with the new vet and asked that the Machaca Village Vet send my pet records to me including the bloodwork that had been done. Immediately when they sent methe bloodwork I noticed that the bloodwork indicated that several of my dogs bloodwork levels were not close to being in the normal ranges. I thought maybe those levels weren't as concerning in a dog as they would be in a human maybe and didn't bring this up to the other vetrinarian who reviewed my dog's bloodwork and was immediately alarmed by the bloodwork levels done before the other procedure because they were indicative of some autoimmune problems and reccomended I not put my dog under anastesia again until the levels were rechecked. He rechecked the levels while I was in office, thoroughly explained the results and treatment reccomended not pulling the tooth or putting my dog under anastesia considering. The cost of bloodwork, appointment, medicine was half that of what Manchaca Village vet had been charging me for what I consider much better care. Very concerned that I paid for bloodwork for my dog and they called to confirm it was normal, when the bloodwork had charts that even I could tell were not normal when they showed them to me. This oversight is unforgivable, considering my dog may have had complications during anastesia, and would highly reccomend anyone in the area considering vets my new vet, Rosebrock Veterinary Clinic, which is more of a farm vet and doesn't have a beautiful office and all the emails/photos and technology in their office but has already proven to me to show more care and compitancy than Manchaca Village Veterinary Clinic. We just moved to the area and are we so happy we found this vet. We got a nice welcome from the receptionists. The clinic was clean, and did not have that "pet smell". The medicine is first class. This was the most relaxed we have ever seen our cats in a clinic. They have a special "kitty scent" that helps calm the cats. Thank you to the Dr. O, Dr. Smith, and staff. Read Less

My dog was sick and I was referred to this vet by a friend. I was very pleased with the veterinarians and staff. The hospital looked and smelled very clean. I've never been in to a vet's office that didn't stink until now. The girls at the front desk were very friendly and worked me into their appointment schedule. The veterinarian was very thorough and answered all my questions without making me feel rushed. This was the best experience I have had at a vet in a long time! Read Less
