North Austin Animal Hospital

Austin, Texas
General Info
North Austin Animal Hospital functions as a dual treatment center and educational space where Texas pet families gain assurance through active learning and milestone-tracking methods. Initial visits commence with environmental adjustmentβ€”allowing pets to become accustomed to auditory stimuli, lighting conditions, and spatial configuration. From the instant animals enter the examination space veterinarians monitor their movement patterns alongside social interactions and hesitation zones while recording breath rhythms and tactile responses. Physical assessments examine coat health hydration level gum color limb use joint sensitivity abdominal tone and muscle stability. The intake picture emerges through owner feedback which includes recent appetite changes grooming routines interaction shifts and vocalization patterns to guide next steps. North Austin Animal Hospital delivers organized services that encompass lab panels dental procedures surgical prep and recovery age-adjusted diagnostics and preventative wellness mapping. Detailed explanations accompany each service milestone while multi-visit plans feature visual progress tools. The team assists owners in deciphering body language throughout recovery while identifying behaviors that indicate readiness or resistance which makes home care more intuitive. The scheduling of follow-up visits relies on behavioral benchmarks instead of simple calendar dates. It is recommended that owners monitor distinct behavioral patterns such as sleep cycles, eye contact duration, surface preferences, and mobility gradients to contextualize each return check-in. This guarantees decision-making processes operate with assured consistency and ongoing stability. North Austin Animal Hospital establishes a clinical partnership with pet families across Austin and Texas which focuses on knowledge patience and visibility to ensure care becomes an active collaboration from the very first day.

We brought our beloved gerbil to the North Austin Animal Hospital because she wasn't doing well. Unfortunately, we ended up having to put her down. The staff was so incredibly kind to us. We'll never forget how well we were treated while dealing with such a difficult decision & the loss that followed. Typing up this review still makes me emotional about our gerbil, but the concern and care that we were given has done wonders with being able to cope with the loss. Due to some issues, we also ended up being about 15 minutes late to our appointment, but the staff was completely understanding and was able to arrange to still see us (although I would never make a habit of it- scheduling conflicts can be such a pain that the wonderful staff doesn't deserve to deal with!) While boarding the dogs for the weekend, it was communicated that they needed various shots/boosters. This was fine as that was expected. What was not expected, however, was the bill at the end. When the dogs were dropped off, we were given an estimate of the total, which first of all is somewhat absurd because the vet should know exactly how much everything costs that was needed and was requested. So, a total of a little over $450 was signed off on for everything they needed. When we picked them up yesterday, the total bill was $579!! Not even close to the "estimate" we were given. Out of respect for the lady putting her cat down, I did not lose it in there. What was lost though, is our business. We told the girl checking us out that we were given an estimate and this is nowhere close to it and she said we "verbally" agreed to some additional charges. WHAT?! We signed an estimate for the services in their entirety. She then tried to upsell us on some heartworm medication! WHAT AGAIN?! For us, North Austin Animal Hospital made a choice yesterday to no longer have us a client. While we've loved their services and care, this type of thievery at checkout is just beyond unprofessional. Another vet may screw us over someday, but it won't be this one. Read Less

To say that I was pleased with my visit would be an understatement. I was completely blown away and am incredibly thankful towards the Saturday staff at Austin Animal Hospital. I brought my precious pup in after getting hit by a car moments before, and they did not miss a beat. I don’t know what kind of slow, disinterested service I was expecting but they jumped into action instantly. They cared for my pup promptly, kindly and professionally. I was treated equally as well, with my frazzled nerves they explained each step and kept me updated throughout their initial exam. I did not have a primary veterinarian until now, but you bet I’ll be bringing my pup back here. Oh and very cost efficient!! After meds, X-rays, splinting and a short stay for observation I am not walking away with empty pockets, which is a huge plus because I had no way of shelling out the big bucks. Read Less

Where do I begin? Dr. Judd and her staff took such amazing care of our snake, Apollo, who we noticed was very ill last weekend. On Monday they admitted him and immediately started testing to determine why he was so oddly swollen and dehydrated. They gave him meds and bathed him twice a day, and kept him there so he wouldn't be stressed going back and forth to our home each night. They kindly gave us advice on what we needed to be doing differently at home, without making us feel badly for not caring for him correctly (we just didn't know). He quickly started getting better and they kept him until yesterday, when he was ready to come home! My 11 year old son would have been devastated if Apollo died. Thank you so much!!! Read Less

I've always had a good experience here with Dr. Harris and his staff each time I've brought my dog 16 year old dog Rusty, who has arthritis, in for his exams. HOWEVER, there are SERIOUS, ongoing issues when it comes to getting his prescriptions filled each month for the meds that he takes daily. They dropped the ball this past weekend and did not reply to the fax that Walgreens sent over for a refill, and therefore, Rusty was out of Tramadol on Sunday morning. Well, I panicked, concerned about withdrawals, since it's known to be highly addictive, and everything I've read about it says that you should wean off of it and not stop taking it suddenly. So after driving over to Walgreens and being informed that they never received a fax back from North Austin Animal Hospital approving the refill, and trying unsuccessfully to reach someone by phone, I showed up at the vet's office and knocked on the back door. A kennel staff member answered the door, was very helpful, reached out to the doctor on call, and kept me updated throughout the afternoon. But alas, she eventually called and told me that Dr. Judd refused to refill Rusty's meds until (this morning), although it would have only taken her one quick phone call to help me keep him comfortable through the night. Also, she recommended giving him Benadryl, although that has ZERO effect on pain. Due to my apparently being overly concerned about my dog's pain, and the fact that I showed up to speak to someone in person on a day when they were closed, Dr. Judd is now insinuating (per another staff member) that I am taking the pills myself. And because of that, she says we need to look at other treatment options for my dying dog. So not only did they not reply to the initial fax to fill his medication, when I finally tracked down a doctor she refused to make a quick phone call to do so, and the icing on the cake is that I'm being accused of being a drug addict because I don't want my dog to be in pain. I am hugely disappointed with the whole situation this weekend, and we'll start the process of finding a new vet so that Rusty can comfortably finish out the rest of his years or even months that he has left, by getting his medications in a timely manner without it being such a stressful thing for me to have to deal with month after month.Read Less

I am so appreciative of the staff and Dr. Heppner. I went to my regular vet ( I was employed there for 5 years as well)with my sick dog. After receiving an estimate that was more than my mortgage and car payment combined I let them know what I had to work with (it was still a lot of money) but they essentially refused to even take another look at the estimate. I had a choice go elsewhere or euthanize. I was sick. I went to NAAH and even though I was "that client", bawling, hysterical etc. I was treated with compassion and respect. As a former vet tech it is so comforting and refreshing having an empathetic staff and doctor. They gave me a treatment plan that was within my budget and were able to save my dog. Thank you NAAH!!! I've been taking my dog here for 5 years and have always been very happy with her care until yesterday. I'm sorely disappointed by the 'care' she received and will not be returning. We had an appointment to have my dogs blood sugar checked and to see a vet for follow up for an inoperable insulinoma. She had her labs drawn and was returned to me with the statement that a vet would call me back in two days. Her attitude was so cavalier that I figured her blood sugar must have been ok. When I asked she said it was 48. This is nowhere near normal and in past visits at this and a specialty vet blood sugars in this range have required further intervention. Waiting two days to hear from a vet for a fairly critically low lab value is unacceptable. Also, remember that I specifically made an appointment to see a vet to tweak her medication regimen to keep her blood sugars stable and never did. I will be calling her vet tomorrow to find out what he feels a prudent vet or vet tech should've done in this situation. It's obvious his tech showed no critical thinking skills and sadly, didn't even seem to care. At the very least the value should've been reported same day with a follow up call. What occurred was unacceptable. Read Less

Love this place! I have pet rats. My sweet little guys do great most of the time, but when they get sick, sometimes it's very sudden. They are great at helping get me in on short notice, as some illnesses progress very rapidly once symptoms start showing up. This is not the "original" North Austin Animal Hospital. It was sold a few years back to some large animal hospital mega-corporation based in Massachusetts. All the really great and caring vets that were once there are gone. I had a terrible experience there recently. The facility was filthy -- so much animal hair in the exam room, I was afraid to sit down. The vet, Dr. David Mouser, was very uncaring and did the worst annual exam on my dog. They did not even take his temperature, Worse they inappropriately medicated my dog with injections he did not need. The vet tech was so incompetent that she did not even bother to hold my dog for his exam or for his injections. The vet let the dog twist and pull out the needle, so he had to stick my dog twice causing him needless pain. Also, they provided very little information on care options. This place has more staff changes than I can count. I noticed there are no longer the names of the vets up on the building *(they used to keep them up there and occasionally change them to add a new addition) but I guess even the veterinarians change all the time now as well as support staff. The people up front are ok but not always consistent. The amount of upselling her is INSANE and I get the impression it's all dollar signs in their eyes when we walk in. It's hard enough to find a good vet but then when we did, she left. The other one there we liked (saw once when our regular was out that day) and SHE was gone without word as well. What on earth is going on? I have never seen this happen at any vet much less even a restaurant I frequented. I wish I was kidding. Their food prices are always going up too so we go elsewhere. We're running while we can. Oh- and I noted they closed earlyt according to 2 reviewers. Well, they also don;t answer the phone right before closing too. I know because I tried for 10 minutes calling to ask how my (high strung) puppy was doing in boarding when I was out of town on business. I went to NAAH a couple of weeks ago when my dog came down with a very bad ear infection. I called all of the other vets I have seen since I've been in the Austin area and everyone was booked and wouldn't even recommend a vet for me to see. I found this vet on citysearch. They saw me within 2 hours of my phone call. I showed up early and they took me right away. The front desk staff, the tech and the vet were all absolutely amazing. They were all happy and genuinely friendly and concerned for the health of my dog. My dog gets fiesty at the vet and normally has to be muzzled if anything that needs to be done may cause pain. Everyone was totally cool and understanding about it. Most of all, I have never actually had a vet spend the amount of time my vet spent with me. I had several other questions about my dog that had nothing to do with his ear infection and she answered each thoroughly and thoughtfully. Every time I've been somewhere else, the vets are in such a hurry I can barely give them a good history of my dog. Not this vet. She listened to everything I had to say and was fully of answers and recommendations. My dog's conditon is also a recurring thing, every other vet has just been concerned with fixing the inividual infection and not finding the underlying cause. Thanks to NAAH, I am starting a regimen that should identify what is causing the problems with my pet. What an amazing experience, I will absolutely use this vet as long as I remain in Austin. North Austin Animal Hospital

Austin, Texas
(43)
5608 Burnet Rd
Austin Texas 78756

Read Less

It is hard to find a veterinary clinic where love and compassion as well as my kitty's health are #1 priority!!! I love every one at North Austin. I had no wait time~ The receptionist had me in a room in less than an min. and the technician was instantly there making me feel like I was part of their little family.. Dr. Silvers was Awesome! I feel like she explained things to me in terms I understood and educated me on the dangers of my kitty's diabetes. We have been back several times and I am forever grateful to the staff at North Austin... 5 stars Read Less

I found all the doctors at the North Austin Animal Hospital to be caring and helpful. I was especially impressed with Dr. Smith who went out of his way to help my cats through sickness.
