Northwest Austin Veterinary Center

Austin, Texas
General Info
Northwest Austin Veterinary Center serving families in Austin and surrounding Texas believes pets don’t remember procedures—they remember whether they were rushed or heard. The clinic's design process initiates at this point. The design of the entrance experience deliberately reduces movement speed. Animals can remain in vehicles if desired while sensory-sensitive pets have access through specific side entrances. Low-stimulus rooms inside provide spaces where animals can become familiar with scents while settling through observation. The initiation of examination procedures occurs exclusively after the creature reestablishes fundamental directional awareness. Pet owners articulate their pets' morning routines and responses to visitors along with how they show discomfort at home which all factors into planning the day's visit. Northwest Austin Veterinary Center provides support for diagnostics hydration evaluation injury monitoring surgical consultation cardiopulmonary evaluation and immune health mapping. The medical rhythm is flexible: treatments may pause after diagnostics, resume later in the day, or be distributed across multiple days if imprint risks are high. Cats along with senior dogs and exotic animals demonstrate prolonged retention of environmental associations which leads to the respect of species-specific memory cues. Guidance focuses on home reintegration after care. Determine which space serves as your resting area and explore ways to use lighting and fragrance cues to promote calmness while adjusting routines when appetite or mobility experience temporary disruptions. The process of emotional recalibration drives follow-up customization beyond mere symptom regression. Northwest Austin Veterinary Center delivers pet care services to families in Austin and surrounding Texas areas that remain with their pets through memories and habitual patterns influencing their future visits.

Our cat's paw recently became swollen and inflamed for some unknown reason, so we rushed to book an appointment with any available vet, which happened to be Northwest Austin vet. I can not reiterate how awful the experience was.The doctor who treated us was William Russel Boyd, and at first glance he seemed stand-offish and unapproachable, not deigning to offer any sort of pleasantries, not even a simple "hello". He kept questioning me when I told him it an indoor cat, very friendly and never scratched people. He declared that our cat had an infection, but did not explain how or why our cat was inflicted with infection. At that point, I was already frustrated with his unprofessional behavior. BUT THE WORST PART is the utter lack of humanity with which he treated our cat. He manhandled our cat's paw, which, as mentioned before, was sensitive and INFECTED, and pressed down hard on the paw while trying to administer an ointment. Of course, my cat naturally lashed out in pain, which, at this point, Dr.Boyd stepped back and refused to continue treatment, complaining of "getting scratched". How can a qualified DOCTOR not have any strategy towards aiding animals in pain? I wasted $192 for an incomplete treatment. A never again experience, definitely. Read Less

We've taken our pets here since the late 1980's. Dr. Walden, the owner, is the most caring, trustworthy Vet I have ever known. The staff is attentive to both humans and pets. I've been meaning to write a review for years about this vet. Each and every person there is fantastic! Dr. Walden is our vet and the only vet that I'll ever use as long as I'm living in Austin. Our Charlie (half pug/half chihuahua) got ill about 4 years ago. It was very sudden. He went from hiking to almost dying in 12 hours. I rushed him in. They ran test and sent me home with lots of meds and instructions for special care. The next morning I was to give him an IV from home. I ran to the store and came home to find him post seizure and unresponsive. I quickly rushed him to Dr. Walden. He said that he thought that Charlie was suffering from Addison's disease. The test alone for this disease is near $300. He informed me that he would need to spend the next 36 hours in the hospital under his care. This was going to be close to $2000. I just sobbed at the thought of losing this wonderful animal and how to tell my son. Dr. Walden immediately said, "I think your dog has Addison's disease and I want to treat him for the next 36 hours and see if he responds. If he does, we know." He then followed by saying, "if you're going to lose him, it's not going to be bc of money. It's going to be bc we did all we could." My heart sank. I never expected that. And here we are almost 4 years later and our lil Charlie is just as healthy as ever. Especially now that he gets a steroid shot every month! Read Less

Monday morning Lola our 11 month old Shih Tzu became very ill. We took her to Petsmart and they told us she had a minor viral infection and they sent her home. Tuesday morning after her health rapidly declined I raced her to Northwest... Within 10 minutes Dr Walden had diagnosed and began treating her for HGE. She immediately began receiving treatment and he recommended we transfer her to the 24 HR emergency care hospital around the corner in the evenings. I have been shuffling her back and forth for 3 days and 2 nights...But today she gets to come home. They are amazing and we are eternally greatful that they saved Lolas life!!!! Without their expertise care and the fact that they cared for our baby like she was theirs, she would have not made it through this horrible sickness...THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Lola will only be taken to Northwest Austin Veterinary Clinic from now on!!! We love everyone there.... Read Less

I've been taking my pets to Dr. Walden for YEARS, and the recent changes are HORRIBLE!! The front office staff recently lost all of its good employees. Where did Jennifer go? She was the best employee northwest has had in 10 years! There is no order or anyone who has a clue at the front now! And why am I dealing with an arrogant bunch of techs that have no clue how to assist vets? Where did Becky go? Did the management fire ALL the great employees and settle for keeping the lazy, sad-faced, uneducated 20-somethings? At least Matt still runs the kennel. Of course, at this rate, he'll be fired next. Then that place will be at the bottom of my list for places I'll take my pets. Sad sad sad. Maybe they're about to go out of business and can't afford good help?? If you have tons of money and even more patience, go to this vet. I've been taking my pets there for a while. For the first few years, it was all maintaince- shots, a UTI, spaying a new family member. This year, I had to deal with a couple emergencies and they were wonderful. I like their front office, esp 3 girls whose names I can't remember. For the reviewers below that said the front office is rude, I think I know who you're referring to and I haven't seen them so I think they aren't there anymore. I've seen all the docs there and like them all. I've mostly seen Dr. Breaux and Dr. Boston. Dr. Boston is wonderful and helped me with a very had decision I had to make and the staff was so great. Dr. Breaux spayed my cat and helped my dog when she was in extreme pain one day and I didn't know why. In these emergencies, the front office always got me in right away (my cat got an infection after surgery). I can't say enough good things about Dr. Breaux and Dr. Boston and I'm sure I could say the same for other 2 docs if I saw them more. I'm going to move and their office will be 25 miles away, but I wouldn't take my pets any where else. Read Less

I have been taking my cats and dogs to Dr. Walden for almost 20 years, from his early days in practice. He is an exceptional vet, as well as a wonderful person. His calm, confident and compassionate demeanor is reassuring to animals and clients. I have a large number of cats, since I do cat rescue, and over the years he has been invaluable help to me in caring for sick and injured kittens and adults. He has seen me through many difficult moments when hard decisions have to be made and good-byes have to be said. The staff all know me by name due to my frequent visits and large number of animals, and they are all great. One of the reviewers wrote that they did not like the treatment they received by the front desk staff, and although everyone has a bad day sometimes, it would be rare indeed to have a bad experience at this clinic. Besides Dr. Walden, the other three doctors are also excellent and caring: Dr. Boston, Dr. Boyd and Dr. Breaux. The boarding facilities for the cats are separate from the dogs and are just great. We're new customers to this clinic, and have so far been left with a very bad impression. We purchased heartworm medication for our dog, and were given the price of $99.96. I asked why it was so expensive (we paid less 6 months ago at another clinic), and the girl at the front desk said it was because ""prices have gone up."" I took her at her word at the time, but I later called around to other clinics (and looked online), and found out that you can get this medication for $70. When I went to return the medication to Northwest Austin Veterinary Clinic, the guy at the front desk said, ""We don't do internet price matching"" and added ""You can find it cheaper in other parts of town."" I guess they only want to sell overpriced meds to their snooty clientele in northwest Austin. Additionally, while I was waiting for my refund, I saw one of their vet techs in the back half toss a cat that was brought in for a spay into a kennel and slam the door. I would've been furious if my animal had been treated like that, especially before a traumatic surgery. Based on these experiences, we will NOT be returning to this clinic. 11846 Jollyville Rd
Austin Texas 78759

Read Less

Read Less

That was lucky, since just 4 months after my initial visit, my dog came down with a serious illness. I see that a few reviewers are skeptical of the front desk staff, but they were always compassionate to me, and made me feel welcome on my many, many visits during the time my dog was sick. I had been going to this vet as long as I lived in Austin and felt comfortable leaving my dog there during a week-long vacation. What a mistake! They never unpacked his bag, which had a blanket, toys and treats in it, and the staff left him in a cage for the majority of the week.
