Efficient and Orderly experience for a last minute walk in. I had an emergency and was recommended to go here for 24 hour just in case my dog needed it (he did not thankfully). The staff were kind but efficient and didn't dally around. The Veternarian assigned to us was very thorough throughout the walk in appointment. I did wait around a bit but knew going in that it was most likely going to happen. The pricing was very fair and I left with alot of knowledge, medication, food, and peace of mind at the end. Was also glad to get a call back the next day for a follow up. The only downside is parking can be tricky but that's Austin for you. Read Less

The clinic and waiting area are VERY dirty. Some of the front office staff is less than friendly and more concerned about your method of payment than what you are in for (and took our card while I was talking to the tech and charged it without telling us the amount). The prices were outrageous as well. We paid more than double what we paid at our previous vet. After reporting our puppies age multiple times it was still wrong on all of our paperwork. We heard the office staff and tech arguing with this poor family over something very simple as they were leaving in tears with their sick dog. Dr. Smith was very nice and thorough. We really wanted to like this place but after my initial gut feeling of it not being the best place for our dogs and then reading the horrid reviews and experiences online I do not think we will be going back. I brought in my cat the other day for a checkup. He is very afraid of the vet because he had a urinary blockage when he was a baby. I informed the staff of this, saying that I was happy to take him out myself with a towel so he would not bite or scratch them.  My cat is 8 and  previously with every other vet he has been to, they have given me a towel to take him out and then they wrapped him up so they could do the exam. No big deal, The vet this time was actively afraid of my 7 pound cat and refused to give him an examination without me paying for the additional cost of giving him a sedative. They even threatened that if my cat bit them they would have to quarantine my cat and that they could file a lawsuit. So..... we went to Brodie Animal Hospital where I told them this story and they laughed. They said they see frightened cats all the time because most cats hate the vet. They took him out with a towel wrap him like a burrito and did the exam like professionals. This is not the first time I have had mediocre treatment with AM PM. I used to bring my dog there as well but suffice it to say we will never be going back.  I do not recommend this place- please take your animals to a real vet instead of getting mediocre treatment and with high price tags. My dog is having seizures, and without a SPECK of health history (this is not my regular vet, and he didn't ask for a health history), he had the gall to tell me the prognosis was really bad. No blood work, no discussion of possible causes. He just said he wanted to prep me that it was most likely a brain tumor. Irresponsible, presumptuous, unprofessional. My visit started with the tech dragging my 10 lb dog across the floor on a leash as she thrashed and rolled onto her back. Seriously?!? I asked him what the hell was he thinking and told him he was traumatizing my dog. I picked her up off the floor and handed her to him so he wouldn't choke her to death on his way out the door. Moments later I heard her shrieking and opened the clinic door to see about 8 techs and a vet muzzling her. This is a 10 pound dog, right? I told them to leave her alone and I was taking her home. I took her there because she had some bloody diarrhea from gastric upset. In the end they did blood work and I was told she was slightly dehydrated and the blood in her stool was from gastric inflammation. I have been in the medical field for over 30 years and knew all this before I handed over the (almost) $300 for an experience my dog and I would have preferred not have suffered through. The vet gave her an Rx for the symptoms but no information as to what caused the problem nor how to avoid it in the future. Never again will I torture myself, my dog or my credit card at this place in the future. What a crock. Read Less

My dog had a seizure at home at 6PM on a Friday night, so off to the emergency vet we went. I have had great service before today, but was not happy tonight. I am an RN and knew that my dog had a seizure. Once a vet tech came out and assessed my dog said it would be an hour wait. I was not concerned at that time because if he was going to have another seizure he was in the right place. I saw that rooms are not turning over and they are putting vaccine appointments in front of us. I checked to determine an ETA of when we would be seen and they said another hour. No thank you, and will take him to my own vet in the morning. Poor customer service and lack of prioritization of what is going on in your clients. These guys far exceeded my expectations. I had called our normal vet on a Saturday and was unable to get in until the following week. They gave me a (small) list of emergency vets in the area; but I found that only a few were actually in Austin at all. By Sunday, I had an emergency on my hands and had to go with the only one open at that time. AM PM happened to be very close by but I was not expecting much from a 24 hr vet. When we got there, the lady at the desk was surprisingly kind and accommodating. They took us back immediately and examined my cat. Unfortunately this visit would be the most emotional vet visit I'd ever experienced. The assistant and the vet gave me all the information I needed and every option I had so I was fully prepared to make a decision. They gave me all the time I needed, I never felt rushed or under informed. They made it the most comforting experience it possibly could be. I had no idea this kind of place even existed until I needed them. I definitely felt they were worthy of 5 stars; then, a few days later, I received a personal letter in the mail with heartfelt wishes! I will never forget my experience at AMPM. I'm happy that they were able to take care of the other dog first, who clearly needed the help. We were immediately told that our wait would increase to as long as 1.5 hours, but were okay with it. I would say it only took maybe 45 minutes for the vet to see our dog. He received compassionate treatment that appeared reasonable. Find another option. Beware. I'm dog had an accident in the evening and I took him here for after-hours urgent care. My dog was sedated for his procedure and after the staff called me into a treatment room. My dog was on the floor with his eyes rolling around barely able to open them and unable to move his body at all and they tell me to wake him up and left the room. The whole experience was traumatic as I was already it shaken up by the accident and in shock to see him in such a state. I questioned the treatment my dog was given as it clearly did not look right to me. He had sutures for a large laceration along his ribcage, but the wound was not closed up and the sutures were very loose and appeared to be an infection risk. The vet informed me it was done right despite my concern that it very obviously did not look so and that it would open up further. Nothing seemed right about what she did nor did her explanations make any scientific sense. I returned the next day because the wound did, in fact, open up. My dog had a whole in his side 3" in diameter and she again told me it was fine. She was completely incompetent and should not legally be allowed to practice medicine on any living animal. Not to overlook while I was in the lobby prior to this the front office staff were rude and deliberately unhelpful to a customer then proceeded to make fun of the customer after she left unhelped and frustrated with a sick cat on her hands. They also had a bowl of water in the middle of the lobby waiting room. The staff told me not to let my dog drink from the bowl as it could be contaminated by sick animals. Why was it there?! I immediately got medical treatment elsewhere for my dog. Because of the doctor's neglect at AM/PM Animal Hospital my dog had to undergo another procedure and was at high risk of further surgeries that he would not have otherwise had. Read Less

It makes me so sad that there isn't an option to give zero stars.  I called in to find out if there's a way to break up payments, so that I can take my very sick girl to the vet. So there's no way to break up anything, at any vet.  I don't know about y'all, but I don't always just have $5000 laying around, for the treatment that she needs. So being hopeful that I can find a place in all of Austin to get her seen, I asked for recommendations for any other vets, and was given the name of 2 offices, both of which do not see sick pets. Her final, and most disgusting comment was this:  If you can't afford to take care of your pet, at least there they'd be able to take care of her.  I'm absolutely disgusted with the receptionist for this office, and recommend that no one wastes their time calling. If that's how the representative for the vets office is allowed to speak to a concerned owner, I can only imagine what goes on there behind the scenes. Read Less

Our dog, Zeus, was sick. AM/PM did an xray and some labs. Everything was negative. We were told our only options were 1) a $2,500 surgery "to see" if there was anything inside of him (already $500 in, and sure there'd be more after surgery) or 2) to PUT HIM DOWN. Took him somewhere else, they gave him fluids, antibiotics, and a soft food from a can for a week. This was less than half of the price of the surgery at AM/PM and obviously better than putting him down.My Zeus is now better than ever!!! ------ I mean can you believe they had me convinced I basically had to euthanize my baby when another place simply gave him fluids --------Point is--- we were told by AM/PM that we had to spend thousands to just see if there was an issue inside of him or put him down. Those were the only 2 options they gave us. Got a second opinion and now our Zeus-y is fine. All they want is money or to get you out of the office as fast as they can. And it doesn't sound like they have the animals' best interest in mind at all. I MEAN OTHER THAN $$$$$ SURGERY---EUTHANIZE HIM---IS WHAT THEY TOLD US. Read Less

I was so turned off by the initial customer service here that I cancelled my appointment before going in. I called to book an exam and appointment for a rescue kitten and asked how much it would be for an initial round of vaccinations and exam. The original girl I spoke with said it would be $130 max if they did all of the shots and could get it done in one appointment. Right before the appointment was scheduled- since I had read other Yelp reviews balking at price- I called to confirm the price and the girl (Ashley) said it would be 180 plus a 50 dollar exam fee.... "At least"I told her I had to check to see if I could do that and I would give her a call back, to which she responded (in a horribly rude tone), "Great then. Well if you're going to cancel let me know because I have plenty of other clients who would be happy to take your appointment if you aren't coming."Then she proceeded to hang up on me. I'm feeling pretty good about my decision to cancel the appointment (yes, I did call back so one of the many other clients could enjoy the customer service in my stead). We've had good experiences here before - so I hate to post this, but last night was just the worst! Our outdoor cat had been missing a few days and we finally found him limping across the street late Friday night. We took him to AM/PM for treatment for his leg. The vet we saw told us there was nothing wrong with his leg. He suggested the cats kidney disease was causing the limp - disagreed with our regular vets treatment of the disease and suggested we needed to get bloodwork done to determine whether or not we needed to put the cat to sleep! We didn't feel comfortable with this guy - he was arrogant and rude and clearly not interested in treating the hurt leg. So we left. This morning our cat went into our regular vet - where a cat bite puncture wound was discovered on his shoulder and treated with antibiotics. It would seem that the shoulder wound was causing the limp all along. Read Less

We brought our cat in after finding he was injured. Didn't know what happened. We were referred right away. They took him in and a guy can out asking us about any medical history before letting us know the situation. We felt like we were being interrogated. Then we go into the back room, saw the vet and she checks him. After explaining to her what might have happened, she goes along with that in explaining his trouble breathing and trauma. She leaves, then someone else comes in with an estimate, we unfortunately couldn't afford it, asked for a payment plan, got denied, but still got hounded for their $91 fee, then got referred to other clinics who wouldn't handle our situation. These people suck, and don't care about your situation. We had to put our cat to sleep that day. We are very sad and felt that a vet should have offered more. We could have paid up in installments and would have loved to have our cat around still. He was family. This place only wants money and their cold-mannered approach is unforgettable. Shame on you. Better hope I don't run into you hereafter. Read Less

I have visited this location for a few different pets. My large orange tabby Henry has had a few eye complications after he's scratched his cornea and they were very sweet to his shy personality. I recently brought in 3, 1 week old kittens after a storm separated them from their mother and the staff here were able to fit in a time to see them without an appointment. The difference in the one star reviews is that the price is higher as a walk in patient rather than an appointment just as is would be for human health care visits. - If it is an emergency, there is a emergency care hospital a few miles away to treat your family member immediately. This care facility is perfect for what I have needed as non life threatening or emergency care visitations. Read Less

I had to go here because my dog broke his leg late at night and it was one of the few places open. Let me tell you, it's an absolute racket; they messed up putting my dog's cast on one week and when it came loose 2 days later they charged me full price to get it changed out. I received a negative attitude from some members of the staff who looked at me as if I was a bad owner despite the fact that I was willing to drop everything for my dog and pay their ridiculous prices. He's a dog - he moves around. Even with a cone on his head, it's not going to stop that; if that cast is on poorly, it comes loose. I can't have him heavily sedated for 6 weeks while his leg heals (this is what they told me to do), have him never move around and expect him to be fine - he needs some attention and care. Apparently anything beyond letting him sit inside of his crate like a heavily medicated vegetable with a cone on his head for 6 weeks makes me an irresponsible owner yet they can't even correctly fit him with a cast. I could do a better job myself. I will never go here again! Read Less

I haven't ever been to an er vet before so I am not sure how late night/early am staff is. I arrive and am trying to keep my dog on its leash while trying to talk to the vet tech at the door. One of the girls thinks I am deaf. I am not deaf and I tell the girl "I am not deaf." I go in the room and meet with the doctor and he assesses the issue and takes my dog to do some tests and comes back shortly. I am waiting for the results....The vet calls the cops!! He questioned my ability to drive. I was asleep prior so its not like I was drunk. The cops come and go. Pretty simple. They knew nothing was wrong.I haven't ever dealt with so many people who make the wrong assumptions and are vocal about it...especially a business you are overpaying for. I went bc I was worried about my dog. I should have just waited until the next day and it would have been fine. Now I have to go to an actual vet so I won't have to pay super high.

I was not concerned at that time because if he was going to have another seizure he was in the right place. Read Less

During a time when someone needs the most sensitivity - because I'm worried and concerned about my pet - I expected more kindness and professionalism from the receptionist. She told me I had to wait in the car/outside because of a risk of my dog being contagious. With over an hour wait. I understand the risk, but outside?!? In addition to being rude. I quickly called the Emergency Animal Hospital in South Austin. They were understanding, nice, and gave me a room to stay in while I waited for the doctor. Wasn't impressed with this place. Read Less

Came in tonight with a dog that had clearly been abandoned, they checked him for a microchip within seconds of us arriving (unfortunately there wasn't any information registered with the chip). The fact that this animal hospital is open 24/7 is amazing. The rates are $91 for emergency and I think $51 for scheduled visits. Not bad at all! The receptionist was amazing! She was caring, friendly, and you could definitely tell how much she cares about animals. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning if my pup needs some urgent medical care. Read Less

I haven't written a review before, which I should have done by now, but recently my yorkie required immediate life-saving surgery and they took care of him so wonderfully!!  Literally by the next day he was practically hisself again, and two weeks later, he's back at 100%.

Needless to say, the 24/7 feature is nice.... Not if the service is garbage 24/7. Read Less

Read Less
