Rosedale Veterinary Clinic

Austin, Texas
General Info
Rosedale Veterinary Clinic in Austin delivers consistent veterinary services to Texas families by supporting new puppy care and aging pet needs through life's transitions, behavior shifts, and unexpected turns. Listening shapes appointments through pet behavior observation combined with household schedule patterns and weekly family notices. During initial visits veterinarians perform comprehensive physical examinations that assess dental health, gait patterns, joint mobility, eye conditions, hydration status and nervous system responses. The people who own pets can communicate recent behavior patterns including alterations in eating habits, sleeping patterns, and their pet's acceptance of being handled. The structures within these patterns enable care pacing while avoiding premature decision-making. The Rosedale Veterinary Clinic provides an array of services including preventive care alongside diagnostic panels and weight tracking while also offering surgical consults together with senior wellness services and chronic condition coaching. The design of plans takes into account each family’s unique setting whether they live in a city apartment facing new noise challenges or manage a household with pets at various life stages. Transition strategies enable pet owners to maintain confidence while their pet's needs evolve from preventive care to monitoring or from immediate solutions to sustained balance. Every step receives clear explanation in simple language while progress gets evaluated through behavior consistency ease of home care and readiness for future visits. The team decides against burdening families with numerous tasks by spacing activities through built-in flexibility and optional check-ins. Rosedale Veterinary Clinic delivers veterinary services to Austin families and those across Texas through a method that aligns with natural pet life cycles by being responsive organized and rooted in mutual advancement.

I have been taking my dog to Dr. McReynolds for years - 7 or 8? I am out of town a lot and I also take her to Camp 4 Paws. It has been great. I think McReynolds is a smart, capable vet and I believe my dog has received excellent care there. We have never had a problem with Camp 4 Paws. But recently I had a friend visiting from Canada with her dog. She and her dog are actually visiting Canada from Germany. Air Alaska wants a health certificate before they will fly any dog, something that says the dog has seen a vet within 10 days of flying. I also take my son's dog to McReynolds. They called to tell me he needed his Bordatela, I said OK and would you also see my friend's dog for the flight check thing. The person on the phone said No. I said, what? Why? She told me she didn't "know the reasons why - just no". I told her I needed to know the reasons why so I could figure out what to do next. She promised to find out and call me back. She didn't. I called her back and she said again, she didn't know why and it wasn't her the first time (though it was). She finally asked and then told me the vet isn't certified for international dog travel certification. I told her we didn't need that - the dog was HERE - so he has the certification for that. I just needed the health certificate. They called me back to explain pedantically that dogs have to have an international certificate to travel. I explained that we HAVE that. We only needed the health certificate for Alaskan Air. She then READ AA's policy to me. I said will you see the dog and give us a health certificate? Um, only if I signed something that said I am aware that this is NOT an international certificate. WHAT? She said they cannot be held responsible if my friend got held up at the border, because I need an international certificate, and they can't provide that, and they need SOMETHING that says I understand that. I told her I SAID I understand that. Apparently that wasn't good enough for the people who were having a REALLY hard time understanding what was being asked of them AND WHAT WAS NOT. In the end my friend went in and showed them the health certificates she had from Canada and Germany and they gave her one. No problem. I, however, have never received a phone call apologizing for the insane and insulting phone calls and difficulty in achieving this incredibly simple thing. So I am going to find a new vet's office that doesn't make me want to throw my phone against the wall, for Pete's sake. Read Less

Horrible. My cat is on a prescription diet. My cat has had cancer and a history of some pancreatitis in the past and has allergies so it's critical that she eat the right food to manage her conditions. It is critical that she eat the PRESCRIPTION FOOD. This clinic makes it so difficult to obtain the food, I dread calling every 3 months to fill the prescription. The the staff is rude and consistently uninformed. When I call to order a refill of her food I am told that it will be a matter of days and I should expect a call when it arrives. I do not receive the calls. I follow up and am told I can come at any time during business hours. When I arrive, no one is there and there no note posted that they may have stepped out or when they will return. I am self-employed and have clients myself so it's very difficult to get away from my own office so this is a frustrating experience compounded by the fact that when I call to find out what happened or when I can pick up the food, I am spoken to rudely and given no other options but to wait until the following business day (2 more days because of a weekend) in order to pick up the food. This week I called on Monday to get the food refilled. I was told to bring my cat in for an examination before they could continue to fill the prescription. Totally appropriate, as it had been some time since her last exam. In the meantime, I was told the food would be ready for me to pick up on Wednesday and I would receive a call. No call. On Thursday I called to follow up and was informed the food is on back order and they didn't know when they would be able to order the food. But that I could get a written prescription to take it to another vendor to purchase the food elsewhere. I could obtain this prescription at the appointment on Friday with my cat. Friday morning (today)  I discover the AC in my car is shot and it's over 98 degrees outside. I'm concerned about driving her to the vet. I called to ask what my options were. I was spoken to in a rude and condescending manner and was informed that another person would return my call later. Which I didn't really understand - but okay. At 12:45 I call to follow up as I'm afraid my cat will not have her prescription diet over the weekend, again. I am spoken to again in a rude and condescending manner, when I tried to clarify questions the receptionist yelled, "ma'am DO NOT SPEAK TO ME THIS WAY!" What? I said, "please do not speak to me in the way you just did" and she SLAMMED down the phone.Nice.Rude, unhelpful and not client friendly. I will never return. Apparently it's completely okay to hang up on a customer trying to get her cats prescription food and leave me (my CAT) without her prescribed food. Thank god I wasn't ever in the position of needing a higher level of care for my cats as the communication is awful and I don't trust them at all.Why do people think customers are a dime a dozen? How awful. Read Less

I made the mistake of trying to find a vet closer to my new home and was astounded at how much I disliked them compared to Rosedale and Dr. McReynolds. I have always gotten the feeling that she really cared. For example, when my previous dog died unexpectedly (and was taken to an emergency vet, so not even the same office), Rosedale sent a sympathy card signed by the entire staff. I brought my newly rescued Rottweiler in for a physical check up and get the vet's opinion. Everyone there was scared of the dog, and they didn't do much inspection of him. They took him away from me to the back for a fecal check, which was a bad idea to separate a dog from it's owner, to do the procedure. They muzzled him, which I'm sure made him nervous, and decided not to do a fecal check. It was kinda ridiculous. Nevertheless, I paid them for not much of an opinion. I was told 4 Rottweilers have been here before, but I don't believe they have much experience with this breed. I'm sure they're fine with small dogs. Just don't come here if you have a big "scary" one. Read Less

Sometimes you run into incredibly rude people with zero self awareness.  That is the only explanation I can come up with for some of these bad reviews. Trust me when I say, my pup LOVES Rosedale.  She gets excited every time we have an appointment, which I find bizarre.  The workers are always sweet and Dr. McReynolds has been wonderful.  Did an amazing job repairing our girl's mouth after she was attacked by another dog, and the price was unbelievable.  I could not believe how well they took care of us.  I will admit that perhaps they are kind to us because we don't read up on PetMD and then puff our chests our and pretend that we are more qualified than the Dr.  We have since moved to New Orleans, and not having Rosedale is certainly one of the saddest parts about leaving Austin. If you want to know what a rude, unprofessional, nickel and diming veterinary clinic REALLY looks like, let me know.  I've got a perfect one for you. Read Less

Dr. Karen McReynolds is amazing. She is very thorough with her examinations and she never tries to upsell, which many veterinarians have bad reputations for. She always offers simple and easy ways to keep my dog healthy and never takes advantage of my concern for my baby!  Also, the other day my dog had a terrible reaction to something and was vomitting and pooping all at once and uncontrollably. I instantly called the office and they were just about to close, but Dr. McReynolds waited for me to bring my dog in and treated her for over an hour until she felt comfortable that my dog was on the mend. She was so dedicated and saved me so much heartache. I am forever grateful! The staff at Rosedale veterinary clinic is also so great. I've taken two dogs here for about a year and have finally had enough. The front desk person has a major attitude (apparently she's a co-owner of the practice, so this isn't ever going to improve). Both she and Dr. McReynolds seem to have chips on their shoulders that I've never quite figured out. I think I earned a major black mark on my record when my dog was first diagnosed with diabetes. Even though she told me they'd only worked with 2 diabetic dogs before, the very mention of a specialist or a second opinion on the treatment plan caused tension you could cut with a knife. Today was my last appointment with them and when she asked where I was taking him, she snickered and said "Oh yeah, you're the one who thought we didn't have enough experience." That's just the start of the unprofessionalism. If the care were better, it would be easier to look past personality problems. But I'm reading over the records tonight and the staff regularly misrecorded information in the chart. This morning, when I brought my dog in after a night in the emergency hospital, Dr. McReynolds looked confused by many of the details of his treatment overnight. She took it personally that he's been given a different kind of insulin, but totally failed to understand that it was a fast-acting insulin to treat a specific episode, and nobody was questioning her. But again, there's a big chip of insecurity on their shoulders, and that clouds medical judgment. My dog, who is normally well-behaved at the vet or groomer absolutely HATED it here. He yelped and whined the whole time he'd be forced to stay until finally they made me do my own glucose curves at home because he was do stressed by the place. I don't doubt the reviews from people who have just had a few checkups here or those whose pet was "saved" by Rosedale. It seems that when things are routine (and so long as you never, ever ask anything that threatens them), it's a presentable practice. What resonates with me are the stories of missed diagnoses and poor care. If only I'd listened to my gut and gone for that second opinion earlier, I wouldn't have put my dog through the life-threatening "care" that left him so poorly regulated. It's so easy to put our faith in doctors, but where Dr. McReynolds is concerned, I'm reminded of the old riddle: "What do you call the student last in her class at medical school?" Answer: "Doctor" Read Less

Great service, accommodating staff. Best part of this place is Dr. McReynolds. She is great with dogs and provides sound advice. The facilities are clean and dog-friendly without feeling overly sterile and unwelcoming. One tip - call well in advance of when you need an appointment. They are busy! Read Less

They are always so friendly and call to remind me when its time to update my dogs shots Read Less

They consistently provide the best of care for our little pup (who is a full grown dog, but is treated like a baby ;)The office is clean and new which is a nice bonus to the great care they offer. They are also very practical with recommendations that won't break the bank and accommodate owners needs as well as pets.Another highlight is that they are next door to, and co-own Camp 4 Paws where you can drop your dog off to play.
