We boarded our cats here while we were on vacation. Few places have cat boarding! It was great that they could offer this service. The cats got daily play time, access to the food at SAH for free and it cost us $20/day per cat. While we were on vacation we also got videos and photos of the cats playing. I love this place. The vets are terrific. I've seen every one, and they're incredibly professional, compassionate and great with Maggie. The vet techs and office staff are awesome, too. Switched to them when we adopted our dog that was heart worm positive - they have a relationship with the city to treat adopted dogs. I have been bringing my 3 cats here since October 2016. From the time you book your appointment, the staff is working to take care of your pet.  Amanda, Ali and the rest of the front desk staff are knowledgeable, friendly and sharp.  My cats have seen Dr. Buel and Dr. Bates both of whom provide excellent care to our pets.  It is in times of difficulty and crises that you really see how well a team works and this team shines.  Even when fully booked, they made space for us as our pets were in transistion.  In the last two weeks we have lost are two most senior cats (Azzizzi and Cleo), one died at home and the other we had put down at the clinic. In both cases the doctors worked incredibly hard to give our pets the best care possible. From research and follow-up visits for an unusual parasite that one of our cats contracted to removing a bladder stone in the other, our cats  were well taken care of.  Dr. Buell even went so far as to send a lovely handwritten note of condolence. So often in life it is the little kindnesses that mean the most. There have been more small kindnesses than I can count since we began to bring our pets to Spicewood Springs. Now they are not the cheapest game in town, and we have spent a small fortune there, but I could not ask for better care. I am very grateful to have them caring for our pet family. Read Less

There's a reason I still bring my animals here even after I moved away and now back to Austin. It's always worth the drive. The doctors, techs and front desk staff are extremely patient, gentle and kind, and I have never, ever, felt rushed. Dr. Buel is the best veterinarian I have ever met. She expresses genuine interest in getting to know my pets, asks questions and gathers every detail before making any diagnoses, and she makes sure I am fully satisfied and informed before leaving.I went in for a checkup/vaccinations today, and Dr. Buel even remembered every detail about my other cat who I left at home, even though his last appointment with her was almost two years ago! We will not be boarding our two dogs here again overnight. The first two times we boarded, we booked luxury suites but never had webcam access, and thought all was well. However, this time we were given the webcam passcode when we boarded, and it was enlightening. A luxury run theoretically came with more bathroom breaks and constant access to a covered patio. Reality: The door to my dogs' patio was open maybe 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm. We dropped off at 10:30 am. Their kennel was dark, with no access outside, from 7 pm to 7:30 am. Saturday, again, the dog door was open 7:30-1 pm, and again 5-7 pm. Now here's the best part--the light was off and their dog door closed, with no one checking on them, from 7 pm to 8:30 am Sunday. 13.5 hours, no break. Our otherwise perfectly house trained dogs had an accident, of course, and Monday morning, their bedding smelled. Sunday night they went 7 pm to 7 am without a break or even access to their covered patio. Thank goodness we could pick them up at 7:30 am Monday--no Sunday pickups. We have two senior dogs, one with cushings disease and one with a heart murmur, so we thought a vet's office would be the better option for them. After complaining, we learned that the reason for the long night break was that a neighbor had complained in the past so they changed hours. That's fine, but the reality of nearly 14 hours without a bathroom break, boarded in a small room, without the dog door access the luxury run is supposed to include, is unacceptable. The practice group manager apologized, but that doesn't make it okay. The practice manager did call to apologize and offer a full refund, and said she would try to address our concerns, with most hope given to the issue of a soiled bed being left in my dogs room for 24 hours. The refund was appreciated, but until they get the issue resolved of the number of hours at night without a break solved, we will not be boarding here again overnight. Read Less

Our family has been going to SSAH for over 15 years. Similar to all of the previous glowing reviews our customer experience has been nothing less than world-class. The staff is knowledgeable, sincere, empathetic, compassionate and consistently professional especially when it comes to the follow up.. I can go on forever with more superlatives but I think everone by now gets the message. Dr. B is very well respected throughout the Veterinary community and his network of specialists he's referred us to are top notch as well. What got me at "hello" was when Dr. B volunteered to come to our house to put our beloved Mia to sleep so we could minimize the stress and keep her as comfortable as possible in her last few hrs on earth. 2 years ago we moved to South Austin, but where do you think we still take our girls...yep SSAH cause they deserve it. Dr Benaryeh is the most caring, attentive, thorough vet ever! He is so patient and takes all the time we need to answer questions and weigh options. He returns calls quickly. Our dog had the very best care he could have had with Dr B! Sadly, we had to put our sweet dog down recently and Dr B could not have been more sensitive, caring and patient while helping us make the decision and seeing it through with us to the end. After moving to Austin, Dr. Buel came highly recommended by my first in home pet sitter.  I have had mixed interactions with Spicewood Springs front staff and kennel, but Dr. Buel is always consistently awesome.  I love her no-nonsense straight forward informative approach, and she never pushes unnecessary treatments or medicine.  She will answer emails to ensure a visit is even necessary, and always provides a check in call following appointments.  She truly cares about our dogs, and most importantly our dogs love her.  They actually look forward to coming and visiting Dr. Buel even though she pokes them in strange places.  We have seen one other doctor in the clinic as a back up, and she was great as well.  The space is small, but always clean, and the lobby is comfortable. They offer free soda and Keurig coffee while waiting.The front staff seems to always be in a state of rotation, and they often get things mixed up, so I am just always extra careful when dealing with them.  They started using a new user friendly online system, that enables you to view your dogs health charts, and book appointments easier which is a bonus.The kennel is small, affordable, and overall OK, but doesn't have much space for larger dogs to get out and play.  Plus, the staff seemed to change often, and they never seemed to remember or like our dogs.  There were a few instances that came up during our pets stay, and the owners were quick to respond by email and rectify the situation, but overall we ended up finding a better match for our dogs somewhere else.  The dogs were always safe though, and in a clean environment. The entire staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The two things that stand out most are their "bed side" manner and their commitment to their patients (furry and human alike). My dog is slow to warm up to strangers and was won over by receptionists, vet techs, vets, and kennel staff in our first visit. How well they treat her in the kennel or in the back when giving her shots, etc, is proven by her obvious trust in them. The good folks at Spicewood Springs Animal Hospital also kept my dog while she was very sick and I was out of state recently. Dr. Benaryeh called me three times a day to give updates on what tests/procedures they were trying and to let me know how she was doing. Thanks to their great care my dog was better and ready to come home when I got back, and thanks to their attentiveness I was able to sleep while away knowing I was up to date and my dog was in good hands. Dr. Wagner & Dr.Benaryeh are TOP NOTCH Vets. This hospital was very clean & staff was nice. My cat had a sudden sickness(Pancreatitis) on a Saturday and I did'nt know who to call or where to go until I found this clinic close to my residence. I'm glad I choose them because I felt very comfortable leaving my cat in their care. To be expected, the bill was a bit much but in the end my cat is expected to recover and well worth the heartach to ensure a clean bill of health. Thanks Spicewood Springs AH!! Read Less
