Vca Anderson Mill Animal Hospital

Austin, Texas
General Info
At Vca Anderson Mill Animal Hospital in Austin pets and their owners find participatory care spaces where communication unfolds through bodily movements and energy shifts common to Texan households. Examinations initiate not through physical contact but by capturing focus. Staff scrutinize tiny animal actions such as eye contact initiation, breathing patterns upon hearing voices, and movement tendencies toward or away from motion stimuli. Care then unfolds in parts. The examination of skin, coat, and joints relies on the pet's anchoring movements combined with its leaning and stiffening actions. Teeth examination along with abdominal checks and heart rhythm assessments commence once trust indicators become visible. Simultaneously, pet owners deliver contextual information about alterations in daily patterns alongside emergent auditory stimuli their pets respond to and shifts in walking or feeding schedules. Vca Anderson Mill Animal Hospital provides a wide range of services including early-life exams and diagnostics alongside energy balance strategies and oral health planning as well as age-related joint tracking and illness-specific mapping. The temporal dimensions fluctuate according to behavioral patterns. Certain appointments progress rapidly due to the presence of definitive consent indicators. Some changes unfold gradually across different phases allowing the animal to understand each step. Pets have access to designated quiet areas and pause zones where they can recalibrate before proceeding. The focus of post-visit care shifts toward household translation. Observe sleep patterns alongside routine reintroduction while watching for silent cues such as family withdrawal appetite loss or spatial guarding. The recommendation for owners now includes monitoring time intervals alongside symptom tracking. At what time does restlessness appear? During which daily period do hesitations reach their maximum frequency? Vca Anderson Mill Animal Hospital provides assistance to families in Austin and nearby Texas regions by recognizing animal behavior as a dynamic communication method which pets display through every subtle pause and nudge in their daily interactions.

We had our first visit/exam at AMAC yesterday and I am so relieved to have found a place that I think will be a great match for my sweet little girl. My Annie means the world to me and like most pet owners, her care and well-being is so important. Giovanni was our vet tech and I found him to be very kind and informed. Annie typically shakes her way through an appointment but she stopped shaking and seemed rather safe and comfortable...must have been the energy! Annie is scheduled for her very first sleep over next week and I have a feeling everything is going to be okay. Finding a great vet is easy but finding a COMPASSIONATE great vet is another story. I have had two pets put down and not because I didn't want to pay for their care but because they no longer had a quality of life. I have used Anderson Mill Animal Clinic off and on during the last 15 + years and always had an excellent experience. Recently, not so much. When I took my 18 yo cat in for his check up, I listened to quite a few recommendations for him ranging from seeing a heart specialist to a kitty eye doctor. It really seemed as though I were in a used car place with all the recommended add on's. Yes, he does have a dental issue but he is not in pain and still eats without any issues. I honestly felt like the vet was pushing tests on an elderly cat vs. a routine check up. Not sure how many pet parents would agree to hundreds of dollars (more like into the thousands) for testing of an 18 yo animal. It should be more of a "let's make sure he is comfortable, not in pain, eating, using the bathroom" vs. send him to a kitty cardiologist for a suspected heart murmur. I will say, that when I put my 17 yo cat to sleep this past summer, they were amazing. Read Less

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. I am giving one star and it's because I don't know how to not pick any stars at all. It seems like the "Veterinarians" here are still going to school, maybe even on their first day! The Doctor sounded like she had no idea what she was talking about, just throwing possibilities irresponsibly with a big amount of insecurity while she was talking, non coherent arguments that were easily disregarded by us and there was never a well-done full check up during consultation; even the x-rays where not done with my dog in the right position. What they fully do, and with no remorse is charge! Because on the second day when we went there with our dog ONLY for the purpose of ordering that our x-rays were sent to the radiologist, we got charged for a non-existent "Doctor Consultation" just for the "bla, bla, bla" time that the Doctor that was around spent going around in circles and giving a completely different opinion to what we had gotten the day before from her colleague, just to backtrack on that and change her mind once us, as customers, corrected her and told her what we had been told. When we talked to the person that was at the register and complained about being charged for a consultation, aside from showing a visibly upset face, she said that we were being charged for the consultation just for the time that the "Doctor" had spent talking to us... what a whole bunch of crap. Basically we didn't get anything solved, just referred to "specialists" and paid a lot of money for something that we already knew. Oh, and do not call, because you'll either be put on hold automatically or get answered by someone that seems to be annoyed by answering the phone. Never taking my dog back and would suggest that none of you do. Good thing for them is, they can only get better from the point they're at right now because it couldn't be worse. Read Less

Anderson Mill has been my vet clinic for seven years, and I love them. I have a primary vet and have also seen most of their half-dozen vets at least once. AMAC's vets have cared for my own animals and many "community" and rescue cats. They've done routine exams and vaccinations, dental cleanings, and treatment for many minor illnesses and several major ones. They've referred me to good specialists for allergies, radiology, surgery, and internal medicine.AMAC's vets were wonderful with end-of-life advice and care for my cat who died in January. I had to make hard medical and financial choices, and I'd have had a bad time without their help. They're helping me again as I care for my dog's liver cancer. The vets are compassionate, generous with their time, patient with my questions, and respectful of my choices.I used to live conveniently near Anderson Mill. I've since moved 30 minutes away, and could as easily go to one of many well-recommended vets near me. With multiple animals all needing visits on different schedules, that would save a lot of driving time. But I'd have to move a lot farther before I'd take my animals to another vet. Read Less

I'm sad to see some of the reviews for this place. I haven't been here in awhile but Dr. Codding is everything you want out of a vet. He's honest, he doesn't sugar coat anything but he is friendly about it. Not many vets would be upfront and he's been in the business for a very long time. The only viable complaint I've seen here is the wait time. I always scheduled my visits there with my dogs on my day off but that's just because just like any appointment anywhere, there's always some sort of wait. Normally the only folks that have to wait are walk ins (unless it's an emergency.)Last time I was there, I waited well over 45 minutes, but the staff let me know it was gonna be a pretty long wait because they had an emergency in-take which was understandable. A pet's life is more important than my pup's yearly exam. It's called compassion people, learn it.Pricing is pretty fantastic too, probably some of the best pricing for an exam in the area. Thanks for taking care of Austin's pets, y'all! Read Less

We bring our pooch here, and it's always a bit of a wait time, but overall it seems like a well-run clinic.I like that the lobby has separate cat / dog waiting areas. The front desk staff are always friendly. We've been going since 2015. We have seen Dr. Broussard & Dr. Coleman. Both seem to love animals, one of them seems friendlier, but both have been okay. The prices for the visits are okay. I think they added a fee to walk in visits, called an "urgent care" fee, so I would recommend setting up an appointment before going. We have gotten prescription dog food here in the past for our dog, but his allergies still didn't clear up, so I ended up switching him to another dog food (that non prescription one actually worked). We have also taken a tour of their boarding facility, we ended up using different doggie daycare / boarding facilities but this one seems like an ok back up plan. Read Less

Every time my pets visited this clinic, even for a simple annual appointment, we were returning within the week for a 'complication'. We never left without spending nearly $80-$100 more than what we were quoted, even after receiving no additional services than what was originally quoted. The two drs we had there were both so very rude and one even made fun of my dog! The examination rooms were very dirty, so new puppy owners beware. And do not be surprised if you have to continually fill out the same 'new patient' check in paperwork, nearly every time you visit. My 3 yr old cat has never had any issues with any vaccine he's ever received, except for the one time he received one at Anderson. He was unable to walk for two weeks! This incident wouldn't have seemed suspicious until we brought our brand new healthy puppy there and within a week of visiting, he became extremely ill. We had two more incidents after those. At the time of our first visit with our cat, he was heavier and the dr did nothing but talk down to me and belittle me about his weight instead of trying to help me write up a plan for him that didn't involve buying the food they sold at the clinic. Then when we brought our puppy for his 'new puppy' check-up, another dr would not honor my simple request about keeping him off the disgusting floor (he was only 9 wks!) and even made fun of him for it! Another time we visited the dr for boosters, yet again, she made fun of him for being TERRIFIED of her! 1. He's a puppy. The world is scary. But 2. Our dog is one of the most trusting and loving dogs, I've ever met. So for him to be so scared of HER, that was our sign to immediately find another vet. With all that being said, the two things I did like about the clinic:MOST of the front desk was friendly. And they have separate sitting areas for cats and dogs Read Less

They don't care about your pet. We took one of our dogs there the day after Thanksgiving because our normal vet clinic was closed. They ended up running a bill over $400 which included lab work and x-rays. They came to the conclusion that our dog was constipated and needed a enema. But they didn't have time to do it and sent us to the ER clinic down the road. They also said they would consult a specialist and get back to us on Monday. That ER clinic did their thing and we spent another $500 there. The ER clinic reported to us that our dog was not constipated and did not need that enema. We waited on Monday for a call from Anderson Mill and got nothing. So we tried calling Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, etc... and was never put in contact with the doctor. I guess the doctor was ashamed that she got the wrong diagnosis. We'll never go back to Anderson Mill Animal Clinic and we recommend you drive a little further for a better vet. Read Less

After they asked us to spend quite a lot of money on tests for our cat (which she passed with flying colors) they put my cat on a diet and a few weeks later, when she got ringworm, prescribed a medication that can lead to a fatty liver disease without any warnings whatsoever for what to look out for. Unfortunately, due to diet and the medication, our cat did get fatty liver disease which progressed very quickly and she died. While I could have researched the medication myself, they are the vets and should have mentioned something about this possibility. The emergency vets were horrified to hear that the cat was on the medication and on a diet at the same time. I will never forgive myself for taking my cat to them. To top it off I have tried to unsubscribe from their incessant emails about getting my now dead cat another check up. I have followed the unsubscribe instructions, and I have also emailed them > 5 times. Alas no response but the spam emails keep coming--I keep getting reminders every few weeks about services i could pay them for. If you love your pet - I recommend Burnet Road Animal Hospital. They are not flashy; in fact their decor is rather dated. But the vets there really care about the pets, how to communicate with their owners, and do not order a bunch of tests just to line their own pockets. Read Less

We left our two dogs for boarding while we went to NYC to visit some colleges with our daughter. The day we left (7/22) we received a call that our beloved Tokyo (English bulldog) had passed away. We couldn't believe it. After we returned we asked what happened, all they will tell us is that they found the dog unresponsive during a normal walk to check the boarding dogs. How did this happened? Our dog was healthy and only two years old. We had to convince them to not charge us for the boarding (less than a day) and to pay for the costs of cremating our Tokyo. We were still charged over $400 for the boarding of our other dog. When we asked to speak to the owner (Allen Codding) we were told he was unreachable and instead we needed to speak to the front desk supervisor (Jodi). We have suggested that they could at least help us financially with the cost of getting a dog similar to Tokyo to perhaps alleviate the pain and the hole the death of Tokyo left in our family. Their answer was no, that instead they will just give us a discount on services once we got the new puppy! Seriously? We will not left any of our dogs under the care of Anderson Mill Animal Clinic. We came to this vet when our puppy was not feeling well. On top of just trying to sell us a bunch of crap we didnt need, when we were there the vet tried to give us a "talk" regarding raw feeding.  It's hard to describe what it's like to watch someone who's supposed to be smart, tell me that a carnivore can't eat raw meat and bones. Apparently she missed that class that spoke about how tiny the difference is in wolf and dog DNA, or how their teeth and digestive systems haven't changed at all during domestication. I am just supposed to take her word that there's some magical reason why dogs have evolved to only be able to eat dry kibble...yea right. My domestic cat can go outside and kill birds and eat them, but God forbid a dog try to eat meat and bone. They literally tried to charge us $5  for disposal of any surgical objects like needles that need to be disposed of safely.  That may not seem like much, but keep in mind that they don't pay to dispose of every single needle that they use.  They're making $5 a pop off their customers for nothing, on top of their already heavily marked up prices for everything else. I was a vet tech at Animal Trustees of Austin and we never nickel and dimed our customers like these people do. Also the vet has horrible manners, she's cold, distant and non caring. Back to our search for a good vet that's not in the pocket of the pet food industry.... who knew it would be so hard to find an honest vet who actually cares about dogs more than their bank account. I recently relocated to 1 mile away from this clinic, and since my dog chipped her tooth last night, I needed a new vet ASAP. I brought her in this morning and they were unable to allow me to drop her off since she wasn't an established patient. As a medical professional, I need a vet that allows me to drop my dog off in the morning as to not interfere with my own patient schedule. I understand that they couldn't allow me to drop her off since she's new to them, but the front desk wasn't friendly about it, and I notice they charge an additional $20 for "urgent care" visits.  I'm glad I chose to drive the 30 minutes to my old vet (2222 vet clinic), as they are MUCH more accommodating (no additional charge for drop offs/ walk-ins) and have a much friendlier staff. I wouldn't recommend this facility if you're new to their clinic. Read Less

Very disappointed with the lack of performance by our vet.  Everything was immediately oriented around selling extremely expensive services (MRI, CAT scan, scope, overpriced lab work) on a 14 year old dog on her last legs.  Never bothered to read our chart, do basics like taking her temperature or weigh her (she had lost 11 pounds) until I asked, and we left not knowing any more than when we got there, except for a $285 bill.  I don't like someone who is supposed to be a trusted health care provider constantly "managing my expectations" for services for which you are charging far more than they do for humans!Plus the vet never even mentioned the obvious diagnosis - our dog is VERY OLD and had a serious stroke in November which she has somewhat clawed back from, and all of her symptoms suddenly came on a couple of days ago.  How this points to a UTI with absolutely no evidence shows a lack of skill on the part of the vet we saw, who will never treat our animals again. Not surprised at their need to overcharge their customers.  While there, I saw at least five of their staff jabbering behind the counter doing nothing productive, except generating salary that they have to pass onto customers like us.I don't mind paying for service, but I expect value.  I didn't get it. I have been taking my dog here for over a year and they are amazing. I love that I get email reminders from them when my dog is due for things, and they are always willing to fit me into their schedule considering I have a pretty chaotic schedule. They really care about your animal and their experience as well. My dog is very sweet and doesn't mind going to the vet, except getting his temperature taken. So, they don't take his temperature unless they absolutely HAVE to. They are also always quick to get us in and out. No sitting around long after your appointment time.Read Less

Without exception this is a wonderful operation. The care our pets receive is outstanding. The staff is very friendly. They even know each member of our family by name, including the furry ones. No mean feat considering that my wife and I have different last names, and we have had two dogs and recently added two cats. They care about their patients and their families and it shows. As a customer I really feel that the primary motivation at this vet is to ensure that our pets receive quality care. Dr. Codding gives us advice as though our pets are his own and has done his level best to save us money more than once. Really appreciated the good service at the front desk- very sweet ladies & the vet tech who was friendly and sweet towards my dog...but wasn't really pleased with the service or attention of the actual vet we visited on our very first visit here. Dr. B didn't seem to care much about my dog or address concerns/questions I had about helping my dog heal/prevent future events.  Spent $200 & she didn't find what was wrong with her paw-- which is ok, I understand it's not always possible. But she also didn't give any useful tips to do at home that may help my dog... just recommended we spend more money there to get Xrays or come back if the antibiotics don't work. I found more help using google. They also nicked my dog's injured paw while trimming her fur on that paw & she was given sedation! And charged us $23 to trim fur off that one paw. At least they could've trimmed it for free if you're going to make my dog's paw bleed. We'll likely be bringing our dog elsewhere ... if we do come back, we'll be requesting a different vet. Anderson Mill Animal Clinic has forever earned my business. On one the worst days of my life they were there to show just how much they care. The morning of my sister-in-law's funeral I had to make an appointment for my beloved Rogue. The appointment wasn't with our usual vet, but I had no apprehensions as I had never had a bad experience with anyone at the clinic After returning home I found him in a bad state so I scooped him, grabbed my mother, & brought him in nearly 20 minutes before my appointment. I walked in tears flowing freely knowing that Rogue wasn't coming home; they went above & beyond for me. I was immediately taken back to a room & the front staff made sure to tell both the tech & the vet that I had just come from the funeral. Both women came in with such care & compassion, which helped both my mother & I. When Dr. M came in to do the exam & give me my options she cried mine, & my mother's, tears. The office waived all of their fees that afternoon & solidified themselves as our family veterinarian clinic for as long as we live in the area & have a pet. A month later I found myself back with my other dog Gabby who was as depressed as I about losing our darling Rogue. After much deliberating I decided on getting another dog to help ease Gabby's pain. When I brought Vista in to see Dr. Codding, our normal vet, to make sure she was alright I brought my nieces with me. They were only 2 & 3 1/2 years old & still suffering the lost of their mother. Again, the staff informed the tech & Dr. Codding of the loss that we were still reeling with at home. When Dr. Codding came in & my eldest niece told him that she too wants to be a veterinarian he immediately asked her if she would like to do the exam with him. It made her day as he let her see Vista's eyes & ears after him as well as listen to Vista's heart as he had. Anderson Mill Animal Clinic is an amazing practice with whom you can, & should, trust your beloved pet to.Read Less

I've been taking my dog to Anderson Mill AC for 13yrs. All the veternarians they have staffed and that have seen my dog were always top-notch and excellent. However, over the past several years, calling into the front office staff is painful. They act irritated, rude and incompasionate to anyone that is not standing in front of them. I had one case where one of the desk girls was questioning why I had an appointment scheduled. She was so rude and the 20 questions were not necessary since I was there for a scheduled visit to see the Dr and spend good money. I am and have been so thoroughly disgusted with their customer service I wish I could take my dog somewhere else. But since he's in his last days I will continue to go there. I was taking my cat to Block House Creek Animal Hospital for 15yrs until she passed away at almost the age of 20. Their office staff was always the best. A far cry from Anderson Mill's front office service. The next dog in our family will not be going to Anderson Mill, that's for sure. Read Less

Dr. Vijay literally saved my life. I had been going to another doctor for years. He had me convinced that I was a hypochodriac. I was to the point that if something was really bad, I wouldn't go - because he couldn't diagnose me, it was in my head. I found Dr. Vijay following a near death experience from sepsis. She was able to diagnose what was wrong, set up a treatment plan, and locate excellent specialists when needed. I have gone from a very sick person to a remarkably healthy one, albeit carefully monitored and balanced one! I would recommend her to anyone, and have to most of my family. She doesn't sugar-coat the truth, and will scold you if you aren't with ""the plan"", but is very very compasionate and intuitive with her treatment. They have a horrible bedside manner, the took my sick pet away from me when I requested them not to do that and they brought my cat back... it was covered in rubbing alcohol, wezzing and turning blue the vet even said ""I feel bad because we made him in worse shape then how you brought him here"" I told them my cat was breathing funny so there answer was to pour rubbing alcohol on him and shoove him in a container to smother him! Alcohol takes my breath away why would you smother a cat that is having breathing problems with it then put him in a confided space! To make matters worse they as my cat was on the ground gasping for air and I was laying next to him crying in agony screaming ""what did you do to my cat, I do I don't know what to do!"" They tell me ""we aren't sure what is wrong but he's suffering now and he's not going to get better"" Then the nurse comes in as my world is crumbling around me, she puts a form in front of me to sign off for them to kill him. I felt like I had not choice, I was alone there I wasn't thinking I was in distress... I had just been telling my kitty on the way to the vet that everything was going to be ok and I wouldn't leave him there. It wasn't I laid next to my cat the whole time until he passed I looked into his eyes as he left me. They then took his corpse away from me and refused to give him back for me to bury him unless I gave them a check for $200. I canceled the check the next day, they killed my cat I don't know what they did to him when they took him away from me against my will but they did something and it made him not be able to breath and they forced me to sign forms under extreme emotional distress. Now they are threatening to report me to Williamson County. I brought my pet to be seen and let them know my animal was sick. I explained one of my other pets had the same thing however passed away shortly after. I asked the doctor to do anything to save my pet. I said she might be pregnant and I don't want to lose her or the babies. I told her I was afraid she was going to die and to help her out any way she can. I also explained the death of the other pet was very stressful on my children so that's why we are there. The dr sent us home and said nothing was wrong with her. She only checked her lungs and throat. That was it. No blood test, nothing! She said just watch her and make sure she eats. She ate and pass away in my daughters arms. When I told them about it they had zero... ZERO compation. They played the pointing fingers game and basically I got no where with them! I would never take my pets there to die again! What a tragedy. I guess they think I am one out of Austin who doesn't like them and that's OK with then. Horrible, just horrible! Read Less

We laughed when "Marley and Me" came out because of all the similarities between Marley's story and our own.  Our yellow lab was named Barley - and over the years he had as many tales and adventures as Marley.  He was the worst dog we ever loved. One day when he was 9, I noticed that he seemed to be straining when peeing.  I thought maybe he had bladder stones like our old dog Tai had had years before.  So off we went to our vets at Anderson Mill Animal Clinic and we were lucky enough to get an appointment with Dr Swanzy that day.  Her examination of Barley was thorough, and in the end, over several days with assorted exams and x-rays, the news was not good.  He had a tumor near his anus and we could not be sure if it was malignant or not without going in, but she suspected by the size and look of it that it was.Devastating news delivered with the most sensitive and caring demeanor.  Dr Swanzy was so thoughtful and respectful during the process, taking my phone calls in the weeks to come to answer any little question I had - and also calling to check on Barley now and then herself.  When I told her that I was not ready to give up hope, she recommended a very good veterinary oncologist up in Round Rock - the news there was indeed bad.   Almost certainly malignant, and inoperable. In the end, we knew we had to make the ultimate heartbreaking decision.  I called Dr. Swanzy multiple times - "how will I know when it's time?", "what will happen if we wait too long?", "how much pain is he going to be in?" - she was so patient with us and she was always delicate but truthful in delivering the news and explaining what our options were. The day arrived.  It was time.  Dr. Swanzy came to our home with a technician and we all sat on our living room floor whispering softly, stroking Barley, and some of us crying.  Dr. Swanzy was so incredibly patient and kind and when we were ready, quietly told us what she was doing and what each shot meant.  When she confirmed that it was over, she gave us time alone with him to grieve.  Never hurrying, she never made us feel like she had anywhere else to be.It's never a easy decision, and we lose a bit of our hearts when we have to say goodbye to a trusted and loving friend - but Dr. Swanzy's bedside manner and total care from the initial diagnosis to the final moments were simply outstanding.  In the end, it made it a little bit less painful for us knowing that Barley's final moments were calm and relaxed, in his own home, and not in a vet's office with fluorescent lights and sterilized tables.  Every animal should pass in this way.  Every family facing this difficult time should have the kind of care that Dr. Swanzy offers.  She's a fabulous vet.A week or so later we received a gift from Dr. Swanzy and the staff at Anderson Mill Animal Clinic.  It was a heart shaped plaque with Barley's actual paw print on it surrounded by his name and assorted doggie tchotchkes (little fire hydrant, little heart, etc).  A bittersweet but greatly greatly appreciated memento of a our very own world's worst dog. Vca Anderson Mill Animal Hospital

Austin, Texas
(64)

It's been over a week since we came back and all we had hear from them is one voicemail explaining that the owner will call us if he has time and to also let us know that Jodi will be unreachable for the next two weeks. Unfortunately we had to visit Anderson Mill Pet Clinic with our sick cat Streaky. As soon as we entered the staff could tell immediately something was wrong. They got up very quickly and took our sweet streaky in the back. Even though there's not a happy ending to our visit I just want everyone to know how much the staff cared and where on top of things. They where extremely passionate about our feelings and handled everything so perfectly. I never write reviews but in an emotional time we where taken care of.

I'm not paying for this they killed my cat they are MURDERERS that rip you off and have a horrible bedside manner that trys to take advatage of people under distress!
