Vca Northwest Hills Animal Hospital

Austin, Texas
General Info
The VCA Northwest Hills Animal Hospital in Austin delivers a unique veterinary experience for Texas pets and their owners through visits based on animal observational behaviors to help them explore and adjust to new environments. When animals arrive they undergo check-in observations that include their responses to scent layers and flooring texture as well as eye contact and nearby movement adjustments. Upon examination commencement clinicians modify procedures according to posture cues and handling feedback—adjusting pace or halting based on patient restlessness or breath alterations or resistance. Examinations incorporate thorough assessments of coat density alongside evaluations of hydration levels and muscle composition while also testing limb responsiveness and inspecting dental surfaces together with oral heat and abdominal flexibility. Property holders receive invitations to discuss their recent domestic activities where subtle shifts in daily routines alongside vocal patterns and energy dynamics provide guidance for subsequent actions. VCA Northwest Hills Animal Hospital delivers structured diagnostics alongside immunizations while implementing pain tracking systems and aging wellness protocols together with collaborative illness mapping. Flexible appointments enable either single-step visits or multi-day staging based on the emotional capacity of both animal and household members. Diagrams tracking calendars and photo logs function as integrated visual tools to facilitate communication across multiple visits. The concept of follow-up care transforms from simple reminders into complex dialogues. The determination of check-ins relies on behavioral settling patterns instead of mere temporal measurements. Pet owners receive instruction on how to observe their animals' sensory regulation alongside activity re-entry following visits, particularly for pets that either withdraw or externalize behaviors after stimulation-heavy experiences. VCA Northwest Hills Animal Hospital delivers veterinary services across Austin and nearby Texas regions that start with awareness before supporting at-home rhythm while respecting physical and emotional thresholds throughout the process.

I will start by saying, I will NEVER go to another animal hospital while I live in Central Texas. The staff has gone above and beyond what I expected when we first brought in our rescue pup. In my experience, most vet offices are filled with people who care, but are also out to make money. I do NOT get that from anyone who works here. Our puppy was cursed with an autoimmune disease and I cannot even count how many times we have been into the office. That being said, every time we went in, we were greeted upon walking through the door and the entire visit was as if we were visiting friends. They were extremely attentive to our puppy's needs (and even wants, as he loved to greet everyone) and our questions and concerns were answered every time. Our puppy recently passed from this disease. But even the visit in which he passed away was better than I had expected. The staff was extremely accommodating and they were very supportive of us in this horrid time. I would recommend this animal hospital to anyone; you will be welcomed to your new extended family.Read Less

I can support the previous reviews--ridiculously expensive and they push unnecessary amounts of care (excessive vaccination as mentioned) as well as dental work, extra medical care.  My one dog has a lipoma that she has had forever, no changes in size with prior negative biopsy.  Vet there was pushing me to have it biopsied and removed, thinking she would scare me by calling it a fancy long word (didn't know I'm a people doc).  So, be cautious, get a second opinion if similar happens to you.Worse for me was that when I boarded my dogs there, they returned two traumatized dogs with urine saturated dog bed and the dogs drank when they got home for about 5 straight minutes.  After only a 2.5 day boarding, I still wonder what they were doing to these two certified therapy dogs to cause them to urinate in the cage.  I would NEVER board at this place again.  Ironically I chose the vet for the short boarding because I felt it would be safer.I also was surprised at a long wait when I was the first patient of the morning. I was not pleased with the care at this vet and will not be returning. Read Less

Update:  I have to say that I've stopped going to Dr. Maltby at VCA NW Hills.  They told me my ridiculously calm and sweet dog would need to be sedated to have her nails clipped (This dog lets my fiance's cat CHEW on her TAIL, and she lets me sand down her nails with a Dremel.  She does not need to be sedated.), and they also push unnecessary meds (fyi, you don't need a Bordatella every six months unless your dog spends tons of time with other strange dogs.)  It's too bad, because the vet techs are really great there, they always remembered me and my dog and were very friendly and helpful.  Unfortunately I was initially unimpressed with the other vets (see my review for VCA NW Hills) and came around to being disappointed in Dr. Maltby, too.Dr. Maltby is a vet at the VCA Northwest Hills Animal Hospital.  I'm not sure why she has her own listing, but whatevs. She's nice but a little weird.  Nothing too personal or exceptional to remark on.
