Absolutely outstanding! My Cheese boy recently underwent an emergency cystonomy at the hospital on Frontier after I picked him up from someone who was sitting him. I took him to VCA Tanglewood the following morning since he was still unstable and dehydrated. The staff here exceeded my expectations. The front desk staff was welcoming and got me in immediately even though I was a walk-in right as they opened. The two techs I talked to (oh boy, I wish I remembered their names) were fast-acting and professional, and Dr. Abbott was also very professional and informative. I didn't feel like I was being rushed or that I was being treated as a number and above everything, I felt listened to, even when I was being a crazy cat mom, calling in every 5 hours to check and see how he was doing. I appreciated our second visit even more than the first, because when he was released, a tech sat down with me and went over his blood values with me rather than sending me off with an "everything's great now, you can go home!" As a tech myself, that left an extremely positive impression on me. Everyone was very kind to Cheese, and they sent me home with several different Urinary SO samples. I will definitely be taking the big Cheese here from now on. Thanks everyone! Read Less

We have taken our pets there for over ten years. The place was called Feather and Fur Animal Hospital. The two vets, Dr. Blatt and Dr. Newman are wonderful! Sadly Dr. Blatt sold the practice to V.C.A. and retired. So much has changed and for the worse. In November, I had to go in person after several phone calls with different staff, failed to clear up a simple issue regarding my dog's prescriptions being filled. In Decemember, I received a statement with a balance due of $25.00 dollars. I have no idea why I have this charge. In January I called to have my dog's shots updated just to hear a sales pitch on joining a wellness club with monthly fees. It appears this place is now profit driven with poor customer service. They told me they were not an ER vet but to bring my cat anyways and they would work her in despite not having an appointment. Upon arrival, they saw her immediately. Everyone was extremely helpful and kind. I was in and out very fast and I felt like my cat was in great hands and got the best care she possibly could have. This was the most pleasant vet experience I have ever had. I recommend them to everyone- they genuinely care about the well being of the animals. Our family will be staying here. I've always taken my pets here and recently during hard times I decided to go elsewhere simply due to a silly price... this other place treated my cat and when I got home he got worse. For 2 days I called and tried to get a hold of the vet but they were just too busy to even give me a call back, so I came back here. They got me in the same day, same hour that I called, suggested their care credit and got my cat scheduled for surgery the next day. With my cat and my dog you can just tell everyone here loves what they do and loves each individual pet as they are. Dr. Abbott is never seen without a smile and all the other ladies are polite and they CARE! That is the biggest thing for me. They treat your pet as if it's their own! Love them and will never make the mistake of going anywhere else. Thank you staff!Read Less

As a new patient I took my 12 year old kitty in for an exam and to schedule a teeth cleaning a couple of months ago. As a new patient I receive a ""new patient"" voucher. I told them about his gums being a bit red and wanted his teeth cleaned. The doctor glanced at his front teeth and gave me a what was to be two-weeks of antibiotics. She did not check his heartbeat or temperature. He only got weighed. When I arrived at the pharmacy I found the perscription was for four-weeks, so twice the time and twice the expense they had assured me at the vets. I called the doctor back to check on the length of time I was to give my kitty the antibiotics, and she said yes, it was for a month, not two weeks. I debated returning and scheduled an appointment recently with another vet for his teeth cleaning. The night I scheduled the appointment my kitty suddenly passed away from what my previous vet explained sounded like a stroke caused by a clot breaking loose from his heart. It was a terrible thing to watch, but he was at least in my arms and not alone. I'm not saying if Tanglewood would have noticed anything odd with his heart if they would have listened to it. Would a clot develop within a couple of months that would have had the same outcome, even if they had listened? I don't know and nothing will bring him back anyway. I found our experience at Tanglewood unprofessional, unthorough and insensitive. They continuously called sent notices about his shouts and did inquire once how he was doing. I honestly felt dollars meant more than care. I just receive a message from Dr. Abbot at Tanglewood after placing a call to them earlier explaining what had happened. She did not leave any mention of our loss, just her name and number with a happy tone in her voice. Did she receive my reason for calling, or does her bedside manner need work? I would have serious reservations taking my animals there, but judge for yourself if you do. Read Less

I have been boarding my pup Dana at VCA Tanglewood for about two years now. Shannon and Sara make sure that Dana has the most loving and caring home away from home. I live in far north Austin and make the trip that far just because I am assured genuine care, affection, quality, and peace of mind. To give you a very concrete example: Dana *jets* to the door and wags her tail incessantly when I drop her off, and when I have picked her up, she has literally made a u-turn, followed Sara back, and *not* want to come home with me. I am 100% serious!! =D Dana has also had all her medical care at VCA Tanglewood with either Dr. Streid or Dr. Abbott for the same time as I have been boarding her. I love them both--they are extremely professional and patient (Dana can wiggle a lot!). Both Dr. Streid and Dr. Abbott call when they say they will call, and make absolutely sure all your questions are answered. As for the staff at the desk and elsewhere, they are *always and without exception* courteous, prompt, receptive, and cheerful. I have come to know them by name. I CANNOT rave enough about VCA Tanglewood, and would almost bet money that you will be happy giving them your business, and, more importanly, placing your baby in their care. =) ~Helena Read Less

Our dog Fox is very wary of new people especially vets. When we arrived at vca tanglewood the staff was very friendly and after a couple of minutes we were escorted into one of their rooms. Shortly thereafter in walked Dr. Stried and immediately he went to the treat jar and won Fox over by giving him a few of them. I was so impressed at how patient he was with us and our shy dog. A few months after our first visit we noticed Fox limping and brought him in. Dr. Stried said that he would need surgery and so we made an appointment. A few weeks after the surgery the band that was put in during the surgery broke and we were afraid he was going to need another surgery which meant another surgery bill. When we brought him in Dr. Stried said he indeed would need another surgery but that because it was the band that broke he wouldn't charge us for the procedure. There aren't many doctors I know of who are honest about when something they did didn't work out and compensate by fixing it for free. That is the type of vet Dr. Stried is and we are so lucky that he's our dogs doctor. In addition at his office they do a pet of the day each day and the winner receives a fun doggy goodie bag. Fox won once and I think it is such a cute idea and a great way to show appreciation for customers. Needless to say for the last two years he has continued to be our dogs vet and everytime we have an appointment we are extremely pleased with the service we receive. We recently added a blue weim to our family and he too is a fan of Dr. Strieds. In addition everytime we have brought either of our dogs in for something the day after our visit someone always calls to follow up and make sure everything is going well. I would recommend VCA Tanglewood to anyone looking for a vet. Read Less

Well, we had a rough start on the telephone. My cat needed to be seen asap and they put me on hold. OK, no problem. It was 6:20 and this was the only place still open (until 7pm). The man asked for my number to call me back. I was getting nervous and decided to head for the emergency vet. On my way there VCA called me back. It was now 6:40. They agreed to see my cat and we headed there instead. The vet saw us very quickly. The staff was friendly, especially the Vet himself. (Except my kids didn't think so when the vet asked which one of them needed the shot). LOL. Long story short...facilities were very clean. Staff was friendly and they took my cat (not a previous client) 15 minutes before closing. I think I've found my new vet. It was $50.50 (competitive) for the exam fee. The antibiotic shot was $65.55 (yikes, but it was a shot and I don't have to trick my cat into taking any pills for 10 days). Also, all in all cheaper than the emergencey vet I think. Read Less

If you want to get your money's worth for veterinary service, don't take your pet to this clinic. I paid $60 to wait 20 minutes in the examination room with a nervous cat for an incomplete checkup. The doctor took his weight, gave him a couple of shots and that was it. He didn't check Gizmo's teeth, heartbeat, feel his abdomen for tumors, or check his ears. It was rushed, impersonal and not worth my time or money. The vet who serviced Gizmo was robotic and showed no interest in my cat, which I take very personally. So if you want your animal to receive the best care, do not take him to Tanglewood Animal Hosipital. Read Less

I woke up on a Saturday to my cat needing emergency attention. After googling a nearby emergency vet, VCA came up. They even called the following Monday to check up and make sure she was okay. Thanks again, VCA!!! Read Less

Our cat died and we were new/unsure as to what to do with the remains when living/renting in the city. They were very kind at Tanglewood and were a great help to us in a very sad situation.

Dr. Abbott is the best Veterinarian I have ever dealt with by far. She has always treated our dog with kindness and patience. I would strongly recommend that you go to VCA Tanglewood.

Read Less
